He is a former Flight and ICU Nurse, EMT-Basic, and Returned Peace Corps Volunteer who has worked in healthcare for over twenty years. His deep respect for first responders and nurses drives him to write novels showcasing their intelligence, dedication, sacrifice, humor, and compassion. He lives with his wife and needy orange cat, who bullies their pit bull around, in Colorado and still works as an RN.

This book is focused on what it is like to be a flight nurse. Flight nurses have to be prepared for a variety of scenarios, either in the air or on land. It takes a lot of training to become a flight nurse. After completing this training, the nurses never know when they might have to apply the knowledge to a real-life situation. In this career, it is important to be able to make decisions quickly. If a patient's health changes suddenly, it is necessary for the nurses to decide on the best course of action. These nurses have to be prepared to handle many medical emergencies.

I really enjoyed this book. The author described various scenarios that a flight nurse might encounter. The book was easy to read. This book made me realize how much these flight nurses go through. This career is definitely not for everyone. I also thought it was interesting to hear about the entire process. There is a lot of preparation that goes into this job. The helicopter has to be checked over, the weather has to be safe to fly in, and the crew has to be ready with all of the necessary gear before reaching the patient. I would recommend this book to someone interested in learning about flight nurses.

I recently re-read this book after buying a copy of the new book, "Two Minutes Out". I'd read it previously last year, and the second read was just as good as the first. As a Paramedic and currently flight clinician, this book very accurately describes not only the medicine, but the culture and camaraderie we share as the few that have the pleasure of saying we do this job. It is a gripping account that hooks from start to finish.

This book not only highlights critical care medicine and transport consideration, but also the dangers of corrupt administration, pressure to fly, and the amount of personal sacrifice that those that put the uniform on endure. D. D. Finder has done an excellent job of highlighting the profession, and how the choices of many effect patient care and outcomes when life hangs on the balance. I absolutely loved this book and highly recommend both.

This was an amazing book!!! As a former EMT/Paramedic the terms, thoughts and overall general reading was great!! Even folks who are not familiar with EMS terms, this author makes everything easy to understand.
I had quite a few laugh out loud moments reading and thought "I did that!"
Excellent descriptions of procedures. Any EMS individuals, nurses, fire firefighters, and LEO's would truly enjoy reading this.

Enjoyed the book, and appreciated the extensive glossary explaining all the medical jargon. I know someone who used to work as a flight nurse, and this book was a very accurate description of her experiences. My only wish is that there had been some kind of resolution to the story. What happened with the corrupt administrator?

Have you ever thought about the people in medevac helicopters?

This is the story of the staff of four helicopters, from their training and experience, to their work, in extreme circumstances, in a hospital medevac unit. It is very informative and exciting. I look forrward to a sequel.

this was very procedural, and had interesting EMS stories. It read like people swapping their favorite EMS tales. Unfortunately, it lacked an actual plot and character development. It was good, but not great.

Very realistic

Although EMS as a whole can be considered hours of boredom followed by moments of sheer terror, for anyone who is not in emergency medicine this does not happen every shift. While being very realistic and getting all of the little details right, D.D. has a unique way of pulling you into the helicopter and raising your heartbeat like you were right there.

This was a very interesting book as I have never thought much about helicopter rescue teams. Some parts of the book were very technical and I was lucky to have some medical background to help understand what the are was saying. It definitely opened my eyes to what it must be like to be in this job and increased my respect for these professionals!
