I always love revisiting Jack and Jerry at their gas station on the edge of town! Such fun books, full of ridiculous happenings and quirky antics. Not sure if the author will write of this more series but I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Another banger entry in the Tales from the Gas Station series! In this tale, which takes place between books 3 and 4, centers on a Halloween night in which a swarm of mysterious green bugs takes over the gas station, leaving Jack, Jerry, and their few customers trapped inside - the story starts and moves quickly, making for a very quick and easy read. I spent 5-10 minutes each night reading a chapter or two before bed, and had TFGS dreams/nightmares the whole time haha
Nothing felt out of place, it all felt very Jack and very TFGS. Highly recommend for fans of the series! Also, while it technically takes place between books 3 and 4 (and before Bedside Manor), it really can be read as a standalone at any point. It's a snippet in the life of Jack while working at the gas station.

second book by this author that I've read. humor was still there in this book for me which I enjoyed. kind of gave me the host vibes by steph meyers. this book was an ok read and I look forward to reading more books by this author.

This book was a sticky green mess but I loved it. Every one of the gas station books I’ve read has been so much disgusting, horrifying, raccoon infested fun. I look forward to the next disgusting installment.

I don't know how but I've fallen into reading book after book in the obscure sub-genre of Isolation/Locked Room Horror in which the locked room in question...is a gas station. I think this is my 4th in 3 years.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: “The Green Night” is part of the "Tales from the Gas Station" Continuum. 'Nuff said. OK, good night folks, drive safely, that's the end of my review! Yeah right, like I'd miss an opportunity for my usual miterary lasturbation!
Once every five years, the bugs come.
"The Green Night" - or if you prefer "Return to Tales From The Gas Station" - by Jack Townsend is what every fan could expect, hope for and eventually try to wash the taste out of your mouths for some of the icky bits. (oh and btw: as of this writing, this book is listed in goodreads under the WRONG Jack Townsend, so don't let that throw you off! I mean, it's not like his body has been possessed by a horde of… oops, I've said too much…) What better way to spend an afternoon reading than to venture forth with this short book / longer novella and revisit old friends and spooky places? I only hope this is not the last visit as this just fit perfectly into all the lore, all the gore, all the, um, store we've known and loved for a while now!
Here we were, in a swarm of mysterious ephemeral insects, trapped inside a building with a deific apex predator, a missing body, and several pissed off raccoons.
I could probably just copy and paste in some of my comments from a little over a year ago, when I burned through Townsend's original 4 books like a freaked out (up?) raccoon hyped up (out?) on ayahuasca and peyote, both of which will prove to do a body good as you may or may not see! As with the original quadrilogy - or tetralogy if that's the way you swing - we are treated to an absolutely bizarro tale that only ramps up the weirdness step-by-step until we're left with an explosive and concussive ending that will have any semi-sober reader shaking their head(s). Sorry, I'm still not sure if that should be plural or not. Just everyone read it and shake their heads and we should be copacetic!
Code Red only! Put this back. Whatever is happening, it isn’t a Code Red.
And as usual, this particular Green Halloween (oh ha ha) is filled with deliciously subtle but extremely effective humor and, well, not-so-subtle humor. I mean, let's be fair: if we're going to put Jack and Jerry together on All Hallow's Eve on a dark but apparently not-stormy-in-the-way-you-think-stormy night, then shit gonna go boom! Along the way we're reminded that it's not only our cheery and weary anti-heroes that make the situation so bizarre but there's plenty of guest stars g(al)ore. And it barely takes a mention or two before Townsend has us knowing them, understanding them, and, well, most likely, hating them. Which is pretty blunt foreshadowing in many ways but it makes for understandable scenes of wanton gore and dismemberment and the general removal of viscera from the places it should usually be kept!
You know what they say: The truth shall set you freak.
Oh and I finally googled "creepypasta"! It's a real word! And yeah, again, this whole thing (waves tentacles vaguely) counts! Enjoy!

This is a funny and very imaginative story, with enough terror and gore to keep any horror fan happy. It is a part of the Tales of the Gas Station series, but it is entirely possible for any reader to jump right in. The plot is simple enough to follow even if you've never tackled any of the other books. The Green Night was originally released online around three years ago as “Happy Halloween from the Gas Station,” with the author later revising for publishing as a novel. The book is worth reading for its cleverness and pure weirdness.

As soon as the annoying and occasionally deadly flies begin to arrive the doors are locked and any gaps to the outside are sealed shut. Unfortunately and sometimes fortunately too, Jack and Jerry aren't alone to ride out the fly-storm with other people hunkering down too. But with the fly storm comes more than just the annoyance of being bitten, because murder and mystery is as thick as the swarm itself. Who can be trusted and who smashed all the radio's?
I enjoyed this installment of the Gas Station stories. It is more of a side-story than part of the linear timeline but you could probably read it at any point, or even if you haven't read the Gas Station stories. The author has a way with words which really paints a vivid picture for me. He delivers a health dose of humor and wit, as well as some really well written characters. 4/5.

Jack is, for once, almost on top of things, but no matter how carefully he planned and worked on his variety of codes emergency boxes, our poor boy is soon over his head and everyone is scrambling by the time the first dead body shows up. As the body count increases in this “locked room” situation it’s quite the whodunnit where truly everyone is a suspect- even the dead!
Jerry… my love for Jerry just grows here even if he spends much of his time chemically altered, in trances or wrapped in rolls of duct tape. We all need an emotional support Jerry in our lives to keep us from working ourselves into knots.
Nothing is impossible when it comes to the gas station and this insane little town, so grab your baseball bats and katana swords because you’re going to need them.

A bug swarm keeps escalating into the most gas station-type of occurrence that we have come to expect.

This book was exactly what I expected from Jack Townsend …. Nothing but the most craziest, weird, nothing-makes-sense-but-it-somehow-makes-sense type of masterpiece. I devoured this book in half a day (could’ve been in one sitting but you know, adulting). I hope the stories keep coming because I can never get tired of Jack and Jerry (and Rocco too!).

Tales From the Gas Station are among the scariest humor books you'll find, and this is no exception. It's a nice short read that will leave you crying, laughing, and rolling your eyes. I suppose we'll have to wait another five years for the sequel to this edition.

A light, quick read that was a nice breather after finishing the series (I didn't realize this book took place between books 3 and 4 until after I had finished the series). While not my favorite installment, it was still enjoyable. Towards the end the pacing felt a little rushed, and we didn't get much time to absorb all the absurdity because of it.
This was, however, a fantastic extension of Jerry. His antics were a large part of the book, so if you love Jerry, you'll love this!

3.5 very interesting descriptions that I never want to read again regarding bugs lol It was quite fun but being in the mind of the protagonist was... an experience. He could be quite pathetic sometimes. Frankly I didn't know where this book was going many times.
