Tate Brothers #3

Just a Grumpy Boss

Rate this book
Sebastian Tate’s a hot, grumpy boss trying to push his company to the next level... and in a comedy of errors not even Shakespeare could write, I'm now his assistant.

My theater history career goals might seem odd to some, but hey, life’s too short not to follow your dreams. Still, when my beloved beachside theater is deemed unsafe and I lose my job, my brother calls in a favor. I have no choice but to work as Sebastian’s executive assistant.

Sebastian is grouchy and demanding—too handsome for his own good. Haunted by the past, he can’t risk a relationship with anyone.

I’ll be going back home to California soon, anyway. My whole life is there. Keeping things professional between us will be no problem.

But when he accepts my help to fine tune the company’s charitable efforts, our long working hours become even longer. Suddenly, I have a front-row seat to another side of him. The man’s dedication to his family is charming. His frosty demeanor? Slowly melting. His unlikely kindness? Making me wonder if love isn’t just for poets.

Except, I don’t want to fall for him. I really don’t.

Can someone please tell my heart that?

Just a Grumpy Boss is a sweet, small-town romantic comedy with all of the sizzle and none of the spice! It’s the third book in the Tate Brothers series, which chronicles all six Tate brothers' pathways to love at their resort in the idyllic, quirky small town of Longdale, Colorado.

Deb Goodman’s obsession with the written word started at age three, when she realized the old-timey newsprint wallpaper in her family’s bathroom had actual words on it. The only problem? By the time she learned to read a couple of years later, the wallpaper had been replaced with something else—boring, non-worded wallpaper—and to this day, she still doesn’t know what it said.

Now, she and her husband and four children live in Utah. They love sports, music, and doing slightly insulting, pretend voices for their little shorkie, Mavis.

Deb writes funny, small-town romance that you won’t need to shield your kids’ eyes from. Billionaires, friends-to-more, enemies-to-more, cowboys, fake relationships…there’s something for everyone here!

Writing lovey dovey books comes naturally to Deb since, to her, there’s nothing better than reading and writing about how two people fall in love.

This is my first book by Deb Goodman and my first Tate Brothers romance. It was such a cute and fun book with a beautiful romance between Sebastian and Elianna.

Sebastian is a driven, handsome, and grumpy boss of his resort company. He set a big goal for himself 10 years ago and he needs to reach it by the end of the year in order to fulfill his dream.
When Sebastian's assistant leaves the company he finds himself hiring his best friend's sister as a favor to him. Enter Elianna, who is cheerful and fun and nothing at all what Sebastian was looking for in an assistant.

I really enjoyed this one. Elianna was so much fun! I loved her obsession with the 90s. There were movie and music references like Faith Hill and A Walk in the Clouds that made me smile. I also enjoyed that she wore vintage 90s clothing and Sebastian had no idea what to make of that at first. The scene when Elianna gets Sebastian to go outside for some air and she hops on a swing getting Sebastian to smile for the first time was one of my favorites. I liked watching him relax and his character growth as defenses start to come down and he realizes that maybe some of his goals have changed and what his values truly are. This book made had me happy sighing in all the best ways.

Favorite moments:
•Elianna making Sebastian laugh for the first time.
•Sebastian’s project for his niece
•Sebastian’s trip to the convenience store
•Sebastian taking care of sick Elianna
•Writing on concrete
•Their first kiss
•Grand gesture
•The ending

This book is the third book in the series but can be read as a standalone. I enjoyed getting to know the Tate family and I'm looking forward to reading more of the series.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Sebastian's story is one I have been looking forward to. The mysterious Tate brother always in the background in books one and two. Ok there are a few more mysterious brothers coming up in the series after book three, but this grump definitely had me curious.

In the wonderful Deb Goodman fashion, she delivers a story full of heart, fears, family and career expectations, swoony moments and so much more. She delivers a well-rounded story with a very sweet and satisfying romance between the driven, grumpy Sebastion and the bubbly, smart Elianna. These two are opposites in many ways, but they fit together better than any schedule on Sebastion's silly calendar. They push each other and help each other shine like no other couple.

Delightful romance, so good to be back with the Tate family again and I can't wait for more!

The perfect autumn read!

In this small resort town, grumpy boss Sebastian is in need of a new assistant. Enter Elianna, the 90s loving ray of sunshine he didn't know he needed. Gah! This couple is so utterly adorable in all of their opposites.

I love the Tate brothers and was excited to get Sebastian's story. It's true, he's a workaholic and his whole premise is achieving the Deca Arete list. I laughed at his outrageous expectations of an assistant, but couldn't help falling in love with him as the story progressed.

Elianna made me with I had hung onto my 90s clothing. She immerses herself in everything "vintage" and is so charming and carefree. It was such a joy to watch her interact with Sebastian, his family, her neighbors, and her little pooch, Destiny's Child. With her raspberry scent wafting through the office, she manages to breathe life into that office.

Deb Goodman does such a good job with this sweet romcom and I'm ready for more of these Tate boys. I wonder who will be next...

Content: mild romance

This is my second Tate brothers romance, and while I enjoyed the previous one, I loved this one even more. It includes some of my favorite tropes of grumpy/sunshine and boss/assistant. Also, I usually like the stories about the eldest siblings most in these kinds of series, so that helps too.

These two had great chemistry from the start, and the shenanigans they get into are hilarious. I also really appreciated it that the characters made it clear that while they remained close to each other before they married, they lived in separate residences. Also, even though the eldest brother's story is done, I am intrigued to learn more about the next brother. I had a lot of fun reading this book and enjoy the series as a whole.

I received a copy of this novel from the author. I was not required to post a positive review and all views and opinions are my own.

A sweet and swoony rom-com for some fun escapism.

This is the latest in the Tate Brothers series by @debgoodmanwrites (book #3)

I can so relate to Sebastian in being driven and putting all other people and priorities in front of his own happiness (could he possibly be a Virgo too? 🤔) Now Elianna…well I guess someone has to be the goofy one in the relationship. Because it’s a sweet, clean rom-com, you automatically know there will be a HEA, so no spoilers there.

I love getting to know the Tate family and am curious which of the brothers will be the star of the next book. Could it be Gabriel? Or will it be Henry with a Quinn reconciliation? I guess I’ll have to wait to find out.

Thank you to the author for including me as part of her ARC team. The book is out now on Kindle, so go grab a copy.

Just a Grumpy Boss is Book 3 in Deb Goodman's Tate Brother’s Series. It can be read as a standalone but these books are SO good that I recommend reading the previous books first!

This installment is Sebastian & Ellianna's story! Sebastian is the no nonsense, oldest Tate brother. He is the CEO of Tate International and is trying to get the company on the elite Deca Arete List. He is a workaholic who carries the weight of all things "Tate" on his shoulders. To make things worse, he is in dire need of a new Executive Assistant.

In walks Elianna…Sebastian's best friend's younger sister who happens to need a job. She is very into vintage 90's fashion, all things theater and loves Shakespeare! She is carefree, sassy and full of witty banter Even though she has no real office experience, she has a knack for writing grants which would be helpful to Sebastian.

Even though there is great chemistry and she brings so much sunshine to the office, I found Elianna to be so very annoying. Her work ethic (especially at the beginning of the book) drove me crazy. She runs away when things get tough and then she was aggravated that Sebastian didn't contact her when she told him not to. I did love how she really opened Sebastian up to a new way of life.

What a sweet romcom! I love all of the Friends/90's references. Aunt Stella is probably my favorite character in the series. She is so full of wisdom! I cannot wait to read the next book!

I'm so happy to be back with The Tate brothers. This is book 3, and I absolutely love this family. This book can definitely be read as a stand alone (I've not yet read book 1)

Just a Grumpy Boss is sweet clean romance, with the grumpy sunshine trope in a workplace romance.

There are so many fantastic characters and such a great resort setting.

I can't wait to see where Deb Goodman takes us next. I'll be waiting...

A lovely grumpyxsunshine romance by Deb Goodman! As I've come to expect from her, this book was well-written, with unique characters and deep characterization. This was a beautiful romance between Elianna and Sebastian, from their funny meet-cute to their happily ever after. I loved every part of this story and can't wait for the next one! Reader’s Notes:

– this is part of a series, but can be read as a stand-alone

– this is told from Eliana & Sebastian’s points of view

Review:

I loved Eliana & Sebastian so much! I loved Eliana’s choice in attire and that she didn’t feel the need to conform to modern styles. I loved that though Sebastian wasn’t a fan of her bright attire when she first started, he did fall for her and loved her various outfits! I loved getting to see inside Sebastian’s head on where he wanted his company to go and what he was willing to take the time to stop work for. I enjoyed how easily the other Tate brothers & their significant others welcomed Eliana into the fold (even before realizing the effect she had on Sebastian). I loved how much family time we got with them as well and seeing how Sebastian interacted with everyone both in the work capacity and outside that. I’m really excited to find out more about Henry’s story and his ex’s family inheritance situation!

Summary:

Sebastian wants to be the man his father wasn’t and also achieve his long standing business goal by the end of his tenth year in business. But with his executive assistant unexpectedly needing to leave, Sebastian isn’t sure that his business will make it. And when he agrees to hire his best friend’s sister as a favor to him, Sebastian isn’t too sure that his actions will help either. Because Eliana is the complete opposite of his past executive assistant and has no idea how to do half of the things she needs to do. Sebastian can’t take a step back in this time to catch her up or be lenient. He has to pick up the slack if there’s any chance of making it.

Eliana loves the theater but when her location needs desperate repairs and is closed until things are fixed, she has to make a temporary change to her occupation. Which means accepting the job her brother offers her to work for Sebastian Tate as his executive assistant while she looks for grants to help her theater. But Eliana isn’t sure that she’ll be able to make it the few months she’ll be employed by him. Not with how demanding and straight-laced Sebastian is or how much of her time he expects her to give up for the job. But when Sebastian accepts her help in considering more charitable contributions his company can participate in, Eliana finds herself falling for the last man that she should be considering. Because Sebastian Tate is much more appealing under his gruff exterior when given the chance. With Eliana going back to California soon though, can she really risk letting herself fall on this trajectory?

When Love Takes Over -
Sebastian was apprehensive to give his best friend’s sister a job, but he agreed as he was desperate. Elianna was weary about accepting her brother’s offer of a job with his best friend, but she agreed as she had no other choice. Their relationship from the moment they met was difficult, but Elianna tried everything within her power to make it work. Even though Sebastian was always grumpy, he realised his attraction for Elianna grew the more time he spent with her, which made his life difficult.

Unfortunately, an error caused by Elianna created problems for the company, which caused her to not only leave the job, but also walk away from their budding romance. Fortunately, even though their insecurities were causing them to stay away from each other, their families were able to convince them to take a chance on finding happiness together, which they finally acknowledged.

I really enjoyed reading this awesome story, filled with witty banter, steamy moments and drama, that you won’t be able to stop reading once you start. If you're looking for a fun, romantic and entertaining read, then this one is definitely for you. Grab a copy of this book and you won’t be disappointed.

I received an advanced copy of this book and I am voluntarily leaving a review.

I swear the Tate brothers just get more and more appealing with every book Deb Goodman writes! I thought I was obsessed after Book 1 but now I'm full blown 'can't get enough' mode!

I was beyond excited to read about Sebastian and all his grumpy stiff ways. And this book did not disappoint. There is nothing I love more than watching a gruff, surly guy laugh around the girl he is falling for. And Sebastian is seriously one surly dude.

Elianna is your typical sunshine to offset Sebastian's grumpy. She laughs when it's completely inappropriate, she is carefree and impulsive but together these two make such a good team. Even when things don't go exactly according to plan.

The only thing I struggled with while reading this book was that there were a few pacing issues--some of the romance plot shifted too quickly, in my opinion and then in other parts I thought maybe it was dragged out too long, but overall I really enjoyed this book and I cannot wait to read about Tate brother #4. Maybe we'll even find out what all his tattoos are!? (or maybe I'm way off base about which brother is making an appearance next).

Thank you so much Deb Goodman for the advanced Copy. It was absolutely delightful to read Sebastian's story!

This is my favorite of the Tate Brothers series so far, the stories just keep getting better! Sebastian is the oldest of the brothers along with being the most serious and driven to succeed. His priorities have always been to keep watch over his family while building his empire from the ground up. There’s a lot of emotional baggage Sebastian needs to deal with from his growing up years and throughout the story the reader is drawn into the “why” behind his thinking and actions.

When Sebastian agrees to hire his best friend’s little sister, Elianna, as her personal assistant things change exponentially. I absolutely love Elianna’s 90’s vibe from her clothing, to her spunk and overall bubbly personality. She’s exactly what Sebastian needs to get his priorities in order. This is a wonderful sweet and clean HEA, can’t wait to read about the other brothers in the series!!

Just a Grumpy Boss is a clean, heartwarming, small town romantic comedy. I loved getting to spend more time with the Tates. Sebastian is a grumpy boss and Elianna is just the person who can breathe a little work/life balance into his workaholic ways. I loved watching these two fall in love. This well written book kept my interest ffrom page one.

This was by far my favorite Tate Brother’s book to date! I just knew Sebastian’s love story would be epic, but I didn’t expect ALL THE FEELS! I laughed till I cried, swooned, and sighed, and held my breath through that third-act breakup that made me stay up half the night just to see that happy ever after we were promised. Deb Goodman has outdone herself with this one! Elianna is adorably quirky with her sunshine, optimism, and all the 90’s throwback outfits. I loved watching her turn Sebastian’s world upside-down. We met this grumpy broody workaholic in the previous two books, but we really got to know him this time. The banter between these two is comical and flirty and their chemistry is off the charts. Sweet and clean with plenty of steam, do yourself a favor and grab this book!

I nabbed this book as a freebie during a sale, and I am definitely going to read the other books in the series. I like how it seems that each book is about one of the Tate brothers. This book is a very easy, light read and just fun! A little fast-paced at times, and I had to go back and make sure I didn't miss something, but overall, it was a good read. It is about a woman named Elianna (I still do not know if I am pronouncing it correctly) and a man named Sebastian (the grumpy boss). It's your classic meet cute in the beginning, except Elianna is a hot mess and embarrassing herself. I like how the author really did make the reader (at least for me) not like some of the characters through her descriptive words.

This was such a cute book and a fun revisit back to the Tate brothers after reading Just a Football Star!

Sebastian, Seb, Zeb…. The perfect handsome, smart, driven, and grumpy boss! When he hires his best friend’s sister as a favor, he has no idea what he’s in for.

And then there’s the darling, cheerful, bubbly, 90s outfit wearing Elianna! She’s nothing like Sebastian envisioned as his personal assistant!

And yet, these two, despite their not-so-friendly beginning, end up complementing each other in all the best ways!

Sebastian is so serious and a workaholic so I was wondering who his romantic love interest would be. Elianna is definitely his opposite with her love of theater and the nineties. But she makes it work most of the time as his new assistant. Still it’s not her first love and it’s hard to mix business and a secret romance. I liked that she made him think outside the box and consider priorities other than making money. He shows his sweet side talking care of her while she’s ill.

I have been waiting for Sebastian’s book since the very first one in this series! He is a character with a lot of depth and I enjoyed learning more about him. Elianna really balanced him out well I also liked learning more about the Tate brothers and I think this book set the scene well for what comes next!

He felt under scrutiny all his life. But now his life is really ready to begin. With his family of brothers as encouragers and confidantes, he felt he was finally where he wanted to be. Still trying to live up to his fathers ideals made him feel as the lesser. Until he met his new assistant he had doubts

The Eldest Tate Falls

I love the Tate brothers dynamics. It's fun seeing Oliver and Alec and their women, as well as all of them with Aunt Stella. I did indeed binge read this in one day because I love the story and want to see how everything works out for the happy ending. I wasn't disappointed, and now I wait for Henry's story.

I loved Elianna! I found it so great that she loved everything from the 90’s! She was just who she was and didn’t care what others thought. Sebastian was a grump with a heart of gold underneath. And together they balanced each other out. There is a little bit of forced proximity, forbidden love, and grump/sunshine mixed in this book. There are some laugh out loud moments that are great.

Just a Grumpy Boss

Elianna and Sebastian have a really cute story. He is a grumpy boss in need of an assistant. She is a theater historian in need of a job. Sebastian owes her brother a favor so Elianna is hired. Read this book to know how their relationship develops.
