Discusses training, drills, and practice routines for each special team of a football squad, using videotapes, and playing smaller and less-experienced players, and provides practical tips for coaches of high school and younger teams.
I don't write many book reviews but I have to for this one. If you are a parent that is joyfully or reluctantly helping to coach your son (or daughters) youth football (talking American football), buy, read and re-read this book. Make notes. Do exactly what the book says. I repeat, do what the book says. It was ground breaking when I used it in 2004-2007 (my two son's combined were on 3 league championship teams) basically breaking the game down to manageable chunks and covers e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g you need. By the end of the 2nd practice coaching 7-8, 8-9 and 10-11 year olds, I would have the offense running plays perfectly and the defense installed. By the pre-game jamboree every year we were the only team that could effectively run every play in our playbook. Our defense was overwhelming.
Don't be the person who thinks because you played in high school, college or even the Pros, that you understand how to successfully manage a youth football team....and the parents. Get the book. Worth every penny.
Even though I don't coach youth football, I still was able to glean some interesting ideas that were pertinent to the H.S. level. Football is Football after all. Good info.
