Rate this book
Jonas Amsel and Avalina Keller, devoted Nazis and best friends, have a bright future in Hitler’s Third Reich. Ava, a talented gymnast, wants to serve Germany in the Olympics, and Jonas, who has loved Ava since they were children, wants nothing more than to marry her and start a family. When he is about to propose, however, Ava and her entire family vanish without a trace.

Jonas blames the Jews for Ava’s disappearance and throws himself into a career in the Nazi Party. He serves the Reich under the ruthless Chief of the Gestapo, Reinhard Heydrich. Jonas becomes particularly good at capturing members of the Black Foxes, an anti-Nazi resistance group, earning Heydrich’s respect and the moniker of “the Fox Hunter.”

Impressed by Jonas’ skills, Heydrich gives him his most difficult task yet: capture the elusive Black Fox One, the Black Foxes’ most deadly and mysterious operative. No Nazi who has pursued Black Fox One has returned alive, but Jonas is determined and confident. Capturing Black Fox One might bring him one step closer to finding Ava.

But while he is hunting Black Fox One, Jonas makes a shocking discovery, forcing him to make an agonizing decision. He must choose between his love for the Reich and his heart, torn between the lies he has been taught all his life and the new truth before him.

Black Fox One is a thrilling World War II story of lost love, bravery, and the hard road to redemption.

BLACK FOX ONE (Project 613 Series Book #3) by Elyse Hoffman is a historical fiction/romance in the Project 613 series which features diverse stories of intrigue, love, and redemption during WWII. This story features a romance between childhood best friends to lovers with several life altering twists of fate. I feel these books are best read in order due to carry over characters and underlying themes.

Jonas Amsel and Avalina “Ava” Keller have grown up from childhood best friends to lovers in a changing Germany. Hitler is in power, and both believe in his vision. As they become young adults, Ava is set to represent her country in the Olympics as a gymnast and Jonas is going to follow his father into the ranks of the SS. When Ava returns, Jonas is ready to propose and start a family with the love of his life, but when he goes to Ava’s house, her entire family has disappeared.

Jonas throws himself into his SS career and becomes “The Fox Hunter” who is dedicated to capturing all the Black Foxes, who are members of a resistance group. He is especially determined to capture Black Fox One who is the most mysterious and deadly of their group. When he comes face to face with Black Fox One, he must make agonizing decisions.

This is a unique WWII historical romance. Both protagonists, Jonas and Ava, go through life altering events and emotional upheaval throughout their lives that kept me turning the pages. Their choices and decisions are the powerful pivotal points of the story. I also found the author’s depiction of the SS officers’ choices they made regarding their families and their loyalty to the Party throughout this series disturbing. This entire series has been fascinating so far due to the author’s character depictions and their moral choices.

I highly recommend this unique historical fiction/romance and I am anxiously waiting for the next book in this series.

I don't read a lot of romance. Historical fiction even more so, especially when the time period is something I'm not quite familiar with (and I'm more of a Roman Empire girl, LOL). But a friend recommended this to me after I helped in the tour of Elyse Hoffman's other book, The Vengeance of Samuel Val, and I said yes after reading the first paragraph of the blurb. Best friends, lost loves? That's just my thing!

So, yes, I went in without knowing a whole lot about WWII, and without having read the previous installment of Project 613, which contains interconnected stories centered on the Black Foxes, a resistance group that attempt to save Jews from the Nazis. It wasn't hard to get into the story, however. The backdrop is familiar; who hasn't studied WWII in school? And the story quickly zeroes in on the main characters, Jonas and Ava, with the occasional scenes from the POVs of Heydrich, Jonas' boss, and Dieter, Jonas' father.

Did I mention childhood/best friends to lovers is one of my favorite romance tropes? Sprinkle that with tragedy and... yeah, I knew when Ava disappeared that I was going to love this book. And I wasn't wrong. The romance plot was satisfying, but it did not distract from the bigger plot. Nor was it overly cheesy. The characters were also relatable and complex, neither being one-dimensionally good nor one-dimensionally evil. (Just like the discussion on yetzer hatov and yetzer hara.)

And I did not expect the last scene of the Epilogue. The shift might be a little jarring if you only read historical fiction, but as someone with broader tastes (and who reads a lot of fantasy), I really liked it.

I'm going to have to go back and read The Vengeance of Samuel Val now, and I'm excited for Adiel and the Führer!

Black Fox One begins with Jonas and Ava, friends throughout their entire childhoods who inevitably fall in love. But when Ava and her family disappears, Jonas’ world comes crashing down around him. He throws himself head first into his job as the notorious Fox Hunter, but all the while his main priority is finding the love of his life. One a mission to hunt down Black Fox One, Jonas unmasks some truths and some secrets that he never could have imagined, and will flip his entire life upside down.

This book is jam packed with interesting characters. My personal favourite is Ava. She’s a strong female, who always stands for what she believes in, and in this case what she knows is right. Her bravery is undeniable, and she’s willing to put her own life on the line to save as many others as she possibly can. Like with a lot of the authors books, we gets some familiar faces from other books, and I love revisiting them in a different way, often just as a side character.

Jonas’ struggle between the truth and everything he has ever known is clearly incredibly difficult for him, but it’s also very realistic of that period in time. After being taught something for you’re entire life, it’s often hard to accept the truth, that you’ve been lied to, manipulated, and in many ways used, but I thought that the author handled this extremely well.

Towards the end of the story, it revolves mostly around Jonas’ chance of redemption. With excitement and explosions, the book comes together in a thrilling climax where love conquers all. Jonas’ love for Ava was stronger than anything else, and he went to the ends of the earth to prove it. The ending of the books is super satisfying, and the last few lines sets us up perfectly for the next book in the series.

Elyse Hoffman’s unique approach to WWII historical fiction never fails to amaze me. The way she writes and the way she tackles certain subjects is unlike anything I’ve read before, and is why I’m always drawn back to her books. She is easily one of my favourite historical fiction authors, and Black Fox One is a fantastic addition to an already fantastic series. I’m looking forward to reading her next book already!

Another gripping historical read from Elyse Hoffman with a twist of romance. Jonas and Ava have been best friends since childhood, supporting the Nazi Reich as they grew into teens and their friendship deepened into love. Just when an engagement is proposed, Ava and her family go missing. Jonas, in his bid to track Ava down becomes one of the best hunters of The Black Foxes. He is tasked with an important mission by Heydrich; a mission that takes a surprising turn and makes Jonas question everything. He is forced to make a life-changing decision. This is a fast-paced and emotionally engaging read. It is impactful with just enough details of the horrors faced to allude to historical facts without being overwhelming. #blackfoxone #elysehoffman #thewritereads

A thrilling and thought provoking World War II novel!

I have only read World War II novels from the Jews point of view before, this novel was 180° turn for me, the main character Jonas Amsel is completely committed, heart and soul to the Nazi's after the sudden disappearance of his love Avalina Keller and her family.

Jonas is a headstrong character and works relentlessly to please Chief of the Gestapo, Reinhard Heydrich all while keeping his hope alive to finding Ava and bringing her home.  Jones is ruthless and strong and defies the odds and finds many of the "Black Foxes" earning him a chilling tittle of "The Fox Hunter".  Proud of his new tittle he jumps at the chance to find Black Fox One, a deadly operative for the Black Foxes that leaves no one alive when they come looking.  Jonas is determined to complete this mission and use this Black Fox One to find out where Ava is.. but things aren't always so Black and white.

I was really drawn to Jonas and his struggle with where is loyalty should fall and the weight and price of true love.  The story takes place in 1927 and the amount of detail this book has blew me away, clearly the author did a lot of detailed research to create a story that has fictional characters but a setting that carries a lot realism and can really transport you.

Black Fox One is an eye-opening story about Germany’s propaganda against the Jews during World War two. But it is also a love story of two people divided by war and hate.

Lies and secrets were the foundations of this war, a war ignited and fed by ignorance and manipulation, and normal people on both sides of the coin suffered. This is the premises of Black Fox One. The author’s empathy and research can be seen on each page as the story came to life and you get to know the SS officer, the “Fuchsjager”.

Ava and Jonas were ripped apart and found each other once more at the height of the war. The chipping down of lies came at a cost, and the questions of which side to choose remained throughout this heartfelt story.

“They lied to me…they lied right to my face. My teachers, my comrades, they all lied to me!” Jonas Amsel said.

Black Fox One, the moniker of a fierce leader, brings the suffering of the Jewish people's home. The entire team of black foxes was a menace in the German army and one they void to destroy at all costs.

“You’re a loyal SS man, an Aryan. Don’t forget your nation, no matter what happens. At the end of the day, Germany must come first. Deutschland Über Alles!” Dieter Amsel.

With two goals on his mind, the one, to find his one true love and own a “Ehrenring”, Jona, a national socialist’s mind, was set on the task at hand. Not knowing what will happen when he continues. But when Jonas was confronted with a different truth he believed, he had to make a choice.

Since this book is written from Jonas’ perspective alone, it was difficult to know Ava’s thoughts. Yet I could summarize that she had a difficult time in the time they were apart. Though she had to be bitter, I found her endearing character relatable. She knew who she was and made no excuses for it. Her quiet and even sometimes explosive nature was a powerful beacon for Jonas’s character. If not for her gentle tutoring on a somewhat unconventional way, Jonas would have stayed lost.

The strong bond of love is an ever-present string that holds it together.

The writing is clear and to the point. The descriptions lively as the author shows the story in apt ways. Adding additional dimensions to a very harsh time in our history.

“I was lied to, he thought, and in the name of that lie he had killed. Murdered. Nausea took hold of him, and he almost collapsed. He was angry. Angry at his father who had lied to him, at the nation which had lied to him, at the lying system he had served.”

It's hard to say a series gets better with each book. Especially when I think all of Elyse Hoffman's books are unique in their own ways. But this series is turning into something that I feel is superb. This authors way of writing and presenting historical fiction lends more flavour to her work.

This particular book concentrates on the 'Butcher of Prague', Reinhard Heydrich. It also introduces the reader to two characters who are new to this series. Ava and Jonas. They are childhood sweethearts. Their families are members of the Nazi party. As Jonas plans to propose, Ava and her family disappear. Jonas blames the Jews and as the years unfold, he becomes known as the Black Fox Hunter. The Black Foxes are Jewish rebels. He is given a task that will change everything for him. He just doesn't know it yet!

A World War 2 story that is yet another immersive and captivating one from Elyse Hoffman. Her characters find their way into your heart as you follow them through the book. Saying that, though, not every character endears themselves to me. This is World War 2, and there are characters who are unredeemable. It's a thrilling story that consumed me as I read, just like the previous book in this series.

I do appreciate how the author takes a character and sends them down a path that seems to be taking them the wrong way. Then the love, strength, and bravery of those characters lets them grasp at redemption. She always manages to tug on my heartstrings with whichever book I am reading at the time.

Another historical fiction book that had me burning the midnight oil! I am looking forward to Elyse Hoffman's next book! Thanks to The Write Reads for asking me to tag along and gifting the book for my review.

First I want to thank NetGalley, Elyse Hoffman, and Project 613 Publishing for an ARC of this book. I read it of my own free will.

I liked the idea of this book. They have both been best friends since they were kids but then one day things change. What I didn’t expect was to read the German/Nazi side of things in such detail.

It is written so you appreciate the struggle the German citizens felt. However, Jonas was like super proud he served under Hitler and as an SS for over half of the book. It was during his time right after he meets Black Fox One that the book slows down a lot.

You read some heart breaking things that happened during WW2 and some are pretty terrible and you start to see him struggle with his beliefs but it was also during that time that I struggled with the book. It was hard to read him question what they are telling him and his own personal battles within.

Overall a good story but one I will never really read again. As for those who read my reviews and appreciate it when I give warnings. This comes with a few. There are about 15 f words, mention of some very violent acts, characters who are proud of what they did to hurt Jews, and a smidge of sexual statements.

I think the question Can love change your beliefs? encompasses the main theme on this book, can love open your eyes and make you see you've been lied to and change your whole life?
This is book three of the Project 613 series, and even though it can be read as a standalone I wouldn't recommended, there are a lot of details and back stories on this book that are better understood if you read the other books on the series before starting this one.
Jonas and Avalina are childhood friends that when grown up become a couple and inseparable, both of them as well as their families are Social Nationalists believers, to the point that Ava wants Jonas to join the SS as his father did, life is perfect for them until Avalina and her family disappear on the day that Jonas is going to propose to Ava, what happened to them?
Black Fox One has been a thorn on the side of the SS and the Nazis with operations that rescues jewish people and gets them out of danger, but who is Black Fox One? Jonas is tasked by his SS superior to find Black Fox One but when he finds this elusive person he gets the surprise of his life.
From then on, he has to live a double life and slowly gets to change his whole life around by the sheer power of love.
I have loved all of Elyse Hoffman books and this one is not the exception, she makes reading even the most horrific acts interesting and engaging.
I can't wait to tread the following book on the series.

The friendship of Jonas Amsel and Avalina Keller started in Germany of 1927. But she had a funny nickname for him. She did not call him by his given name, as children sometimes do. Their friendship grew as they got older, they fell in love. As time approached and he was going to propose to Ava. Her and her whole family just dissappeared. Not knowing where she has gone, he decided to serve in the Nazi Party as an SS man. As his father had done for years and years too. His mother was lost to him at the time of his birth. So it just seemed right to follow in his fathers footsteps.

Although, he was given the task of being "Fox Hunter". The Black Foxes were a anti Nazi group. He agreed in hopes of being able to find Ava, the love of his life. Elyse Hoffman did an amazing reasearch for this book. It is a part of history I never totally understood and now I do. Such a hard life to be German and Jewish in this time era.

The reason I wanted to read this book is I have a love for history, all history. I recommend you read this novel and learn more of the history we all have wondered about.

Each book in this series just gets better and better. Black Fox One is particularly intriguing because it centers around Reinhard Heydrich, the Butcher of Prague. A few characters from the previous books make an appearance but this story features two new ones, Ava and Jonas, childhood sweethearts.

Eventually, Jonas must face a reckoning regarding the Nazi lies he has believed and acted on as an SS officer. I was struck by how similar it was to cult indoctrination that we've become familiar with now. There are some truly horrific accounts in this story but how could there not be? Things wrapped up nicely in the end, not for Heydrich, of course, and I am ready for the next book in the series!

Many thanks to NetGalley for the digital ARC. All opinions and the review are my own.

This amazing novel is a historical fiction that follows the story of Jonas Amsel and Avalina Keller. Ava since they were children, wants nothing more than to marry her and start a family. When he is about to propose, Ava and her entire family vanish without a trace. Jonas blames the Jews for Ava's disappearance and throws himself into a career in the Nazi Party.
He serves the Reich under the ruthless Chief of the Gestapo, Reinhard Heydrich. Jonas becomes particularly good at capturing members of the Black Foxes, an anti-Nazi resistance group, earning Heydrich's respect.
Rest you'll have to read.
This book is a rollercoaster of emotions and you'll love evey second of it. If you've read "A thousand splendid suns" and loved it, THIS BOOK IS FOR YOU.
The book was great and the characters were so easy to love. The writers writing style was admirable and I loved the world building and how she was able to narrate the story in both perspectives.
Highly recommend it for all the historical fiction readers.

After reading the first story in this series last month, I was really intrigued to read the next book. We're introduced to new characters, Ava and Jonas, childhood friends in love, who are devoted to the Nazi party. When Ava and her family disappear, Jonas blames the Jews and makes it his mission to hunt down the rebels, The Black Foxes.

Tasked with capturing the most deadly operative, Black Fox One, finding Ava is still at his heart. He makes some disturbing discoveries on this journey and must choose between what he has believed to be true his whole life and what his heart shows before him now.

This is not an easy read; we all know the innocence of humanity is destroyed by war, and while the characters are not all likable, they are captivating. I was so drawn to their stories. Hoffman has written another gripping historical read with redemption at its core.

Thank you RR Book Tours for the ARC and the opportunity to be on this tour.

This is the second book by Elyse Hoffman I've read and it's just like the first book, something I would not normally read. Because of the first book, The Vengeance of Samuel Val, which is book two in the project 613 series, I decided to read this book as well when I got the opportunity via Netgalley. I received a copy from Project 613 Publishing and it'll be out on the 1st of November.

In this book we follow Jonas Amsel and Avalina Keller who are a couple before the war. Both Jones and Avalina and their families are devout Nazis and completely agree with this ideology. Jones and Ava are engaged when suddenly Ava and her family disappear. Jonas completely submerges himself into the Nazi regime under the command of Heydrich and becomes the Fox Hunter hunting down Black Foxes. He is tasked with finding Black Fox One, the most deadly and mysterious Fox.

I'm not normally into these stories but, because of the previous book I've read, I've come to appreciate books regarding this subject. The characters are described really well and they absolutely carry the story. The story itself is quite impressive and you only wish for it to have been true. Once you start this book you cannot put it down because you need to know where the story goes, how it evolves and where it will end. I'm curious to read the third book in this Project 613 series.

Since this book related to characters in two previous books, I read them first. I have to say that each one was well written and did help in getting to know the characters. This third part was gripping, and when I finally finished I was not only surprised it pleased with the book. I could not put this down.

“The world was wrong about witches, about the sun revolving around the earth, and yes, they’re wrong about Jews.”

Black Fox One is the latest in Elyse Hoffman’s series of World War II novels and follows The Vengeance of Samuel Val which I adored. This book tells the story of Jonas and Ava, who, having been friends since childhood become lovers as they get older, with plans to marry. Jonas has a promising career in the SS and Ava is a talented gymnast destined to represent Germany at the Olympics. Their planned out future is disrupted when Jonas finds Ava and her family have been kidnapped.

My love for historical fiction is pretty well documented on my bookstagram so I need not reiterate that here, but needless to say, Hoffman’s books are right up my street. I read Black Fox One over two evenings. Despite the heavy background, with detail of SS atrocities, the writing is fast-paced and flows so well that’s it’s easy to read it quite quickly. Hoffman establishes her main characters so swiftly and so effectively, that my emotional investment is there pretty much immediately. Ava is a strong female protagonist that I was rooting for straight away.

I felt that this book did not surprise me as much as Samuel Val’s story, but that did not diminish my enjoyment at all. Aside from the gripping plot and formidable characters, Hoffman has succeeded once again in delivering an important message with this latest work of historical fiction. I am thoroughly enjoying the Project 613 series of books and cannot wait for the next instalment, Adiel and the Führer.

Many thanks to @tide.phoenix.coffee for the advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I received this book for free and am leaving this review voluntarily.

The story was unique and a fascinating twist on WWII novels. I loved how both sides were represented, even though at first I was frustrated to hear about how great the Nazi’s were. I then realized how perfectly I was
set up for Jonas’ deep introspection into Jewry and the powerful change that came over him. Well played.

Do you follow your heart or your family? Where do your loyalties lie? Could you turn your back on everything you’ve ever known for love?

“Your love for her was more powerful than your hate for Jews. For that, no matter what else you’ve done, I’m proud of you.”

The only thing that kept me from giving this a 5 was the language. I don’t think the F was necessary so much. Just a personal preference- but I don’t think it felt authentic to the time period.

I enjoy reading books of WWII Era. This story is about Jonas and Ava, 2 German children growing up and wanting to fight for the Germans, believing, as told by everyone, that jews are bad. When they are about to be engaged Ava disappears along with her whole family. This is an engaging story of lost love and the long road of redemption.

This was R&R’s very last historical fiction, so I am honored to have been a part of reviewing it!
However, my review is late due to all 3 of my kids being sick so with that being said PLEASE PLEASE to all of my bookish mamas be careful this RSV season. It is nasty this year. Alright, onto the review.

This was my first historical fiction/romance and honestly I loved it. I remember learning about WWII in school and being so heartbroken about the events that lead up to it. So this book being based off of that time period really tugged at my heart strings a bit.

I hadn’t read any of Hoffman’s work prior to this so I went into this without the background of the Black Foxes (a resistance group that freed many Jewish people from the Nazis). However, I had no trouble diving right in.

I will say this is written in 3rd person and I know a lot of people cannot stand 3rd person, I used to be one of them but it has been growing on me as of lately. I think it is genre specific for me tbh and the way Hoffman writes this is really just *chefs kiss*

I never really forgot about what I had learned in school regarding WWII but this book genuinely made me want to dive into a rabbit hole of research and read more on the topping. Hoffman REALLY knows her history, especially around this time. She was able to write this from both perspectives, Jewish and German which I found very impressive.

There were parts that were hard to read, I will say that. But ultimately the book was GREAT. I always love me a good childhood best friends to lovers trope anyway. Which is exactly what this book is about. This book also puts a great deal of focus on redemption/repentance which I enjoyed as well.

The ending did catch me off guard though but I didn’t dislike it, I am a fantasy reader so I actually loved it and it went hand in hand with one of the last chapters. (Read it and you’ll see what I am talking about)

Again this was my first historical fiction and I promise it will not be my last.
I recommend, but remember I did mention it is based in the events leading up to WWII so AGAIN there ARE some parts that are rough to read.

For a long time I have only read historical fiction for certain periods mostly the English Renaissance or medieval settings but I have to say Elyse Hoffman’s novels set in such a turbulent and terrible time in modern history have really captivated me. I think the thing I am drawn to the most is the way she is able to show the humanity and morality, both the good and the bad, of the characters.

Her characters are always well fleshed out and realistic. I was particularly surprised by how Hoffman managed to bring Reinhard Heydrich and his vileness to life yet still managed to show that tiny touch of humanity in the character as well. But I have to say the original characters are completely rounded and captivating. I adored Ava who was strong and fierce but shows moments of weakness as well. She was most definitely a favourite but I have to say, despite myself so was Jonas. I loved how self-aware he was when he slowly realised just how much the hate and propaganda of the Third Reich had tainted people’s views. The fact he knew he would not earn trust easily and shouldn’t do was refreshing to see in a redemption arc of a character and a testament to Hoffman’s writing.

Speaking of the writing, Hoffman brings the past to life in such a vivid way that you are transported back to the time and place and it is not romanticised at all. The plight and terror of characters is captured perfectly and as I already said the characters both good and evil are given personality and complexity thanks to Hoffman’s writing style. The pacing is perfect for the novel. I never like to spoil a book but towards the end I was really on the edge of my seat hoping it would end well. I actually finished this in one sitting because I needed to know what happened, not just to Jonas and Ava but the other characters.

If you enjoy stories with complex relationships, about bravery and the sacrifices made by the people during World War two as well as the long hard road to redemption you will love Black Fox One and a lot of Hoffman’s other work too. I have to say I am hooked.

I want to start off by saying that I received complimentary ebook arc. In return for my honest thoughts and review. This is the second book that I have read from this author. Just like The Vengeance of Samuel this book didn’t disappoint. I always enjoy a short and packed historical fiction and romance. When I do read books about WW2 at times they are hard to get through. I felt like I was down there with Jonas has hearing these people terrible stories.
When Jonas was in the his and Ava hiding spot. A little beat up boy comes in and tells Jonas that his father turn him and his mother in. For them being Jewish. The father started a new family. Because the father wasn’t Jewish. That is going to be with this kid forever. I loved Jonas heart and how he was listening to the people being rescued.
I felt so sorry for these two Ava who always grew up believing she was always something else. Jonas always believing the people around him. Jonas unaware of the terrible things that were going on in the SS army. He truly believe that he and his father were doing the right thing. How many lies Jonas has suffered through once he realized the truth.
This book is amazing but it will pull at your heart. Just has it mine. I am definitely continuing to read more books from this author. Her books are short but they are packed. I highly recommend this book. These characters will be ones I don’t forget. I have end this review by saying that. Ava is a strong woman. She loved Jonas enough to help him. When he thought everything he knew wasnt what it seemed.
About Book:
Ava and Jonas grew up only believing that they were going to be successful SS. Never knowing each other was different. Until one day Ava goes missing. Before Jonas could surprise her. Years go by and Jonas is still looking for his love.
When Jonas is requested to find the Black fox who is rescuing Jews. He uncovers and different world and understanding. That he himself couldn’t believe.
Thank you to Henry Roi Booktours and the author for the opportunity to read a heart and tragic story.

Growing up in late 1920s Germany, Jonas wants two things. To marry his best friend and the love of his life, Ava, and follow in his father's footsteps and get a good job in the SS. Jonas works hard and finally joins his father in a logistics role, however, before he can propose to Ava, her entire family disappear.
Determined to find out what happened he climbs the ranks of the SS by tracking down the Black foxes, a resistance group helping to smuggle Jews to safety. Jonas is responsible for the capture of some high value black foxes and is rewarded with the title of The Fox Catcher. Now he is tasked with the capture of Black Fox One, the second highest ranking Black Fox, who has been behind the rescue of so many and been a complete embarrassment to the SS. The only way to get close to this illusive group is to go deep undercover in the hopes of infiltrating their ranks. While spending time among the black foxes he is forced to face some uncomfortable truths. When the stakes are so high, who can you really trust?!
This is an amazing read. So harrowing and packed with tension. Completely engrossing but it will rip out your heart.

In the last 15 days I haven’t read any HF or Holocaust books. This is the first book I’m reading today is called “Black Fox One” by Elyse Hoffman. She did it again! Elyse is a master a great storyteller, who well researches her books. I thoroughly enjoyed her writing style as always and wouldn’t be the last one. This is an HF and are very heart-wrenching, and action-packed. You’ll get to know about young Ava and Jonas, as a childhood friend and watch their relationship bloom. There’s a twist, confusion, separation, heartbreak, and redemption. As a result, what had happened to them in the end? You can decide.

This book is the third in a series, and it follows on from The Vengeance of Samuel Val which I recently read. Black Fox One does work perfectly well as a standalone novel. There are a couple of the characters from the previous book who put in an appearance but knowing their backstory is not vital to the plot.

Elyse did it again. This historical fiction was phenomenally written, heart-wrenching, and action-packed. You start out with a young Ava and Jonas and watch as their relationship blooms. There's confusion, separation, heartbreak, and an amazing redemption. Truly a wonderful story, I cannot wait to read more.

This is my first book by the author and of that genre. The storyline was interesting and did keep me interested at times. If you’re into historical fiction you might want to give this a chance but please be sure of triggers. Some of the topics explored were a bit difficult for me. But it might be a book for you.

The love story between Ava and Jonas is unforgettable. It is sweet and sad and real, and I wished I could read more and more. Elyse Hoffman is quite the storyteller - I read this book in a sitting. Black Fox One has everything I needed for a cozy read: romance of the ages, a terrifying villain, action, and characters that will stay with me long after I finished the book. (A side note is that the name Avalina may be a new favorite of mine.) I love historical fiction, and WW2 stories may always have a special place in my heart. This was a good one!

Elyse Hoffman is a fantastic author. This is the second book I've read from them, and I felt like I was there. Honestly, I'll read anything about World War 2. I love history, and this subject has so much to unpack. I highly suggest you pick this one up guys!!

Very thoughtful & unable-to-put-down novel and pleased that evil was beaten eventually by goodness. Very easy to understand where ordinary people can be easily BRAIN WASHED by a group who grabbed power by threats etc.
