Pining for You (also in This Time Around)

Christmas tree farm owner Theo Watkins III has the opportunity to drop everything for one weekend to play farmer in a cozy Virginia mountain town and potentially win back the heart of his childhood best friend, Skye Fuller. Description:
Get swept away with this sweet, cozy holiday romantic 2-in-1 audiobook from Melissa Ferguson!

Dashing Through the Snow:
“When Willow’s boyfriend of seven years dumps her on the eve of a romantic getaway, she decides to take the two-week train trip on The Christmas Express alone. Hurt as she feels, she can’t anticipate how the hilarious rebound ride with conductor Oliver, elf Ian, and aging world adventurer Clarence will heal her heart—and renew her sense of worth.”

Pining for You:
“Welcome to a cozy Virginia mountain town where Christmas tree farm owner Theo Watkins III has the opportunity to drop everything for one weekend to play farmer and potentially win back the heart of his childhood best friend, Skye Fuller. Only problem? He’s the kind of man who drives a Tesla, not a tractor.”

This was my first time *reading* anything from this author, but I enjoyed it enough to look into other books she has published. Snowy Serendipity has two stand-alone romantic novellas with “holiday” themes.
The first one I really loved, mainly because trains are my favorite way to travel and who wouldn’t want to spend two weeks on a train doing Christmas activities with “elves”?! Okay…I’m sure some people wouldn’t, but this girl would. Where do I sign up?! The characters were charming and the story believable. I was a little disappointed it was a novella because I could have read a full length novel with these characters and the Christmas Express.
The second story I do not consider Christmas or even winter themed. It does take place on an organic Christmas tree farm, but that’s where the Christmas connection ends. It takes place in spring time. I also wasn’t as invested in the characters as I was with the first novella. Overall it’s a good book and I recommend it if you love happy endings and romances without sex.

Thank you to NetGalley, Thomas Nelson and Zondervan Audio for the chance to listen and review this audiobook. All thoughts are my own. 😁

This audiobook is a tragedy of two tales. Sadly, only one of them shines bright enough to light up a Christmas tree.

🎄 Plot: "Dashing Through the Snow"
Cute, well-paced, with enough sparkle in the setting and the characters to make me wish it had been a little longer. The romance built nicely, the side characters had promise, and the holiday vibes were on point.

😖 Plot: "Pining for You"
It felt like it was written by someone who got lost on the way to the point. No holiday vibes, a cringy FMC, awkward conversations, and enough messy moments to make me want to DNF.

🎧 Narration:
Both narrators did their best with the material they were given.
I am partial to the first part of the audiobook because that story was worth it.
I feel the second narrator was not given proper due because the story was just so amateur and not well done. And no matter how good her narration was or her male voice was, she couldn't save the story nor bring any much needed "snowy" and Christmasy vibes to the story.
Production: Serviceable, but it didn’t add much sparkle or warmth to the listening experience.

Thank you Netgalley and Thomas Nelson and Zondervan Audio for the ALC.

I throughly enjoyed this book omg. This was a book with two novellas - Dashing through the snow & Pining for you. These both were short, cozy cute holiday reads. I personally didn’t really like the second one.. I’m not sure if it was because I didn’t like the characters or the story line but “pining for you” wasn’t for me. BUT “dashing through the snow” I LOVEDDD!! I didn’t want this one to end. It was giving very much .. the polar express & the FMC Willow was going through a break up. I can’t think of a single bad thing to say about this novella except for the fact that I wish it was longer!!
Thank you to Netgalley for providing me with this ARC in exchange for my honest review!

I enjoyed the two Christmas novellas that made up the Snowy Serendipity collection. While Dashing Through the Snow took place on a Christmas Express train which sounded like a wonderland on wheels, Pining for You took place on a Christmas tree farm. The first story was shorter than the second but both were light hearted stories about new beginnings and second chances. The narration by both Talon David and Kayla Jackson was lively and pleasant to listen.

My thanks to NetGalley, the publishers Thomas Nelson and Zondervon Audio and the author Melissa Ferguson for the ALC. This review is voluntary and all opinions are my own.

These were my first Melissa Ferguson stories, and I am not mad to have experienced them.

Dashing Through the Snow was everything you want in a holiday romance.
A holiday themed romantic hotel on a train?
Sounds adorable.
Add in heartbreak, cuties on the train, a sweet old man who likes chess, some hilarity and a lot of fabulous writing and we have a winner! It really had all the feels you could want🥰

Pining for You was good, but not as good as the first story. Nothing overtly wrong with it, just struggled as an encore. Still a cute small town romance, I would just suggest reading it first instead🤷‍♀️
The narration for these was absolutely fantastic and I will definitely be looking for more from Talon David and Kayla Jackson, hopefully in cahoots with Melissa Ferguson.
Much love to NetGalley & Thomas Nelson and Zondervan Audio for my ALC.

This is a cute little collection of stories. There are three different romances and all of them are cute, albeit a little cheesy. This one felt a little too much like some Hallmark Christmas movies, which are not my favorite. It feels like Christmas gets commercialized even in the book world where everyone is writing them but they aren’t stories that sweep me off my feet, I guess. I’m a harsh critic of Christmas books but if you like Hallmark movies you’ll like this one.

I thought what better way to get into the season than to start off with some cute novellas. These are super quick and very light and fluffy if you are just looking for a feelgood read, go ahead and pick these up. I really enjoyed the first novella about the Christmas train. The whole premise and story was just what I needed to get me into the spirit. The second story was a little off for me. Theo was, I don't want to say ignorant, but his whole story before he went back to the farm felt very weird and forced. It had me cringing a bit, but the author still kept it light so I decided to keep going. I liked that he finally went after what he wanted in the end, but goodness did it take a lot to get there. 3.5 stars as a whole, 4 for the first story and 3 for the second.
It was kind of confusing to have the same narrator for both of the male and female parts because I got confused at times as to whose POV we were on.

Not only do you get to read a sweet romance story and be completely entertained, you get two for the price of one!!! This is my kind of reading experience! I love a bargain, but a bargain on a great audiobook or book is even better! Add in that Christmas is the theme of one book and a tree farm the setting of the other and you have me swooning with delight. My Hallmark movie loving heart is already thumping with joy, but now let me tell you about the stories so you will understand the fun to be had! In the first book, a Christmas themed train ride that takes place in the weeks leading up to Christmas finds our delightful main character nursing a almost, but not quite broken heart from a breakup that was meant to be. I say meant to be as we all know that she is going to find love on the train right!?! Lots of entertaining twists make this lighthearted and sweet story and absolute delight to listen to. The narration is wonderful as it helps aid in bringing the story and emotions to life. In the second book, we have a second chances theme between old friends turned lovers turned spurned love with a distance of 14 years separating them from their breakup. The problem is neither of them got over the other, but can they overcome the pride and miscommunications as well as secrets that are still holding them apart!?! Never fear, a happily ever after is near, but you'll have to listen to find out if it all works out. The narration in the second story was even better than the first in my opinion, although it was a close call. I love how an audiobook can bring the reading experience even more fully to life. This was my first experience reading this author, but it won't be my last! I can't wait to read or listen to more from her!

Two cozy Christmas novellas from Melissa was just what I needed to listen to while cleaning my house over the weekend. They're short and sweet and full of holiday whimsy.
There are two different narrators which helped me keep the stories separate. I liked them equally and would recommend for anyone needing a quick dose of cheer.

A charming, feel-good, kissing only collection of two holiday novellas. I definitely enjoyed the first story best that takes place on a train and has Christmas song chapter titles. The second story wasn't as memorable for me. While the cover was absolutely adorable, as a whole this wasn't a standout for me. Just okay on audio too. If you're a die-hard fan of the author definitely check it out but otherwise this one is passable.

Thank you NetGalley and Melissa Ferguson for the ARC of Snowy Serendipity (audio).

The first thing I have to get off my chest here is....

Why wasn't this entire book just about the first story????? This was a STRONG 4 star read for me in the first half, with the literal ONLY thing keeping it from being 5 stars was that I wanted it to be longer to get more of the love story and watch the two main characters fall in love. Instead, we got this truly devastating second story that was a 2 star at best.

The first story was a festive, polar-express vibe with a love story sprinkled in and a woman on her journey to realizing she deserves better for herself. It gave alllll the best Christmas vibes and was just overall a fun happily ever after with tons of likable characters and a great story that left you wanting more.

The second story was absolutely the opposite. Not only did it not even really feel like Christmas at all, none of the characters were likable at all, and the main male character was actually a super horrible dude who messed up the first time he had a chance with our main female character, and once seeing he had an opportunity to MAYBE get her back, ended his current relationship to shoot his shot????? There was also all this unnecessary detail about the MFCs family that didn't contribute to the story at all, and was just overall not a good story and I didn't have a single moment where I was rooting for the main characters.

Overall,
First story: 4 stars (so cute - wanted more)
Second story: 2 stars (being generous - ruined the book for me personally)

I would recommend people to read the first story and skip the second.

What a joyful treat this 2 novella collection was! I really enjoyed Famous for a Living earlier this year, so when I saw Ferguson had this available for Christmas reading season, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it. I’m going to do a mini review for each novella below.

Dashing Through the Snow: I ADORED this cozy train setting! A two week holiday getaway on the Christmas Express sounds beyond ideal! Unfortunately Willow must embark on this romantic getaway alone after her boyfriend breaks up with her, but in a serendipitous turn of events, the man of her dreams happens to own and conduct the train! I had a bit of a hard time connecting with this audiobook narrator but that didn’t deter me from loving Willow and Oliver’s sweet holiday romance! (4 stars)

Pining for You: This was everything I needed in a holiday romance novella! I really fell for the small town, Christmas tree farm setting. Skye and Theo are childhood friends turned lovers with a fall out that turns into 14 years of not speaking, so when they get their second chance romance, I was positively swooning! I also really enjoyed this narrator in particular! I just adored everything about this heartwarming story and highly recommend! (4 stars)

Thank you so much to Netgalley and Thomas Nelson publishing for this #gifted audiobook!

The snow is falling softly; the kids are snug in their beds; there are dishes to wash and laundry to fold. Who wouldn’t enjoy a fun sweet Christmas romance to listen to as you deck the halls…or just clean them?
If you’re someone who enjoys those lighthearted and serendipitous (albeit predictable) holiday movies, these two short stories will be right up your alley! Leave reality behind for a bit and climb aboard the sleigh destined for charm, a bit of wit, and happy endings.

Story 1 Dashing Through the Snow
Definitely the WAY more Christmassy of the two, this story features a jilted lead character, a supportive best friend, an elderly “Santa-like” character, and a family-business-running male lead. Cocoa, cookies, and Christmas activities abound as the two quickly fall in love.

Story 2 Pining for You
Think less Christmassy and more mountainside forest-y, this story features a second-chance long-lost love story between two people who have the chance to try again - if they can communicate truthfully to make it happen.

Clean (no language or sex).
No faith elements.

I received a complimentary audiobook in exchange for an honest review. Opinions expressed are completely my own.

Bestselling author Melissa Ferguson offers up the gift of cozy joy and the grace of second chances in two sweet novellas for the holiday season.

𝘿𝙖𝙨𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙏𝙝𝙧𝙤𝙪𝙜𝙝 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙎𝙣𝙤𝙬 (also in 𝙊𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙒𝙖𝙮 𝙩𝙤 𝘾𝙝𝙧𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙢𝙖𝙨)

Dashing through the snow will give you cheesy Hallmark Polar Express vibes. Which I personally love, however, this one was just a tad off for me. It was hard to wrap my head around a woman falling in love with an elf who had very eccentric hobbies, cringe.

𝙋𝙞𝙣𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙔𝙤𝙪 (also in 𝙏𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙏𝙞𝙢𝙚 𝘼𝙧𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙙)

As another reviewer stated, Pining for You is a complete 180 from the first story in this set. While taking place on a Christmas tree farm, it doesn’t have anything to do with Christmas. This story has heavy topics: gambling addiction, poverty, and cheating. I wouldn’t recommend this as a cheery Christmas read.

These two stories might work separately, but they didn’t work for me together.

Two stand-alone novella collection

It’s hard to know how exactly to review and rate this uneven collection. It’s difficult to comprehend that the two novellas are by the same author. The first story, Dashing Through the Snow, is a delightfully festive tale, filled with holiday cheer, likable and funny characters, and a touch of (clean) romance. It was the perfect thing to listen to on an otherwise difficult day. The second story is another matter entirely. Pining for you features two angsty characters that give us no reason to like or root for them, taking the romance right out of their story. Didn’t really get any major holiday vibes from it either. I think next time I’ll just read through the first story twice.

I received an ARC of the eAudiobook from NetGalley and Thomas Nelson & Zondervan Audio for an honest review.

This audiobook includes two novellas by Melissa Ferguson: Dashing Through the Snow & Pining for You.

I’ll give a little synopsis of each and my review but no ✨spoilers✨ because that’s no fun!

🎄Dashing Through the Snow🎄
Synopsis: After being dumped by her longtime boyfriend right before their romantic getaway on The Christmas Express, Willow boards alone in a very cheery/festive getup, determined to enjoy herself after her best friend’s pep talk. Before boarding she meets a man dressed just as festive as she who she thinks may be perfect for her! It seems like her trip might just be turning around… until she learns who he really is. Will Willow have the trip she’s always dreamed of on The Christmas Express? And possibly even fall in love with the RIGHT guy this time?

💚Romantic gestures 💚Christmas cheer 💚New friends 💚Finding yourself 💚HEA

My thoughts: This is a fun & festive novella! Willow is presented as a caring and kind MC but is also as her best friend points out: a people pleaser. She wants everyone to be comfortable and happy but often that means she’s not doing what’s best for her. Like not getting the pet she wants because her boyfriend is *allergic.* Taking a solo trip on The Christmas Express that was originally supposed to be a romantic getaway is exactly what she needs after being dumped by her loser/selfish ex-boyfriend. Aboard The Christmas Express, Willow meets people who appreciate and deserve her genuine kindness. There’s even a Santa lookalike on board! The cast of lovable characters and the funny mishaps with the man who is certainly NOT Mr. Right along the way make this a quick and enjoyable book to listen to. I loved the characters and Christmas spirit, plus the names Oliver and Willow are so cute! ⭐️⭐️⭐️.5/5

❄️Pining for You❄️
Synopsis: After living in Seattle for 14 years, Skye has moved back to her childhood home to help with her parents’ finances, but after 3 months her father has a bad injury and she finds herself face to face with her childhood friend, Theo, who she hasn’t seen in years. Theo is surprised to find Skye answering the door when he arrives at her parents’ house after a phone call from Mrs. Fuller about her husband’s injury. Mrs. Fuller claims she called Theo since he’s the owner of the Christmas tree farm and their employer, but it seems she might have ulterior motives in getting Theo and Skye back in the same room after so many years. Will Theo be able to manage the farm and win back the woman he loves?

💚Childhood best friends 💚Second chance love 💚Forced proximity 💚Opposites 💚HEA

My thoughts: Ahhh okay I love a childhood besties/second chance love story! The main characters already know each other’s past and seeing how they experience the differences between their old selves and who they are now is the best. Theo knows Skye is the one but Skye is reluctant to let him in again choosing to hold onto her anger and take pleasure in messing with him. I’m a big fan of forced proximity and trips down memory lane🤗 So if you like friends to (somewhat?) enemies to lovers and opposites attract, this is a cute quick story! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

Sometimes a narrator’s voice just doesn’t fit but I’m happy to report that they did a great job on this one! Both stories were great but I really loved the second novella Pining for You🤍 I know it’s a bit early for Christmas books but really, is there ever a bad time to read/listen to a holiday romance? Check this one out when it releases tomorrow!!

Overall rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

This book consists of two, unrelated novellas. I love holiday novellas and I did enjoy an other book by Melissa Ferguson, “Famous For a Living”. I thought this one would be perfect for the holiday season. Sadly, I only connected to the first of the two.

🚂𝗗𝗮𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗻𝗼𝘄: ✰✰✰✰

Willow gets dumped by her boyfriend right before they are to take a romantic, Christmas getaway on a polar-express like train. Despite her broken heart, she decides to take the trip alone.

The vibes of this one sold it for me. If you like The Polar Express, I believe you might love this one! This one exuded all the Christmas vibes and left me with a warm, content heart.

The characters were cute and quirky. The one thing that did confuse me is that Ferguson decided to kind of throw in a little love triangle aspect. Personally, I don’t think this novella was lengthy enough to develop both love interests well. That aside, this novella gave me all the good vibes and told a cute story. I would love to see this one as a full length novel.

🎄𝗣𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗙𝗼𝗿 𝗬𝗼𝘂: ✰✰

Theo is a top-notch rich guy who decides to go back to his roots and help his family with their Christmas Tree farm. Skye’s dad works for the farm and moved back to the farmlands to help out her family. The issue is that Theo and Skye were once an item. Will they heal their romantic wounds from the past?

If I didn’t already know this was a holiday novella, I would have never known. This one was not “in your face Christmas” like the first. I didn’t get those Christmas vibes at all.

Skye and Theo did not have much of a romantic connection. I feel like their chemistry died a long time ago. I also don’t enjoy books in which the MMC is in a relationship prior to reuniting/uniting with the FMC. Theo had a whole girlfriend! This boarders too close to cheating (with feelings only since these books are closed door) for me. Having feelings for someone else while in a relationship is still cheating imo. This left me with a sour feeling in my stomach.

I didn’t know much about this audiobook before I started listening to it, so I was pleasantly surprised to find that it included two short Christmas stories. I found both stories a bit lackluster, and overall, rather meh. I was hoping for a bit more because I’ve really been enjoying Melissa Ferguson’s books lately, but I guess it’s difficult to make any sort of incredible story with so few pages to work with.

I feel like the narrator did a decent job with the story she was given. She had a very pleasant voice and was easy to listen to.

Book 1:
🚂 “𝑫𝒂𝒔𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑻𝒉𝒓𝒐𝒖𝒈𝒉 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑺𝒏𝒐𝒘” 🚂

Thoughts: I struggled to connect with the characters, and honestly, I felt a bit lost through most of the story. There were some cute moments, however, they weren’t amazing enough to overshadow the less fun moments, in my opinion. I failed to enjoy the plot of the story—which seemed to be all about Willow rebounding after her long-time boyfriend dumped her—but I did appreciate that she was able to find a semblance of healing. I will say, the Christmas vibes were certainly on point with The Christmas Express and its staff.

Book 2:
🌲 “𝑷𝒊𝒏𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒀𝒐𝒖”🌲

Thoughts: I was not a fan of Theo—not even a little bit. He was just so unlikable, in my opinion, and I’m not really sure how readers are supposed to like his character. The romance wasn’t great and left me wanting. This story did not entertain me at all, and I found myself super disappointed with it. The Christmas vibes were pretty much nonexistent—just a Christmas tree farm.

I was lucky enough to get a Netgalley ARC for this. So thank you to the publisher!

Snowy Serendipity by Melissa Ferguson is two stories in one book.

I really loved the first story, after a bit of an over the top start. The Christmas Express is one train I'd love to ride! The idea was fresh and fun, and the characters were likeable. I enjoyed the slight backdrop of caring for elderly people or those with illness, but not as a burden, but as a calling. So 5 stars for this cute and christmassy story that definitely made me feel all warm and cosy.

The second story didn't work nearly as well with me. I found both main characters slightly annoying, and especially hated how there's a "you told me not to contact you" with a "you should have known I lied! You should have fought for us" kind of thing, which I just can't stand. If you straight out tell someone to leave them alone and block them, it's simply the respectful thing to do to actually let them go. Anything else would be more stalker style. There's also some family issue mystery, the resolution of which I also didn't like. I did enjoy the setting and some of the moments, so 3 stars for this story.

Overall I'll go with the average 4 for both together.

in the first story Dashing Through The Snow after her boyfriend Jonas just broke up with her her friend Elodie talked her into going on her Christmas train vacation by herself something she decides to do before the trip is over she will have two men vying for her attention The first is Ian and he takes being an elf on board the Christmas train very serious and then there’s Oliver who’s dad Clarence owns the train and now Olly is taking over and loving it before it’s over Willow will have a new love in her life and it’s not just a man. In the second book which is called Pining For You we meet Theo who’s new girlfriend looks as if she may just have mental health issues. So when he gets a call from the Christmas tree farm that his parents own quickly takes it because the man who runs it is the father of his ex and one true love sky. Sky however seems to be holding on to the past and assuming something that may not be true can Theo get her to see the truth before he loses her again forever? The second book was twice as long as the first in both or sweet romances but I must admit the first one was my favorite I laughed out loud more than once while reading these sweet romcoms if you love Christmas and Christmas romances then you should definitely get the spot I also thought the narrator did a great job with her comedic timing and her narration as a whole. I want to thank the publisher and NetGalley for my free audio arc copy please forgive any mistakes as I am blind and dictate my review.

What a cutesy winter read! (Im a little late though).
This consists of 2 wintery romances. Let me review them separately.

The first is so good it literally feels like magic. I loved this story.it was so cute and cozy, i loved the characters, and i actually enjoyed that they were still a bit mysterious. Absolutely loved it 5 stars

The second is also pretty cute, a romance on a christmas tree farm, and i like the characters for sure. They were childhood friends then childhood lovers then broke up and now theyre back again. My only doubt? Their reason for breakup (TW: cheating). Pretty good, but wouldve been better with another reason for their previous breakup, 3 stars

And that combines into a 4 star read. Both are enjoyable, and i def recommend, especially as a cutesy palette cleanser near christmas.

the narrator did a really good job, i was fully immersed! she has a really nice voice, and i kind of forgot that i was listening to an audiobook.

Thank you to netgalley and the author for sending me the book in exchange for an honest review

Dashing Through the Snow
Story Rating: ⭐️⭐️
I have read a handful of Mellissa Ferguson books, and I find they are hit or miss for me. Some I enjoy and others low star ratings for me. The first story of this Christmas set was a miss for me. I couldn't connect with Willow. She felt desperate for a relationship and was not very likable. It was too insta-love for me.

Pining For You
Story Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This story was much better. I'm a sucker for second chance romance ♥️ I also loved the setting of this story. Something about a tree farm just puts you in the Christmas spirit. Although this was a short story, it was a cute one!

Narration: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The narrator did a fantastic job and was very enjoyable. I felt she did a great job at bringing the stories and characters to life.

Thank you, NetGalley, and Thomas Nelson for the opportunity to listen and review this advanced copy.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Snowy Serendipity contains two cozy novellas, perfect for the holiday season! If you are a fan of Melissa Ferguson, or love happily-ever-afters, you will want to check out Snowy Serendipity!

Dashing Through The Snow
After being dumped by her her longtime boyfriend, who was expected to propose at any moment, Willow decides to continue on with her plans and boards The Christmas Express, a two week train ride. When Willow meets a man before boarding the train, who shares her love for festive holiday attire, she thinks he is going to be perfect of her. What unfolds is a hilarious ride with some amazing characters that help heal Willow’s heart. I felt like the characters in this novella were so likable and it was just a super sweet, feel-good story!

Pining For You
Skye Fuller moves back home to her childhood home to assist her parents, who are in some financial trouble. Not long after she moves in, her father is injured, and Skye finds herself face-to-face with her childhood friend, Theo, the owner of the Christmas Tree farm where her father works. With Mr. Fuller injured, Theo must drop everything to play farmer on the tree farm. Will Theo be able to win the heart of his childhood best friend while taking care of the Christmas Tree farm? This is a great opposites attract, forced proximity novella!

I felt like the narrators were great for these novellas and really enjoyed listening to them as the stories unfolded!

Thank you, Melissa Ferguson, Thomas Nelson, and NetGalley for providing me with a #gifted copy of Snowy Serendipity.

Thank you NetGalley, Thomas Nelson and Zondervan Audio for providing access to the audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

Two fun and unexpected stories that were a joy to go through, but whose romances did not convince me fully as the endgame for all of them. I loved the setting of the first tale, but to me, the second story seemed to shine brighter. Might be because of the peculiarity of both characters, I found Theo especially to be delightful, or the (for once) realistic misunderstanding and prideful miscommunication. Normally I'm not the biggest fan of those tropes, but here they felt right. And I enjoyed the twist that made everything clear.

2.5 Stars. Normally I round up but…well…

Story One: Terrible. Ferguson’s great writing I’ve come to love kind of just got up and left. The imagery was…nice and Clarence was cool. That’s about all.

Story Two: I really liked the characters, especially Theo who is just wonderfully unique and cute (shoutout to Skye’s mom as well for being the most momish character ever). However, I don’t think I’ve ever been as confused reading a contemporary piece as this one, so, you know, there’s that. It did give me some ideas to write about myself but the story was…interesting.

The two stories are so drastically different I think it’s wild that they’re squished together.
