The world is a broken place marred by evil, and evil’s influence impacts us all. It is often difficult for people to grasp what God is like in a world such as ours. Jesus shows us the heart of God in a world of heartache. He is the most beautiful, compelling, tender person who has lived.
Jesus is the radiance of God’s glory. He shines forth what God is like; He is a beacon of light that cuts through the darkness of evil and radiates the goodness of God. He is the exact representation of God the Father. If you want to know what God is like, look to Jesus. Don’t look through the lens of evil or the lenses of either the church or religion. Look to Jesus. That is why He came. The world is not an exact representation of God. The church is not an exact representation of God. Jesus is. He came to freshly present what the Father is like to those of us who are spiritually impaired by a world of suffering.
The Tenderness of Jesus, in many ways, is my most personal book to date. I invite you to listen in as I write to my four young adult children about the tenderness of Jesus Christ. Come sit with us around the dinner table. May this fresh glimpse of Jesus heal your broken heart and reignite your spiritual fervor.
It took a little bit to get into the writing style (as his audience is his children)…but once you can, it’s quite beautiful. I read it much slower then I do most books as I had been digging into the compassion of Jesus the past year. This book is a beautiful companion to do that with as Reimer portrays the beauty and tenderness of Jesus in the most peaceful of ways.
I am so thankful for this book. As someone who has experienced church and family trauma, it is hard not to lose hope and it is not always easy to remember the Lord of the church when the church feels disappointing or worse. In The Tenderness of Jesus, Rob speaks to the reader as a gracious dad speaks to his kids about the kindness and wonder of the person of Jesus. But, what do you do when those who bear his name cause pain? First, you can turn your eyes to Jesus and remember his love, his grace, and his tender invitation to relationship and transformation. I am hopeful that this book will speak to people on a wide spectrum of faith journey, and for those who feel disillusioned, I trust this is a warm welcome back to the open arms of a Savior who is better than we could possibly imagine.

My journey with Dr. Reimer began through the pages of his books, where his wisdom and insight illuminated my path in ways I could never have imagined. Having had the privilege of being a student under Dr. Reimer’s guidance, I can attest firsthand to his exceptional character and unwavering commitment to transparency and vulnerability. His authenticity shines through his words, creating a connection that resonates deeply with readers from all walks of life. One of the most memorable moments I’ve experienced was when Dr. Reimer graciously prayed over my husband and me, offering words of deliverance and hope that have stayed with us ever since. It is rare to encounter someone as genuine and trustworthy as Dr. Reimer, both in his writing and in his personal interactions. I wholeheartedly recommend delving into all of Dr. Reimer’s books, each offering a unique perspective and invaluable insights for anyone on a journey of self-discovery and spiritual growth. Thank you, Dr. Reimer, for your dedication to empowering others through your work. You have truly made a difference in my life, and I am forever grateful.

Reimer's teaching will change the way you think about Jesus and your relationship with him. Few authors write with the vulnerability and authenticity Reimer puts in every book. "Tenderness" is no exception.
I had originally rated this book a '3' as I rarely rate books a five and mostly land on '3s' and '4s.' This book is written a different style than most of his other books, which threw me initially. However, in the days after finishing it, a lot is lingering in my mind and heart, always the mark of a significant book. On that basis, it easily deserves a '4.' If you've been hurt by the church, confused by the faith "deconstruction," or annoyed by religious people, this book will change your perspective and likely bring healing to some of the dings in your heart.
tenderness of Christ that brings healing to the brokenhearted
I read this book in tears because of the tenderness of Jesus Christ that comes through every word spoken and written in this book. If you are a praying parent, this book is for you. If you have walked away from faith and God, this book is for you. If you are a pastor, this book is for you. You, too, can know and experience the most beautiful tenderness of Jesus Christ.
I read this book in the midst of a trial. I have to say I was thirsting for His prescence and felt lost as most of us feel sometimes when we're focused on ourselves. However, when reading The Tenderness Of Jesus, I found myself in tears about 7 times remembering my own encounters and just in Awe of Daddy in every chapter. This book boosted my hope in Jesus and encouraged me to diligently keep seeking Him. What an incredible book! Thank you for writing this! God bless you!
I’ve read a few of Dr. Reimer’s books at this point but I have to say that this one spoke to me deeply. The season I’m in right now called for an understanding of Jesus’ love and tenderness. I feel encouraged and deeply loved. I recommend this to anyone who feels they know God but feel like they don’t feel loved by God.
The title describes the book exactly. Through the Bible and personal stories the author illustrates what it looks like to experience the tenderness of Jesus. The style of the book is a letter written to his children which enhances the personal perspective of the book
A beautiful book. The authors love for Jesus is shared so well. I appreciate how it feels more intimate as you read from the perspective of a father sharing with his children. I read this “devotionally” and found it restorative and peaceful.
Dr. Reimer has shared one way to deepen our faith is to remind ourselves of what God has done by reading stories of those who have walked with God. Now, Reimer has his own book to place in that category. This book breathes testimony after testimony of the tenderness of God in his life with encouragement that we can experience the same thing. I loved the ‘experience’ section at the end of each chapter that challenges readers to sit with Jesus to experience their own tender moments. It didn’t take long for the Holy Spirit to speak to my own heart and meeting me in His tenderness. Grateful for him inviting us to his table and allowing us to hear his heart.
Dr. Rob Reimer is one of my favorite authors, I always wondered what having Rob Reimer as a dad would be like. What wisdom would he share daily. Well, this book, The Tenderness of Jesus, is probably the closest thing to that. The world is not a kind place and often the church has done more damage than help. Dr. Reimer writes that “if we are going to treat others with dignity and respect, honor and kindness, gentleness and authentic love, we must know that we are deeply loved. We treat others in accordance with the way we truly see ourselves…If we have a keen sense of self-acceptance, we can accept others when they differ from us. And that is what Jesus is like in all His remarkable beauty.” (p.33 Kindle) Today, our social media frenzied society is creating more division than ever. In this compact book dense with Scripture and truth, Dr. Reimer nails true tolerance to mean that “we allow people to express their opinions, and we will treat them with dignity and respect. Not that we will agree with them, but we will honor them.” The key message is succinctly put, “we judge others through our unprocessed wounds. If we authentically encounter the love of Christ, our wounds will be healed. When our wounds are healed, we will be less judgmental of others.” (p. 35 Kindle) The world leaves us jaded and our souls corrupted. We need to align with the tenderness of Jesus in order to have compassion. On our own, we are hardened. I needed the reminder that I am making life too much about me and not enough about Jesus. Dr. Reimer asks, “If you could do life over, what would you do differently?” It is surprising to me that most people answered him with “nothing,” there is so much self-focus and not about the people who we have hurt or how we could have done better. I want to love my husband well, I want to love my children better, but I need the tenderness of Jesus in order to succeed. Dr. Reimer has a good way of describing what Jesus has done on the cross. We hear the Sunday School answers, but not put in this way: “It isn’t just that Jesus wiped out our moral debts before God. He deposited His perfect holiness into our eternal bank account. In banking terms, we had an insurmountable debt, and Jesus didn’t only wipe out the debt and give us a zero balance. Jesus wiped out our debt and deposited His riches in our account. We went from bankrupt to rich like royalty in a dramatic, divine shift. All it takes to receive this gift is humility…” This reality makes me stop everything that I am doing and revere Lord Jesus. Marriage is difficult, raising teenagers is difficult, navigating each day by trying not to offend people is difficult, I mess up. It is important to be reminded that I don’t need to condemn myself each time and Jesus is not wagging His finger at me. I can repent. Dr. Reimer defines this in a beautiful way, “Repentance is returning to the safety of God’s house. This is why God calls us to follow Him, and when we wander, He calls us to repent. He is calling us back home, into His presence. It isn’t with judgment that He calls us home; it is with the tender heart of love.” (p. 45 Kindle) I could feel the wetness of tears that fill these pages because it is obvious that he wrote this book with deep love for each of his four children and grandchild. It is grief, to let our children grow up and release them into a merciless world. Dr. Reimer weeps the tenderness of Jesus, for Jesus’ tenderness has met him. He can cry “tears for the pain of others.” (p. 37 Kindle) This book is filled with love, mercy and much tenderness. Just finished reading it and I know that my heart has been softened because I was met with the tenderness of Jesus.
This is probably the best book I read all year! It's reawakened my faith and helped me experience Jesus more. I might read this every year! Such an amazing book!
I,give this book five stars because it was excellent reading and something I truly needed to hear. I love this book because not only it is being addressed to his children, Dr. Reimer is also sharing it to those who are eager to know God's love and tenderness. I also loved how he uses exercises at the end of each chapter so I can experience the tenderness of Jesus personally. I would recommend this book to my family friends but most importantly my daughter who is going through her own struggles and I would share it with those who need to know who Jesus is. This book truly my heart because I am now seeing Jesus Christ the way He always wanted me to encounter Him. This book is so amazing just like every other book Dr. Reimer has written and I have them all. I also had the privilege of having him as my professor in Seminary and took his Soul Care class and attended Holy Spirit Weekend toward the end of the semester. Dr. Reimer has a heart for Jesus and is an obedient servant of God. The Lord uses him mightily in deliverance ministry and he truly cares for the souls of people.
