I live in the small town of Petrolia, Ontario, Canada and I am a mother to a wonderful teenage boy (didn't think those words could be typed together...surprise) and wife to a truly supportive and understanding husband, who thankfully doesn't think I'm crazy.
I have always had two profound dreams in life. To fall back hundreds of years in time and live in a simpler world, not bogged down by technology and to write novels. Since only one of these was a possibility I decided to make the other come alive on paper. I write mm romance novels that take place in fantastical medieval type settings and love to use the challenges of the times to give my stories and characters life.
This was a nice surprise - an audio compilation of the two Valor & Doyle novellas that have only been available in print so far.
Department Rivals takes place before book one, Temporary Partner and sets the stage for Quaid and Aslan's romance as they're teamed to work together on a team-building day and discover that their preconceptions about each other might just have been wrong. And Relative Commotion takes place between books three and four and finds Valor experiencing Christmas with the Doyles.
Nick J. Russo knows these characters so well by now, and does his usual excellent job with the narration.
NOTE: This title is not available at Audible - it can be purchased directly from the author's website https://authornickyjames.com/product-... and is delivered via the Bookfunnel app.
I love Valor & Doyle! These shorts are what I needed. I loved the getting to know you scenes, it really does give you a good judgment of how both characters are. Sigh :) Then we get Christmas with Aslan's family and it's a fun listen.
Two short stories in the Valor & Doyle series. Departmental Rivals (#0.5) recounts the initial meeting of Dets Quaid Valor and Aslan Doyle when they are forced to work together on a competitive team building exercise with the aim of fostering better relations between MPU and Homicide. Of course Valor and Doyle get on each others nerves. We watch their completely different personalities and professional styles clash as they scramble to solve the clues before the other teams.
Relative Commotion (#3.5) recounts the prickly interactions between Aslan and his brother-in-law during a family Christmas celebration. Doyle get-togethers are all noise and bustle and Valor feels overwhelmed by it all but still leaps to defend Aslan when necessary.
The 2hr-21min audiobook bundle can only be purchased via BookFunnel from the author’s website. Fans of the series will enjoy this.
Yes! We finally get the team building where Quaid and Aslan were first paired up to solve a fake crime to learn how to work together. The department of homicide and missing persons don’t get along so the captains decided to create a yearly team building. It was so great listen to this novella. I can never get enough of this couple!
Loved being back with Valor & Doyle. The team building exercise was great, and it was nice seeing them before book one. I honestly figured it would be more ridiculous… and then the Christmas one just pulled at my heart in all the right ways.
