Winter Wanderlust #2

Frosty Proximity

Rate this book
The snowstorm of the century is approaching, and my only hope of getting home for Christmas is my grumpy, rich, and definitely off limits client.

A closed airport, fifty miles of Swiss countryside, and the threat of record-breaking wind and snow stand between me and flying back to my family in New York. The family that labels my job as a personal stylist as “frivolous” and “shallow.”

My client, Peter, is working just as hard as I am to get me on that plane.

It seems he really doesn’t want me crashing his family’s Chanukah based on the tension in the air and the grunts he aims my way.

Grunts I should not find sexy.

But we may not have a choice. And when his family opens their warm, cozy home to me, I may realize that, beneath his frost, Peter makes me melt.

About Liz

I spent ten years traveling the world on a sailboat with my husband. He is not a secret rockstar, nor a grumpy farmer, nor a coworker I accidentally saw naked. I only see him naked intentionally.

Many of my books are based on my travels all over the world – from the Caribbean to Polynesia to Europe. I know exactly how big the world is—having sailed around it—and exactly how small it is, having bumped in to friends worldwide. I’ve been a dishwasher, an engineer, a CEO, and occasionally I get paid to write or sail.

Now I’m in my small town era, both in fiction and real life. I live in Western Massachusetts with a big backyard that would be perfect for a goat if only SOMEONE would let me have one. I like my men to be sweethearts, the bedroom door wide open (with a splash of something new!) and the women to be independent and mature.

I love a good Christmas hallmark-y grumpy/sunshine trope book. There's just nothing better to start out heading into the holiday seasons, but what sets this book apart from many others, is that it's a Christmas and Hanukkah book. Despite having that Hallmark feel, it also portrays real life/family issues.

I adored Kara and Peter and their banter. Peter is Kara's new client and she's trying to get beach to her family in New York
Yes, this might be a bit cliche because of the stuck at the airport because of the weather and her flight was canceled, but I think that's what many, including myself, also love about it. It brings upon that warm nostalgic feeling back. Naturally, Peter brings her back to celebrate Hanukkah with his family instead of staying holed up in a hotel by herself for the holidays.

It was wholesome but with some spice. It was a quick read that I did in one sitting but it was just right. I curled up on the couch with a blanket on a later afternoon and finished less than couple hours later.

Thanks to Netgalley and it's publishers for this ARC in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.

3 ⭐️ The story itself is cute, but the writing was weird.

I liked the idea of our FMC, Kara, having a more traditionally female role but taking it to the next level, building a career and maintaining a successful business. The fact that Peter, our MMC, is one of her newer clients who has developed the biggest crush on her sounds so lovely.

The idea is great, but the execution was not my favourite. The characters didn't feel all the way fleshed out, and there was no real chemistry between them. I loved Peter's family, and including a trans teen (Peter's niece) really sold this book to the 3 stars. Otherwise, I would've given it a 2.5. The majority of the narration felt flat -like we were being told everything, instead of showing what was happening. It wasn't all like that, but it felt that way. There was no depth to the characters, to their inner monologues or anything that truly made the book stand out. There were a couple of spicy scenes but they felt... really realistic. And I mean that in a bad way lol.

This would've been a great first try for a full-length novel, but this isn't even the first book in this author's series. I don't think I'll continue with the series.

🌶.5 / 5

PS. The blurb on Goodreads says the name of the MMC's Jeb. It's not!

*Thank you so much NetGalley for the eARC!*

Snowed in for Hanukkah

For a novella this packed a lot of punch!! I loved that it was a co-worker romance and took place over Hanukkah with an only one bed situation. I also really loved that Peter’s sister was trans and that was a big part of the story!! Great diversity, swoony, he falls first romance and lots of family drama. Highly recommended!!

This little holiday novella was SO CUTE and gave me the “sitting in front of a fire with a cup of hot cocoa” cozy vibes. But spicy. 🤌🏽

❄️ TROPES & THEMES ❄️
✔️ one bed
✔️ forced proximity (they are snowed in 🥹)
✔️ he’s her client
✔️ muffled 🌶️ 👀
✔️ “like a hallmark movie - but make it spicy”
✔️ stranded for Christmas
✔️ she’s stuck with his family and it’s SO WHOLESOME!
✔️ HEA stand-alone

Firstly thank you NetGalley and Liz Alden for sending me an ARC! I really had so much fun reading this story. It’s easily bingeable in one sitting. Our FMC is stuck out of country after all the flights got cancelled and her client (she’s a stylist), Peter, takes her home to his parents as they snuggle up and celebrate Hanukkah.

The vibes were so good. The banter and tension was yummy too! I desperately needed a palette cleanser book - and this book not only jumpstarted my reading passion but gave me the urge to skip spooky season altogether and dive right into holiday/winter reads. 🤣

We had spice, we had drama, we had heartwarming moments… and most importantly, an HEA!

I’m so happy I found this story, I loved it so! I can’t wait to read more of Liz’s written works!

I did receive this book as an arc and these are my honest thoughts!

Loved this!! Super cute and spicy!! Peter’s family was awesome and I loved all of the trans rep in this!! Definitely a great holiday read, the mix of Hanukkah and Christmas was great. If the family vibes don’t warm you up the spice definitely will!

Curl up this Christmas with a fun, festive, cozy rom-com! 𝐅𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐲 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐱𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐲 is the perfect holiday read. It’s light hearted, sweet, and gender inclusive. I loved so many things about this book. The budding relationship between our MC’s was absolutely swoon worthy. The bond Kara makes with Sylvie made my heart so happy 🥰 And as someone who married into a Jewish family it was really cool to see those traditions explored in a holiday romance.

About 𝐅𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐲 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐱𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐲:
With a snowstorm on the way, Kara has no hope of making it home for Christmas. That only leaves her with one option. Spend the holidays with her grumpy, rich, and off limits client. When Peter’s family opens up their warm, cozy home to Kara lines begin to blur between business and pleasure.

The Tropes:
🛏️ One Bed
❄️ Snowed in
☀️ Grumpy x Sunshine
☃️ Client x Business relationship
♥️ He falls first
🎄 Family Christmas

All things considered I genuinely enjoyed this book. I highly recommend picking this one up this holiday season ❄️☃️ Thanks to the author for providing me with an ARC in exchange for my honest review. Now excuse me while I go pull out my Christmas tree and bake some Christmas cookies! ♥️

OH MY FROSTY STARS!!! This is the cutest book ever and perfect for the holiday season!! I absolutely loved it so much!! I literally could not put it down and finished it in one day. Frosty Proximity has a grumpy/sunshine trope, forced proximity, he's her client/she's his professional stylist, hallmark movie vibes and is filled with tension, banter, chemistry, drama, humor, love, self discovery, wonderful family and amazing friendships!! I really enjoyed that this unique holiday romance focused on Christmas AND Hanukkah. The author does an awesome job making the characters feel real and relatable and I could see myself spending time with them. I am quickly becoming a huge fan of Liz Alden and cannot wait to read more of her books! Such a beautifully written story that will make you smile, laugh and swoon!! 🩵☃️❄️☃️❄️🩵

Kara is stranded in a foreign country with no hopes of getting home for Christmas because a snowstorm of the century has caused the airport to cancel all flights. Her client, Peter, invites her to spend the holidays with his family. However, does Peter really want her crashing his family's Hanukkah? It seems Kara really does not have another option. Immediately, his family is very welcoming and makes her feel like she belongs. The only issue is that space is limited and Peter and Kara end up sharing the only empty bedroom!

Overall, its a sweet, cozy and heartwarming read with a HEA that I highly recommend!! All the frosty stars!!! ✨✨✨✨✨

Another hallmark Christmas film type of book, that again gets me excited for the Christmas holidays!

I loved the forced proximity in this book, but I personally didn’t like the writing of the book and for me there was just something missing.

I also didn’t realise that there was another book before this (although they don’t need to be read together), but I probably won’t be giving the first book or any future books a try.

For enabling me to read this book in exchange for an unbiased review, I would like to thank Netgalley and the author. Anyone who enjoys a Christmas romance will appreciate this; therefore, I was quite eager to read it! I adore cartoon covers because I always know that what's beneath them shouldn't be exhibited in or related to a cartoon lol, which is what really pulled me in to request this book. What I really liked was how short this book was and the story as I read it in one sitting. While reading this, I was disappointed quite quickly. I really didn't like the author's writing in this book; she was putting in foreign phrases or slang and expecting people to just know what it was, and the storyline was the most disappointing of all. It was never really clear what was going on, and it was just jumping from situation to situation without any notice and just having to guess what was going on. What I did enjoy was the cultural aspect of this, especially with Hanukkah, the lighting of the candles, and the Jewish baking. Personally, it was the trope that put me off, as it was almost like insta love, which I really don't like. The whole get-together was too quick for my liking, but the found family I loved. Overall, this just wasn't for me, which is really upsetting as this was one of my most anticipated reads for holiday romance.

Frosty Proximity follows Kara who is left stranded for the holidays after her plans to travel home are scrapped due to a snowstorm. Her client, Peter, feeling apologetic invites her to spend Chanukah with his family. This was a fast, heart-warming holiday-themed book. I loved the characters and what they each brought to the story.

I would’ve loved it if the romance between Kara and Peter was more detailed. I wanted to have tiny moments that lead up to their relationship being just clients to more so that it would feel more authentic to me.

However, this is such a great book to pick up if you’re in a reading slump and you want something short and sweet. It’s also a great book to read if you need an easy read.

Thank you to NetGalley and Victory Editing NetGalley Co-op for providing me with this ARC. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I am TRASH for *there was only one bed* and FROSTY PROXIMITY deeee-livvv-ered. These leads had great chemistry and I loved Peter and Kara both so much.

I am always on the hunt for non-Christmas holiday romances so I was excited that Peter is Jewish and the majority of this book takes place at his home. I soooo wish there had been even more Chanukah in this book. I was longing for it! GIVE ME MORE!

My bigger issue was that these two fell in love over the span of three most uneventful days. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I think I would have prefered a lets-see-where-this-goes ending because I just didn't believe entire lives were being redirected based on this one weekend.

Having said that, FROSTY PROXIMITY was a quick read with so much great representation, some great only-one-bed steamy scenes, and what seemed like the start of a great romance.

𝗦𝗧𝗘𝗔𝗠 𝗟𝗘𝗩𝗘𝗟: Rated R / 2-4 descriptive sex scenes, may have harsh language.

Frosty proximity is a Holiday novella part of the Winter Wonderlust series by author Liz Alden. It follows Kara, a personal stylist that due to a snow storm is left stranded in Switzerland during the holidays. She ends up spending the holidays with one of her clients, Peter.

I knew this was going to be fast paced, but I think it ended up being a little too fast paced for my liking. The story is set in a span of three days, and the main characters are basically strangers. This had a lot of heartwarming and fun moments, but I wish there more scenes before the romance blossomed. I this needed to be a little longer.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This book was very short but very sweet. I loved getting to see more of Clara and Nash all the while getting to see Kara and Peter’s relationship bloom. There was some spicy bits but I truly enjoyed how the book focused a lot on the aspect of family. Especially when it came to Sylvie, Peter was so protective of her but it made my heart melt seeing how Kara helped her feel more comfortable with herself.

Frosty Proximity is a fast, fun, holiday page-turner that hits all my favorite tropes. Grumpy sunshine? Check. Holiday swoons? Check. Picturesque setting? Check.

Y'all know I'm a beach weather kind of girl, but Frosty had me yearning for snow and snuggling by the fire. Loved this!

I really, really enjoyed this sweet story about Kara & Peter. Forced proximity, grumpy sunshine, only one bed-what more could you ask for? Peter has THE sweetest family & Kara fit right in so perfectly. The family traditions of Hanukkah were so warm to discover and Liz is so good at sharing things with her readers. Her attention to detail and descriptive writing always makes you feel like you’re in the story. Kara’s friends are a hoot and an incredible support system to her. Super excited to read about Bea next holiday season. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed all of the books I’ve read by Liz Abe encourage you to pick one up.

Every single time I read one of Liz Alden's novellas, they get better and better. "Frosty Proximity" is my favorite one so far! I absolutely loved it. This novella perfectly balances hotness, sweetness, family bonding, and Christmastime merriment to make one heck of a story. I adored the main characters, Kara and Peter. in my opinion, they feel realistic and are fully fleshed out. They are both more than meets the eye. We get to know them quickly and efficiently, bonding with them in just a short time. Though this is a short story, each page packs a potent punch of emotion and slow-burning sexiness. Only one bed and forced proximity? Yes, please! Grumpy main male character? You don't have to ask me twice! They need to be quiet because there's family around? OHHHH YEAH. A wholesome family and a wonderful plot about acceptance and kindness? yesyesyes! This novella has everything. I highly recommend reading this during the holiday season. It's got something for everyone!

This story is so smart, clever and entertaining. It’s not the usual holiday novella; it’s fairly realistic and low drama.
It doesn’t force you to feel sentimental, happy, etc… it made me feel those things on its own merit, It’s quite a lovely story.
It is beautifully written, emotional and funny. There’s great steam with the forced proximity and the interactions with family are heartfelt and beautiful.
It feels pretty natural and real, and it still has so much holiday atmosphere and family warmth.
I love all the characters and the gentle touch the author writes with.
It’s such a heartfelt holiday romance with fabulous characters and warm interactions between them.
I love every single interaction, every moment is beautiful and heartwarming.
I LOVE this story and author. It’s such a unique and satisfying storytelling style, I’m a big fan. I highly recommend this and all the authors books.

Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with a copy of Frosty Proximity by Liz Alden. This was so much fun to read and got me in the christmas mood. I loved reading about how different cultures celebrate events and seeing both Christmas and Hanukkah was really interesting! I also loved the mentions of so many romance authors; some of my favourites were talked about by Kara and she’s got great taste. Bring on the Christmas books!
I also loved the trans representation; the makeup scene made me so happy.

This second book in the series is a jolly good addition and so much fun while dealing with some rather real and harsh issues that many deal with today. She is building a business around a job that she enjoys greatly and is top notch at, but her family all look down on her as frivolous and silly. He's worked his way to the top of his very technical field, is well respected, loves his family, but is terrified to get close to someone as they may turn out to be a bigot and hurt a close family member who is transitioning. He's Jewish, she's not. Can you see where I am going here? You got it! An opposites attract and oh boy, do they ever attract! You could also call it a grumpy sunshine as that fits along with the opposites attract theme and describes the characters well too! The story is sweet and heartfelt with just enough spice to ramp up the romance a bit! Once again, this author makes Christmas and Chanukah the holidays to love! I'm really hoping that we will see more books involving these characters and might Bea's story be next....please, please, please!!!! Ok, the reality of the author actually seeing my little review is slim, but if you all read the books (in order for best reading pleasure) and then also beg for Bea's story to be next then maybe we can make enough noise that she will write it! Kind of a reverse "create it and they will come" philosophy, you know we came so now you need to write it for us! So quick go get the Nutcracker with Benefits (a fun spicy read) then read this book then leave reviews and beg for Bea's story to be next! Help a girl out, would ya!?!

I cannot believe how good this book was!! I’m not really a short-story or novella reader but this book did it for me. It’s officially entered me into a novella phase!

The book follows Peter and Kara—the former a businessman who’s into coding and the latter a businesswoman who has her own styling business. Peter is Kara’s client and the book follows their story as they meet up for a fitting session in Switzerland just around Christmas. Both have plans of finishing up and heading home for Hanukkah and Christmas respectively. Kara plans to go to New York while Peter goes to Germany to his family home.

But alas, a snow storm falters their plans and all flights are cancelled. There is no way Kara can go home now so Peter must do the gentlemanly thing and invite her to spend Hanukkah with his family. Chemistry burns, proximity increases and Peter and Kara give into the force that seems to be pulling them together.

There is obvious attraction from both sides but one lives in NY and one in Switzerland. Can national borders prevent them from having a relationship? Read to find out!

I love the smooth flow of the book, the Trans representation through Peter’s niece Sylvie and the holiday spirit encompassed by both Christmas and Hanukkah. There’s obvious chemistry, positive friendships and both strained and comforting family relations.

There’s really nothing you can’t love about this book! I thoroughly enjoyed it . It was a pretty fast read and I’d recommend reading it to all! Especially if you’re looking for something to finish off your reading goal.

Great book!

Age Rating: 14+
Triggers: Trans representation, transphobia (very mildly explained and NOT SUPPORTED AT ALL), strained family relationships.
Tropes: “once-you-know-you-know”, forced-proximity, holiday romance, office romance

I think this book has officially launched me into holiday mode, and I love that. This was a rather short and quick read, but didn’t feel rushed.

While there were absolutely some very hot moments, I absolutely loved the sweet moments both between the main characters with each other, as well as with family. I love reading about families, and Peter's family was amazing, I loved how welcoming they were to Kara. I also appreciated that it was also shown that things aren’t always perfect with family and Kara was honest with her family about how she feels. It was refreshing and real, and I liked how that was handled.

I've read quite a few of Liz Alden’s books, but have not read Nutcracker With Benefits. I was a bit worried at first that not having done so, not knowing who Clara and Nash really were, would be inconvenient but this still definitely works as a stand-alone story. I do think readers who have read that book will love their inclusion of this, but it’s not necessary. Just like readers of Riesling With My Roommate (like me!) will love the little nod to Alwin.

I’m so pleasantly surprised with how much was packed into this ~150ish page book. I loved the representation, and how tough topics were handled. And I always love when safe sex and contraception is included in a steamy scene. I know I said it earlier, but I want to repeat that I really like how real this story felt. I adored it.

Thank you to the author & NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review an advanced copy of this book! I voluntarily read this book, and all thoughts and opinions are my own.

**Edited to add: my original review mentioned the way having kids was talked about / overheard, and how I was seeking more of a conversation about this between the characters. Since posting my review, I have heard from the author & was sent an update to the story where the characters had exactly the conversation that I was hoping for, and I love the way that it was included. I have updated my rating and removed that part of my review as it is no longer applicable. I already adored the story and would not hesitate to recommend it, now it’s even more so :)

When Kara is left stranded in Switzerland just before Christmas, she has two options: to spend Christmas alone in a hotel room (or airport floor), or accept her client's, Peter, offer to join him and his family for Chanukah. Choosing the latter, Kara and Peter's relationship will evolve in something more than just professional.

This novella is a must-read for this holiday season! Liz Alden got me kicking my feet and giggling.
"Frosty Proximity" is a short story featuring one bed, forced proximity, grumpy/sunshine tropes. It is an heart-warming story with beautiful and intricate characters that add more depth to the story. I could have easily read a 500 pages version of this book if it meant I could hear more about Peter and hi family's story. I would have loved to have more insight in Kara and Peter relationship, but Liz Alden did an amazing job describing the tension and feelings anyway, so much that it just makes you want more and more!
And don't get me started on the spicy scenes! Peter is a quiet guy with FIRE inside him! In short - this books has everything you need in a rom-com!

Honestly a brilliant book - fast paced, short and sweet. Everybody should pick this book up!

This was another cute and quick read. I love Christmas romances and this one actually combined Christmas and Hanukkah, which made it more unique than most holiday romances out there. Peter was shy at first since he had a crush on Kara, but when things heat up between them, he comes out of his shell and turns on the charm. Kara had a unique occupation, so I have to give the author props for making the characters memorable. I loved their chemistry together, even if they did seem to fall in love a bit too quickly for my liking. But I guess they did know each other virtually for a year, so it's not like they were complete strangers prior to meeting in person.

I loved Peter's family. They were so welcoming to Kara when she showed up unexpectedly with Peter. And Kara's family turned out to not be so bad by the end.

I'm quickly becoming a Liz Alden fan. Her books are always quick and light reads, with heat to go with it.

Quick Summary: A close encounters novella

My Review: Frosty Proximity by Liz Alden is a fast-paced quick read that is associated with Winter Wanderlust. It is book 2.

About the Book: Two professionals who find each other attractive are put into a compromising situation. Their forced proximity and temporary shared rooming arrangement during a major storm lead to an inevitable coupling. What happens when they are faced with having to get back to life?

My Final Say: This sweet and spicy read was very entertaining. Readers who want a sexy short story with likable characters will go for this book.

Other: This would be excellent as an audiobook.

A cute, forced proximity Christmas story.

I enjoyed it overall, but think it suffered from the novella-syndrome. You know, the one where all of a sudden the relationship is rushed. I felt like we went from clients who feel a bit awkward around each other to feeling very familiar and comfortable around each other a bit too quickly. There was no real relationship build up, just a shift that I couldn't pinpoint, if that makes sense. Other than that, I liked the family moments with Sylvia and Juna, and really liked Peter's chivalry and gentlemanly ways.

Kara is Peter's personal stylist. When Kara's flight home for Christmas is unexpectedly cancelled due to a snowstorm, Peter invites her to spend the holidays with him at his parents’ house. She reluctantly agrees, after all, her options are limited. With Peter's entire family staying at his parents’ house to hunker down for the storm, the bedrooms are FULL. Peter and Kara decide that as mature adults they can share a room... and thus a bed. Will this platonic bed sharing arrangement turn into more?

I love how this story unfolded. This was a slow burn—but not so slow that I lost interest. I read this in one sitting and could absolutely not sleep until I finished. The main characters were developed beautifully and I found myself invested in their lives. I highly recommend this book to any romance lover—it’s an excellent holiday read! This book is the perfect blend of cute romance and SPICE!

3 stars for Kara and how amazing she was with Sylvie!

This is my first book by this author and I suspect she has an earlier book with some of the side characters in. I did get a bit confused initially with who was who and how they were linked.
There were some nice moments in the story but the relationship between Peter and Kara felt very forced and unnatural. I didn’t feel much chemistry between them at all until near the end and even then it wasn’t very convincing. Kara’s relationship with her parents was confusing- they’re constantly criticising her yet she does seem close with them? I wasn’t quite sure what was going on there.

I enjoyed the original storyline and the heartwarming moments between Kara and members of Peter’s family.

Thank you NetGalley for this ARC.

☃️Holiday
☃️Forced Proximity
☃️Grumpy/Sunshine
☃️Just One Bed

Frosty Proximity is the perfect holiday read. It is like a Hallmark movie but with a little added spice. I really enjoyed the relationship building between Peter and Kara. It was a little cheesy at times but that is what I expect from a holiday romance. I especially loved Peter’s family and how they made Kara feel like she was one of them. The banter between Kara and Peter had me laughing out loud at times. This was an all around feel good read and perfect for a palette cleanser. This can easily be read in one sitting and will definitely help you get into the holiday spirit.

Kara, a stylist from the USA, is supposed to be flying home from Switzerland right before the holidays. But when the storm of the century grounds all flights, her client Peter invites her to spend Chanukah with his family.

This is your classic boss/employee, grumpy–sunshine, forced-proximity romance—complete with an only-one-bed situation. I was hoping for a bit more depth in the romance and the relationship development, but the charming characters and the warm, welcoming family holiday atmosphere made this a fun read.

Overall, this is a quick and easy holiday romance with all the familiar forced-proximity and grumpy–sunshine vibes!

Thank you to Liz Alden and NetGalley for the ARC. All opinions are my own.
