I’ve been in love with Dr. Grant Brighton for four long years.
He’s tall. Gorgeous. Brilliant. An amazing single dad.
He’s also straight, uninterested in dating someone ten years younger than him, and, tragically, *my boss*.
If I’d known taking the nanny position would mean mangling my heart, I might never have accepted his offer, but I love the Brighton family so I’ve resigned myself to never living the fairytale…
At least until the Dean of Admissions at the girls’ dream school says only families with two parents need apply, and in desperation, Grant makes me a different offer: to be his on-paper *husband*.
With things heating up between us and my heart hanging in the balance, how can I convince Grant to make me the proposal I really want: to turn this marriage of convenience into a real-life happily-ever-after?

I only keep a small list of my very favorite books and series in my bookshelf here. I read A LOT and it's hard to keep the list updated!
DNF right from the sample. No rating . Again this click bait method a lot of authors use in their blurb lately and I’m so freaking tired of it. Like : “I’ve been in love with my very straight ,single-father boss for 4 years” only for the book to start with the boss saying: “I’ve known I was gay for 5 years”. And apparently quite attracted to the nanny. And who couldn’t in 4 years let the nanny know he was gay. A 24 years old nanny who is absolutely perfect, the best guy in the world, the perfect surrogate father, the best caretaker, wise and smart and …practically a dream come true. I REALLY REALLY doubt a 20 years old kid is ALL that. I know it’s fiction but if I wanted bed time story I’d go read Snow White, it’s more believable than a 20 years old kid who runs a household and raises 3 children perfectly and flawlessly.
The Nanny Proposal is a stand alone novella by Lucy Lennox. This is a quick, fake marriage, boss/nanny romance that was sweet, sexy and fun. I read it in one afternoon and loved it.
Dr. Grant Brighton is thirty four years old. He is a single dad to three wonderful girls and is a trauma surgeon. He works long hours but tries to devote as much time as possible to his girls. But he couldn’t do it alone. He couldn’t do it without his nanny that he had hired four years ago, who is ten years younger than he is and who he is secretly in love with.
Brody Kelly is twenty four years old and is in his final semester of his software engineering degree. Brody lost his family years ago so the Brighton’s are like a family to him now. He runs their lives like clockwork, being there for anything the girls need and keeping Grant’s life running smoothly. He loves the girls like they’re his own. And since the beginning, he has been in love with Grant Brighton. Secretly. Because why would a well respected surgeon ever want a nanny ten years younger than he is?
The girls have been dreaming about being able to attend the Mountbatten Preparatory Academy so Brody has prepared all the paperwork and it’s the big day where Grant is meeting with the school. One issue, the school has a rule that they only accept two parent homes. They want the parents to be involved in the school’s activities. So of course, Grant lets them believe he and Brody are married.
Could this be Brody’s dream come true? A marriage to the man he is in love with? Even if it’s just on paper? Or, maybe he can convince Grant to make their marriage real, at least until Grant decides they don’t need to be married anymore. Is it wrong to want the fairy tale, even if for just a little while?
I loved this. I hated that Grant truly believed that he wasn’t capable of being emotionally available to someone. That he didn’t consider that maybe he just wasn’t with the right person! And I felt so bad that Brody was just waiting for the other shoe to drop. That he didn’t trust that he could be enough for Grant. It had a sweet ending with not one but two epilogues that were wonderful. If you read Lucy’s other book, Borrowing Blue, you’ll also love getting a glimpse of Blue and Tristan. It made me smile so big!
(I waffled a LOT between 1 & 2 ⭐️, opted to round to two)
DNF @ 20%
I cannot buy into this story. At all. I get that it’s a novella, but that means the info provided needs to make sense even if bereft.
First, the blurb that makes it seem like this is a gay man in love with his straight employer. Except Grant states within the first chapter that he’s known he was gay for over 5 years. It just “hasn’t come up”. Brody has lived in his home for 4 years. You’re purposefully hiding something if it doesn’t come up once with someone you’ve lived with for 1500 days.
Brody is constantly correcting himself “Gr—Dr. Brighton.” There is no way that either A. y’all don’t call each other by first names OR B. That, in 4 years, you’re still accidentally - and *constantly* - forgetting and having to correct yourself mid-name.
Brody is some kind of super-nanny… ahem… childcare specialist who was instantly adept at managing a busy household with 3 girls who had newly divorced parents. At 20-years-old. Also - get used to the phrase “childcare specialist”. It’s used a lot.
I’m bummed because I adore Nanny romance, age gap, and - usually - Lucy Lennox. I thought this would be a slam dunk. Unfortunately I can’t finish.
Narration: Michael Dean is good here. He gives all the characters unique voices.
It was a very “meh” kinda plot; both ridiculously crazy and yet dull and cliche. Not sure that I would recommend this book to anyone, but the narration definitely kept me from DNFing..
I started out loving this, but once the ex wife arrived it just went downhill for me. I didn’t really like her, but she had a point. Brody acted like a teenager not a 24 year old man. The miscommunication and Brody’s childish behavior made me feel bad. The ending was happy as I knew it would be. I would have given it two stars but Michael Dean’s narration of the audiobook was incredible as always.
DNF. I think I've said it before but this time I mean it--I'm officially done with this author. I'm not sure if it's her writing or Michael Pauley's narration but it's always nothing but frustration and eye rolls and I'm tapping out for good, daggone it!
I should have read the reviews first. It gets 2 stars because I finished it but man is it bad. - it needs an editor, especially the first half. Lots of typos. - I have no idea why they love each other. There's no relationship building. They've lived in the same house for 4 years - we see none of that. - apparently he has deep sadness from losing his family tragically - we never see that - His friend cannot say his name, it's always "babydoll" or "boo" at the end of every sentence - the age thing is an issue for me. Seriously, he can be a graduate student just as well as an undergrad. It wouldn't change the book any and make the consent not so questionable. - his age is equally distance between the kids as it is to Grant. So he has just as much in common with both? - the ex wife is a peice of work and we're not supposed to hate her for leaving her kids? - god save me from Taylor Swift in my romance novels please, but at least it wasn't 80s music so it was timely pop culture references. But really Beyonce is a better dance choice. - if you get off on miscommunication this is the book for you.
All in all it felt like I read a very rough draft of an idea for a good book. It just needs a lot of finishing.
Sweet story but there was a bit too much miscommunication (on the verge of annoying) and the ex-wife came on kind of strong, I took an instant dislike to her and I'm not sure that was the reaction that was expected. I'm also a bit disappointed it didn't turn out to be a sexual awakening for Grant because that was what I was looking to read. I was really happy to see Blue and Tristan again, they made me think I might do a re-read of their story Borrowing Blue (Not necessary to read that story to enjoy this one)
Even with the minor niggles I found this story an enjoyable one.
This book started out great and I thought it was going to be a four star read, then the estranged ex-wife showed up and the book just goes downhill fast… I couldn’t make myself finish.
I adore Lucy Lennox but this just didn’t work as a novella. The concept of the plot wasn’t bad but far too much miscommunication and too much telling vs showing was needed to get through it in the short amount of pages in the book. 🤷🏻♀️ The inner monologue and doubt was just annoying, they had already lived together for 4 years by the time for their marriage of convenience rolls around for fucks sake 🙄
Una bellissima storia age-gap con un famoso chirurgo Grant Brighton e uno "specialista in assistenza all’infanzia a tempo pieno" Brody Kelly!! 😂🥰 Un bel cameo con la coppia Blue e Tristan Marian! 🥰💞
Gay nanny and gay employer mutually pine for each other blindly for 4 years until they need to fake a marriage for private school admission. And his ex-wife of 5 years shows up, in their bedroom, the morning after with plans to move back in. Plus, Grant is a 34 year old trauma doctor with 3 kids, ages 14 to 6, so he knocks up college girlfriend at age 20 and still managed to complete college and med school, while ex stays home but also manages to become renowned photographer. And 24-year old Brody is the perfect, loving nanny for 3 girls. Right … The characters and plot are all idiotic.
Fun and romantic for Brody and Grant and the kids !
After being a live-in child specialist for four years through college, Brody, 24, has new schooling in the fall.
Grant, 34, is signing his girls up for a new school, which requires a married pair to qualify. He goes home to to tell Brody what he did, and Brody is speechless. Plus, Grant asks…“Will you marry me?”
The fun begins as they move forward, talk and then must explain it to the children.
Ex-wife Liza, pops in and is rude and causes problems. Grant is not having her interference, and makes sure Brody knows how “in love “ he is.
Grant is terrific, and Brody is smart and perfect for Grant and the great girls.
In the chaos, Grant must prove just how much he loves Brody.
We get deep talks, hot sexiness, and 2 epilogues !
You know what? This was cute and pretty low drama. For a man that isn't apparently very good with emotions, Grant was fairly clued in. He was told to give his husband his freedom and acknowledged that but also wanted to make sure his own feelings were known. He wanted the marriage. They both did. Lovely little appearance from Tristan and Blue. I got this as a BOGOF deal so I listened to it. Michael Dean isn't my favourite narrator but he was good here. I did speed it up as usual
As much as I normally love Lucy's books, this one just didn't work for me. I think it was a good skeleton of the story, but without more of the details, the past 4 years and the build up it just fell flat for me. I realize part of this is my issue with shorter stories, but this isn't always true for me. So, YMMV, this is probably a case of it's me not the book.
I would say 2.5 but really there is nothing that is worth mentioning in this book. it is a story of Brody and Grant. brody is the nanny of Grant's 3 daughters and they both had a crush for years but both didn't know the other had the same feelings (typical!!). these typical plots make this book just meh. if you just want to read a super short book that will make you irritated at some point but will be over very quickly because the story is super short then go for it.
These days, I seem to be a Lucy Lennox fan account. I love her stories! I just finished up The Nanny Proposal. I loved it!
Brody is a "full-time child care specialist." LOL - he is a live-in nanny and has been with Dr Brighton & his three girls for four years. He is also hopeless in love with Grant ✨️Dr. Brighton✨️
Grant is a workaholic who loves his kids. His life seems to work because Brody is the boots on the ground doing the day to day with the girls. Grant is also lusting hard for the nanny.
Circumstances happen, and suddenly, Brody and Grant are in a fake relationship but also actually married.
These two eventually get it together, and I loved watching it happen. The girls and the other parents are great side characters, and Liza did not make a great first impression, but she grew on me.
I'll be honest, I can't remember how I came to be in possession of The Nanny Proposal, but I loved Grant and Brody and their ridiculous situation and smitten-ness. Overall, it's a great novella!
I’m usually a sucker for this kind of trope… both MCs hopelessly in love and thinking the other doesn’t feel the same way until they get their shit together. It wasn’t bad per say, it just felt a bit rushed and it drove me crazy that EVERY chapter ended with the sentence “but things didn’t go as planned” or some iteration of. I can only handle such a lack of communication before I want to pull my hair out. I was screaming “JUST TALK TO EACH OTHER” over and over again, it’s hard to believe people who knew each other so well and for so long would be completely clueless about the others feelings but oh well
This was a quick, cute read. I liked both Brody and Grant and thought they were great for each other. I also loved the relationship that Brody had with Grant's kids. He really was a second dad to them.
What I didn't like was all the self doubt both of these guys had. Geez, they just needed to say, I've wanted you for forever and it would've been so much better. Instead we don't get that until right at the end and have to suffer through Brody leaving because he doesn't know his place.
And let's not forget Liza was a total bitch. I couldn't stand her and hated her coming in the picture at all. She should've just stayed gone as she had the past 5 years.
i have read fanfic (bonus points if you can guess the pairing) that handles this exact prompt better sadly — should’ve dnf’d. also didn’t realize this was a short story until i was like 2/3 thru and definitely it needed either fewer plot events or more length — something to lend it an iota of depth/substance. for all the different things that happen, more of a concept than an actual story tbh!! anyway what i feared from the arrival of the ex didn’t quite happen but still there was no need to go there with the plot. the weird tie-in to another novel/couple sure was something (someone in the reviews tell me which!)
