The night before starting my new job was not when I wanted to meet my neighbor. Certainly not in the middle of the night, wearing next to nothing, as I bang on his door to tell him to quiet down. And when he answers the door, I almost swallow my tongue. He’s possibly the hottest guy I’ve ever seen. But when he opens his mouth, my Southern upbringing rears its ugly head, and I slam up those carefully constructed walls around my heart.
Luca calls me Pixie, and suggests I need to loosen up. When I finally decide to lower my walls with him however, he walks into my work office. As the social media manager for the Denver Wolves hockey team, I’d been warned about one specific hot player, both on and off the ice. Of course, he’d be that hot player. But I just can’t stay away … until I’m forced to.
Luca
I’m the black sheep of the Wolves. The one who has too much bad publicity. Everyone, including my family, thinks I’m a player. No one believes that I’m tired of the partying. The lifestyle. The games. But I don’t know how to change things, until she moves in next door.
Hannah makes me want to be a better man. But life on the ice has gotten murky, and my coach is clearly looking to get rid of me. I’ve never taken chances on anyone before, but something tells me Hannah is worth the risk.
Worth the Risk is a small town contemporary romance. It is book one of the Eternity Series, but can be read as a standalone. It features a neighbors, workplace, hockey romance and a guaranteed Happily Ever After. Worth the Risk features sexually explicit material, profanity, and some content that may be triggering. This book is intended for readers 18+.
I loved this book, i loved the characters and everything in it. Luca and Hannah are everything. He is a playboy hockey player and she is the new social media manager for the team. We have some tropes like small town, neighbors, found family, reformed playboy...
This was a fun and angst read and everyone should read it.
I.. this.. I’m speechless over how bad this book is. Like no words this book is terrible. The plot is plotless, yet the story moves lightning fast. The characters are either acting incredibly idiotic or shockingly smart. And the insta love— gag 🤢
In the span of 3 days Hannah and Luca are hopelessly in lust (sorry, love) and can’t stop thinking about each other, which is wild because on day 1, he was calling her a bitch and she was crying. The story moves so fast it’s ridiculous and don’t get me started on the nicknames, Hannah cannot have THREE nicknames, Luca is either calling her “Pix”, “Bella” — which is gross cuz his SISTERS name is Bella — or “Baby” sometimes he pulls a power move and uses ALL THREE in the same sentence, but yet he never says her real name. Like it’s HANNAH Jeez.
Also you CANNOT tell me that she climbed this man like a tree yet had no idea that he was a hockey player for the team she works for.. and the reason is because he goes by “Luke” in hockey but “Luca” to her?? Ridiculous. And also everyone hates Luca cuz they think he’s a man whore (reformed apparently) but it’s all based on rumors and tabloids and no one bothers to actually learn the truth.
Everything in this book is so idiotic. So unbelievable, i didn’t care about either of them because they were both acting like CHILDREN. How DOES THIS ALMOST HAVE 4 STARS
Thank you to Author Jennifer J. Williams and the Author Agency for providing me with an ARC of book 1 in the Eternity series. All opinions shared are my own.
Luca is your classic playboy hockey player; confident, gorgeous and used to getting what he wants. At first, Hannah is simply the attractive girl next door who doesn't fall for his charms... his Pixie. She has no idea that he's famous and their attraction only builds, until a formal introduction at the hockey stadium ends things before they can begin. Yet as the tension between them increases, will they be able to follow the rules?
This was a fun, instant attraction romance and I loved Hannah's sassy, take no prisoners attitude. Luca has a reputation and knows it, but for Hannah he would do whatever it takes. I really enjoyed the hockey elements of the book and the fact that Hannah's career is given the importance it deserves in line with Luca's. Love a powerful FMC!
This book is available now so I highly recommend you start the series right ❤
Oh My God. I just finished reading the ARC for this book and I can say that Jennifer knocked it out of the park. The sparks, the drama, the dirty talking, everything was on spot and it made reading this book so easy to enjoy. Hannah and Luca, although faced with challenges(just you wait and read!!) were absolutely divine together. I loved their story and how they grew into better and stronger persons and an it couple. Thoroughly enjoyed it from start to finish!
Luka and Hannah are couple goals! The angsty in this book… hope you are ready. It’s really good. I love how they managed to be strong together through everything. Luca is amazing, falling in love for him it’s so freaking great to witness. He little by little goes from a bad boy to the most thoughtful and swooning partner. And Hannah, gosh I love her so much. She is definitely one of my favorite FMC ever. Love her. Jennifer keeps getting better with each book. This new series is promising! I’m so excited for all the siblings stories. Specially Alex, I know I need to wait but I’m already in love and waiting.
Jennifer J. Williams is a new to me author, so I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed reading “Worth the Risk!”
It’s the story of pro hockey player Luca and Hannah, the new social media coordinator for the team he plays for. This workplace romance was amazing; I couldn’t put it down!
Even though Luca and Hannah didn’t exactly get along in the beginning, I could still see the sparks between them. The way their relationship develops over the course of the novel, and it held my attention the entire time.
Luca had this playboy reputation, which is why Hannah was hesitant to get involved with him at first. But it quickly became apparent that Luca’s feelings for Hannah were genuine, and she wasn’t able to resist his charms.
I thought Luca was incredibly charming, and I loved how close he was with his family, especially his sister Arianna. I also swooned over the way he treated Hannah.
Speaking of Hannah, I thought she was very sweet and kindhearted. She’d been through a lot before she ended up at her new job, and I really wanted to give her a hug.
I also loved that her relationship with Luca allowed her to experience what it was like to be cared for by a good man without ill intentions.
In the end, I’m glad I decided to read “Worth the Risk.” Luca and Hannah’s story was wonderful, and I would definitely recommend to fans of neighbors/hockey/workplace romance novels!
5 Star Review Worth The Risk (Eternity #1) by Jennifer J Williams
Jennifer J. Williams is a new author to me, and I am surprised that I have not read this author before. Worth The Risk is Hannah (aka Pixie) and Luca’s story and it was an entertaining read.
Luca is a professional hockey player for the Denver Wolves and Hannah is the new social media manager for the teams. Now they are neighbours and the sparks are flying between them.
Worth The Risk is the first book in the Eternity series and if this book is anything to go by, then she has a winning series on her hands. This was a book with heat, love, romance and humour and one that ticked all the boxes for me.
I’m looking forward to reading more in the series.
Tropes: -small town -hockey romance -neighbors -found family -southern belle x reformed playboy
This was an overall good book. It was Hannah and Luca’s story. Hannah moves from Georgia and becomes the social media coordinator for the hockey team her uncle is the coach for. Luca is a hockey player on the team with a bad boy vibe to him.
I really enjoyed Luca and Hannah and really liked how hard Luca was trying to change for the better. I thought they brought the best out of each other.
There are parts of Hannah’s last with an abusive ex, family deceit, and some hockey team drama but I felt it balanced the story.
I received an ARC copy in exchange for a honest review.
Worth the Risk is an easy read with lots of angst. Luca and Hannah work together but are also neighbors. He is a hockey player with a reputation, and Hannah has been warned away from him. I enjoyed the way Luca was written, he was genuinely trying to change. The party boy had learned some things along the way, because his dirty talking was on point. There is some drama, but it is mostly an entertaining read.
Jennifer J Williams is a new author to me. I plan to read more of her in the future.
Thank you to the Author for the advanced copy; this is my voluntary review.
I haven’t read anything by this author before but had seen it recommended in a few groups last week leading up to its release. And from the moment I read the dedication I was hooked! This Ohio girl laughed her butt off! And then dove into the rest of this book and fell even more in love! Hannah and Luca are just 🔥 and chef’s kiss. And the Santo family? Yea I love them too and can’t wait for more! This is my first book by this author, but definitely not my last book!
Overall it was a really good book. I felt like it was an instant love type of deal where I'm usually for a more slow burn type of deal. But it definitely hit the mark for me.
Once I started I couldn't put it down. Definitely a must read!
This was a good start to a series and also the first book I read by this author, it was good although to be honest a little dramatic for my taste.
Luka and Hannah were a good couple, I liked them and everything they had to go through to be together and still fight for each other was something I liked about this book; I liked Luke's personality, a veteran hockey player who is on his dream team but at the same time surrounded by people who don't love him, it's something that kept me reading to see how this character would be able to evolve and believe me, I was very surprised, I didn't think everything would be resolved the way it was because yes, this book has a little problem (which in itself is all the drama this book has) that they put it to us little by little from the beginning until it's all revealed. Now Hannah is one of those FMC's that made me think a lot, she left her hometown because of problems with her family and her customs (which I applaud because her family is HORRIBLE) and she gets to work with the hockey team thanks to her uncle, but be aware that our protagonists don't know each other like that, they are "neighbors" and let's say they didn't get off to a good start.
It was not as easy a read as I expected, but I was entertained in the end and I am obviously waiting for the second book in this series.
📌 I received an e-arc, and this is my honest opinion/review of it.
---
I very much enjoyed this book!! I love a steamy forbidden hockey romance, coachs neice is always a good trope, but we're adding in NEIGHBORS? Oh yes.
Our FMC Hannah moves to Denver, CO. to manage the social media of the Hockey Team her Uncle works for. She stays in her Aunts apartment while the aunt is traveling, which is super convenient.
Our MMC, Luca, is the hockey bad boy with hookups & fights. He's in the press all of the time with new stories posted about him, but are they true?
The Chemestry beteeen Han & Luca is explosive. it's instant, like fireworks. I loved it. But this story has a bit of drama & suspense to it, which is a nice reprieve to the just smut books out there. I like the way the author handled the character development, growth, & relationship progression. That's where the amazingness stops for me, unfortunately.
The underlying drama was a bit too much for me. It started out super intriguing, I was extremely invested and wanted to know the who's, why's, and how's to all of my WTF!?'s. Yanno? But when the instigator is revealed I couldn't hold back my eye roll. I'm sorry!! It was a bit unbelievable.
*spoilers below* Why would the Aunt go through that much trouble just to pay back a Hockey star for not sleeping with her? Here's what she does 1. Lies to the Head Coach by saying Luca slept with his Wife. 2. Begins sleeping with the Head Coach instead 3. Offers her place to her Hannah, who happens to have gotten the job w/the team, needs a place to stay, etc. Seems super convenient. 4. Sleeps with Hannahs abusive ex-boyfriend¿ but why? 5. Tells the ex boyfriend where Hannah is so he can come & "collect her". 6. Works w/the Head Coach to set up compromising situations for Luca to look bad in the public eye.
All because he wouldn't sleep with her hoity toity ass? Idk. I was super hooked until she was revealed to be the culprit. I just was disappointed.
The epilogue was like a quick wrap up which seemed rushed. I dont feel like it was even needed because since the series will continue to follow this Italian family, the fact that these two get married, have kids, and the punishment of above mentioned culprits - would natually be mentioned in future stories. I feel like it would have been much preferred to have some of the epilogue info included as subplots in future stories. The epilogue should have been the birth of the baby. Hannahs POV of watching the love radiate off of Luca.
‼️ While this could be read as a standalone, this is book 1 in the Eternity series.

𝕄𝕪 𝕋𝕙𝕠𝕦𝕘𝕙𝕥𝕤: Jumping into this book, I didn't know what I was going to think about it. The author is new to me, and since the start of the year, I've been reading slower than I normally do. I had no issues jumping in and engrossing myself in this storyline. It was just that good!
As someone who lives in the south, I totally related to some of the things Hannah grew up around. As someone who also grew up in the Midwest, I also related to all the baffling southern phrases! It's definitely an adjustment!🤣🤣
I love how obsessed Luca is with Hannah. It doesn't take that man long to be smitten with his Pixie. The sacrifices they made for each other were beautiful and what a relationship should truly be. They both gave 50/50 in all ways!❤️
After finishing this book, I'm excited for Arianna's book, but also excited to go back and read the author's other books! Thank you so much for the ARC, Jennifer!
Super freaking cute romance with a notorious playboy falling from his first look at his new neighbor, instant soul searing connection, and a love that both Luca and Hannah would give up everything for. Hannah is starting over in Colorado, new job, new life, and far away from a controlling family and an even worse ex-boyfriend. Unfortunately her new apartment comes with the worlds most annoying neighbor, loud, up at all times, and obviously a guy who goes through a lot of girls, like daily. He’s also the hottest guy she’s ever seen. And as much as he drives her crazy there is definitely a spark between them. One she knows she should avoid but can’t seem to give in to. It becomes even more important to stay away when she realizes that he’s on the hockey team that she now handles social media for, and scandal is the last thing his reputation needs and everything she wants to avoid at her new job. Always easier said than done though and when they give in to their attraction, they know it has to be a secret. But secrets never stay that way and as it becomes more and more obvious that people know they have to decide if they’re worth the risk of losing everything. I really loved this book. Luca is so charming and it’s crazy adorable how he just knew Hannah was worth whatever it takes after one night of talking to her. I can see why though because Hannah is so genuine, honest, and amazing. Love how Luca’s sister pretty much forces her to be her new bestie and she totally interferes in her own little devious ways to make sure Hannah and Luca don’t lose each other, it’s a whole family thing and it’s funny and touching how quick they are to just open up to her. Truly this whole book is just a fantastic read, Luca is gonna charm the pants off you and make you happy sigh, and Hannah is just that girl you literally cannot help but love.
This was pleasantly surprisingly good. It's a hockey romance but very different from ones I've read. It's not a bad thing, just different as it makes sense because of all the drama that unfolds as the story progresses. Luca is labelled a playboy and is always getting false stories printed about him. But this man loves from the bottom of his heart. So when he meets his temporary neighbour he knew she was it. Unfortunately he didn't give her a good impression haha. Hannah is unknowingly so strong and determined to live life her way. She had to get away from her uptight family and their ‘southern values' (Backward values more like it). Her family are awful and so was her ex. She does talk about abuse and other stuff so please check triggers. Luka and Hannah chemistry was felt through the page and when they give in it was like a celebration and then it wasn't. She works for his hockey team and is one of the coaches neice. She is off Limits. Luca is already on a thin line for unknown reasons and one more incident and he is out. I loved their passion to love and protect each other. I absolutely loved Luca's big Italian family and can't wait to read all of their stories. This book had so many twists on top of twists. It was a shame the main perpetrator (which was a shocking revelation) was very petty and put so many in way of harm. But all the drama did keep me hooked till the end, along with the spice. With everything going against them, is it possible for them to get that HEA?
Quotes I Liked:
“That’s the thing, bella,” he says quietly, “I’m beginning to think you’re worth the risk.”
“I told you a while ago that you were worth the risk, Hannah. And I have never been more certain about anything in my life. The only regret I’ll have right now is if I don’t take the risk with you.”
I received a complimentary early release e-book prior to release and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is the first book in a new series with a relatively new author. It's my first time reading this author and I really loved this story so much. It's an erotic sports romance in the hockey world and it's about neighbors who go from hate to love in a forbidden romance.
We meet southern belle Hannah when she moves to Denver for a new job. She is 28, single and is staying in her aunt's apartment building. She meets her neighbor, NHL player Luca who is single at 30. He has a very bad rep with the ladies and its pretty much hate at first sight. Until one day they get stuck in the elevator together and then their attraction blazes out of control.
This book is very HOT! lots of erotic fun. But it also has intrigue, drama and a bit of insta lust/love and a very forbidden romance.
The forbidden romance is because Hannah came to town for a job working for the same team as the one Luca plays on. She is told numerous times that he is bad news and that dating players is against the teams' unwritten rules. So, to be together they have to hide their relationship from her uncle, the team, its coach's.
The second part of the book is a nail biter. There is drama, people out to hurt Luca and Hannah who do not want them together. That is also when we really get to know the town of Eternity which is what this series is about. We also meet Luca's whole family, and I absolutely loved them.
This is a well written story and I loved getting to know the characters and the residents of Eternity. It is very fast paced and a story I could not put down. It had love, romance, intrigue and characters I fell hard for.
This was such an amazing book to read. It literally felt like nothing I have ever read before, utterly perfect! I sped through this book, I swear I could not put it down, there must be something in this book cause I was instantly hooked and all I want is more!
I loved the plot for Worth The Risk, the book follows Hannah who moves into her aunts apartment while thr aunt is away and Hannah starts a new job at an ice hockey team where on the first night there she has a rowdy neighbour who would not stop partying all through the night so when she finally gives in and confronts him, she ends up meeting Luca who is instantly intrigued with his new neighbour. Safe to say they did not have the best first-hand meeting.
Luca tries everything to get Hannah to talk to him, and eventually, she does, and then we find out that Luca is an ice hockey player on the team that Hannah now works at. Definitely was a nail in their new relationship, to say the least, but I loved seeing how they progressed into having very strong feelings to one another.
So much happens in the plot that it just felt like a whirlwind. Seeing how much character development made it so worth it, I loved how Luca goes from a bad boy to being one of the most caring and loving characters I have read about. He truly cared immensely for Hannah, and so did she, and I'm so glad with how their story played out and that ending was just utterly perfect.
Jennifer has an amazing writing style that just flows so well, and the characters were just instantly loveable, I loved the whole book from start to finish. And I can't wait to read any more books to come out in this series!!
Hannah leaves her family behind in Georgia to take the position of social media manager for the Colorado team where her uncle is a coach. She's staying in her aunt's apartment, and the night before her first day at work, her nextdoor neighbor has a loud party going on. She goes out to the hall to demand they stop so she can get some rest, and this is when she meets Luca.
Luke (Luca) plays for the hockey team Hannah's uncle coaches for, but they don't know it until after sparks fly and they begin to be involved. He's been on the team for 10 years, but word is that management is looking to offload him in a trade. Between that and Hannah working for the team, they decide to back off from each other to keep their jobs safe.
Will that be the end for Hannah and Luca? Or can they find a way to keep their jobs while being together?
I absolutely adored Hannah and Luca. Hannah's got some stuff she's running away from (understandably), and Luca is tired of the image he has in the press. They both want something different, and it turns out each is the change the other needs. There's so much sweetness to them, a bit of spice, and some mystery thrown in for good measure. It gets pretty intense, and I seriously could not put the book down.
I loved Luca's family, and I need more of them in my life. I guess I'll just have to re-read this one until Arianna's book comes out.
- enemies-to-lovers - reformed bad boy - good girl - size difference - forced proximity - soul mates - workplace romance - trapped in an elevator - lovers under cover
This book was not at all what I was expecting and I mean that in the best way!!!
Hannah was raised to be a proper southern lady, find a wealthy man to marry, and be seen not heard. That was never what she wanted. Realizing the traumatic truth of in the aftermath of an abusive relationship and a toxic family, Hannah flees Georgia to Colorado at the first chance she got. When her beloved uncle, an assistant coach for an NHL team, backs her for a social media coordinator position, she sublets her aunt’s apartment and seizes her chance for a fresh start. Luca is ready for a change from his playboy/bad boy hockey player persona, Luke. At one time the reputation was well earned but even when he had changed, the public and his team won’t let him move past it, sending him into spiral he is struggling to escape.
After a few bad encounters as neighbors but layered with obvious attraction, Luca and Hannah find themselves trapped in an elevator. This is where the story gets wild! It was rollercoaster and I did not want to get off the ride! It was giving major soap opera vibes, and for me, who has be been a life long soap fan since I started watching Days of Our Lives at the age of 4 to now when I often get lost in Turkish soap operas, this is high praise! All the twists and turns of a insta-love, forbidden, secret ,workplace, sportsmance; drama from her family and ex; workplace toxicity and fatigue; and a he found family in this story made my silly over the top loving heart so happy! Easily a 5-star read for me!
I was so engrossed in this world and story! I cannot wait for the rest of this series following Luca’s family after all the sprinkles and foreshadowing in this book!
Neighbors Hockey Player x Team Social Media Coordinator Assistant Coach’s Niece Forbidden Relationship Reformed Player Insta Lust/Love Found Family Soap Opera Vibe (in the best possible way, highest of praise)
Hannah needs out of Georgia and away from her abusive ex and narcissistic family. She takes a job as the social media coordinator with a hockey team her uncle coaches with. On her first day in her apartment she meets the team’s bad boy. Only she doesn’t realize he play for the team right away. Luca has been playing hockey for a long time. He is up for contract renewal yet despite his performance on the ice, his personality off the ice has caused issues.
I honestly thought this would be a situation where Hannah changes Luca’s personality but it wasn’t. It was both of them falling in love with the other as they are-no changes needed. Was the love story predictable? Yes. But who cares. It was still sweet to read. There was some intrigue that made you keep wanting to read.
There were moments when I felt like we would jump ahead quickly in time but the story was still catching up. But honestly it didn’t bother me that much. I was invested in these characters and wanted them to be happy together. For my spice rating I kept going back and forth between a higher score (4/5) but open door hierarchy, but these 2 cannot keep their hands off each other and Luca backs up his talk while being a boy obsessed. With that in mind I scored it lower spice wise but higher on the hierarchy.

So for this one, there were things I liked and some things that I didn't like. I enjoyed the book as a whole. I liked Hannah and Luca. I loved the character growth, especially in Luca. The steam was steamy. Luca and his dirty mouth made me fan myself a few times. The sassiness of Hannah made me laugh and root her on.
"Yeah, baby. Gonna ruin you for any other man now, okay?"
That is one of my favorite quotes from any book ever!
There was a lot more suspense in this book which I didn't expect, and was a nice surprise. I liked the side characters, especially Uncle Bennett and Arianna.
"Age is just a number. If their souls are connected, it doesn't matter what decade she was born in."
But there were some things I didn't like. In one chapter, they were fighting, the next he knocked on her door, and they were cuddling in bed. Just seemed rushed to me. I found parts repetitive. Also, her southern sayings didn't come out until the end of the book, which I found odd. But the book was so good, it didn't take away from the overall aspect, if that makes sense.
I cannot wait for the rest of the series. Thank you to Jennifer J. Williams and the Author Agency for this ARC
Tropes/Themes: ✨ Workplace Romance ✨ Hockey ✨ Bad Boy x Good Girl ✨ Abusive Ex ✨ Workplace Drama ✨ Suspense
What it’s about: She’s finally broken free of her family and the man they wanted her to be with, escaped Georgia and made it to Colorado. Thank god for her extended family who’s set her up with a job and a place to live. Now all she needs to do is learn about Hockey so she doesn’t look like an idiot at work… Her neighbor however has different plans, as the day before she’s to start her new job, he’s got three women over partying at 3AM! She storms across the hall to yell at him, and he gets just one look at her and he knows, life as he knew it was over- now all he needs is for her to realize it too.
My Review: Okay, I received the fourth book in this series as an ARC a month ago and ATE IT UP. I knew, just knew I had to go back and read the other installments in this series. I said this in my last review, but if you love small towns, girl gangs and suspense- this author and this series is for you. She writes the most epic MMC’s with strong FMC’s who form their own unique friendships that span across her books. When I tell you I finished this book before bed, then tried and failed to fall asleep because I was ITCHING to start the next one! Sorry if my feed suddenly is just consumed by this author.
I only found Jennifer J. Williams because she’s one of the authors at a book conventions I’m going to, and I am thrilled that I branched out to try her Eternity series. I tend to be pretty picky about my small town romances because it’s just not one of my preferred tropes, but add in the hockey element and I’ll read anything.
Luca broke me. I’m in love. Loving him is now my personality. I so thoroughly loved Luca, and Hannah, and this story. I read it in a matter of hours, staying up way past my bedtime. I squealed with joy, laughed, gasped in shock all the way through the book. It wasn’t perfect. Some things felt a little too abrupt, like the shift into the relationship. There are some characters who start out as characters we are not meant to really like, but then get a bit of a redemption, and I felt like they started off a bit too horrible to really achieve that. And some of the plot twists, while completely fun and fascinating, felt like a little much for a contemporary small town hockey romance with neighbors/workplace/found family tropes. But none of those things ruined my enjoyment in any way. The writing and characters and development over all felt pretty solid. I loved it, mess and all.
I gave this 4.5 stars. I think that’s a fair compromise between the 4 stars my head wants to give it and the 5 stars my heart demands.
This was a sweet, dramatic, hockey romance with great characters.
Hannah is a slightly awkward, slightly anxious southern belle who left her socialite lifestyle (and a bad relationship) behind in Georgia.
Luca is a playboy NHL player; he has a reputation and is worried about being traded this year… especially when he falls for the “pixie” across the hall who ends up being his coach’s niece.
This book features a secret relationship and blackmail and a close-knit family and a revenge plot and a crazy ex and the happiest HEA.
THOUGHTS 💭 🏒 Luca is close with his family, which made for funny, meddlesome conversations. 🏒 While in their secret relationship, Hannah and Luca’s clandestine meetings were 🥵🥵🥵; the lead-up to the spice was perfect. 🏒 I loved Hannah’s quirkiness, including her southern-isms and her spur-of-the-moment bucket list in the elevator. 🏒 There are many layers to the conflict of this story and it kept me on my toes!
I enjoy reading the first book in a new series - in Worth the Risk, we get not only Hannah and Luca’s story, but also get the groundwork laid for future Santo siblings’ stories. I’m excited for Arianna’s story next.
Thanks so much to Jennifer J Williams and The Author Agency for the ARC of this book!
I was looking for something hockey to read and saw a reel for this book and jumped at the chance to read it. There is something fun when you know that there is a forbidden element that is supposed to stop two people from being together, but when crazy things keep happening to Luca’s new neighbor, Hannah, they are forced together, and those embers light up. Hannah needs a new job and somehow manages to land one handling the social media for her uncle’s hockey team. She knew football so this is a whole new adventure for her and lucky her aunt is going oversees for a while, so she is able to lease her apartment from her. Not realizing that her new neighbor is one of the hockey players she will be working with. I love seeing these two together and the way they just are there for the other made me smile. There is a simplicity that they both just want in their life, though there is an underlining fact that each is working through. Luca is struggling with just finding joy in his game while Hannah knows that she is really on her own as her parents want her in a high-profile relationship that isn’t good for her. Each of these two sees the other for who they really are and not the mask that they wear. There is a little suspense in the background which adds another layer to a great book.
A well written romance novel with great characters. I have read 3 other books by this author, and they all have such interesting characters and dynamics. I started with the Mile High series, and have been following the guys from that hockey team, so I was excited to see Luca's girl and story. I had never had any other hockey interests, but these books hooked me. I will probably read more in the Worth the ____ series now, but only bc I don't see anymore with the team (which has been my priority). Of the 4 books by this author that I have read, this one has the most dramatic plot. *Spoilers start here* I was ok with an extra kinda evil antagonist (the coach), then an abusive ex shows up and I went along with it. But then there was also an evil relative? That seemed a bit over the top. The statement of the relative being the "mastermind" behind the other 2 bad guys recent deeds seemed implausible and kinda ruined it a bit. I mean a serial sexual harasser and a potential rapist don't need someone else to give them bad ideas. And the relative's motivations for having it out for the F lead were vague and weak for the lengths they went to to hurt her. Luckily, this twist was in the epilogue, so you can skip that part.

Hannah is the Denver Wolves hockey team's new social media manager. Luca is her new neighbor. Their first time meeting was not a great first meeting and she immediately can't stand him. But as time goes on she learns to put her walls down and see Luca for who he really is. Then one day he walks into her office and learns he is one of the team's hockey players. They are part of the same hockey program and their relationship feels forbidden. He's the black sheep of the team and his coaches are doing everything they can to get rid of him based on false events. Hannah makes him want to be a better man so she's worth the risk, but she's forced to stay away from him...
This book is filled with twists and turns that I was not expecting, which made it so exciting to read. The story and characters were excellent. Hannah and Luca are so sweet together. Everyone deserves a Luca. Him and his family are amazing and it was so nice that Hannah fits right in.
If you are into hockey romances, workplace romances, neighbors in love, secrets and betrayals, and found families - then this book is definitely for you!
Worth the Risk by Jennifer J. Williams centers around Hannah and Luca, two dynamic characters whose chemistry and personal struggles drive the narrative. Hannah is a strong, determined woman with a complicated past, while Luca is a protective, tortured hero with a deep sense of loyalty. When their lives intersect, their connection is immediate, but both are carrying emotional baggage that makes them wary of fully opening up to each other.
The story unfolds as Hannah and Luca are forced to confront their personal demons while navigating a dangerous situation that puts both of them at risk. Their romance develops slowly, filled with tension, misunderstandings, and emotional moments that make their eventual bond feel earned. The pacing of the book keeps readers engaged as the stakes rise, and the evolving relationship between Hannah and Luca adds depth to the action-packed plot.
Jennifer J. Williams does a great job of balancing romance with suspense, and the connection between Hannah and Luca is both heartwarming and intense. Their individual journeys toward trust, healing, and love make Worth the Risk a compelling read for fans of romantic suspense.
I’m a sucker for a “he falls first” storyline and this one was quite enjoyable!
Even though Luca came off as a womaniser at the start of the book, you could see very quickly that he was trying to change for the better. I really loved him and Hannah together as a couple. I liked that he brought Hannah out of her shell bit by bit and was the gateway for her to make some lasting friendships. They were super sweet and adorable. I loved that Luca was determined to give her everything and fulfil her bucket list too.
The third act conflict was kinda wild and I wasn’t expecting so many people to take part it in. I’m so glad it was resolved quickly and all those involved got their comeuppance!
I loved the side characters we met in this. I cannot wait for more stories with the delightful Santo family in particular! The tease we got of Ari’s book tells me it’s going to be delicious with a side of tension 🥵
Overall this was a sweet, romantic and mildly quirky romance with a dash of the forbidden and a sprinkle of sports and I can’t wait to see what’s next!
