Out of Uniform #3.5

Mijn verleidelijke ex

Rate this book

This was a steamy little number that took me a little under two hours to finish. At just under 80 pages it's definitely a shorty but it also packs some heat. A sexy Marine and a sassy heroine who have been having an on again off again fling for years are now both back in the small town they grew up in. But this time, Warren wants more than just a hot secret hook-up. He wants something more, he just has to convince the skittish Erin that it's what she wants too.

Erin has always had a thing for Warren. But she also knows that she can't have anything with him either. He's a Marine that may be deployed any day, and she's a failed broadway actress that's back home living with her mom and dad to lick her wounds. But what started with a sexy game of truth-or-dare, may also lead to something much more when Warren gives her a dare she has no hope of backing down from.

His to Take was a quick read that I read in one sitting. I love Katee's writing and I'm a big fan of her Out of Uniform series. Unfortunately, as my thing with most short novellas, it just didn't offer enough for me to truly be satisfying. It was a nice little appetizer, but I would have loved a full meal if you catch my drift. I have a hard time with short novellas as they just don't grab be as much as a longer book may. It's not long enough for me to truly get invested in the characters. But I do have to say, I was invested enough in Erin and Warren's story. It was an enjoyable read, albeit a short one. If you're looking for a quick and steamy read for the holidays, His To Take is the perfect contender.

3.5 Truth or Dare Stars
* * * 1/2 Spoiler Free/Free Now on Amazon!
Katee Roberts has been having a solid run of books with Entangled Brazen. In this entry, we are given a shortie which packs a punch of two people who have danced around being together for 6 years.

Erin Robinson had dreams in her eyes from the start. She never let the "pregnancy crazy" of her mom naming her the same name as her brother get her down...I mean come on, Mom... Aaron and then your daughter Erin???

But that was just one of the things Erin rose above...Being a Mini-Me to her big brother only spurred her on...or at least that was what she let them think, year after year as she was plugging away in New York trying to make it on Broadway.

We meet her during the Christmas season when once again she is home...except this time... it is not the usual overnight and then out of here...it is a I need to figure out my life because I lost my job and apartment stay...which could mean way longer than her usual. Her family has not said anything to their friends out of respect to Erin...she couldn't bear to see the oh, too bad looks...Because in small towns, nothing is kept quiet.

As Erin was waiting for a blind date no show her mom fixed her up with, Warren Davis watched. He had had a thing for Erin for years...and both of them couldn't seem to stop an annual hit it and quit it for the past 6 years. Warren was at a juncture; after doing a number of tours of duty and the last causing a bullet which could have ended his life...he has come to the realization he wants more....

More living...
More caring for someone...
More Erin....for good this time.

When Warren comes to Erin at the bar...he has a game plan in mind...She has no idea of what he really wants... Warren never wanted anything serious; he traveled, had a bit of wanderlust like his parents and he also loved this small town. Sure, being with him was the best Erin ever had... and yes, she thought about him during their times away....but there couldn't be anything...she was at her lowest right now... what would she have to offer this man....

What we get in this book is one of the hottest Truth or Dare plays over an evening with these two... what starts out innocent between two friends who have had benefits becomes much more. There were very sexy times... and also an established history to promote more than lust for them.

Katee Roberts has held her solid record with this novella. It was quick, human and sexy.

3 - "Truth or dare, Freckles?" Stars.

The second novella in the Out of uniform series offers up a quick and dirty Christmas getting together.

Erin and Warren have been operating on a friends with bennies type scenario over the years, in that when they are both in town, they hook up. And they were both pretty happy with the scenario, but for Warren things have changed over the last year due to a few things that have happened in his life since they were last together, that have forced him to re-evaluate the direction he is going. Now Warren wants more, and he is not looking to accept ’no’ for an answer. Little does he know that a few things have changed for Erin since they were last together as well.

”I don’t know who you’ve been kissing in the last year but they
obviously haven’t been doing it right.”

I found His to Take an average sort of read, Erin and Warren didn’t really offer up anything different or new, in relation to the previous characters and stories that the author has bought us in the series, and I definitely preferred the earlier novella His to Keep in comparison.

”You’re something else.”

But the sexy-times were plentiful and the ending sweet, and it only took a couple of hours to read, so ideal if you are looking for a little break from all the seasonal madness.

As a Brazen girl junkie, I adore and love reading books by Katee Robert. I have always found her stories to have a perfect blend of sweetness, sexiness, friendship, sexual tension, sass and romance. And in this last final installment of the Out Of Uniform Series, Ms. Robert once again had me addicted and left me smiling. She definitely knows how to keep her reader's hearts fluttering with a tangible and palpable love story and in His to Take was a perfect example of a romance that had the right blend of steam, sexiness, and emotions.

His To Take chronicles two friends who shared a history of hookups. When Warren Davis got injured in war, it made him realized that Erin Robinson was the girl that he wanted to be his side. The girl that he wanted to call his girlfriend. As circumstance would have it, Erin happened to be back in town and this time Warren was going to stop at nothing to get the girl. So it was only a matter of time for these two to finally realize the truth... and the truth was that these two had an intense chemistry and bond like no other. So will Erin take Warren on his dare and trust that he will protect her heart and stand by her side?

#HisToTake

Ahhh...it's a bittersweet feeling to say goodbye to the cast of characters that Ms. Roberts had introduced her readers in the Out of Uniform Series. I can happily attest that each book in the series was sinfully hot, sexy, sweet and had their own undertones of a touching storyline. So if you are looking for enemies to lovers, best friends to lovers, falling for best friend's brother, two broken characters finding healing and love, or two friends realizing that love is about taking that dare, then I highly recommend you to read Out of Uniform Series by Katee Robert. And trust me when I say be prepared to get hooked and addicted to Katee Robert and her books.

Sweet holiday read!

It’s not really friends-with-benefits type of relationship, but I guess close enough. Once in a while, for 6 years, they hook up. It started from when they were in school, then whenever they’re in town as adults. And of course it happened again when Erin returned with her tail b/w her legs, so to speak, to move back to town, and Warren too, as usual, for the holidays.

It feels like this is short even for a Brazen read, and I wished it was just a tad longer, then I think I would have enjoyed it more. It didn’t give me enough time to really feel the connection b/w Erin and Warren. Not that it’s not there, but I would have bought it more, that’s all. Obviously, there’s something b/w those 2 for them to keep coming back to each other, I just wished I saw more.

Otherwise, like I said, it’s a short sweet holiday read to while the time away.

His to Take by Katee Robert
Book 3.5 of the Out of Uniform series
Publisher: Brazen
Publication Date: December 7, 2015
Rating: 4 stars
Source: eARC from NetGalley

Summary (from Goodreads):

Truth or dare...

Erin Robinson is having an epically bad year. Her blossoming career on Broadway tanked, forcing her to crawl back to home to Wellington. The icing on her failure cake? Her former on-again, off-again fling is in town, and the sexy Marine is taking up way too much space.

Warren Davis always knew Erin was special, which is exactly why he can't have her. A girl like her deserves something permanent--something neither of them wants. But now that they're both back in town and she's right there in front of him, a challenge in her eyes he's never been able to resist, he's questioning everything.

That challenge quickly escalates into an epic game of Truth or Dare. Erin's sure she's got him on lock, but as the night progresses, Warren's dares intensify, drowning her in lust. But with the past still breathing down their necks, there's no way either of them can win…

What I Liked:

This novella consisted of exactly what a good novella should consist of - engaging story, great character development despite the length of the story, and for a romance novella one or two HOT scenes. I know I can always trust Katee Robert to right a really steamy romance!

Erin Robinson is back in Wellington, unfortunately. She was fired from her job in New York, and she's also homeless. Six years ago she left Wellington with no intentions of ever coming back, yet here she is. Warren Davis knows something is up when he sees Erin for the first time in a year. The two of them share a really steamy history, but nothing beyond sex. Warren wants to change this - but is Erin looking for more as well?

This is a novella, so it's really short. It took me less than an hour to read this story. But I really enjoyed it. It takes place over two days. Erin was stood up on a date, and Warren sees her by herself. They start a game of Truth or Dare, which quickly takes a steamy turn... or several.

Warren is exactly the type of Brazen hero that I like to read about! He's a man in uniform (a Marine, specifically!), he's confident and slightly arrogant, he's got a naughty side, but he's also sure of what he wants. He wants more from Erin, and he's got this whole plan to show her that he wants her for more than just her body. Warren is actually a really sweet and romantic guy, for all his bravado and dirty talk. I love his naughty self.

Erin is a little lost - she's employed, homeless, and seriously reconsidering everything in her life. Should she be trying to reach Broadway? Was New York, and acting, all worth it? Now back in Wellington, Erin isn't sure she believes in herself. But Warren's belief in her means a lot more than she realizes. I love how temperamental and tenacious Erin is - she's also one of those people that rushes into thinks, that puts both feet forward. She's a unique girl, and a likable one.

Warren and Erin have a lot of growing to do, as does their relationship. I love how short and simple this story was, yet how much ground Katee Robert covered in such limited page count. The progression of the relationship was well-written, and it didn't hurt that Warren and Erin already had history!

The romance was also VERY steamy. Warren and Erin have great chemistry. You can count on Robert to write really hot novels! This book is short so there aren't too many steamy scenes, but the ones that are present are really good.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book! I love this series, and this novella was a great addition.

What I Did Not Like:

Obviously I wish this book could have been longer! But it's a novella, so technically I shouldn't complain because it's SUPPOSED to be short. But still!

Would I Recommend It:

If you love Katee Robert's books (which you should), give this novella a shot! If you haven't read anything by Katee Robert (but you're a romance fan)... you need to reevaluate your life! Her Brazen novels are really great, as well as the O'Malley's series, possibly my favorite of hers!

Rating:

4 stars. I usually don't care for novellas, but I liked this one. I'll read anything Katee Robert writes, and it's no surprise that I enjoyed this story.

If you’re looking for a short and sexy festive fix, then the second novella in Katee Robert’s Out of Uniform series is that. Warren and Erin are a likeable couple with history and together they generate plenty of heat.

“Truth or dare, Freckles.”

Whilst I can say I enjoyed His to Take, it doesn’t really bring anything new to the table and one of those books that I’ve read and will have forgotten about in a couple of weeks. But, if you have an hour or two to spare and fancy some steaminess, it hits the spot.

3 Freckles

Erin Robinson returns to her Wellington home with her tail between her legs, having been cast off from her latest theatrical stint. She’s unsure of what the future holds, but in her immediate eyeline, she spots her go to sheet ruffler, Warren Davis, who is back in town and on the prowl.

Marine Warren is back in town following a thought provoking incident, and is gunning after Erin, his go to bed warmer. Feeling she deserves more, he battles with any likely future they may have together.

This has been an entertaining series, with an agreeable balance of story, humour and steam.

This condensed offering gave us the latter, without much of the former, albeit still an enviable way to waste a couple of hours.

Katee writes to arrest you, and I was still able to submerge myself, even for that shorter period.

Each of these novellas is a stand alone read, and I was looking forward to a quick and hot romance, so I picked it up.
It didn't disappoint either! It was so hot and a lot of fun! You knew theat Erin and Warren were just meant to be.
So I will warn you that it has graphic sexual content.
It's spicy to say the least. For being such a small story it had a big impact. I will definitely read more from this author!
Has a cute Christmas element too!
Romance fans will really love this one!

This was a cute, short hot read! I read another book in this series but not I order and I didn't feel like I was missing out on anything. This was a novella and the series and I gobbled it up in one sitting. I would of liked it have seen more of them down the road but I know they got a happy ending so all was right in the world.

This is the story of a lost women named Erin and equally lost man named Warren. Both were trying to find them selves and answer the age old question " what now?" They both ended up back in their small home town where everyone knows everything about everyone. Erin is struggling with being back home and feeling like she has failed somewhere along the way. Warren wants to be back home, and after a close call he has put things into perspective. He knows what he wants and it's Erin, now he just has to convince her to give them a fair shot.

Erin and warren have known each other for most of their lives, and over the years they have dabbled in some friends with benefits but it's never been anything more then some sexy hot times. But if warren has anything to say about it, that won't be the case for much longer. This begins the start of one of their favorite games, Truth or Dare. Neither one can turn down a challenge and as the night goes in the game gets naughtier and naughtier. All I'm gonna say is, I wish I was in a shed alone with warren if that's the kind of dare he is doling out! Read this book for that part alone. Mmm mmm mmmm

I definitely want to continue on with this series and I may even go back and fill in the ones I missed out one. I recommend this series to anyone who's ever wondered just how sinful a game of truth or dare can get with a sexy military man.

3 / 5 ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️
2.5 / 5 🌶 🌶 .5
Spicy chapters: 1, 5, 8, 9

Its a short story / novella. A quick read about Erin FMC and Warren MMC 📚

Tropes:
Second chance romance.
"Enemies to lovers" - kind of
Small town romance

Erin and Warren argue and bicker a lot, especially at the beginning of the story. I sometimes enjoy this fiesty exchange of words when it's well done and justified. However, imo the two MC's behave pretty childishly by playing "truth or dare" and the first dare that Warren gives Erin is for her to flash her boobs 🍈 🍈 to the town's sheriff 🤨🤦🏼‍♀. I think that if he really liked Erin. He wouldn't want her to show her private parts to other men, or is it just me?

Then, he encourages her on another dare to trespass into someone else's property to get inside a hottub (with him, of course, where they 🌶 )... So...Warren seems to be a bad influence and somewhat a red flag imo.

It's an entertaining read, but let's just say that Warren is not a gentleman, or at least his behavior isn't, even if he seems to be a good guy.

Having said that, "His to take" is well written. I understand that it might not be easy for the author KR to dive deeply into the MC's backgrounds and their previous relationships in such a short book. I appreciate how she kept the story interesting by having the tension and competition-like dynamic.

Happy reading! 📚

I'd probably rate this higher if I wasn't in such a blah mood, tbh-

I love the vibe between Warren and Erin. They made a sport out of Truth and Dare, and they kept challenging each other as well as pushing each other's limits. I would have liked the story to be longer for their relationship to be a little more developed, but at the same time the length worked because Warren and Erin already had history.

Going to say 2.5 because it wasn’t bad, just not for me. They were both immature but resolved it quickly. The sexy parts are always good when it’s Katee Robert. I just found myself skimming through too much internal dialogue of the characters and was a little bit bored

My first Katee Robert read. A novella. Not going to rate it because it wasn't my cup of tea. Both characters are super hot, and both characters like each other and like to have sex, but they also have feelings both can't/won't tell the other one ... sigh. They got it together in the end... Glad it was a novella.

Erin is home, she's telling everyone she's just in between shows, but it's looking a bit more permanent than that. She's lost, feeling like a failure, and now she's been stood up for a date. Warren doesn't recognize this side of Erin, he's a marine home for the holidays, after noticing she's been sitting alone for thirty minutes he has to tease her. After seeing the lack of light in her eyes, Warren knows he has to do something and starting up their old game of truth or dare sounds just right. It might just be the right time to mention his feelings for her have changed in the past year, especially after a scare in the military.

I received this novella about a month ago, in that time I forgot the entire synopsis and that ended up working in my favor. I was pleasantly surprised by this book and absolutely enjoyed the banter between the two main characters. Novellas are notoriously quick reads, we all know that, and there is a fine line between giving too much or too little, Katee Robert gave just enough. Mixed in with the main character's banter is history of their past and descriptions of both Erin and Warren, something I find a lot of novellas lack. I felt like I knew my characters features, personalities, and habits, all while reading their present interactions. I think it's an art to progress a story forward without pausing to give those details. I really liked Warren, I mean really liked him. At one point I might have said out loud, "Girl, if you don't want him I will trade you spots." Reading from his POV made me like him even more, because he wasn't just a man in uniform and old lover, he was charismatic, confident, and had a hidden side of emotions that the reader gets to glimpse before our other main character did. Erin, our female MC, is totally jaded and a bit lost, but Warren brings out this side of her that she put away. She rushes into every situation, but that's what makes this book all the more interesting. Her temper was hilarious and I really liked how she had to re-evaluate how she approaches situation in order to get her happiness.

The book takes place over two days, 95% of it in just one night, however it just works. This one is a lot sexy, but also a lot funny. Katee Robert managed to cover so much in those two nights, the character growth is pretty tremendous, and the relationship transition is just right. I especially appreciated that it wasn't random thing between the MCs, these two had so much history and that really made the situation believable. It also is book 3.5 in the Out of Uniform series, so if you've read the others (which you should), it's some final closure for characters and the small town we've come to know. While this book is short, it packs a lot of punch. Plus, if you're looking for your next steamy read, this totally covers that category. The chemistry between Warren and Erin is totally hot. Katee Robert is a great writer and I definitely suggest any of her series.

REVIEW: 3.75 stars--HIS TO TAKE is installment 3.5 in Katee Robert’s contemporary, adult OUT OF UNIFORM romance series. This is Broadway actor Erin Robinson, and US Marine Warren Davis’s story line. Erin is Aaron Robinson’s sister (His To Keep 1.5). HIS TO TAKE can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty.

Told from dual third person perspectives HIS TO TAKE follows Erin Robinson as she returns home during the Christmas holidays, with her tail tucked between her legs. For ten years Erin has struggled on the Broadway stage and it finally looks like her star is about to shine but when a younger actress is verbally attacked by the director, Erin speaks up and is fired in the process. Returning home to Wellington was never in the cards. Enter Warren Davis, US Marine and Erin’s former teen sweetheart, and a man whose own visit home finds himself drawn to Erin like years before. What ensues is a game of Truth or Dare, where Erin and Warren dare one another to with sexual acts, and reveal the hurt the truth about the real reason they are both in town.

HIS TO TAKE is a quick read (less than 90 pages) about two people given a second chance to reconnect; to fall in love with the one that got away. Katee Robert blends a little bit of humor, heartbreak, romance and love into a storyline perfect for the Christmas holidays. The world building reveals a little bit about their past, their present and what they both want for the future in a storyline that covers approximately twenty-four hours in their life. HIS TO TAKE is an enjoyable holiday novella.

3.5 stars *Many thanks to Entangled Publishing for an ARC of this book via Netgally.

The snow is falling and Christmas bells are ringing as Erin finds herself back in the small town where she grew up. It's not just a brief visit this time as she's out of luck and out of a job. Her lifelong dream of making it big on Broadway came crashing down when she was fired from what was to be a starring role. She's back in town to lick her wounds, recoup, and decide what to do next. Warren Davis is also back in town - for good this time. The ex-marine's injuries will keep him from going back to Afghanistan. He has some decisions of his own to make, and he's decided to make Erin part of his permanent future. Now all he has to do is convince her that it's what she wants too.

Crashed Out takes place mostly over one evening & day as Erin and Warren reconnect. They've been friends with benefits for several years, meeting up when they both happen to be in town and then going their own separate ways. Warren is ready for more - he knows he has one shot at convincing Erin that they are right for each other, that they should take a chance at a permanent relationship. And so, he proposes a game of Truth or Dare that Erin can't refuse. As they spend the night sparring back and forth, traveling around the snowy town, playing out their game, the sparks fly. Who will win this game of Truth or Dare? How great is the cost?

Crashed Out is a short read but it's jam-packed with great scenes - intense, hot, erotic, sweet, funny . . . it's got it all. I couldn't help but get swept up in Warren's game to win Erin's heart. The longer they played, the hotter it got as he knew exactly what buttons to push. Before their game ended, they both learned that sometimes, life hands you lemons. It's your choice what you do with them. Sometimes, you just have to play the hand fate deals you. If you trust enough, love enough, and are willing to take a chance, you just might find what you're looking for. A Must Read!

Saying goodbye to a series you like is hard. His to Take is the conclusion of the Out of Uniform series. Turning every page meant I was closer to saying goodbye to a town and friends I fell in love with. It was wrapped up nicely with the unique Katee Robert signature of both endearing and sexy.

I loved that Warren and Erin have a history. A very sexy filled history. Their little game of truth or dare gives you the necessary detailing to understand and connect with both characters. Their chemistry is hot and although it's a novella, the scenes are packed with just the right amount of heart, heat, and passion.

Like I said before, I loved this series and highly recommend it. When you meet the town of Wellingford, you too will see it as a town with folks you will call home.

This the last book in Katee Robert's Out of Uniform series and this time around its Warren and Erin's turn. So this was a short story and both Warren and Erin are back in their hometown of Wellingford to celebrate Christmas. For Warren its also the time he's decided to stay permanently after finishing his last stint in Afghanistan and for Erin its been permanent for awhile since she got fired from her promising stint in Broadway thus ending her dream. These two have a very passionate past but its always been relegated as a hook up/fling mostly on Erin's part. But this time around Erin's determined not to engage in anything while Warren wants to take their relationship even further. He wants to stay, she feels trapped in her hometown. They can't really solve this with sex can they?

This was really fast paced and entertaining despite the length. Both Erin and Warren have both appeared albeit briefly in the previous books in the series so fans are familiar with them. It also helps with believability how fast their emotions are engaged since they have a past between them. This books was sexy, fun and engaging. Fans of the series will be happy with it and for those who don't really follow the series its a quick lighthearted and entertaining read.

I received an eARC of the book in exchange for an honest review.

This book took all the excitement I had from the blurb and turned into a dud and that just makes me angry.

I have been on a binge of second chance romances – that angst filled communications between two (ex)lovers and their way back to each other somehow currently warms my heart and this book was supposed to have been a part of that binge but it sadly never met my expectations.

On one hand you have a heroine who is back home to lick her wounds and on the other hand you have a Marine with fear of commitment. On the night that they are together, everything comes to head – from their attraction to their inability to move on from each other.

Don’t get me wrong, there isn’t anything wrong with the plot or the writing or even the characters themselves but somehow all of them together never really made an impact on me when I was reading and by the last page, I was thrumming with dissatisfaction – this could have been an amazing romance, one for the stars even *which meant I would have re-read it* but somehow it failed to make a zing and that just made me sad rather than angry by the end of this book.

Erin and Warren had a steamy summer together when they were nineteen. At the end of the summer, she went to New York and he went to the Marines. They have never really gotten over each other and have continued the occasional hook up when they are in the same place. 6 years later, they reconnect for a steamy night at Christmas time.

Due to the length of His to Take, we don't get to know Erin or Warren very well. Their time together is fun and well written, I just wish there was more of it.
The one night we see of Warren and Erin's time together is combustible and the connection they have seems so real. It is easy to understand Erin's fears. I would enjoy getting to see what their story looks like down the road, past the initial re-connection.
