Ideas, Influence, and Income: Write a Book, Build Your Brand, and Lead Your Industry is a great primer for potential authors or first-time authors. Tanya Hall, Chief Executive of Greenleaf Books, shares her experience of working with over 1,000 authors. For readers who are not familiar with the three types of publishing (traditional, hybrid, or self) this book thoroughly describes the strengths and weaknesses of each type.

Enlisting the help of editors, ghostwriters, and manuscript coaches are topics as well as how to select correct book categories. This is a very practical guide to the business side of writing which isn't always covered in books about writing.

I listened to it on audiobook and did not care for the narration. For me, it felt like a teacher was describing basic details to a class of inexperienced students.

Thank you to NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

After having read Bird by Bird by Anne Lamott, and then Stephen King's On Writing, this was a completely different book about writing, but I have to say that it complements the other two rather well. Whereas Anne is all about her witty quips, writing groups, and turning her devastating life into beautiful prose, I3 (Ideas, Influence, and Income) is all about practicalities -- branding, getting your darn book done, and concrete steps to establish yourself as a writer & a thought leader. King's book contains loads of stories about his own challenging path to success whereas Ideas, Influence, and Income talks about how to write that second edition to wipe the slate clean and get a book noticed.
Nuts and bolts can win the day.
A good solid book on how to write. If I were to be so daring as to think I should write a book I would definitely consult this one.

I received an advance reading copy in exchange for the wacky possibility that I might write a review of it.

Three Power Words for Every Book Author

For over a decade Tanya Hall has been guiding authors. She pours this experience into her book, IDEAS, INFLUENCE and INCOME. This well-crafted book is full of stories and insights for every book author. Whether you are publishing your first book or your 50th book, you will gain vital information from reading this book.

Hall explains the three pillars of thos book saying, “Ideas referes to the knowledge or vision you want to share through your content. Influence seals with building and impacting your audience, Income teaches you how to launch your book and monetize the idea behind it in additional formats to maximize returns.” (Page 2)

I enjoyed reading IDEAS, INFLUENCE, and INCOME and recommend it.

This audio book was not for me. The person who will do well off finally having a book to publish, yes that was a topic, and was reminded that most authors do not make money off their book. She did say it is a starting point to strengthen the industry you are writing non-fiction in. The person who will do well is Tanya Hall. Ok, she said do your research. I see on Amazon, that the author has published this in May 2018 and has 68 reviews. Almost, all free books, too. Still, she is using it to promote her company and get others interested in using her service. I imagine that might work out.

I knew about 2 minutes into this, that she had something to do with Greenleaf Publishing. They for a fee will help you publish your book. From reasearching other people’s books who used Greenleaf Publishing I’d say the average amount of NetGalley Reviews is 15. Then on Amazon, maybe 25 tops, including these free ones and the paid for ones. So, I did see her book on Amazon and it is nicely done. I am sure, it may persuade her target audience, and that seems to be first time authors with no experience. So, get a writing coach, a publicist, a ghost writer? How, do you find one? What questions are important to ask? What is a reasonable fee structure? None of this was covered. Just being a reader and active on Goodreads and Facebook, I could give you many concrete links to different groups that discuss going on NetGalley and the cost and promoting. These are free groups. There are others for first time writers. There are many resources on Facebook, too.

So, I just can’t recommend this book. A book has to be over 200 pages she says; well if that is the case most of them are repetitive fluff. Publishing a non-fiction book is particularly hard. I would think you would need to have experience in the field you are writing about and substantial credentials, not a nice web page Greenleaf will provide. I would then think it would be smart to start reading a lot of books on the topic that you want to write about. Then try submitting to journals and magazines, papers, to see if you can get even an article published.

So, perhaps some people have had great success using this book. That is terrific. I can’t see that happening, actually making an income from writing non-fiction from reading this book. Perhaps, I’m wrong, but it is not of interest to me. I heard nothing new or different or substantial to get me started.

So, thank you NetGalley, Tanya Hall, and Greenleaf Audio for a copy of this book. Hope it proves helpful to others.

totally solid. might even gift it to my newly self-published mom. strength: audiobook was engaging & even motivational to write & publish. weakness: this approach frames self-promotion as an end in itself. idk how it could avoid coming across this way. overall I really liked it.

Good book but I felt it was more directed towards nonfiction authors rather than fiction authors. Not what I was hoping for but still good

***THIS BOOK WAS RECEIVED FROM A GOODREADS GIVEAWAY***

I’ll admit that I initially thought this book was for all kinds of writers, to include fiction authors. I was looking for a few good ideas to push my brand out of the mires of obscurity, and this book seemed like it would help. While Ideas, Influence, and Income is focused mainly on those people who might not even consider writing a non-fiction book, there’s still plenty of advice for authors of all stages. The insight the author brings to the table here is a little intimidating, though, and not for the weak of will.

As far as I could understand it, this book caters towards individuals who are “trendsetters” or “influencers” who could turn their original idea into a brand that could support a book, speaking engagements, and other social media content pieces. Because of this, I didn’t find much use in these sections from the perspective of a fiction writer. I’m not selling ideas on how to change people’s lives, but rather ideas to entertain the masses. A few tidbits here and there were useful, but mostly just highlighted that I’d need to sink a lot more money and resources into my books if they are ever to be successful.

One could fault this book for its frank and honest look at the publishing business. It could potentially scare away writers who might find their idea of publishing a book (especially the traditional way) requires many more people and timelines that are usually ignored in the stages before actually writing the book. As I’m going about and querying one of my manuscripts for traditional publication, after reading this book I’m not sure I want to go down that path anymore. At this point, I’m content with self-publishing because the alternative seems like a day job that I don’t have the time for.

An honest look at publishing a non-fiction self-help book, I give Ideas, Influence, and Income 3.5 stars out of 5.

I received my copy of Ideas, Influence, and Income through a goodreads giveaway.

Tanya Hall’s position within the publishing industry has enabled her to write a book that should be very useful to anyone thinking about writing and publishing a book in today’s changing environment. It is primarily geared toward those writing non-fiction, but it certainly contains enough to be useful to anyone hoping to publish a book, or even just trying to decide if writing a book is the right move. But I also think the book could be interesting to those wanting an inside look at the publishing industry today, especially if you’re interested in the hybrid publishers out there, such as Greenleaf Book Group (Tanya Hall is their CEO), which nicely fills a role between the larger traditional publishers and those wishing to self-publish.

This book should appeal to those who are, or aspire to be, thought leaders. The ideas and concepts in the book are very aligned with those building personal brands, where in many cases the book you write is not the final end product but instead a means to an end. It helps build authority, it helps get your name out there, and it helps build community. So this book is about more than just the process of writing the book. It also talks to building your brand and community, to marketing, and to the opportunities that might come next, such as speaking engagements.

I have never written a book so I can’t verify the ideas in this book work. But they certainly make sense and fit well with what I’ve heard and read from published authors in various interviews. It is well organized, with the first section covering actually writing the book, the second section talking about how a book fits within a larger platform and how to leverage that in launching the book, and the final section covering the options for publishing the book and how the book is just one piece of a potentially much larger puzzle in this business of writing.

Ideas, Influence, and Income by Tanya Hall is a game-changer. It serves such an important purpose for any and all content creators. Not only as an informational book but a book that will motivate and keep you on track with your content creation. You do not need to be inquiring to publish a book to take so much from “Ideas, Influence and Income”. If you have a social media following, this book is also for you. Why? Simply because we are not limited to one platform. Tanya Hall, talks about the ways you can repurpose your content, the influence, being a thought-leader, where to go and what to do, because the possibilities and routes to usher your content into are endless.

In Ideas, Influence and Income, the CEO of hybrid-publishing company Greenleaf Books, Tanya Hall, provides readers with useful advice as they embark on the journey of becoming a published author. Hall focuses on drawing in those who are not authors by trade, but who wish to take up writing as a second source of income. The book is divided into three sections: ideas, which discusses writing and building a brand, influence, which examines how to build and leverage a platform in order to create personal connections, and income, which clues readers in on publishing options, as well as how to productize their writing. It also provides strategies for coming up with successful and marketable ideas, such as understanding the audience you’re writing for and hiring a writing coach.
This book is very helpful because it provides readers with step by step information about how to approach each and every aspect of the publishing process, while at the same time asking important questions, such as whether readers plan to utilize digital or print publishing, or employ a publicist rather than self-promote their work. However, Hall doesn’t sugar coat the process of becoming a published author, nor does she assure readers that it will be an easy feat. Instead, she is realistic in reminding readers that in order to be successful at their craft they must sacrifice a lot – including time and money. Additionally, she reminds readers that their writing must be their main priority. Additionally, she points out that as they begin to approach this process, they will encounter criticism and setbacks, but the important thing is that they don’t give up and continue to push forward. Hall reminds readers in the introduction that convincing a person to read your book is more than getting them to give you twenty dollars, it is convincing them to give you two weeks of their time.
After finishing her book, I can confidently say that she weaves this belief through all of the advice in her book, as she constantly reminds readers that their audience’s time is valuable. Overall, she stresses the importance of an impeccable brand, a fantastic and well-maintained platform, and most importantly, a stellar novel.
However, at times throughout the book it seems that Hall is pushing her own agenda, such as when she points out that unless readers have a decade of experience like as she does, they probably will not know the correct channels to follow to publish their work. Furthermore, she seems to mention her company a great deal, with its name appearing on over a dozen pages throughout the book, which may make readers question whether she is selling her expertise or her job title. Still, despite its flaws, this book does provide a lot of insightful information for those who are attempting to become players in the publishing world.

Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this eARC.

“Ideas, Influence, and Income: Write a Book, Build Your Brand, and Lead Your Industry” by Tanya Hall, narrated by Carol Grace Anderson, is a strategic guide for professionals who aim to leverage authorship as a tool for business growth and personal branding.

Hall’s book is not just about writing; it’s a comprehensive blueprint for transforming expertise into influence and tangible income. The author, who is the CEO of Greenleaf Book Group, brings her wealth of experience to the table, offering readers a behind-the-scenes look at the publishing industry. She demystifies the process of book creation, from ideation to publication, and further, to monetization.

The narration by Carol Grace Anderson adds a layer of engagement to the content, with a delivery that is both clear and motivating. Anderson’s voice resonates with the authority and confidence that the subject matter demands, making the listening experience not only informative but also inspiring.

Hall addresses common hurdles that aspiring authors face, such as time management and fear of criticism, providing practical solutions and encouraging a mindset of resilience and leadership. The book is particularly valuable for its insights into using a published work as a springboard for other opportunities, such as speaking engagements and consultancy roles.

While “Ideas, Influence, and Income” is a treasure trove of actionable advice for those looking to write a book with a purpose beyond storytelling, it also serves as a reminder that not every idea needs to be a book. Hall prompts readers to consider the value their book will add to the crowded marketplace, urging a strategic approach to authorship.

In essence, Tanya Hall’s work is a must-read for thought leaders, entrepreneurs, and anyone seeking to elevate their professional standing through the power of the written word. It’s a book about making books work for you, turning pages into profit, and words into wealth.

"Ideas, influence and income" is a guide on how to market the book ideas we might have. As an author, I found the book covered very important topics that need to be taken into account, particularly if the authors plan on doing most of the planning and work themselves.

Having studied the market a lot, I noticed that all of the things I was already aware of were mention. So despite not being the parts of the book that taught me the most, I think they are very important for people who are starting to plan how to market their project. Some other aspects mentioned I hadn't thought of before.
Even though this book focuses more on non-fiction projects, I think many of the tips can be applied to fiction writing and publishing as well.

The narrator was brilliant and made the book very easy to listen to and to understand.

Thank you to NetGalley and Greenleaf Audiobooks for providing me with a copy of the audiobook.

I feel a bit mixed about this audiobook after having finished it. It's an incredibly helpful book fleshing out the business side of writing/publishing a book (specifically focusing on non-fiction/blogger/business books). However, that also means that it leaves out the "magic" of writing. There's a place for this book that introduces you to the slog of getting your book out there, and there's also a place for the books that get you excited to write because of the joy of creation and getting your words and thoughts out there. I prefer the latter, but would honestly come back to this one when it comes time to edit, publish, and launch my own books.

The narrator's voice was crisp and easy to understand, but I feel the experience was a bit one-note. I can't figure out if that's due to the writing itself or the direction/delivery.

Thank you to Greenleaf Audiobooks and NetGalley for giving me an ARC of this audiobook for my honest opinion. #NetGalley #IdeasInfluenceandIncome

This book by Tanya Hall is really detailed and an excellent resource for somebody who wants to get published, or even just figure out how to turn their ideas into revenue. She has so much advice that it is like a master class in book form.

If you were looking for a book that is a general guide on how to write, this is not it. However, if you have written something, or are looking to publish—either through a publishing house, self-publishing, or the hybrid version she discusses—this book will give you every single step you need.

Honestly, there’s so much information in it, I feel like I would need to read it several times to get it all. Probably a print version would be the best, because you could annotate, highlight, and dog-ear the really important things you need to remember!

Very impressive. Highly recommend!

Full disclosure: I received this book as a Goodreads Giveaway.
If you have never read anything about publishing, then this might be a great place for you to start, as it seems to cover everything you might need to know about branding yourself, your style, your work, etc. It can help you to devise strategies for generating multiple income sources, and it may help some to develop target audiences and to clarify their messages. If you are already fairly knowledgeable or confident in you ideas and / or products, then this book might be a bit basic, simplistic, or redundant for you. I have helped one author with self-publishing, and I think this book would be a good guide if you would like to go it alone.

This incredible comprehensive guide to getting your book out there successfully was such a fascinating read. The author is clearly an expert with experience and even explains countless forms, writing tips, promotional material, and outcomes an author can navigate in their publishing journey. This book felt both like a productive meeting and a friendly conversation. I highly encourage any aspiring author or even an avid reader to add this book to their TBR as I feel like I have a much better concept behind what new or self published authors go through to get their works out into the world. Very informative and the guidance is incredible.

I received this book as an advanced review copy and offer my honest opinion voluntarily.

This was a decent book for people who are looking to write a non-fiction book on their expertise and want to get some tips on that or understand the publishing process better. I think this book delivered on the title, and the author seemed very knowledgeable. I do think there were occasionally some things missing from the conversation, especially around Gary Vaynerchuk and the books/business he has made online, but overall a great resource. At times it felt a bit like an advertisement for Greenleaf, but that was overall not bad, especially if you are looking for services like theirs, and I think it helped add to the proof of experience of the author.

I'd recommend this to anyone who has a decent income coming in and is thinking of publishing something to position themselves as an infopreneur or thought leader on their subject.

Got this book at a conference last year and thought I would give it a go. This book is a fantastic guide for those aiming at writing a book and who wonder about publishing rights, how and when to launch your book, etc.
While I do not intend to write a book (yet), I was highly interested in the additional bits surrounding a book: How to build an audience, becoming a thought leader, how to produce and market adequately for the audience you intend to serve, and so on. It did not disappoint, the advice is solid and delivered in a practical format. I will certainly revisit some parts that will help me grow my website and podcast!

I wish I’ve had read Tonya Hall’s book before publishing my first book years ago. Planning, writing and promoting a book is a daunting task not for the faint hearted. With “Ideas, Influence, and Income,” it doesn’t have to be the case any more as Hall goes through the entire processes and procedures of getting a book published. Also, what makes the book more valuable is that it is especially suitable for authors who may be weak on the business aspect of book publishing since I think most of them are not good at or shy of monetizing content beyond their books.

Pretty solid book that hits on the 3 keys for a successful book launch which are the title of the book (ideas, influence, & income). Tanya clearly lays out the key steps and highlights some of the nuances to publishing a book. As CEO of a hybrid publisher mentions their approach throughout the book but does it in a way that isn’t aggressive.

If you are considering writing a non-fiction book then definitely worth a read!

Ideas, Influence, and Income by Tanya Hall is a comprehensive treasure trove for the aspiring non-fiction author. Hall's writing is direct and concise, guiding one through what it entails to create an author platform and launch a book. Hill's knowledge and insights into publishing distinguish this book providing expert advice, and a glimpse into the otherwise unknown such as how, for instance, books are positioned on displays and end caps in retail spaces.
