She’s having her best friend’s baby. He’s the billionaire she can’t stand. Tragedy turns foes into expectant parents. When Jessica Malone agreed to carry her best friend’s baby, she never expected Anya and her husband to die in a car accident. That’s shocking, but it’s even more shocking when she learns the biological father is Holt’s best friend, Maddox Tillman. She’s never liked Maddox, seeing him as a spoiled and controlling billionaire. Maddox has always considered her a sanctimonious brat with a chip on her shoulder against wealth and privilege.
As the pregnancy progresses, they find themselves drawn to each other despite their differences and mutual dislike. Things are more complicated when Lara, Maddox’s long-time girlfriend and a successful PR executive, isn’t happy with the situation and isn’t willing to accept the child as her own. As they bond over preparing for their daughter’s arrival, attraction grows into love, but family opposition and the specter of Maddox’s socialite girlfriend threaten their blossoming relationship. Can Jessica and Maddox put aside their prejudices to become the parents their child deserves?
The story felt completely rushed. Has potential to be better. How are these people processing emotions immediately after friends die that normally take months? Then the inconsistencies with names. I mean from one page to the next. Half the book happened in a weeks time. Absolutely unrealistic. An HEA of course so that was a plus but slow down, let the story develop. These people aren’t martians or caught in some time vector where life happens faster than here on terra.
the big problem with this book is the lack of effort to live up to the synopsis/title!?
the author chose to include the death of the best friends and it was as if they were ill and would be back in a few months?! not even one of them had a genuine breakdown? not even one?! they are all very lucid and let me sit ready?! yes!
maybe it's just the k-drama watcher in me that wants a total breakdown and real depression because they've both lost their respective best friends/siblings and now have a child of some sort! it really annoyed me how little that situation was explored!
but, to be honest, the only thing I liked about this book was the fact that, when they got together, they didn't fall into the usual traps and stayed together!
This was a sweet romance novel. I was so shocked when Holt and Anya passed away. Especially, Holt. But through it all Maddox and Jessica pushed their way through. And were better for it. Having to battle parents is hard. But at the end of the day they are grown people with a family. Sometimes you have to cut people out of your life If they're gonna cause more harm than good. Great story!
What good people do for babies! Jessica is carrying her best friend, Anya's baby. Her Anya and her husband, Holt are killed in a car crash, then she learns the bio Dad is Maddox, Holt's best friend, whom Jess never liked. The dislike, is mutual. They spend time together because of the baby in spite of Lara, Holt's girlfriend's objections. Family opposition combined with Lara's machinations make Jess's and Holt's bonding over the pending birth of their baby girl, complicated. The dilemma they face and how they handle it, makes this a fascinating read. This is a sad, happy, character building, affirming read. The author does an excellent job, wring out hearts, then pluffing it out. Nice characters, well done! I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review.
When Jessica agrees to be a surrogate for her best friend, she never saw it playing out the way it did. Anya and Holt are killed in a car accident leaving Jessica and Maddox as the ones entrusted to raise their child. They may have had issues between them but now that they are responsible for raising a child will they be able to put aside animosity and family issues to do so. This story is filled with twists and turns that had my emotions all over the place and cheering for Maddox and Jessica to get their chance for happiness.

This is one of those kind of books that you will definitely need a tissue for. Enemies to Expecting definitely has its twists and some crazy turns.
We all have that one, possibly two people that you can trust more than blood relations. And Jessica and Maddox are just that. I loved the constant chemistry they possess and have toward each other.
Im really looking forward to seeing more.

This book is an easy to read book, but I felt like it was rushed in so many ways . Also, in some parts, it didn't make some sense , and it kept on repeating a lot of things, and it didn't make sense. I had a hard time seeing the characters being enemies or anything that has to do with that trope, and I don't know whether it is because we didn't get a lot of background on them so it was kind hard seeing them as enemies to expecting. I had a hard time connecting with Jessica and Maddox, but I love that they wanted to be together for the baby.
Maddox and Jessica had a rocky first meeting which turned to dislike for each other until a tragedy struck, and they both change their views on each other, which led to them falling for one another, after huge bombshell had been dropped on them. They worked together to become a happy blended family, despite what their parents tried to do to them. It turned out to be a very strong love between them.
Maddox and Jessica's story was one of I dislike you but I love you. They came to terms agreeing to disagree with help from their friends whom they both loved and were doing " a blessing for". Life has its way of turning things upside down and these two find themselves getting even closer. Overall it is a good read story with a simple A to B plot with some serious drama but nothing that they can't handle. The sex times were good, not overly done, and the story was well-written.
I enjoyed seeing Jessica and Maddox unfold...even under such dire circumstances. The emotions of the story, the intensity of how grief hits you was real. This reminded me of how grief can emotionally tug you towards people romantically, been there before. Glad to see a billionaire not portrayed as an as@hole and that Jessica and Maddox were loving, caring human being which we forget exist sometimes. Sweet little story
It started off strong, I feel like it needed another 50-75 pages to really bring the story together. I wish we got to know Anya and Holt longer before their demise so we could really feel the pain of their demise. I also feel like Jess and Maddox should have had a few more moments of romantic tension before the accident. Other than that, as the title suggests, it's a nice weekend read.
Jessica and Maddox do not make the ideal couple. They really dislike each other. Circumstances beyond either of their controls put them firmly together as expecting parents. Everyone is against them. Will they come together as one in time for their child's birth?.

Great book. A different concept and completely enjoyable. I loved Maddox when he told his parents and Lara’s parents what he was not going to do and that he was going to marry who he wanted. Both sets of parents were ruthless trying to manipulate their kids to their will. Lara’s father crossed the line but Maddox’s Spidey sense kicked in and saved Jessica.
You know you have read a good book when it makes you smile 😊. I didn’t think I would get to much emotional but I was wrong, I started to cry, then it made me smile. Maddox & Jessica makes me feel, it doesn’t matter who you our or how old love can happen to anyone when you least expect it. I’m going to enjoy reading this over again.
I really enjoyed this book, and the characters were very entertaining. I loved the chemistry between Jessica and Maddox it was smoking hot and intense! The drama was just enough to keep you reading and looking for the happily ever after. I highly recommend this book to my fellow romance readers.
This was my 1st time reading anything by this author and I was not disappointed the storyline included different subject matters that we encounter within daily lives But the author of them together beautifully and And she kept the spice in there as well it is a slow burn but it's a great story
Such a sweet heartbreaking story of Jessica and Maddox love that grew from the deaths of their best friends, Holt and Anya. Jessica was Anya’s surrogate and Maddox was (as we found out after Holt’s death) baby Charlotte biological father. This couple truly fought all obstacles to be together. We should all have an ex like Lara.
I definitely enjoyed the story from enemies to lovers. I did find their families interesting in their non approval of everything. I just wish there maybe could have been more on why they were the way they were, plus there weren't many interactions with them either. It would have made the story at least a bit longer. However, I still enjoyed the story.
This book literally took weeks to read. The plot was too much for me, honestly. Between the would be in laws, ex girlfriend, health issues and grief, it felt like an uphill climb to read. I finished it on principle, but I'm not sure I would do it again.
I’m guessing this is probably an unpopular opinion, but this book started out strong and then literally crashed and burned. I will say after the MMC and the FMC best friends were killed in the car accident. The book became a really big ick. I wouldn’t recommend anyone reading this.
Nothing too great but certainly not bad. Maddox and Jessica were both great. Can’t say the same for the others involved aside from Holt and Anya. A few questionable details here and there but overall good short read
This was the cutest love story and I loved how Maddox loved Jessica. Maddox parents and Lara’s parents could go choke on a big one I hate racism. They got what they deserved a black grandbaby that was their KARMA ha ha ha.
This book was okay. It did make since that Jessica didn’t like Maddox because he was rich and she grew up poor. Jessica was not like able at times. You not missing anything if you don’t read it.
I liked the premise of this story, but I found the repetitive dialogue, inconsistent locations and rushed storyline to be troublesome. To me, it could use some more proofreading and editing.
Best friends to Holt and Anya sacrifice everything to be surrogates to their baby. What a whirlwind as they realize the Baby connects them in more ways than one.
Beautiful story. Those parents were insane. They were willing to pay off Jessica or inject her to preserve their blood line. There are some crazy people in this world.
Nice short story. Sad but touching, funny yet stimulating. Overcoming pain and hardship and racism and finding true love, no matter the circumstances or color of their skin ❤️
Such a good book. It's sad that Anya & Holt passed away. However I'm glad it brought Jessica & Maddox closer together to raise Charlotte. So glad Ms. Caldwell didn't draw out Jessica's resentment of Maddox like other authors do in enemies to lovers books.
We never know what a person is going through at the moment which’s why we should get to know each other instead of criticizing them based on our first impressions.
