Sebastian Sallow is a tortured soul with the world on his shoulders whose only mission is to save his sister Anne - at any cost. Atley Barlowe is a budding new witch who also carries the world on her shoulders as she travels the road less traveled to unlock the secrets of her connection to ancient magic. Will the burdens of their lives, minds and souls prove to be too much or can they save each other?
This is my book! I am extremely biased of course, but I put a lot of love and heart into writing this story AND want MatD to appear on my “read” shelf - so I am leaving my own rating. It’s far from perfect and is in need of editing but for something I published as I wrote, I don’t believe it’s too terrible. I hope this book brings you as much joy to read as it did me to write!
About the book: Gave a good body to the characters I already knew. The banter and the conversations were enjoyable and logical. Even though I knew the storyline, I was happy with the changes that were made and found it enjoyable to read all the same. Though I think the end had a lot of sudden events that were mixed together, which felt like a bit much to me. But I do understand the idea and why it worked that way.
I am interested in the follow-up to this that is coming up in the future (I believe).
This is honestly the best fanfic ever. This and manacled are the best fanfics I’ve ever read and I can’t wait for the second part. It’s beautiful and the characters are amazingly written, and true to their personality in HL. The amount of quotes I have saved from this is insane, and you had my crying and laughing at 3:00 am.
First of all let me say that this book is beautifully written. I believe the author’s first language is English and she really knows her way around words. Also the depth of the story she has given is fascinating and I honestly cannot wait to find out more about this world and to read the second book.
However, I have to say that the story was very slow and in the beginning we knew almost nothing about Atley’s feelings towards Sebi so the scene after the first trial was a bit immedias res. Also for most part of the book nothing happens, but boy, when things start to escalate towards the end…
All in all, hard to say if Endgame of MATD is better, both are worth reading. I just mix the two in my head from now haha.
Did tiktok convince me to open AO3 again? Yes. Did i cry to a fanfic about a video game character? Yes. Was i disappointed? Absolutely not.
This author has a talent with words, and I would love to read an original work of hers! I hope she publishes someday, because I can see her becoming a well loved author with her pacing and word choice.
Best Sebastian fanfic, hands down! Well, I haven’t even read any other Sebastian fanfics, but I don’t feel like I have to! This one was AMAZING 🔥🙈 First time in a long time that I’ve cried over a fanfic 😂 if you love Hogwarts, if you love Sebastian, this fanfic is a MUST.
Merlin’s Beard! I practically inhaled this book. After finishing Hogwarts Legacy, I became properly obsessed with a certain brown haired Slytherin. I had a ravenous hunger for some Sebastian Sallow romance and boy, did this do it for me! A slow burn love story with good pacing. Characters’ personalities were true to the source material. I loved how there were references to many HL scenes which created a sense of nostalgia and many “ah I remember this happening in the game” moments. But yet, the chapters offered fresh perspectives and nicely built upon the established lore and storyline. Ah, I cannot wait to read the sequel!
i don’t even think I can put into words how much i love this book. it single handedly raised my reading standards, from the writing style to the way the characters are portrayed, everything from start to finish was absolutely perfect. i can’t get over the slow burn and the way she captured the smallest details about every single character, i absolutely adore it. it is so easy to immerse yourself into the book which I love and at times had me at the edge of my seat stressing 😭 regret not reading this sooner, it’s so beautifully written 1000/10
I just knew this was going to be good after this part
"I didn't panic at being caught staring. My normal uncertainty and anxieties around prolonged eye contact whispered away as we stared across the lines of students devouring their meals and talking excitedly to each other. His warm brown eyes studied my features and he smiled, but not the bright, troublesome smile I had come to know him by. No. This smile was different. This smile was accepting. This smile was understanding. This smile was filled and dripping with a pain I knew too well, a pain l'd hoped the world had saved only for me. I felt my heart crumble at the knowledge that this boy l'd only just met could feel the world as heavy a burden as I - that our brains had filed away what pain we had and collected the remains of our hearts with hastily sewn stitches. I felt the edges of my lips smile softly in return. Our second of eternity was over too soon."
One of the nicest books i've ever read. I totally fell in love with Atley, Sebastian and Ominis. Cant wait to read the sequel. Thank you mcKenna ❤️
This was my first fanfic I’ve ever read and I had a great time!! And it was definitely a fanfic—spelling and grammar mistakes galore lol. I didn’t let it detract from the story overall, I’m just unfortunately a grammar snob ever since middle school :/
I loved the story that was crafted around what we already knew from the game. It was exactly what I was looking for after finishing the game and scratched that itch for me. I wasn’t sure if I would be reading the sequel our author is currently putting out week by week, but I absolutely need to after that ending!
This was fun. Confirmed I was giggling and kicking my feet. Ominis is stage five third wheel which drove me nuts. I wish Atley explored other friendships outside of the trio, but I’ll take what I can get. I feel some scenes were really rushed, and others kind of dragged but without knowing what to expect from a fanfic, this was way better than I would have thought!
This is by far my favorite fanfiction I’ve ever read in my 10+ years in many different fandoms. It’s so well written, plotted, and thought out. You can tell there was so much blood, sweat and tears poured into this story and it really has a special place in my heart. The original characters remain in character with their own special fanon flair added into the mix. 10/10 have read this a million times and will be reading it a million more. <3
This book was great. I knew what was supposed to happen but there was enough that stayed true to the story that I was intrigued to keep reading because I wanted to get to the next part. But there was so much new stuff that it made me crave the new stuff and want to keep reading to know what the author would add next. It was a perfect mix between new and old. I wasn’t completely expecting the ending which was great and I loved the liberties the author took.
did not expect my first read of the year to be five stars and definitely didn’t expect it to be fanfic, but here we are!!! smiled, laughed, and cried with these characters and the writing is beautiful and SO addicting. starting part 2 as i type!!!
PS-this stole my attention from the tandem read of throne of glass…if that’s not a kudos to the author idk what is!!
one thing about me i WILL read fanfiction and i WILL enjoy it. the way i ate this up bc sebastion was my FAVORITE in the game and they did him soooo dirty. mckenna, your writing is poetry and i loved it 🫶🏼 my only gripe: WHY did i have to wait SO LONG for seb and atley to DO IT 😭 you were killing me
An amazingly written story with laughs, tears, happy and sad moments. Beautiful character development, some of my new favorite quotes and a story youll fall in love with. I love love love this story and plan to follow it until the end.
This fanfic is outstanding! The plot and characters are well written and thought out. I couldn't help but smile until my face hurt while reading MatD! There were also many moments for a good cry! The author's writing was truly an inspiration to me; I am beyond grateful for having read it!!
It is a "just" FanFiction but it is one of the most beautiful written peices. I personally played Hogwarts Legacy. However, if you haven't, I honestly think you will still enjoy it.
Was pretty great I loved how this Author wrote Sebastian it felt truly like him. I wish there was more spicy chapters. Maybe in the sequel? I 100% am invested and will read the sequel
i giggled. i kicked my feet. i cried. i SOBBED. i laughed. i hurt. i smiled. i did everything. this was some of the best fan fiction i have ever read in my life. holy sh*t. 10000000/5 stars.
