She’s the only human on campus. Four paranormal guys all want a taste. But now a killer might beat them to it.
When Cecilia moves to New Nebraska, she must brush shoulders with the dangerous paranormals forcibly relocated there. Taking a job at the college she attends to support her ailing mother, she figures keeping her head down will be easy. Instead, her unusual ordinariness turns heads all around town.
Her professor, Aaron, hides both a shy sweetheart and a colossal grizzly beneath his hulking exterior. Despite their student – teacher relationship, neither he nor his territorial beast can stay away or let her go.
Jaxon carries the weight of his wolf pack on his large, footballer shoulders. Pressure from his father to step up as alpha makes each day a chore, until delicate, kind Cecilia brings light into his life.
Xander’s obsession with the new human’s blood soon transforms into a yearning to cherish and protect her that shatters his playboy instincts. But how can this hotshot vampire convince her his feelings are real for the first time in his very long life?
Osric doesn’t give a f*ck about the ordinary human girl or the infatuation she’s stirred within his best friend, Aaron. As a Fae prince, he has far more important things to worry about, like the human-hunting serial killer stirring up old but unresolved tensions between humans and paranormals. But what happens when he starts to see a special spark in Cecilia and comes to dread the killer will spot it, too?
New Nebraska Lessons is a slow burn, why choose romance. Multi POVs, multiple love interests, and smoldering with detailed, spicy scenes.
This book is the first of the New Nebraska series, standalone romances set in the same world.
Cara B. King is a RH romance author who lives in sunny California. She can never say no to dark chocolate, rom coms, or meandering walks in nature with her awesome husband. When not at the computer slaving over her next story, she loves traveling to new places and just hanging out with friends and family. Her writing buddy and perpetual cheerleader is her adorable little bundle of fur, Alvin, and she loves cuddling up with her favorite pooch on the couch after a long day’s writing.
Okay, so I had to sit for a few days to settle myself. Holy moly! This book is pretty different. And in a very very good way! Full disclosure - this is RH romance!!!
So yes, there are shifters, vampires, and hybrids. And then there is our FMC, Cecilia. She comes to a new town with her mother for a new beginning. It was supposed to be a pit stop for a few years but turned into something more when she began her job and schooling at New Nebraska.
Now for the characters... I totally dig Osric. He is British and is a Fae Prince, so obviously I like him the best. Plus his mysterious persona was intriguing. Aron, Xander, and Jax were awesome as well.
This story is full of paranormal beings and the pacing is fantastic. It is steamy in the right amount. Cara's writing style is smooth, and I glided through the pages while biting my nails. It is also a thrilling mystery and Jack 2 from the story will keep you guessing...
I am now impatiently waiting for the second book from this series.
I really wanted to love this but it’s missing any depth or characterization. There’s an insta connection and nothing special with the FMC - she unknowingly heightens powers. There’s just no real reason to like her, there’s no reason to dislike her. I agree with the other two star comment. There’s no world building. This is a new reimagined world and there’s nothing to give the story meat. It got really repetitive calling the villain Jack 2. It was “Jack 2 this, Jack 2 that” the author ended up genderizing him and still kept referring to him as Jack 2.
I felt like this drew a lot of similarities from ruthless boys of the zodiac but with no depth or world building.
Quite honestly this book felt not fleshed out. The fmc took on a job as a school janitor and it sounds like she’s really taking care of her mom, like is a sole caregiver and her mom runs off with some random dude. And the fmc is upset bc she literally can’t find her mom and her mom couldn’t have given her any time of day notice? Really? It doesn’t make sense that her mom did a complete 180 personality change. Idk. This book needs a ton of work.

Eek! This book was amazing! I love why choose and add paranormal to it, yesss.
The plot was amazing! I love the suspense and action in it. I didn’t know where it was going to go. I love Cecilia, she’s so sweet and an amazing FMC. The guys. Omg I loved each. All are swoon worthy and Xander ya he’s a fav! Along with Aaron.
I could have read more of this book it was so good, I hope for more! Maybe Vesta in the future? Loved her.
Will read more from this author.
"Anytime. Forever”
If you want a Why Choose Paranormal book with lots of suspense & hot spice, pick up this book! 🤍🌼🐻
Is it possible to be both sweet and spicy? Yes. Yes it is. This RH started off as a cozy cuddly warm paranormal romance and gradually picked up steam, ending one spicy read! I don’t read many RH books, but I was thrilled to get the chance to dive into this amazing world of New Nebraska! If you love action, shifters, sweet college settings, vampires, fae, mystery, and sultry scenes, this is the book for you. Thank you to the author for this gifted copy.
“Somehow, I already knew the reality: when it came to her, there would be thoughts piled upon thoughts, a hundred stories high, now and forever.”
Vampires? Check. Shifters? Check. Fae? Check. Murder Mystery? Check! Romance and Spice? Check!! Fans of both paranormal and why choose romances will not be disappointed by New Nebraska Lessons by Cara King. The plot is unique, has a decent amount of suspense, and is very entertaining. The characters were funny, sweet, relatable, and had such distinct personalities which made the book easy to read.
Cecilia is an extremely likable character. She is selfless, caring, loving, and very accepting of each of the guys. Aaron is my absolute favorite out of all of the love interests. He’s super sweet, sensitive, and gets easily flustered by Cecilia. There’s just something about him that makes me swoon. Osric is extremely mysterious, quiet, but very powerful. Jaxon is an absolute sweetheart. Xander is very much the ‘bad boy’ but soft for his girl type of person.
One of my favorite aspects of why choose romances is the relationship dynamics between each of the couples separately as well as in a group. The author did a wonderful job of exploring each of those dynamics, making the character’s relationships more interesting to read about.
New Nebraska Lessons has some intriguing plot twists that will have readers shocked and wanting more! Overall, the story was fun and I would definitely recommend reading it.
This is the first book I have read from Cara King, and let me tell you, it won't be the last.
This book was a slow burn, longing filled, why choose with all the alpha men you could ever want in your life.
Cecilia is the only human in a university filled with different kinds of paranormals, but it soon becomes clear to four men that she is far from a simple human!! Aaron an enormous bear shifter. Jax, a wolf shifter ,Xander a vampire, and Osric, a fae prince, all set their sights on Cici and are more than willing to put their differences aside and share.
This book is full of mystery and twists and turns to keep you hooked until the very last page and when the spice finally hits..... WOW 👌 its spicy!! These boys definitely know how to treat a lady.
If paranormal romance with swoon worthy leading men and a woman strong enough to handle them all with suspenseful mystery and the perfect spicy moments, this book is the one for you!!
This steamy “why choose” paranormal romance definitely kept my interest with its plot and character development. I was whisked away to this new world where readers are introduced to werewolves, sprites, and shape shifters (among others!) that live together and rarely interact with humans. When a human girl begins working at their school and attending classes, several students (and one teacher!) take special notice. Add in a few mysterious murders plus a multiple partner romance, and you’ve got a novel that’s hard to put down! Warning: it is quite sensual!!!
I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving this review.
This book made me laugh more than anything. The entire story you follow Cecelia and her unlikely Reverse Harem of hot men. Cecilia is the only human student in a college of paranormal breeds. This boo definitely had mystery and intrigue all the way through. Really loved how each relationship budded in a different way. Feel like this book has a little bit for everyone. This was a slowburn in my opinion. But it was delicious once it happened. Would give the spice about 🌶️🌶️🌶️.could not put the book down until it was finished. Would definitely recommend!!.

A human in a supernatural school full of vampires, Fae, and shifters… Say Less!!
This book is both sweet and spicy, and I ate this one up! I loved the interactions and chemistry between the love interests! Ceci is innocent, but not naive. I don’t know if I could pick a favorite male…Osric? Jax? Aaron? Or Xavier? The plot was interesting with religious cult undertones. I was intrigued and could not put the book down! I highly recommend this one!
Thank you to the author for giving me a digital arc in exchange for an honest review.
Ok. A bit too slow paced at some points and the end felt rushed (especially with Osric)... Will there be another book because things weren't done with the mysterious fae🧐???
This was a very sweet paranormal romance with a touch of spice and a little mystery to keep you interested. Slow burn, multiple “mates”, and teacher/student.
We defining with Cecilia who is a human (the only human) going to college in New Nebraska an all paranormal town/school. In order to go to school, she take a custodial job which gives her room and board for her and her sick mother. Once of campus, she starts getting attention from other students and a teacher. Aaron, her teacher and protective bear shifter who is equal parts menacing in bear form and adorable awkward in human form. Orsic who is the playboy cynical fae prince who because fascinated with her after seeing his bestie, Aaron, become a bumbling fool over her. Jaxon, the quarterback wolf who clocked her scent right away and became someone to depend on. And Xander, The vampire who had a very bad first impression but becomes enamored and does his best to fix his past mistakes. After she find her mother gone the same day that a new string of murders begins the haunt the campus, her guys do whatever they can to help her, find her mother, and keep her safe.
This is a stand-alone and is just a really sweet story with a bit of murder mystery. There are about 3 or 4 Spicy scenes but not anything too crazy. Definitely kept me interested throughout the entire book and I throughly enjoyed it. Plot is 5⭐️ and spice is 2🌶️.
This was a very nice and easy read! I loved the writing and how the whole story came together in the end. Our characters were all absolutely adorable. All love interests were pure cinnamon rolls…with a dirty side *wink wink*. Our FMC, Ceci, was also very cute. She was almost too pure! She was strong willed and also extremely caring of her mates. I think her little ability was a nice change to the normal RH paranormal reads I read. Usually out main characters are really overpowered, but she I think had the right amount of special in her. Their relationship was really fun to read about. They really seemed like a wonderful group of people, who would do anything to protect the ones they love. The plot was fun! I love myself a little mystery. It definitely held my interest. I also think the universe in this book was fun to read about. The idea of having a place where all the paranormals live together. Would like to see more from this world in the future. I think this author did a great job writing a RH while also keeping focus on the plot itself! Definitely reading more from her in the future!
Ideally everything you need is there; the plot, the characters, the dynamics, etc. However, it didn't connect well? I enjoy the plot and what this aims to be, but the delivery seems lacking, if that makes sense. I love the guys, but the dialogue is too juvenile for who these men are. The FMC herself was.. nothing. No thoughts in that pretty head really. The vibe I get from her is along the lines of "Hey, I just met you and this is crazy, but here's my dick, so sit on me maybe?" "OKAY" I get the shifters being ready to go, but as a human, I don't know, I'd expect SOME kind of hesitation. Only person she was cautious of was the vamp (kind of) and darling Vesta. (who I will say is a character I could possibly die for.) Don't get me started on that scenario with her mother. That entire situation is unbelievable, but then again mother like daughter, I guess. We just don't question anything, follow, and then shag whoever makes you feel warm inside apparently. It takes 'when you know, you know' to a whole new level. I'm all for fated mates and insta-love, but how things played out felt wrong and out of place. I'm assuming there will be more in the next book concerning the
All in all I do like this and appreciate it for what it is. It just... It needs help
New Nebraska Lessons was a spicy, slow burn, why choose/reverse harem, paranormal romance. I loved this book!! It was unexpected and definitely not cookie cutter. Cecilia is a human who works at the college she attends. She had not 1, but 4 hot men that want her. Aaron, the professor and hunky grizzly shifter, Jaxon, the hunky wolf shifter, Xander, the hunky vampire, who thirsts for more than her blood and, Osric, a hunky, grumpy Fae prince who tries to resist at first. Throw in a serial killer, and you have quite the story. The build-up is sweet and slow but then gets hot 🔥 hot 🔥 hot 🔥. There are a lot of sexy scenes, and we get a very happy ending after the drama. All the boys are hot, but I'm team Aaron! I'm definitely looking forward to more books in this series.

Who hasn't fantasized about the paranormal or the fae before? If you haven't, you certainly will now! New Nebraska Lessons by Cara King has it all. There's a bear shifter, wolf shifter, a vampire, and a fae prince all vying for and equally sharing the love of a human girl.
Besides the sexy bits, this is a great story about love, kindness, and finding your own. Sometimes life expects certain obligations from us, and New Nebraska Lessons teaches us that what's best is just doing what works for us and not worrying about how others may view it.
If you enjoy paranormal, spicy, romantic reads then I suggest you pick up this book, which is available on November 9, 2023.
This is book one of the New Nebraska series and the main character is Cecilia, who is human and moved to the New Lincoln University campus to work as a janitor, whilst having the chance to study for free. She moved there to manage to look after her mother, whose health has been declining. Normally her mother would have had them moving around the country frequently, but still has not told Cecilia why they had to do so. New Nebraska is a part of the USA where all paranormals had to move to after their presence was made public and various issues made it compulsory through the Nebraska Agreement, although Fae have some leeway with a special status allowing them freer movement. Cecilia finds herself in her first class, pretty much the only human, amongst shifters, vampires, elementals and more! She knows a bit about paranormals and their different kinds, but is still somewhat wary walking about campus and tries to avoid any confrontation. In her first class she sits herself away in a corner, to avoid the groups of shifters, vampires and elementals, but soon finds the professor, Mr Aaron Belanger, a large bear shifter, staring at her all the time and getting quite flustered as he tries to teach! Another of the students, Osric, a Prince of the Fae, has noticed how Aaron was acting and saw his glances at Cecilia and wonders why his roommate is getting so flustered with a human girl. Osric is being constantly harassed on his phone by his mother, trying to force him to return to England to marry a Fae woman his mother has chosen as his duty, and which he is totally against doing! When he tries to read Cecilia, he finds he gets nothing from her at all, which in itself is unusual.
Cecilia also draws the attention of vampire Xander and Beta wolf shifter Jaxon Hemming, who as the leaders of their pack and coven on campus, usually try to keep the peace between their kinds. Cecilia has problems in her self defence class taught by Xander, as one of his fellow wolf shifters, Mandy, who wanted to be his Luna, paired up with her and then knocked her out, after pretending to be nice to her just because Jaxon noticed her! Xander follows her as she goes back to the small apartment she gets with her janitorial job, and tries to attack her in an alleyway, obsessed with her scent and wanting to glamour her to come back with him and let him drink from her. Surprisingly, he finds she easily ignores his glamour and refuses to go with him! Not the best way to get a woman, but one that has always worked for him and he knows little of anything else. Cecilia does at least manage to make one friend, Vesta, a flame child elemental, who is easy to talk to and helps her out. When her mother suddenly disappears from the one bed flat without even leaving a note, Cecilia is beside herself, especially after the recent horrific murder of a female on campus. Her harem of men, Aaron, Jaxon, Osric and Xander, all vow to help find her mother, and al use their various contacts to help. They all protect her as well, as another young female is found dead, but she is picked off at a party without anyone noticing. Only Aaron realised something was wrong when he got back downstairs and she wasn’t with Vesta, the scent of whoever killed the other females lingering with Cecilia’s. It forces Aaron to shift into his bear form, and one much bigger and stronger than before due to Cecilia’s effect on all her men, something he has been reluctant to do for years after a bad incident the last time he shifted! Osric notices the terror and destruction his bear leaves and runs after him, as do Vesta and her boyfriend.
Somehow the killer is a lot stronger and more powerful than they should be and even Aaron’s bear running into him, only stops him for a moment. By the time Aaron manages to check on Cecelia, the killer is gone, but he hasn’t forgotten about her and will be back for her as he truants them and the authorities! They all need to work much harder to find this killer and put a stop to him before he can make good on his promise. Thankfully, Cecilia’s mother Kathy returns, with an elderly gentleman she is now involved with and who has helped her to finally reveal her secrets to Cecilia, which explain a few of the odd findings her men have noticed, as well as why she managed to attract them all in the first place. It doesn’t help with the killer they have killing humans on campus and in town, and it will take an act of wilful endangerment to place Cecilia in danger yet again, even with a couple of bodyguards, as her men have a slight case of miscommunication about who was supposed to be with her. A far more powerful being has given the killer his extra strength and dark powers, allowing him to get close to killing Cecilia before her men swoop in and rescue her thankfully. There is more to come as zealots from the Temple of the Pure Breed make plans to kill more humans, blaming them for weakening paranormal kind, as well as demonstrating and hating any hybrid paranormals in an aggressive manner. I can’t wait to see what will happen next and where the few tidbits about the temple and a rich businessman might lead, as well as Cecilia’s mother and her new partner! Lots of steamy scenes as well as some sweet first evers, making a nice mixture of innocence and experience among the harem members. An unusual magical ability that must be hidden from others and helps her harem in unexpected ways, will hopefully be expanded upon. I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.
The story just starts without any world building and there is nothing deep about the characters. The writing is more telling than showing which I hate.
I only read because I had a sense it would be a hot mess and a hot mess it was. I’m a bit bummed that the description of new lincoln did not sound much like the actual downtown because I’m currently at the real life ‘new Lincoln university’ . Character-wise I had so many issues. First off her mother is a selfish *sshole and when she showed up with the random man, after abandoning her daughter making Cici so so worried, woman has the nerve to warn her daughter about narcissistic people? Does the author know what narcissistic people do? Love bomb. I’m still expecting the absolute worse from this boyfriend. There’s never a discussion if the guys actually love her or the way she amps their powers? That would have been a great point to discuss. The thing about guns? Nebraska is a red state, I get this is new Nebraska, but the humans could also buy the guns to protect themselves against the paranormal. Why would a paranormal being with powers go and buy a gun? But also why include that? Xander pulls out this tiny knife while he has sharp teeth and we get this tidbit about guns in Nebraska. Why? Why would an ancient fae relic Leave Osric to go to this doofus? Zero sense. Jax- he’s gross. He was kinda a favorite and then the story went on. The way he slut shames Mandy after he talks about his past history sleeping with her and then how he talks about Cici just annoyed me. Also, Mandy is annoying but I don’t know that doing all that to kick her off the team and stuff was necessary. It also confuses me on the levels of hierarchy because how much pull does a guy, who doesn’t want to be beta, actually have with these people? Aaron is making me feel off because I have a thing about power dynamics and with everything professors deal with I don’t see how it’s fair to make another professor grade a random students work because you want to blur the lines of professionalism. Also she’s in school. When is she in class? There was talk about her having to go into work, so the author remembered that. But what happened with all the schoolwork she’s supposed to do ? Xander is mayonnaise. Xander is actually less flavorful than mayonnaise. Xander is just…there. The timing and way she’s saying ‘I love you’ to the guys? Weird. Don’t feel the chemistry. The dialogue… did anyone proofread this? Did anyone act these lines out with the author? Was it supposed to be this bad the whole time? Suspension of disbelief can only hold me so long and horrible dialogue will make me just land face first on the concrete. The stuff she says during the intimate scenes is also awful. Not just her saying like holy moly- I mean her apologizing for her saying the ‘silly sex stuff she says’ is getting worse and apologizing. Or, Aaron letting Xander know that it’s cute but just so you know- she says funny stuff in bed she doesn’t usually say. So, so cringy. I never wanted an intimate scene to be over so fast.. I can’t think of what else bothered me but this book needs to be put through the ringer, and the washer, and the vacuum, and the hose, and the dryer before I ever read this authors stuff again. She had a good world set up, it’s interesting and she made something modern but fun paranormal. But whoever helped her ‘proofread’ the work? Jail. Jail immediately.

This is a low-medium steam, fated mates story. In this book we meet our FMC who is a human (and stays a human). She’s attending college in a supernatural town and she is one of the very few humans present. On her first day of school she attracts the attention of a bear shifter (professor), a wolf shifter, a vampire, and a Fae prince. The males fall into immediate obsession with our poor, sweet, fragile FMC and they work together to protect her from a dangerous serial killer.
So the plot in this story was pretty shallow. There wasn’t a whole lot of plot besides the serial killer and even that felt pretty weak. The character development was decent. The world-building could have been better.
However, our FMC was the definition of a Mary-Sue. This girl had no flaws. She was never jealous, she was unfailingly sweet (even towards her bullies), and she radiates compassion. FMC (I can’t remember her name) was also the most vulnerable, fragile little flower in the garden. I kind of hate her and I wanted to punch her in the face.

New Nebraska Lessons is the first book in Cara King's New Nebraska series. It's a standalone with a student-professor romance, there's a cult, and lots of murder. This book was a wonderful surprise, lighter than I expected which is amazing if you consider the body count. I'm glad I stumbled across it.
The very human MFC Cecilia "Ceci" is a strange mix of innocence (but not naive) and common sense. She has a good head on her shoulders, confidence, and a caring heart. I loved that while at first, she was a little scared of the supernaturals she was willing to let go of preconceived notions and was open to figuring things out through experience. She was brave in a lot of ways.
This was a good group of guys although two of then could have left a better first impression. There's the footballs star who is the boy-next-door type, everybody likes him. The bad boy who is really a goofball and totally sweet. There's also an adorably awkward professor and an upitty prince who hides behind a mask. The guys are alike in some ways while being wildly different in others. They fit together like a puzzle, crazy but it works and they all love and support Ceci.
The story is set in the backdrop of a backdrop. The supernatural town of New Lincoln has a mostly supernatural population and NLU (New Lincoln University). The class, college parties, posh cafes, football games, and where a serial killer is stalking. Between that, the new relationships that the main characters have to figure out, and the mini mysteries that Ceci seems to be at the center of, this book was very entertaining.
New Nebraska Lessons was great, Cara did a good job, especially with this being her first book and all. The personal plot that centered on Ceci and her mom could have used some work but the serial killer plot was fantastic. I loved the characters, the mix of supernaturals and college life and the plot was engaging. Cara surprised withwith some of her choices but I did get some of the answers that I was looking for. I very much enjoyed Cara's writing, and I'm looking forward to seeing what she does with the rest of the New Nebraska series.
Kindle. Standalone. Two range higher. Weak world building, surface plot and awful cheesy dialogue. I was looking for an easy shorter pallet cleanser read and while it was a quick easy mindless read it just didn’t do it for me. Instant connection and obsessive men done in such a cheesy and childish way I wasn’t into it. Really attentive and softer/sweet men but boring. I did not vibe with how the men spoke even though it was caring it was just like what am I reading and cringy. Also the characters just seemed oblivious and ditsy at points. Barely any spice, nonexistent and very very vanilla. Storyline was done poorly and a lot was just out of left field with no depth and felt more along the lines of a thrown together surface grasping for storyline not in direction wise (it flowed enough and didn’t have random stuff thrown in) but more just incomplete overall, it was just missing something in the interest department. I think it majorly comes down to me not liking the writing style at all and the presentation of story. Along with again not liking how the men spoke it was just off. Even though for a standalone it wrapped decently enough with a HEA the story was beyond boring and beyond cringy.
I enjoyed this why choose novel. I especially enjoyed the multi POV so we could see everyone’s thoughts. There is a new human on campus and she is attracting all the alpha males and their beasts. Cecilia and her ailing mother move around a lot. Her mom is keeping secrets from Cecilia. She takes a job as a janitor at the college campus in exchange for a free education, free housing, free food and a small paycheck. She notices that she is starting to attract attention from all the hot alpha’s on campus. Cecilia is sweet, innocent kind and gentle. Aaron is a professor and a genial giant until his Grizzly makes an appearance. He has never shown any interest in anyone before but he sure Cecilia is his mate. Jax is a hot footballer who is a wolf shifter. He is protective, dominant and has a heart of gold. Like Aaron his wolf is drawn to Cecilia. Xander is a vampire. He is a seducer, tired of people only loving him because of his powers. Cecilia is not affected by him so she intrigues him and he vows to make her his. Osric a far prince is also drawn to Celilia but he tries to resist her. He has the weight of the Fae world on his shoulders. He vows to protect his best friends love interest. He is grumpy, unhappy and loyal to a fault. Cecilia is drawn to all of the hunks that have her in their site. They agree to share and form unlikely bonds amongst themselves also. Cecilia not only brings strength she brings kindness and peace to this new unlikely family. This is a great story. The author does an excellent job of building the characters throughout.

For some reason I expected the first book in a series when I started "New Nebraska Lessons", not realizing this was actually a reverse harem standalone. It's entirely my fault since there are clearly no indications that this book wouldn't be a standalone, but it might be one of the reasons why I ended this book feeling like some storylines were resolved a little too quickly for my taste. And while I don't believe the virgin trope needs to be smeared out over multiple books, I honestly wouldn't classify the relationship development in this standalone as slow-burn. There is plenty of spice, and for me they get there very quickly for people with so little experience.
That doesn't mean I didn't like the storyline of this book. It's quite interesting to see a mixed species harem, with the extremes of a playboy and a virgin professor and how a human girl fits perfectly with all four of them. The secrets her mom kept from her for years add a nice little extra to the story, and the serial unaliver who has set his eyes on Cecilia adds some suspense to a nice academy storyline. I also liked the fact that a notorious playboy has no clue how to woo the woman he really wants, and messes it up entirely. But all in all, I ended up slightly disappointed because I believe this story has all the elements to make a wonderful series if more depth is aded to the relationship building and plot.
I love a good why choose, and this book definitely delivered on that front. All of these characters were diverse and each brought something different to the table. There’s quite a bit of mystery to this story, as well so you get that touch of suspense and danger in addition to the romance. Cecilia is a new transfer student and the only human at a school for supernaturals. What she doesn’t know is that there’s more to who is she than she realizes, and that her mother has been keeping secrets from her. She meets Aaron, Osric, Jaxon and Xander pretty soon after she arrives. She can’t figure out why she feels pulled towards each of them, but she doesn’t want to fight it either. Aaron is the first to make a move and pretty soon Jaxon follows him. These two shifters are quick to stake their claims on their mate. Xander is the resident bad boy vampire of the bunch, that’s hiding a soft cinnamon roll center when it comes to Cecilia. He’s ruthless, but for her he’ll do anything. Osric is a Fae Prince and more reluctant to give into the pull because of family obligations. It quickly become apparent that the danger on campus is targeting Cecilia. And there’s much more to Cecilia than meets the eye. Can her men protect her and keep her safe from the danger that’s closing in? If you’re a fan of paranormal why choose romances I highly recommend giving this one a try!
This is a great read if you want to test the waters with a reverse harem. It's really sweet, the relationships aren't dark, we have a lot of different species (shifters, vampires, fae, humans), it's a great place to start for newbies!
I love me a reverse harem, and it was really fun for me to read one where everyone is different! Everyone is super sweet and adjusts to each other pretty quickly. They're all devoted to CeCe and want her to be safe. They're all pretty alpha when it comes to her wellbeing. Part of my rating is because it's pretty sweet and I like things to not be as sweet, but that's completely my preference. There are so many readers that prefer the really sweet and everything goes well in the relationships, and this book is great for that!
I honestly didn't know what to expect with what was going to happen in this book. It takes place at a paranormal university where CeCe seems to be the only human (or one of the few). She meets all of her guys in different circumstances and they try to navigate their relationships, since CeCe is pretty new to relationships. A serial killer starts to target female humans and half breeds and when they start to target CeCe, the guys go wild.

Tropes: Paranormal Reverse Harem Touch her and 💀 Virgin FMC and a MMC Academia Mystery
I started this book late last night and could NOT stop reading. It was about 7am before I knew I'd be in trouble if I didn't get SOME sleep, and forced myself to put it down. As soon as I got up again, I reached for my Kindle and finished it off! Considering this is the author's first RH book, she did a fantastic job on it.
This is one of the first paranormal books I've read where the human FMC actually remains a human (though she does have a "gift" that helps her mates). Cecilia takes on a janitorial position at a school that's all supernatural students - shifters, vampires, fae, and elementals - and as a perk, she can take classes for free. She's never been around the supernatural before, so she's a little uncomfortable and can't help but be worried about being eaten! She isn't there long before four men take a strong interest in her, particularly two shifters: a bear professor named Aaron and a wolf shifter named Jaxon. I love how sweet they are with her and how awkward poor Aaron is since he's never tried wooing a girl before.
New Nebraska Lessons is a mix of paranormal romance, humour, and mystery. It's a standalone and the perfect book to read if you need something light, a pallet cleanser, something to read in between a series, or just feel like a shifter romance!
I love how Cara B King created this world for paranormals and made it relatable: people having to work together to battle evil. Cecile is human and very intimidated by the shifters, vamps, and elementals she encounters while working and taking classes at college. She and her mother have been nomadic for as long as she can remember before coming to New Nebraska: the designated home for paranormals.
Cara’s RH developed slowly, but it’s steamy, lusty, and so sweetly caring. Aaron is a bear shifter, her professor, and a virgin who roommates with Osric who is a Fae prince. Jax is a wolf shifter, the quarterback, and a sexy but considerate man. Xander is a vamp, head of his coven, and used to his prey falling at his feet when he entrances them. Ceci becomes their focus as she works her magic on them.
The connections between Ceci and her men is beautifully written and emotionally engaging. Each character’s personality meshes with the others and their relationship grows stronger as they learn to trust one another. A psychopathic serial killer threatens Ceci and her men protect her vehemently. I loved how openly loving they were with each other! The bonus chapter is awesome!.
