In the wilds of the Montana Territory, the Coulter ranch is a place of family, loyalty, and a hidden fortune. Jericho Coulter, the eldest of six fiercely devoted brothers, is entrusted with the secret that binds them the Sapphire mine, a treasure trove of riches that secures their futures. To protect their legacy, the Coulter brothers allow no outsiders on their land—until two women stumble upon their ranch, claiming Jericho himself sent for one of them as a mail-order bride.
The other sister, Dinah Wyatt, is a talented and determined doctor whose skills are put to the test when tragedy strikes almost immediately. One of the Coulter brothers is gravely injured in a wagon accident, forcing the family to put their trust—and his life—in the hands of this stranger.
As Dinah and her sister become entwined in the Coulter family's life, sparks fly between the enigmatic Jericho and the captivating doctor. In a world where trust is hard to come by and secrets hold the power to change lives, Jericho and Dinah must learn that sometimes, the most precious secrets are those buried within our own hearts.

Nobody has brought the Montana/Wyoming/Canadian mountains to life for me in historical romance quite like Misty M. Beller. I devour her stories as quickly as possible – always to my ultimate regret because then I have to wait rather impatiently for the next one lol – and I love her talent for putting me right in the heart of the setting.
And at the heart of this particular book’s setting is Jericho Coulter. Steady, swoony, protective, swoony, sweet, swoony, reserved… did I mention swoony? Okay, okay, in all seriousness I really loved Jericho’s character. He’s got gruff-but-tender mountain man down to an art, and his sense of duty to his family is definitely to be admired. That sense of duty, however, comes with some heavy self-imposed burdens (which explains the ‘gruff’ part of the above description), and I thought Beller does a marvelous job of revealing his layers bit by bit under the ray of sunshine that Dinah brings into his life. Watching him fall in love was truly a pleasure and brought a big smile to my face more than once. I also had to laugh every time he or one of his brothers referred to the sapphires in ‘code’… I could almost see some comically raised eyebrows and a wink for emphasis. So cute!
Dinah and her pregnant twin sister Naomi have traveled all the way to Montana in response to an advertisement for a mail-order bride. An advertisement from “Jericho”… except the poor man has no idea what they’re talking about once they barrel onto his land. I’m very eager to see how this plays out in future books in the series, namely how many other women show up in response. Oh the delightful (and humorous) possibilities! For her part, Dinah is a very likable protagonist. Whip-smart, intuitive, full of faith and compassion, she is an excellent doctor and truly does bring light and life onto the ranch. I particularly enjoyed watching her interact with Jericho’s niece Lillian and the bond they quickly formed, and I also really appreciated the scenes where Beller lets us get to know Dinah as a doctor. I can’t imagine how harrowing it would be to practice medicine in the frontier, without all of our modern technologies, and then as a woman to boot. But the author shows us Dinah’s inner strength so beautifully in so many ways, including a nearby smallpox epidemic.
Bottom Line: Healing the Mountain Man’s Heart is another layered romance from Misty M. Beller, a story whose characters won’t leave you anytime soon. I fell in love with Dinah, Naomi and the whole Coulter family (including little Apple), and the best part of this being the first in the series is that I’ll have hopefully many more opportunities to spend time with them on the pages. The author’s vivid settings and engaging writing voice paint an almost tangible picture of the place and time in which the story occurs, and the faith thread is so touching and relatable. Last, but not least, the romance is incredibly sweet, full of respect and grace as well as attraction, and I’m excited to see where the series goes from here!
(I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book which I read via Kindle Unlimited.)
What an excellent start to a new series! I loved the secluded setting and the reticent, yet caring, character of Jericho Coulter. He carried some heavy burdens on his shoulders, as he thought that he needed to keep his family isolated from most everyone in order to protect the treasure that existed on their land. He also felt that he had failed in protecting his sister years earlier, and that weighed on him. I loved seeing his heart open to Dinah and experienced his elation and even his heartache as his determination to remain isolated clashed with Dinah’s need to help others as a doctor.
The introduction to all of the Coulter brothers was wonderful and I look forward to reading their various stories. I am also intrigued to find out the back story behind Naomi and her baby and how she ended up in the situation she was in. I am eager to return to this family again in future books!
I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
Twin sisters travel a few months to respond to a mail order bride listing, only to realize, the listing was not made by the man in question, but his young niece and nephew.
Throughout this entire book the twin sister has very few scenes/lines and when she does, has zero personality….weird?!
Audiobook (narrated by Leonor A. Woodworth) What a thoroughly enjoyable historical romance. There was never any doubt for me that Jericho and Dinah would end up together, but getting there was fun to watch. I’m delighted to know that Dinah’s sister, Naomi, will get her own story, but I’ve got two more books to read before that one. Thankfully I don’t have too long to wait to read them.
Robin’s Ratings 5🌟 = Out of this world. Amazing. Unforgettable. A personal favorite. 4🌟 = Loved/really enjoyed it. Will recommend to others. 3🌟 = Liked it. Glad I read it. Engaging/entertaining/interesting. 2🌟 = The book was okay, but I’ve enjoyed other books so much more. 1🌟 = For whatever reason, I didn’t like it and can’t recommend it.
I thought this was a really good book for its time period. I liked Dinah and how strong she was. The story moves fairly quick and has just the right amount of romance. Loki g forward to more in this series
MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK Jericho Coulter holds the family secret close to his heart He is adamant about letting anyone on the property. When two strange ladies showed up at his door, Jericho wasn’t sure what to do. One was a Doctor, but the Coulters wasn’t about to trust her. But when the younger Coulter boy was injured, the family had no choice but to trust him to Dinah. But there was still the lurking question about the Mail Order Bride letter.
I love Misty Beller books and Healing the Mountain Man’s Heart is Misty at her best. I was so excited to be able to read and review Book one in the Brothers of Sapphire Ranch. I certainly did enjoy this wonderful story. I love the characters and the way they come to life more and more as I read each page of the story. I love all of the descriptive scenes Beller so beautifully paints on page after page of this fabulous story. Misty M. Beller has that special talent and ability to describe her scenes so well. I love all of Beller’s book, and have read them all so far. I can’t recommend Healing the Mountain Man’s Heart by Misty Beller enough. And as an added special, you have lots of books to choose from after you read this one. I’m giving this book Five Stars and I wish I could give it so many more.
A special thanks to the author/publisher for a copy of this book. I am not required to write a positive review, the opinions here are mine alone. I am disclosing this with my review in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255.
Healing the Mountain Man's Heart is a sweet story of determination, loyalty, and faith.
PLOT I enjoyed Dinah's loyalty to her sister and admired her dedication to tending to those who needed her assistance, even when it could endanger her life. Jericho, too, was extremely loyal--a trait I love in characters, and his grumpiness was endearing. The cast of secondary characters, too, was well-written and despite there being several supporting characters, I never once mixed them up or became confused.
PLOT/SETTING The plot was fleshed out well, and Beller did an excellent job describing the settings.
FAITH There is plenty of faith in this book, with the primary focus on trusting God and everyone being made in His image.
Characters pray, discuss God's will and the path He sets each person on, salvation and how to be saved is mentioned, hymns are mentioned, and the Bible is read.
VIOLENCE A character breaks his leg; a bear mauls someone (wound is described); people die from smallpox; the Civil War is mentioned; a mining town is alluded to being rough and unpleasant; a man tries to attack a woman and is permanently dissuaded.
CONCLUSION Healing the Mountain Man's Heart is a sweet tale that will intrigue readers of Christian historical romance.
Six brothers living on a secluded mountain ranch? Sign me up! This first book in Misty M. Beller's Brothers of Sapphire Ranch series introduces readers to the Coulters, whose stories I'm excited to read. If you enjoy rugged romance with relatable characters and strong faith elements, add Healing the Mountain Man's Heart to your TBR. 3.5/5 stars
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Jericho Coulter is the oldest brother and caretaker and protector of his family and ranch. After the death of his parents and sister, he is bound and determined to keep his family safe and their livelihood a secret from all outsiders. He was doing what he thought a good job of it too, until one day twin sisters show up looking for him to marry one of them.
Dinah and Naomi Wyatt have traveled far from Virginia to start a new life after Naomi decided to become a mail order bride to one Jericho Coulter. Dinah is a doctor, and she was not about to let her pregnant sister travel a treacherous way without her and marry a stranger. But when they get to the end of their travels, they find out Jericho never placed that add. Reluctantly and due to his brother's injury, he lets the ladies stay with them.
Jericho and Dinah begin to get to know each other, Jericho the protector and Dinah the healer, and feelings develop. They face many trials together and their love for one another grows stronger. However, Jericho is set in his ways about protecting the family and ranch even against some of his brothers' suggestions and their wishes. Dinah will not give up her profession as a doctor no matter what the cost. Can these two realize how much they need one another and can be stronger together?
What a great start to a new series. I am looking forward to seeing all of the brothers meet their matches, and that is quite possible when the truth comes out about who sent in the advertisement for a mail order bride for older brother Jericho.
This was a beautiful romantic adventure story of two people falling in love against their own wishes. I was provided a copy of this novel from the author. I was not required to post a positive review and all views and opinions are my own.
3.75 ⭐️ This was giving seven brides for seven brothers big time! Which I personally LOVED
I really don't have much to say, this is my third time trying to write this review. It was good and I loved that even though Dinah was a woman doctor which was very uncommon at the time she wasn't overbearing, she was a doctor because she genuinely cared for people not because she was a feminist trying to prove a point. Jericho's character development was amazing!
I do agree with some other reviewers about a few of Dinahs actions being quite reckless though.
My biggest complaints are: Naomi had like no personality at all, she was just there...when she was there because half the time she was completely out of the picture, which was very strange considering they went all the way out to Montana for her sake. Where are the girls parents?? Maybe I completely read over the one sentence where they were mentioned or it never said, which struck me as very odd. There were some editing issues, the biggest one being Dinah's last name abruptly changing from Wyatt to Wallace in one scene. The whole book did have a low quality feel about it.
Overall this was my favorite misty beller book Ive read yet and I think I will continue the series.
If you like 7 Brides for 7 Brothers, then read this.
Dinah and Naomi are twin sisters who answer a mail-order bride letter that sends them to Montana. The plan is for Naomi, who is pregnant, to marry Jericho, and Dinah will open a medical practice. They get there, and of course, nothing goes to plan, starting with Jericho wasn't the one to place the mail-order bride ad.
Jericho is the oldest of 6 brothers who live on a sapphire ranch along with their niece and nephew. The family has suffered loss, and to protect them, Jericho has basically shut the ranch down, not allowing any strangers on it or letting the others go to town.
There were small things that took me out of the story. It's supposed to be set in the 1850s, and the author uses words like angst. I enjoyed the faith content in the story. I really like how Dinah prayed to God for direction instead of going her own way. There were times when she did let her feelings lead her.
As for spice, there is kissing and suggestions towards the end of the story. I personally was OK with the level of spice in her, but for some people, it might be too much.
Content
Medical [smallpox description, amputation (doesn't go into too much detail)] Death Grief Sexual Assault, attempted Addiction, slight
This story is a sweet romance. There is a lot faith and religion throughout the story. Family is important for both main characters. I enjoyed watching both main characters and their families come together. There wasn't a lot of drama, which was nice.
Sweet tale of six brothers who take in a woman doctor and her pregnant sister. I enjoyed the story and am looking forward to the other brothers' stories.
3.5 it’s been a minute since I read a historical romance and this one was good!! Left on a bit of a cliffhanger though so definitely going to continue the series
I hadn't looked at the categories this book fit into when I uploaded it. That there was a woman doctor in Montana and historical fiction was enough for me. Turns out it is Christian historical fiction/clean romance and turns out, I'm hooked. On to book 2
I have been following Misty Beller for a number of years. I try to never miss one of her books. I am always excited to start a new series that she has written. Healing the Mountain Man’s Heart is the first book in her Brothers of Sapphire Ranch series. I have always been fascinated by the early women doctors. I was happy to see a woman doctor as one of the main characters in Healing the Mountain Man’s Heart. Dinah kind of reminds me of Dr. Quinn from the old tv show Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman. I appreciated the faith and trust Dinah and her sister Naomi placed in God. They truly relied on Him to help solve the problems in their lives. Dinah and Naomi are twins who are traveling west to escape how they would be looked upon once the community discovered Naomi is pregnant and not married. This book does not reveal the circumstances surrounding the pregnancy. Nor does it explain why the girls were apparently raised by their grandparents. Dinah learned how to doctor by following her Pops on his rounds from a young age. Her plan is to open a clinic in a town once she has Naomi settled with the man who requested a mail order bride. Things get interesting when it is discovered that Jericho’s orphaned niece and nephew put the mail order bride advertisement in the paper and Jericho has no interest in a wife. Naomi and Dinah love the people around them, letting God’s love shine through them. Gradually that light breaks through the tough exterior of several of the brothers. I can’t wait to see where Beller takes the Coulter brothers in future books in this series. While Healing the Mountain Man’s Heart is an adult historical fiction novel, there is nothing that would keep it from being added to a K-12 Christian school library. It is appropriate for grades 8 and up. I received a complimentary copy of Healing the Mountain Man’s Heart. This is my honest review.
Healing the Mountain Man's Heart stands as evidence to the artistry of Christian fiction, offering a clean and compelling narrative set against the breathtaking backdrop of the Montana wilderness. With an emphasis on faith, redemption, and love, Beller crafts a story that captures the hearts of readers without compromising its commitment to clean and wholesome storytelling.
At the core of this Christian romance is Jericho Coulter, a character whose gruff exterior conceals a tender heart burdened by duty and past regrets. Dinah, the whip-smart and compassionate doctor, brings a ray of light and love to Jericho's secluded world, creating a tale that beautifully balances sweet moments with the core tenets of the Christian life.
Beller masterfully portrays the challenges of frontier life, intertwining themes of faith and compassion. The interaction between characters reflects not only the ruggedness of the Montana wilderness but also the purity of their convictions. In a genre often plagued by unnecessary complexities, Healing the Mountain Man's Heart stands out as a clean and uplifting read that doesn't compromise the depth and authenticity of its characters.
Misty M. Beller demonstrates her unique ability to deliver a powerful Christian romance, leaving readers eagerly anticipating more wholesome stories from the Brothers of Sapphire Ranch series.
The audiobook version of this story beautifully enhances the narrative's brilliance, immersing listeners in this wilderness tale, adding an auditory dimension to the already exceptional storytelling!
Healing the Mountain Man’s Heart is the first book in the Sapphire Ranch series. If the rest are anything like this one I’m going to love this series. Dinah and her twin sister Naomi are headed west to start a clinic for Dinah, who is a doctor, and for Naomi to be a mail order bride. They just happen to run into her soon to be husband but he tells them they are wrong and he never advertised for a bride. Through an accident the ladies stay at the Coulter ranch while Dinah helps heal one of the brothers. Adventure and sweet romance and finding God. What more could you want? This was a wonderful book, with wonderful, strong characters you fall in love with.
“Healing the Mountain Man’s Heart” by Misty M. Beller is a historical romance set in the Montana Territory during the 1800s. The story centers on Jericho Coulter, the eldest of six brothers, who is dedicated to protecting his family and their hidden sapphire mine. He is determined to keep outsiders away to safeguard their secret. However, when Dinah Wyatt, a skilled and determined doctor, arrives at their ranch accompanying her twin sister—who believes she’s there as Jericho’s mail-order bride—Jericho’s plans are disrupted. Dinah’s medical expertise becomes invaluable when one of Jericho’s younger brothers is seriously injured, leading to her extended stay at the ranch. As Dinah and her sister become more involved in the Coulter family’s life, a romantic tension develops between Jericho and Dinah. Both must confront their personal barriers and learn to trust each other, discovering that the most significant treasures are often found within
What a great start to a series! The only things I would change would be to add more about the sapphire mine and Naomi’s history to this book. I felt like I needed more information about where/how/when they found the mine. I’m sure all of this will come in other books in the series so I can’t wait to read more.
I really enjoyed Dinah’s story. She is such a strong female doctor in a time when that profession mostly belonged to men. Jericho is such a good match for Dinah. His only downfall is he is extremely protective of his family. With help from his brothers and Dinah, he learns to lean on God and realizes he can’t always be there to protect them every minute and finally loosen his grip on them. This book I full of faith, friendship, family, and secrets. I can’t wait to read more of the series.
Healing the Mountain Man’s Heart is a tender and faith-filled romance set against a rugged, beautiful backdrop. The emotional journey of the characters feels sincere, and the themes of forgiveness and second chances are woven in naturally.
While the story follows familiar western romance elements, the heartfelt moments and strong spiritual undertones make it a comforting and uplifting read. A promising start to the Brothers of Sapphire Ranch series.
