Not Quite Alone is a poetic masterpiece that delves deep into the complexities of the human experience. This poetry book written by Tasha Lim is a fascinating journey through the labyrinth of emotions, thoughts and experiences that shape our lives. Many of the poems were written during the COVID19. Most of you can relate to them if you read this book because I do.

The collection is divided into three sections, each exploring a distinct facet of the human condition, the journey, the poet and the illustrator. This poetry book sounds like a personal diary of the author. Tasha Lim skillfully navigates through a spectrum of feelings and topics, making Not Quite Alone a multifaceted exploration of the human soul.

The words are beautifully written and some leave me with deep emotions and even evoke vivid imagery. Whether you are an avid poetry reader or a novice, you’ll find these poems accessible, yet rich in their layers of meaning. The verses are both relatable and heartrending. The author makes it easy for readers to connect with her words on a personal level.

This poetry book is well-organized and I feel cozy just by reading all the poems. Tasha Lim, I relate to you a lot!

In conclusion, Not Quite Alone is a remarkable collection of poetry that captures the essence of the human experience. Not Quite Alone is a worthy addition to your collection. Read this book.

This book is the definition of cozy, calm, and quiet poetry. I don’t know how, but the author did a great job writing the poems. I feel so related, exposed unexpectedly by her words. I do keep some things that burn me in my heart, but the author managed to express them in the poems. It feels like all my unsaid words are spoken out. The burden in my heart suddenly felt like it had been lifted up. That’s how I can describe my feelings when reading this amazing book.

When the author mentioned in her diary of the pandemic dates, from the year 2020, I had a flashback of the life I had in that year. I remember everyone and everywhere was so hectic. Panic because of covid. And day by day, the time passed, till that ‘new life’ became one with us. For about 3 years, our world was suddenly on pause. The sea no longer swallows rubbish, the streets are no longer decorated with trash, and the animals no longer live in fear. They are out living their lives like they are supposed to. Humans stayed at home, doing what they could. They get to do and see what they’ve missed doing when they hustled for work before the pandemic hits. Even some get the chance to be a better person that year. And some have no chance to get away from what hurts them the most.

Not only did the author mention the pandemic, but also love life. I’m a sucker for love. I’m the hopeless romantic girl who loves to read and is attracted to learn anything about love. Therefore, when there’s poems related to love, I devour it deeply. Because who doesn’t like being loved & loving? Oh my, not to forget, I love the rhythm in the author’s poem. The poems rhyme so perfectly & I’m impressed! Such great writing!

I highly recommend you to pre order this book because just like the title, you’ll feel Not Quite Alone when reading this book. You’ll not regret reading this book. I’m honored to received this book from @penwingspublishing @penciledwords ,Thank you so so much for this opportunity🥹❤️

review coming tomorrow as part of my book tour with penwings!! <3

edit review:

this is such a quiet read, to be indulged and savoured on a windy cosy summer evening. it whispers in your ears, of melodies you may not be hearing. it is a love letter to life, and living life, and all the small pieces of memories that you sprinkled into others, it is such a beautiful poetry book, like a warm embrace that i didn’t know i was craving.

this poetry book writes on subjects and topics like dealing with covid (really, really relevant, those poems are my favourites 😭) and the darkness and light within ourselves. it gives you hope when you can’t seem to find your torch, and it gives you a beautiful rainbow on a sunny day. i also love how all poems rhyme, it is the cutest thing ever and you will find some cheeky and sweet poems throughout that will make you feel cute and happy.

overall, i really do think poetry books are the hardest to review, because i could only describe how it makes me feel. but like the title, it makes me feel seen, some of my thoughts put into simple yet beautiful words. and more than not, it makes me feel not quite alone. I hope you pick this up and give it a lovely home, for this is one i really enjoy, and it is just what you will need after a long, long day, and for the fighters with longer, longer days ahead. 🤍

Not Quite Alone by Tasha Lim makes us feel as the title intended us to feel. It brings warmth to know there are others out there who relate to the same things as you do, feel the same things you feel and makes us seen.

The poems come in many varieties, of love, loss and the pressure to fit in with the social standards of the world, whether it’s about how you look, how you act or how you decide to live your life. There are many things between these pages that you’ll discover and find yourself saying “I felt that.” It could be about relationships, it could be about life. Out of all the poems I loved the final piece, “Not Quite Alone”, stood out as it should and remains my favourite.

While the poems brought this book to life, the illustrations by Michelle Ling completed it. I loved seeing how the art depicted some of the poems. It’s a mixture of two different art forms, one to see and one to read. Either way, they both make us feel something.

As a lover of fiction novels, I’ve been trying to get into poetry, remembering how much I adored it when I was younger. This book is the perfect solution to my current craving for beautiful words and heartfelt prose, and of course the illustrations that comes with it. Not Quite Alone is the book I’ve been searching for to make me remember my old passions such as poetry and art, and I’m so glad to have stumbled upon it.

Putting out your heart in such a way is a terrifying thing to do (at least for me.) In my opinion Tasha Lim is very brave and not fearful to show everyone who she is, and I’m looking forward to reading her future works.

Tasha Lim’s Not Quite Alone is a heartwarming collection of poems that speaks to the souls of young adults, but its themes resonate with readers of all ages. As we all faced the impact of the pandemic in 2020, the loneliness and isolation that came with it could be overwhelming. Tasha Lim skillfully captures these emotions in her poetry, offering a comforting embrace to anyone who has felt the weight of solitude.

One of the standout features of this book is how each poem weaves into the next, forming a cohesive narrative that takes us on a journey alongside the poet. From the moment the world shut its borders, and the streets fell silent, to the complex dynamics of relationships, family, and loved ones, Lim’s words place you squarely in her shoes.

What truly enhances my experience with this book is the inclusion of illustrations that mirror the emotional journey. They transition from indifference to darkness and finally, to a glimmer of hope, creating an interactive and visually striking experience that lets you see the poet’s emotions come to life on the pages. Swipe right for a glimpse of my favourite annotated poems!

The beauty of poetry lies in its ability to evoke emotions rather than intellectualize them. Not Quite Alone provides a delightful escape for those moments when you simply need to immerse yourself in those feelings.

It's been a long time since I last read poetry. I can never get enough of Tasha Lim’s Poetry and Prose in Not Quite Alone. The writing truly captures our emotions and is very much relatable with us. All this while, I have been looking for the right words to define how I felt throughout the Covid’s era until today and finally, Tasha Lim has written the best poetry to resonate our feelings.

I have so many favourite poems in this book and one that really stood out is “Mother”. Mother’s love truly knows no bounds especially during the hardest year of our life. Each of the poems written points out what we are facing as an individual and in society. It is very descriptive to the extent that my mind could play out the phases we have been through in daily life.

A poem that is raw, expressive, heartfelt, gives a smile on my face and I am very much in love with every minute of my reading. I know I will come back to this book again and again and I could not recommend enough to my siblings and friends to read this remarkable poetry and prose. It will carve deep in my heart forever.

Overall, I’m thankful for the existence of this poetry and prose. As the title says, Not Quite Alone and that says it all. It is truly beautiful poetry.

Many of the poems touched my heart and soul more than I expected! I've tabbed quite a few to revisit.

It feels so comfortable and emotional to read this. Some of them were relatable and hit close to home; others gave me joy for similar reasons. This book brought out emotions I had forgotten I felt. It made me feel so understood and seen. You can really see what the author went through with her choice of words. It was really descriptive and personal.

This book covers important topics such as loneliness (especially during Movement Control Order -Covid 19), heartbreak, being strong and learning to love yourself. It almost felt like a journey reading it. It's a perfect read if you are going through a hard time and your heart needs healing.

The poetry book by Tasha Lim is almost a time leap portal to 3 years ago when the world as we know it changed forever. At a time of insecurity, strife, loneliness and isolation, humanity lived through the pandemic, an unfamiliar frontier where we were cooped up in our own homes. However, the outlook of the book is a positive one where the poet takes us on a journey of reflection and gratitude while delving into the pits of desperation and darker thoughts that may have surfaced as we recovered from the tough times. The book also touches on a range of relationships we may have or had; the ones we loved, the ones we lost, and the ones that were lost in transition.

The poetry book shows a very interesting contrast in the way it was arranged and illustrated. The graphic imagery of the pages lends itself to the reading experience and the poems that are featured. It begins with a stark white, which is a striking juxtaposition with how grave the situation was at the start of the pandemic. As the book progresses, the pages grow grayer and darker until eventually, they hit pitch black, representing the spiralling mind and perhaps the loss of our zest for life. The artistic style is certainly commendable, and it suited the tone of the poetry nested within.

Tasha Lim put into words my very inner thoughts and workings so expertly. I truly felt that it resonated with my personal healing journey, as until the start of this year, things truly felt bleak and unpromising, only spiralling for the worst. It took a lot of acceptance, and getting back to the way things were before the pandemic was an uphill battle. As the pages eventually grew brighter with every flip towards the back, the symbolism was not missed as it radiated hope and the message of accepting ourselves as we are, our failures and shortcomings included.

This book will be on sale TOMORROW, 18th October 2023! For all of you who may feel that you’ll never be the same since before 2020, know that you are not quite alone.

Not quite alone is filled with passionate angst and relatable issues we are forced to deal with day by day. Often put under the burner, Tasha's poems provided me a warm perspective on issues we don't talk about; like outgrowing family customs, the predictability and hollowness of an organized modern society, and petty arguments within the self. Reading it, well, makes you feel not quite alone. It was such a joy to read.

Tasha’s heartfelt words mirror our individual and collective consciences, and serve as a relatable portrait and poetic narrative to our various struggles in love, relationships, and life. It was thoroughly enjoyable to delve into the depths of her deep ruminations on both personal and societal norms. It almost felt wrong, like stealing a peek into her diary, but the charm of knowing you are rightly ‘not quite alone’ after reading Tasha’s bewitching words keeps you going.
