At eighteen, Logan Anderson broke my heart, pocketed my V-card, and left our island home without a trace. Twelve years later, he's back, fully grown and a walking temptation I'm positive I can resist.
But when the group home I volunteer for is in danger, I'm left begging him for a job I have no business taking. Next thing I know, I’m trading bare feet and freedom for high heels, pencil skirts, and begrudgingly calling him my boss.
He says there's no end for us—that I'm his, and I always will be. But no amount of seduction can make me forget what happened all those years ago, and the sooner he accepts that, the better.
Loren is a connoisseur of Flamin’ Hot Cheetos and raunchy romance novels, and when she's feeling particularly wild, she might even pour herself a glass (or four) of her favorite vino. She lives in Texas with her husband, son, and furry besties - a corgi and mini-Aussie who keep her on her toes. You'll often find her lost in a good book or embarking on wild and wacky adventures with her crew.
One More Chance, book three in the Topica Bay series follows Penelope Vance, and Logan Anderson. When Logan and his family came to stay with the Vance’s for summer, Logan and Penelope were inseparable, even talking about going to college and getting married, until he disappeared from her life without a word. Now it’s been twelve years and Logan is back in town, working for his father Silas Anderson, Logan still loves Penelope and will do whatever it takes to have her back in his life. When she needs money to help the group home she volunteers at, she reluctantly takes a job working for Logan. Will Penelope and Logan be able to work past their differences and find a future, together? Or will past mistakes keep them apart?
I loved Logan from the very beginning and couldn’t help but root for him and Penelope. I absolutely loved the flashbacks and how it went back and forth between their POV’s.
Logan and Penelope met and fell in love at 18, legally adults but still kids. Unfortunately for them, there were outside forces working VERY hard to keep them apart. Namely ... Logan's father.
Penelope is a free spirit and thinker, Logan is more buttoned up and conventional. Neither feels accepted for who they are. It's been 12 years since they were separated but feelings are still there.
This book has a LOT of fun and funny scenes (SQUIRELL!!) that will have you laughing out loud and getting funny looks from those around you. Totally worth it tho.
But if you're like me and were the odd man out this book is probably going to make you cry too. I wasn't expecting that but I felt it to the core of my rainbow sheep soul.
And isn't that the mark of a fantastic story and writer? That they can pull you in and have you feeling all the feels is what makes a book worthwhile. And this book certainly fits those criteria for me.
Logan and Penelope have a lot of challenges in front of them but once they finally get past the roadblocks ... well ... you'll have to read the book to find out if they get their happily ever after :) I can't tell you EVERYTHING.
TLDR: Great book, made me cry, worth every bit of emotion.
Logan and Penelope are *chefs kiss*. I am a sucker for a second chance romance and this one knocked it out the water. The chemistry between the two characters and the dual POV made this story an emotional roller coaster. Loren really brings the story out by also by having the flashbacks so you can see how the love story began between these two. I fully expected the love and the spice (which is a lot more than I expected) but I did not expect to cry. These characters do break your heart and then make you believe in second chance romance. And also making you want to go on a tropical vacation! Must read for sure!!!
This one hurt emotionally. There was so much loss and pain between Penelope and Logan. These two are two lost souls just want to be accepted and belonged somewhere. They fell in love one summer when they were 18. We get a glimpse of that time throughout the book as it flash backs every now and then. They were so good for each other, definitely the ying to the others yang. Unfortunately Logan's dad was the devil filled in greed. He wanted his son to be just like him, so Penelope is a distraction not needed. 12 years later fate brings them back together and neither has forgotten the other. But both so heartbroken from the betrayal. That doesn't make sense, one should be feeling that not both, mmhh I see foul play here. Penelope is such a free spirit, that loves to walk barefoot and brings the rainbow and sunshine wherever she goes. Logan is a different man now. Hard hearted and ruthless like his father because he has no other choice. He was placating his father to keep the peace because that’s what he knows is safe, less argumentive and keeps his dad's approval. That's all he wanted. His dad is a mean man that manipulated and bullied his son to be like him. Logan wasn't allowed to think with his heart or out of the box because that won't make money. Anyway Penelope is desperate for money and has no choice but to work for Logan. Just until she can help those need her. This close proximity is causing old feelings to spark to life, to be honest it never wained in the first place. When truths start to come out they start to let their walls down. This was slow burn and high angst!!! There was times where I was on the edge thinking, are they ever going to get together!! My Favourite parts were when Logan starts to have fun with no restrictions, like the old times. The sad part was despite finding things out about his dad, soon as the man is in front of him he instantly bows his head and falls in line to his dad's demands. He has been so manipulated and emotionally abused, he can't see past it. He still thinks his dad loves him. This was a hard book emotionally but the fun witty banters balance it so well. I love the flirting they do too. I love how Logan shows his love and his possessive side around Penelope. The question is, when the time comes can Logan choose Penelope over his dad? What will he do when all the evidence from the past is found? How his father has been constantly deceiving and manipulating him his whole life. Will it be too late because once again Penelope has been put in 2nd place? I loved his best friend Declan. Would love to see him settled. Also Penelope's sister Carrie, is she getting a story? Loved seeing Marcus and Heather again, my favourite couple from book 2. As always Loren writes a fantastic story that pulls at your heart strings, makes you laugh out loud and then swoon. The Spicy scenes were just as good but I don't think this was as Spicy as previous book. Please read trigger warnings as there may be some sensitive subjects.
Favourite Quotes:
"Penelope is mine. Always has been, and always will be."
“Name’s Logan. Pen’s date for the evening.” A dangerous, if not cruel, smile finds my lips. “And unless you want me to tear that arm from your body, I suggest you remove it.”
“We’re yin and yang, Pen. We always have been, and nothing’s changed.”
“You claim you can’t love me, but you already do.”
“You give so much of yourself to everyone else, but tonight, I want you to be selfish. Take the pleasure I openly give you and know that it comes with no strings attached.”
“You’re the keeper of my heart, my greatest dream, and there’s no greater pleasure I could seek than yours.”
Wait, they're 30? Are you sure they're not 21 or younger? Penelope is probably supposed to come across as quirky and fancy free, but to me she is a conceited irresponsible immature spoiled brat. Logan, I don't know what I was supposed to think of him, because he had zero personality. Whoever is the stronger force currently in his life, his father or Penelope, completely overtakes his personality. Eh, the writing was fine though. And some of the minor characters were way more interesting than the main ones.
Read this if you like : 🤍Second chance 🤍It’s always been you 🤍Touch her and d!e 🤍Workplace romance
I’m always a big fan of second chance trope in books. So when I read the blurb for One More Chance, I’m instantly intrigued.
A thirty year old Penelope hadn’t held any steady job and still figuring herself where she would fit. She met Logan again after 12 years and despite wanted to resist his job offer, she had no choice but to accept it to show her parents that she can live without their help.
I absolutely love Penelope. She’s smart, funny, never care for the fame and wealth, and a helpful one. She try everything to save the group home of the Seaside Avenue even it means to let the person she love go. As for Logan, I feel sorry for him because of his father’s manipulation. Sometimes I just want to knock him and tell him the truth that Silas will always use him. Because of him, Pen and Logan lost the twelve years of missing and blaming each other. But love will always find its way right? The flashbacks were something I thought I never needed because we get to see their feelings bloom and all. I’m happy Logan realise everything before it’s too late though. And I’m glad Pen found what she’s been looking for and that epilogue was everything!
Overall, it was a well-written romance and I enjoy the book thorougly. If you’re into all the tropes listed, check this one out bestie!
“You were mine then and your mine now” “There is no end for us, Penelope”
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️
GUYS, THIS BOOK THO😍😍 Oh my god I literally loved it sooo much I was hooked from the first chapter, yous HAVE to read it like asap🫶🏼
If you like: ✨second chance ✨first lovers ✨boss and assistant ✨forced close proximity ✨obsessed with her ✨ emotional scars from the past Then this is something you NEED to read🫶🏼
Penelope is an independent, strong willed woman who would do anything for the children’s home she secretly volunteers at, so when she gets offered a job to work for her ex which would provide enough money to do so, she grits her teeth and is prepared to get on with it
Logan is the CEO of his fathers property company and is desperately trying to please his father and follow in his fathers footsteps despite the emotional trauma he puts Logan through. He acts like the tough business man his father wants to be yet this couldn’t be further from Logan’s real character. Deep down he is the sweetest man who would do anything for those he cares about🫶🏼
Can we take a moment to appreciate that he also calls her sunshine and is learning to bake🥺🥺
Pen and Logan are just the the kindest sweetest people individually even though Logan doesn’t always come across that way, and I absolutely adore them so much😍 the chemistry between them is just off the scale and if you love spice then you’ll love this book because it is STEAMY ASF🥵🌶️
I love how this book flicks between past and present so you can experience the relationship between Pen and Logan from the beginning! You can just tell they belong together which is so cute🥺
🔴Just a warning though there is reference to self harm and sexual assault however the author has written about this sensitively and respectfully
Title: One More Chance (Topica Bay Series) Author: Loren Beeson Hero/Heroine: Logan & Penelope Tropes: Childhood Sweethearts, Second Chance, Close Proximity, Workplace, He Falls First,
tw/cw: parental disassociation, attempted sexual assault, self harm, toxic parental relationship, emotional and physical abuse
✨the good ✨
Damn you Loren Beeson, you do this to me every time! Awake until after midnight because I couldn’t put this book down until I found out what happened between Logan and Penelope. I mean the eye bags were totally worth it and at least it’s Friday, but still.
Meeting as teenagers when Penelope’s parents offer him and his parents a place to stay, Logan was immediately enamoured with the rebellious and outgoing girl. When they cross that line into something more, they’re inseparable. Until Logan’s Dad finds out and the shit hits the fan.
Flipping between the past and the present, this book had me completely consumed in Logan and Penelope’s relationship, both then and now. They were so good for each other, and I loved witnessing them lower their defences, growing closer despite their past and how it ended between them. I was literally white knuckling my kindle, hoping that Logan would come to his senses and realise that the one person he was meant to trust had been playing him all along.
One More Chance was a wonderful story about second chances and two people finally figuring out their place in the world. I’d have to say that Logan and Penelope were my favourite of the Topica Bay couples. I adored them.
✨ the bad ✨
Logan’s Dad. What a twat. I was hoping he’d get his comeuppance, although the part with the chicken absolutely killed me.
Thank you to the author for providing me with a copy of this to read. This is my honest review.
✨overall thoughts: a wonderfully sweet and spicy second chance romance ✨ heat level: 🌶️🌶️🌶️ ✨ star rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This was such a sweet, second chance romance. I liked that we got the past and present pov’s. Got an understanding on what went down between Logan and Penelope 12 years ago, that broke them apart.
You also get some opposites attract as Penelope is your free spirit, doesn’t want to be tied down to a business sitting behind a desk. No she rather be outside bare foot and just living life to the fullest. Then you got Logan, who is everything you would expect him to be as a rich businessman. But somehow these two just work together.
With the few glimpses we get of their past, you just want to break with them. I was getting a little upset with Logan and how we was with his dad. I understood where he was coming from but I also hated it. So I was happy to see him get his HEA in the end. . . . 4️⃣⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌶️🌶️ 🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻 7/10 recommendation
As seen on my blog (Jessie's Reading Corner): TITLE: One More Chance AUTHOR: Loren Beeson SERIES: Topica Bay SERIES ORDER: 3 RELEASE DAY: 9/12/2023 GENRE: Contemporary Romance CW/TW: attempted SA, mentions of self harm RATING: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
DISCLAIMER: I voluntarily read and reviewed an advance copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
You know what makes a great author? When they can take a character that you dislike and make you love them!
I’ve been a fan of Loren Beeson’s since her Betting on Love series. I think every book she puts out is phenomenal, and I’ve been blessed to be a part of her ARC team! I’ve loved her Topica Bay series and when she started teasing us with Book #3 (One More Chance), I was hooked! I love a good Second Chance romance and who doesn’t love it when the heroine or hero goes absolutely feral at the idea of another woman or man harming the other? Also, Loren really knows how to create a sexy and fun story! (Some of the teasers she put out were steamy!!!!) So when the ARC landed in my Kindle, I was all too happy to start reading it, until I met the heroine Penelope.
If you’ve read my reviews, or looked at the review policy on my blog, you know I have a low tolerance for heroines. They can really make or break a story for me. I don’t really know what it is, maybe jealousy on my part?, but I’m starting to realize that I’m being unfairly judgmental to some fictional characters lol. Anyway, I really loved the character growth that Penelope (and Logan) went through in this book, and how perfect they ended up being for each other! Loren uses flashbacks to give us a glimpse of Logan and Penelope in the past when they first fell in love with each other, and it really enhances their story!
In addition to Penelope and Logan, I just love the island of Topica Bay and all it’s characters! Loren’s created such imagery with her words that sometimes I feel like I am right there with the characters!
I think everyone should read this book (especially if you like second chance romance.) It’s definitely one of my favorites and I can’t wait to read more!
I received this ARC! One of my favorite books was One More Kiss: Tropica Bay Book #1. I LOVED it. It only makes sense this book is great, too! Loren always makes these books beautiful and gives you all the feels in exchange for some hardships and struggles the main characters must overcome.
Both characters, Penelope and Logan, are thirty years old. I find that in many of my favorite books, the characters are in their late twenties to early thirties. It just seems right.
Penelope is relatable, and Logan is my type of guy. That is what makes a book enjoyable for me. Characters you love and a wonderful storyline.
Loren writes in a way that wants you to keep reading. Her spicy scenes give all the feels. This is the perfect book to read right now!
Penelope's life is in shambles, and she needs a job. Logan, her old flame, has a position open. Close proximity, unfinished business, and sexual tension. This book was just what I needed. I recommended!
Ooohhhh man this book had me running through all of the emotions of this amazing rollercoaster. I had the pleasure of meeting the author Loren Beeson at a book convention in May and purchased the first two books in this series. This book is a story I will definitely read over and over again. Loren has created such a beautiful world full of characters that you can’t help but fall on love with. Penelope is a strong, independent woman that most definitely does things her own way. She’s never confirmed to anybody and doesn’t want to. Her personality is about as bright and beautiful as the sunsets of Tropica. However being strong willed doesn’t always allow you to be financially secure but Penelope always finds her way. Only now it’s not just her she wants to help, she’s found a beautiful group home for kids that needs her help but she’s not sure how to help. Fate sometimes will bring us exactly what we need to make our dreams come true but at what expense? Logan has always strived for his father’s approval in all aspects of his life yet still feels as if he falls short. Logan has returned to the place that brought him true happiness for a summer, however his heart is still cold as ice. While striving for his place in his fathers world Logan’s past literally comes to his office doorstep, but is he strong enough to hold onto this time? What do you do when it seems the most important people in your world do everything to keep you from true happiness? Are things always exactly as we think they are, or do secrets hide in plain site? Will Logan and Penelope be able to find their way to what they both truly want in their lives and trust that it’s real? I couldn’t put this book down once I started it and I had tears rolling down my face a couple of times while reading this book. This story has some super hot and spicy scenes that truly had me wanting more! Loren truly had me all up in my feels throughout this entire story and I truly hope to see more of these characters in more books for this series. If you haven’t started this series I beg you to do so!
It was so easy rooting for Pen and Logan. They were so perfect for each other. They have amazinf chemistry, great banter and so much love. I loved how much they both grew. They both learned to live for themselves to not be ashamed and to stand up for urself and what u believe in.
Not only are Logan and Pen so supportive of each other and have such a deep belief in one another, the side characters are so supportive as well. They were really all like one giant family.
I found the book to be very sweet, funny and steamy. Definitely recommend it to anyone thats looking for a somewhat light read.
This is a really good one and we dive right back into the world of Topica Bay. I admit that all I had to read was it is a second chance and I knew I had to read this one. I do love when a couple has a second chance sure love is hard but sometimes it is meant to be even if you've lose each other once.
It is so well written and this author is a one click for me.
One More Chance is absolute perfection, a must read , a emotional rollercoaster that’s guaranteed to grab onto all your emotions so quickly and have you falling hook line and sinker in love . Tropes 💗Second chance 💜rom com 💗friends to lovers 💜grumpy sunshine and found family . I’m usually someone who reads dark themed romance pretty much 95% of the time . So it’s not often I get to pick up a feel good love story that has the ability to put a smile on my face from start to finish, to make me laugh out loud , make me cry and keep my rooting so freaking hard . Well Loren’s Topica Bay series has done just that and so much more . Each book and each couple so so wonderfully written and so unique . I really did not think it was possible to choose a favorite but Logan and Penelope just might be the exception. These two were meant to be together. Sure their journey definitely was not all hearts and flowers they definitely had to overcome some obstacles to be together . This is a journey about first love and how unfortunate circumstances tore them apart . Fate does step In years later and once again brings them back together but can they open their hearts and learn to trust each other again .In all honesty there just are not any perfect words to do this amazing story enough justice. You simply need to pick it up , go in with a completely open mind and experience all its perfection for yourself.
“I’m not stubborn,” I grumble. “I’m just efficient at resisting your commands.” Twelve years of heartache. Twelve years of losing yourself. Twelve years where you wonder how did you ended up here. When you accidentally run into your teenage love would do? Avoid, avoid , until you can’t anymore. Penelope and Logan have a history. A summer of first and a friendship developing into something beautiful. But suddenly that person is ripped from your life and you try to pick up the pieces the best you can. Penelope refuses to conform to others expectations of her. Logan lives his life by the book, never stepping out of line and keeping things status qou. When unfortunate decisions and events lead Penelope in search of new opportunities, Logan is the last person she expected to see. Is the damage so deep between the two there is no hope for reconciliation? Do they even still have feelings for each other? True love is what came to mind when reading this. Penelope and Logan are truly soulmates. Logan made his intentions clear and there were no games on who and wants. Penelope isn’t quite on the same page yet. The hurts are deep and there is one huge obstacle in the way. Growth, reconciliation, healing, heartbreak…their story was beautiful. I rooted for them. I loved the side characters and the way these two were just adults!
This is my first time reading this author and I enjoyed reading about Penelope and Logan. If you love second chance romance, employee/boss relationship, with banter, then check this out!
I loved reading how Logan and Penelope both still had feelings for each other and that there were unanswered questions. I knew Logan's dad must have done or said something to Penelope right when they were about to head off to college that made Logan and Penelope lose contact. That was one character I didn't like, his dad.
I'm so happy that Logan and Penelope figured out their feelings and that their love blossomed! Their chemistry was amazing!
Penelope is struggling with money and has found a new job however she finds that her job is to be the assistant to her former love who broke her heart.
Logan is the ceo of a company his dad owns and when he found penelope was the one to receive the interview he couldn’t wait for her to work with him.
These two are so cute 🥰 I also love Declan I’m hoping he gets a story. There’s second chance there’s secrets and a lot standing in the way.
I want to thank loren for allowing me an arc to this book. I enjoyed it and know others are going to too 🥰🥰
This book is everything you want in a summer romance! It’s a second chance about a wild fmc who hates wearing shoes and loves with her whole ass heart. MMC is a business man taking after his abusive manipulative father when he runs back into Penelope interviewing for his company. She realizes she must take his offer of doubling her pay if she wants to save the orphanage she volunteers in. I Loved Penelope in a staring at a car crash way. She comes off as so irresponsible and carefree and I wanna be her and mom her all at once. Fmc, Logan is just obsessed with Penelope and it was so hot to see him lose it when Penelope gets attacked by a friend. He also has fun with her toys and literally worships her and it leaves you wanting more than words on a page from Logan. I’d really like to share a meal with Logan if you get my drift. Wink. Wink. Be his meal. I also loved that we didn’t have a big fight with the abusive father. Things ended so nicely with a pretty bow on top and I couldn’t have asked for a cleaner ending.
“One More Chance” is the third book in Loren Beeson’s Topica Bay series, and it’s Logan and Penelope’s angsty second chance romance. I thought this was a great read; even with all the drama, Logan and Penelope were made for each other. I loved how loyal Logan was to the people he cared about and how he loved Penelope for who she was without wanting to change her. Penelope was a ray of sunshine, and I loved how she was always unapologetically herself. Together, they made a wonderful couple whose relationship had a lot of complex layers. I would definitely recommend if you like second chance and/or billionaire romance!
This was the first time I'd read Loren Beeson, but she has been on my TBR list since coming across her at a signing last year. I was not disappointed and can't wait to go back for more!
One More Chance has it all, Second chance, forced proximity, first lovers, boss & assistant, highly protective male, and some super spicy scenes.
I absolutely loved Penelope from the start. She is strong, determined, is a free spirit, and just wants to help everyone she can. She does things her own way and doesn't want to rely on others for help....unless she absolutely has to!
I enjoyed the way Penelope and Logan come back into each others lives, and you slowly unravel the past, whilst developing both characters in the here and now as their chemistry rekindles.
There were some brilliant moments that made you smile, but do be aware of some potential trigger warnings - check before reading.
Definitely one to read, I couldn't put it down and read most of it during one flight!
I'm a sucker for a good second chance romance and this checked all the boxes for me. I loved every second of it and couldn't put it down. It's a very fast read and I hope everyone loves it as much as me
This story just blows me away. This is one of my favorite second Chance stories. The characters had so much heart. The way that they never truly got over each other touch my heart. This is how true love is.
