The Price of Beauty Just Went Up…

After a beautiful but aging fashion magazine editor has a psychotic break, she sets out to destroy a younger coworker who she believes is out to take her place.

Celeste and Kael both work at the fashion magazine, Haute Woman, and just can't stand each other. Kael, the young, edgy features editor, thinks Celeste, the beautiful, older editor-in-chief, is "antiquated," while Celeste thinks that Kael is a social-climbing backstabber who is trying to steal her job. Eventually, their contentious relationship comes to a head when Kael finds out to what extent her much-lauded editor in chief has gone over the edge…and that she intends to take Kael with her.

Social satire meets psychological thriller in this novel set in the world of high fashion. Beauty Hurts is a novel about two women who just can't get along.

Dnf at 16%, this book is like Devil wears Prada, the movie. But it feel fake and very scripted, I’m not feeling it. I have a really weird feeling while reading it.

Definitely a self-published work. Could have used some attention to grammar and spelling, but overall it had a plot with a theme that was coherent and pretty straight-forward. It also helps that it's a pretty short story compared to most other books.

The first 2/3 of the book were basically The Devil Wears Prada. The last 1/3 had the action kick into gear, but it was weirdly blocked and, at times, nonsensical. Many plot lines remained unwrapped at the end.

That being said, it is an accomplishment to write and finish a book so…four stars.

Fun and short story.

It was a playful read, reminiscent of Ugly Betty if everything went absolutely to shit. The story moved quickly and we got all the information needed without being overwhelmed. I think if you're looking to read something, but don't want to have to think too hard, then this is the book for you.
