Old adversaries resurface, and new threats arise as Adele and Rune navigate a delicate balance between their newfound freedoms and the risk of losing everything they hold dear.

In the village of Bricen, Adele is learning to manage the complexities of home life, while battling the darkness inside that’s yearning to be released. Despite her willingness to blur the boundaries between right and wrong, she fears judgement from those closest to her.

Meanwhile, Rune encounters obstacles in the Starlight Realm as she and the recently freed angels strive to restore their once magnificent city of Stellara to its former glory. Battling self-doubt and the pressure to meet expectations, Rune fears their home may be lost forever.

When a dark force returns to the Human Realm, Adele, Rune, and their closest friends must devise a plan to eliminate the threat once and for all. But with the arrival of a new formidable adversary—with powers capable of bringing even an angel to their knees—their chances of success are looking grim.

Even with the return of someone believed to be lost forever might not be enough to ensure victory. Adele and Rune are fully aware of the consequences if they fail, and the weight of potential failure burdens them both, as they question whether their abilities will be enough to protect themselves and their friends in the end.

A Vengeful Shade is the second book in the Three Shades trilogy. It continues Adele’s story in her, her friend’s and her family’s fight against adversaries who have only dark goals in mind.

Again, Grymes writes a very entertaining book filled with magic, friends, family, love, evil, great world building and wonderful characters. It’s a great fantasy series, and that cliffhanger at the end! Now I need to know what happens next….now!

Thank you to NetGalley, and the author for sending me an advanced copy of this book.

I received an ARC copy of this amazing book from the author and was so thrilled! This second book in the trilogy was just as beautiful, if not more so, than the first book. Her writing style is beautiful and leaves you feeling all the emotions. I enjoy the theme of darkness and light, as well as showing that all of us have some of both in us. It is up to the individual to choose their path and which kind of life they choose to lead. I was kind of expecting a cliffhanger because this is book 2, but this one! So unexpected and leaving me looking forward to the final book!

If you love world building, the art of using magical powers, angels, demons and other worlds. This series is for you. A little bit of romance is sprinkled into the story.

Tropes:
Medieval Fantasy
Morally Grey MCs
Mind Bending Magic
Angels & Demons

I won’t lie, it took me a bit to get into the book, with the new world building and discovering how Rune’s magic works, compared to Adele’s magic, it was a little hard to follow along. But once I understood everything it made the story a whole lot better. Not my usual reads but I loved it!

Book 2 takes place several months after the first book, where we get the “first” look into Stellara from the aftermath of their entrapment in the Under Realm. Rune takes more of a leadership role in her community, like her mother before her with the help of some of her other angel friends to rebuild Stellara. But it’s to rebuild though as some of the angels are not ready to go back to the Starlight realm. Rune seems to be trying to keep with the old laws and ways, but her heart is telling her she is wrong to keep with the old ways and to let humans in… She has that one special humans who makes her question if the path she is on is the correct one

Adele has matured a lot over the months, trying to use her powers less or for good, instead of how she was trained or how her magic begs to be let free. Not only has she gotten a better handle on her magic but she is trying to step out of her comfort zone, being more open to people outside of her little circle.

The story really got to me in the last 100 pages. Heart break, tears, rollercoaster of a ride and not to mention the big twist/ cliffhanger at the end. I was really trying to understand where the Vengeful shade would be or show up. They show up alright. Just may not be what you were thinking

Grymes' second installment in her trilogy, “Three Shades Trilogy,” continues with the same brilliance seen in book one. Readers are instantly drawn back to this magical and captivating fantasy world through her addictive writing style. The beloved characters we met and fell in love with in book one are reintroduced, and the story continues to be told from the perspective of Rune and Adele. Readers are treated to watching relationships between characters develop as a sweet, non-spicy romance is woven into the story. I thoroughly enjoyed all aspects of this read and was able to finish it quickly, as it is quite short, like book one. I experienced a wide range of emotions — joy, anticipation, hope, anxiety, sadness, and disbelief – at different stages of the book. I was not expecting the massive cliffhanger at the end and cannot wait for next year when the final book will conclude the series. The important themes embedded in this first book are woven throughout this one, especially the importance of finding your own identity and the idea that individuals have the power to shape their lives however they choose. New themes are introduced, such as the internal battle individuals face when deciding whether to pursue their own happiness or adhere to societal expectations.

The second book in The Three Shades Trilogy: A Vengeful Shade is just as captivating, if not more than its predecessor. The same incredible world building and complex characters, each battling the duality of the light and dark within and the freedom to choose their path. At its core, we have Adele, our incredibly strong central female protagonist. Having escaped captivity in book 1, she is now trying to find her place in the world. In this world of various realms, angels, and demons, a new evil threatens their stability. There is tension and lots of emotional turmoil in the story, magic, sweet romance, and beautiful friendships between found family. The ending definitely leaves you wanting more. This is an incredible fantasy series, and the cover art is just stunning. #avengefulshade #kimberlygrimes #thethreeshades #trilogy #book2 #fantasy #goodvsevil #darkvslight

《 BETA REVIEW 》

I just finished up beta reading A Vengeful Shade by Kimberly Grymes! This is the second book in the Three Shades Trilogy, and let me tell you, it ends on an EPIC cliffhanger!

This one picks up immediately after the events of Shade of Light, and it had me gasping, tearing up, and giggling. It still has the dual points of view from Adele and Rune, and I love how different they are!

I also absolutely love the magic system in this series. It's a true "good versus evil" story with angels and demons, but also a story about family and friendship.

You'll love these books if you like:
- Angel & demon magic
- Good vs. Evil
- Traveling through different realms
- Danger around every corner
- Found family
- A fiesty, stubborn FMC who likes to fight
- But also a straight-laced, righteous FMC
- The cutest love story ever 🫠

Pre-orders are available on Amazon, and this gets released on November 19th! Which means... you've got plenty of time to read the first one!

A huge thank you to Kimberly Grymes for the opportunity to beta read this book! I'm so excited for the next one!

Kimberly Grymes has crafted another captivating installment in her fantasy trilogy with A Vengeful Shade. The author’s beautiful writing style is truly one of the standout features of this book—her prose flows effortlessly, pulling the reader deep into the world she’s created. The magic and the mysticism that saturate the narrative are rich and immersive, painting a vivid picture of both the Human Realm and the Starlight Realm. It’s easy to get lost in the magical atmosphere, as the fantastical elements feel grounded in the characters’ struggles and desires.

In this second book of the series, Adele and Rune’s journeys become even more complicated. Adele is grappling with the darkness inside her, torn between right and wrong, while Rune faces immense pressure to rebuild her people’s city in the Starlight Realm. Both characters are faced with personal challenges that test their limits, but it’s their emotional growth—particularly as they navigate their relationships with others—that adds depth to the narrative. The stakes feel high, and the weight of their decisions is palpable.

The plot thickens with the return of a dark force that threatens both realms, and the tension continues to rise throughout the story. The introduction of a new, powerful adversary raises the stakes even higher, pushing our heroes to the brink. The conclusion? A Vengeful Shade ends on an epic cliffhanger that will leave readers eagerly anticipating the next book in the trilogy. I can’t help but feel both anxious and excited for what’s to come—Grymes knows how to keep you hooked.

Overall, A Vengeful Shade is a beautifully written fantasy novel with rich world-building, complex characters, and a gripping plot. The cliffhanger alone is worth the read, and I’m eagerly awaiting the final book to see how everything unfolds! Highly recommended for fans of magical fantasy and character-driven stories.

𝑨 𝑽𝒆𝒏𝒈𝒆𝒇𝒖𝒍 𝑺𝒉𝒂𝒅𝒆 is book two in the Three Shades Triology by Kimberly  Grymes. This is a YA fantasy set in a midevil world.

🪶 Angels and Demons
🪶 Mind Bending Magic
🪶 Morally Grey MC's
🪶 Found Family
🪶 Forbidden Love
🪶 Dual POV

A Vengeful Shade jumps right back in and continues to be told in dual POV through Adele and Rune. The gang soon find themselves on another quest. Another portal has remained open allowing Marcellus to enter.

More secrets are uncovered, especially revolving around Sara and the three shades. There are also some love interests that are introduced in this book and I'm excited to see those relationships grow.

I see you with your sneaky little cliffhanger at the end!!!

Thank you to the author and beyond the pages pr for the e-arc. My thoughts are my own.

I really enjoyed the second installment in this series! I think Rune is my favorite character; the development of her character and unveiling of the history that was lost previously was really neat. The worldbuilding is, as in book 1, really great, with the introduction of the Starlight Realm a really fantastic addition!
Adele goes through a lot of development in this one, trying to come to terms with her ability that she for so long thought was a horrible evil, and still sometimes does.
I also can't wait for book 3, because the introduction of one of the new characters in A Vengeful Shade has me wanting more angel/demony goodness/badness

📚 Book Title: A Vengeful Shade
✍🏼 Author: @kgrymes.writes
✨ Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

In A Vengeful Shade, Adele battles inner darkness while managing domestic chaos, and Rune struggles to rebuild an angelic city weighed down by doubt and expectations. When a dark force threatens both realms, these two heroines face a powerful new villain capable of breaking even the strongest angels.

Packed with gripping action, morally grey choices, and characters as fierce as they are relatable, this story is a whirlwind of danger, daring, and unexpected twists. If you love angelic showdowns and friendships forged in fire, this is a must-read.

Verdict: Four stars, fierce characters, and nonstop fun.

The second installment of the Three Shades Trilogy has me thinking Adele and I could definitely be friends. We both love people and the community but dislike excessive physical touch, which is enough to win me over. I feel your pain, sis. Well... not pain, just the eww.
Victories are short-lived because enemies keep popping back up and stirring drama. Not a moment of peace for Adele, Rune, Elijah, or anyone else in Bricen, because how could that possibly be when angels and demons (and a human cult) are at war?
A Vengeful Shade might have less action (only a little less) than the first book, but we are faced with one daunting revelation after the other. This is the book of secrets, people! Of unveiled secrets! Most of the questions in Shade of Light are answered here, but we're still left with the uncertainty of what might become of our friends of Book III.
Happy reading!

Whoa that was crazy! So much action, so many secrets. I really loved seeing Rune in this book becoming more herself and Adele both have come such a long way since book one. I enjoyed the fast pace, page turning, edge of your seat story telling Dark vs light trope is in there the world building is fantastic and a little bit of romance! This was an excellent read and that ending was nuts I cannot wait until book 3. I finished this book fast it kept me company during a long weekend.

Thought this was an amazing book 2. I love the world, I love the powers, I love the schemes, I love the ending! I thought the book was going one way but then it went in a completely different direction which kept me super engaged. The complexity of the characters is great and you can see the morally grey characteristics of the FMC shine throughout the book. I am super super interested in the next book and finding out how everything will play out!

Thank you to the author for the ARC 😊

Absolutely loved this! It picked up right where book one left off, but you get to see more of the world and get more answers. However as answers come more questions arise, and I cannot wait for book 3! I need to know how this plays out!

You don’t have to do it all on your own.

I was so delighted and grateful to receive and ARC or A Vengeful Shade

Kimberly didn’t waste any time thrusting our beloved characters back into the action and book two focuses on Rune, who is learning that she doesn’t have to do things all on her own (slowly, but she’s learning!)

I loved her journey of growth throughout the book as she figured out that she can rely on her friends to help her and that perhaps the way things were always done doesn’t have to be the way they continue.

And perhaps most importantly for me, who is obsessed, my crows are back!! And there are more!! Kymberly if you ever hurt them our friendship is over 😂

Enemies lurk at every corner in this book and I feared for the squad in every chapter. (But mainly I feared for my crows).

Also do I spy a potential love interest for our girl Adele 👀👀👀

I’m a little nervous for book three because the squad has a lot of danger awaiting them 😬

Also, I have it on a good authority that a full color version is in the works and I can’t wait to order a copy to match my Shade of Light!!

Check out a Vengeful Shade when it comes out and if you haven’t already read it, read Shade of Light!

I was so excited to get back into this world and be with these characters. The found family in this series is amazing and makes me so happy. I loved seeing these characters develop and get out of their comfort zones after what unfolded in book 1. Adele is still such a strong and great FMC and you get to see her a little bit more vulnerable in this one, which I enjoyed. Rune’s storyline is interesting and still a favorite and I can’t wait to see where is goes in book 3 👀 We got a lot of Kit and Elijah 🤭 Lots of new characters were introduced and we even had a little cliff hanger… all in all I loved it and can’t wait for book 3!
