Some friends you owe everything. Some come to collect. Kit Baldwin gets a surprise when she discovers a childhood friend is trying to use their connection to improve his circumstances. Kit's superhuman powers and status only give her headaches, and her friend's desperation to make something of his life is only the latest.
Kit is the main character from Ever The Hero, which Publisher’s Weekly called “an entertaining debut uses superpowers as a metaphor to delve into class politics in an alternate America.” The Eververse presents complex questions with no easy answers, weaving together a deep love for comic books and a desire to explore the real world ramifications of superhumans.
The Eververse series continues with The Judgment of Valene, Nothing Ever Ends, and In Stories of the Eververse. This story takes place after Nothing Ever Ends, Book III of the Eververse, but offers a great jumping-on point for new readers.
Darby Harn is the author of the SPSFC quarterfinalist Ever The Hero, which Publisher's Weekly called "an entertaining debut uses superpowers as a metaphor to delve into class politics in an alternate America." His short fiction appears in Strange Horizons, Interzone, Shimmer, and other venues.
I found this book very hard to follow. It seemed to be missing something at the beginning of the story and also at the end. It is almost like this book was taken out of the middle of a longer book that had more pages.
