ഒരു പുസ്തകം ഒറ്റയിരിപ്പിന് വായിച്ച് തീർത്തു എന്നൊക്കെ പറയുമ്പോൾ അത് ആ പുസ്തകത്തിന്റെ മേന്മയായി നമ്മൾ ചിലപ്പോഴെങ്കിലും കണക്കാക്കാറുണ്ട്. പക്ഷേ നിമ്നയുടെ പുസ്തകം അതിൽ നിന്ന് മാറി നിൽക്കുന്നു. വായിക്കുന്നയാളുടെ തലച്ചോറിനെ പ്രവർത്തിപ്പിക്കുന്ന ഒന്നും തന്നെയില്ലാത്ത പുസ്തകമായതിനാൽ ഒറ്റയിരിപ്പിന് വേഗം തന്നെ വായിക്കാനാകും.
ഈ പുസ്തകം എന്തുകൊണ്ട് ഇത്ര വ്യാപകമായി വായിക്കപ്പെട്ടു എന്നതിന്റെ ഉത്തരം ഈ പുസ്തകത്തിൽ തന്നെയുണ്ട്. കഥയോ ഭാഷയോ കഥാപാത്രങ്ങളോ ഒന്നും നിങ്ങളെ ചാലഞ്ച് ചെയ്യാനിടയില്ല. ലളിതവും ഉപരിതലസ്പർശിയുമായ ഒരു പുസ്തകം.

A good read.
At times, it feels like a clichéd romantic film. There’s nothing particularly special about it—some lines are occasionally boring, and most of the storyline is predictable. എല്ലാം നമക്ക് പ്രിയപ്പെട്ടതാകുന്നത് അതിന്റെ മൊത്തം കഥ കൊണ്ടാകണം എന്നില്ല.. അതിലെ സംഭാഷണങ്ങളും, നമുക്ക് അടുത്തറിയാവുന്ന ആരെയൊക്കെയോ ഓർമിപ്പിക്കുന്ന ചില കഥാപാത്രങ്ങളും.. അവരോടു തോന്നുന്ന ചില വികാരങ്ങൾ കൊണ്ടും ഒക്കെ ആവാം..!!
അങ്ങനെ ഒന്ന് ആണ് ഈ പുസ്തകവും..

നാം കടന്നു പോയതും.. നമുക്കറിയുന്നവർ കടന്നു പോയതും ആയ കൊറേ സന്ദർഭങ്ങൾ..ഒന്നിരുന്നു ചിന്തിക്കാൻ കൊറേ സംഭാഷണങ്ങൾ.. :)

At first, before reading this book, I thought the author is a very young writer with little life experience, so I assumed it was just hype—nothing more than dramatic or just trying to make me feel something. But after reading it, I’ve become a fan—I will definitely read the next part!

When I read it, 📖 it felt like we all are went through this type of experience in life. Even me also….I hadn’t loved myself 💔 or paid attention to me. I realized that’s why I didn’t feel love for others ❤️. I walk with myself always, so I must first love me 💖. “To My Dearest Self” taught me that and gave me an incredible experience 🌟—I loved it!

I picked this book up for two reasons : I love reading Malayalam translations and two because of Haritha C.K. I have read her previous translated book, "Ram and Anandhi," and I can't stop thinking about it even today. Her translations are amazing.

"To my Dearest Self" is a malayalam book written by Nimna Vijay, and it is beautifully translated to English by Haritha C.K. The story follows Aditi, a woman who has moved to Bengaluru after a job change. Here, she gets to experience a lot of situations - both bitter and sweet. Her emotional journey and her struggles will make the readers get so immersed into the story.

Omg!! This book will make you very, very emotional. It is one of the best books I've read so far this year. As women, we are taught to put the needs of others before ours, right? The story also sheds light upon journaling. I strongly recommend this.

ഒരു കൊച്ചു സിനിമ കാണുന്നത് പോലെ വായിച്ചു ഇരിക്കാൻ പറ്റിയ പുസ്തകം .
സോഷ്യൽ മീഡിയയിൽ ഉള്ള ഹൈപ് കണ്ടപ്പോൾ തന്നെ ഏതൊരാൾക്കും വായിച്ച് മനസ്സിലാക്കാൻ പറ്റുന്ന പുസ്തകം ആണെന്ന് തോന്നിയിരുന്നു , പ്രതീക്ഷ തെറ്റിയില്ല . അതുകൊണ്ട് തന്നെയാവും വായിച്ചു തീരുമ്പോൾ വളരെ തൃപ്തി തോന്നി .

തുടക്കക്കാർക്ക് വായിക്കാൻ പറ്റിയ ബുക്ക് ആണ്..

The author portrays the characters’ feelings, their struggles, and the depth of their bonds in a very heartfelt way. The writing is simple, smooth, and keeps you connected to the story.The characters feel real, and many scenes touch your heart. The book creates a warm emotional atmosphere, making it easy to read in one stretch.But I personally did not like the ending. The whole story builds up with a lot of hope, but the ending felt incomplete and unsatisfying. It lacked the closure I expected, and it left me a bit disappointed.

Can you truly love someone, when you don't love yourself?

This was a question that came to when I read this book. And when you read it, I'm sure you too might go through this or many other revelations.

The story is about a malayali girl, Aditi, who works in Bengaluru. There she meets many people. Some who had her back during her worst days and some who made her life miserable. And she confided all of these to a mysterious Mahadev. Ultimately, the story was about a girl, navigating life's miseries and still surviving!

"But the truth was, every person carried the weight of sorrows very deep within them-- burdens they could seldom share"

I could see a part of me in Aditi and I guess that's the success of this story. She is someone that we all had been or is currently. And Aditi's story teaches us how to move past it. How to consider oneself with love and respect.

And reading this book was going through several emotions. Sometimes I felt happy to see Aditi moving on in her life. At other times, certain events in her life, would remind me of my own and I felt sadness creeping in. But in the end, the story ended with a decision that Aditi takes, which as a reader, I too learnt.

This book was equal parts fiction and equal parts learning for me. I learnt to find comfort in her story and I learnt to love myself, before I loved anyone else.

I highly recommend this book. It's relatable and makes you find happiness that you think would never come for you!

To My Dearest Self by Nimna Vijay revolves around Aditi, a young Malayali woman who moves to Bengaluru in pursuit of a better job and a better version of herself. Aditi is someone who always stands up for others and gives the best advice, but struggles to take her own.

The story beautifully captures Aditi's attempts to balance work, personal life, and the quiet chaos of figuring out who she really is. I especially loved the parts set in the hostel where Aditi stays; the friendships she forms with her hostelmates feel so comforting, reminding me of how such small connections can shape us in big ways.

The writing is simple yet deeply moving, and Haritha CK’s translation does full justice to its emotional honesty. I also have to mention the book cover, it is absolutely gorgeous!

All in all, the book is a gentle reminder of self-love, growth, and learning to listen to your own heart. The only thing I wished for was a slightly longer ending, it ended a bit too soon!

Took this book and read it in a go. Very interesting and engaging story telling by the author. Really appreciate the simple and su the narrative style. Athithi felt like a very relatable character and certain instances Really felt more like reflections from own personal experiences as well. Especially the attitude of family towards certain social constructs and taboos...
The beginning to the middle and till the end was very satisfying but the way it ended was not very convincing for me.
Especially the journey of the protagonist towards self love felt very rushed and explained in a haste at the Ending. That build up missed a point for me.
But overall, appreciate the author for a very good read

I found ഏറ്റവും പ്രിയപ്പെട്ട എന്നോട് to be a well-developed story with strong character arcs. The way the narrative unfolds is engaging, and the protagonist’s journey is written convincingly. I particularly liked how the book emphasizes self-love, which I completely agree with.

However, there were certain concepts that I couldn’t fully accept. Some ideas didn’t resonate with me, making parts of the story feel less convincing. Despite that, the overall message about embracing oneself was inspiring and well presented.

While I wouldn’t call it a perfect read, I appreciate the themes the book explores. It’s a decent novel with a positive takeaway, even if some elements didn’t entirely work for me.

Interesting modern novel on the life of a young woman in India with a particular focus on issues affecting women. The plot wad not great and most of the characters were flat, somewhat disappointing.

The novel begins with Aditi getting on the train to Bangalore to start her new job there. She is picked by an uncle who is her parents family friend and taken to the uncle’s house. Here she meets the uncle’s wife (aunty) and their daughter. She then goes to join the hostel where she has chosen for her stay in Bangalore. Her roommate is Shakti and she also makes friends with Ashwini and Devika (a college student) in the hostel. Aditi’s best friend is Laya and she speaks to her over the phone once she is settled as Laya is in Delhi with her husband. Aditi’s office environment is also nice, and she makes friends with Adi, Shakti and Geethu.

All is well as we see it but Aditi is not happy. Aditi has the habit of writing down her everyday happenings in a diary and these writings are in the format of a letter addressed to a “Mahadevan” – who probably is a character or name Aditi created. Aditi lacks happiness. She doesn’t trust to be happy for herself. We see in the novel that her parents- especially her mother is always scolding her and judging her for unnecessary things. For them “ she is a girl, she should take care of herself, she shouldn’t be wasting money, she shouldn’t have studied or got a job, she should have just got married and settled down, family respect is in the hands of the girl child ” etc . These lines would make many of us realize that a majority of girls still live under such circumstances with lack of freedom, happiness and peace.

Then comes Sharan into her life by chance and makes her life so happy and wonderful. For once Aditi is finally happy, ready to take risks, starts to love herself …all thanks to how Sharan makes her feel. Sharan is a genuine guy who is also working in Bangalore and as he was raised in Abu Dhabi has never heard of all the above type of concerns which Aditi’s parents have.

The book is an attempt to deal with multiple issues like: self-love, feeling happy for oneself, domestic violence, toxic love affairs, sex before marriage and gay relations.

The tempo of the story is very normal and then suddenly in the last 2-3 chapters the author seemed to be in a rush to finish the story. There are many things happening towards the end and the Aditi who was all scared and lacked any confidence in herself is suddenly all appreciative of life and loves herself so much she is also ready to forgive the person who wronged her.

While it does explore many sensitive themes, toxicity, homosexuality, and more… it felt like forced? Like Nimna Vijay shows she supports The LGBTQ+ community and i respect it and feel happy she does because it’s the right thing. But..it felt like she just wanted to include this in her book and doesn’t really fit the flow of the narration and it felt like. She just wanted to show her support and also she tried to make it relatable for all types of people?. Like for the ones who had a toxic manipulative boyfriend, Abusive husband, failed unfinished love, the whole story is about something the youth now had to face or will face. The ending of the story.. well I don’t know why but i just knew it’d happen the whole story is predictable because its not a thriller, it’s extracts from a fictional character whose made up of many real peoples life. It’ll be a warning as well as an advice from an elder sister to many young girls, but no its not a book for girls and those who say it is doesn’t get the point. It shows how we should be? No it says how we shouldn’t be. The rest is yours to decide.

The novel begins with a quote by Charles Bukowski: "If you have the ability to love, love yourself first." This quote perfectly captures the main theme of the story.

This is the story of a 22-year-old girl named Aditi. She moves to Bangalore for a new job. In her past, she always lived for others. She felt lonely, sad, and heartbroken because of the people she loved. When she starts her new life in the city, she still feels alone and unsure about herself. But slowly, she meets new friends and finds love.

However, fate was not kind to her. Her worst fears came true again, and she was left heartbroken once more. From there, she learns to be strong. She understands that, in the end, she has only herself, and the most important thing she can do is to love herself.

I’m sure every girl out there who is building her own life and learning to live for herself will find something in Aditi’s story that feels close to her own.

Its 1:41am when I’m writing this review. Let me tell u I’m bawling my eyes like a 2 year old. Tears just keep flowing uncontrollably. I was able to relate to so many things in Aditi’s story-not just because I’m a tamilian. I’ve experienced many things from this very book(apart from the relationship part). Denial from family for the actions of a close relative with whom I shared a maternal kind of bond. This book is just sooo soooo soooooo good. I’m usually a crime thriller kind of person when it comes to books but lately ive started getting into rom-coms too! And since i liked it I decided to go to a book fair held here from where I got “to my dearest self”. This is soo far the best book Ive read… hopefully there’s more such readings. Although i wouldve been the happiest if aditi and sharan got together in the end, but this is the reality of life. All thing’s we’ve treasured and protected for years come breaking down all at once. Ive learnt one sure thing from this book-I must start loving myself, though i have no idea as to how I should begin my journey upon that, but I’m determined! Not only to get away from future outbursts(because I believe its natural for humans and i dont think one can prevent it) but I should love myself to enjoy the true beauty of this wonderful thing called life ❤️

മലയാളം പുസ്തകം "എറ്റവും പ്രിയപ്പെട്ട എന്നോട്" by Nimna Vijay. ഈ പുസ്തകം എനിക്ക് ഏറെ ഇഷ്ടപ്പെട്ടു, എവിടെയോ നെഞ്ചിൽ ഒരു നീറ്റലുപോലെ. Nimnaയുടെ ശൈലി വളരെ ലളിതമാണ്, മലയാളം വായിക്കാൻ അറിയുന്ന എല്ലാവർക്കും എളുപ്പത്തിൽ മനസ്സിലാക്കാൻ കഴിയുന്ന വിധം.

കഥയുടെ ഉള്ളടക്കം സ്ത്രീകൾ അവരുടെ ജീവിതത്തിൽ നേരിടുന്ന ദുരിതങ്ങളും കഷ്ടപ്പാടുകളുമാണ്. പെൺകുട്ടികളെ ചെറുപ്പം മുതൽ 'അന്യവീട്ടിൽ പോകേണ്ട കുട്ടി' എന്ന ടാഗ് നൽകി വളർത്തുന്ന മാതാപിതാക്കളും, മക്കൾക്കുവേണ്ടി സംസാരിക്കാൻ മടിക്കുന്ന മാതാപിതാക്കളുമുണ്ട്.

അവസാന മൂന്ന് അദ്ധ്യായങ്ങൾ എന്റെ കണ്ണുകൾ നിറച്ചു. ഈ കഥയും സംഭവങ്ങളും ഞാൻ വളരെ അടുത്തു അനുഭവിച്ചപോലെ തോന്നി. 10 വർഷം മുൻപ് വിട്ടുപോയ ബാംഗ്ലൂർ നഗരത്തിലേക്ക് എന്റെ മനസിനെ വീണ്ടും കൊണ്ടുപോയി എന്നത് തന്നെയാണ് ഈ കഥയുടെ അതിശയകരമായ ഭാഗം. 'അഥിതി' എന്ന കഥാപാത്രത്തോടുള്ള എന്റെ ഇഷ്ടം, ബഹുമാനം, സഹാനുഭൂതി, അതേ സമയം സഹതാപം, ഇത്രയും ശക്തമായിരുന്നു.

പുസ്തകത്തിന്റെ ചട്ട നിറവും... പേര് ഏറ്റവും പ്രീയപ്പെട്ട നിന്നോട് എന്ന് തെറ്റായി വായിച്ചതിനാലും, ഇത് വായിച്ചു കരയുന്ന വീഡിയോസ് കണ്ടതുകൊണ്ടും കുറച്ചു പൈങ്കിളി ആകുമോ എന്ന് വിചാരിച്ചു..

മറ്റൊരു നാട്ടിൽ അഥിതി ആയി എത്തിയ അഥിതി എന്ന പെൺകുട്ടിയുടെ ജീവിതം... അവളുടെ ചുറ്റും ഉള്ള കുറെ കഥാപാത്രങ്ങൾ, അവളുടെ ജീവിതത്തെ ഇന്ഫ്ലുവെൻസ് ചെയ്യുന്നതും, സുഹൃത്തുക്കൾ, സഹോദരങ്ങൾ.. പ്രണയം... ഒന്ന് ചെയ്യാൻ പറ്റാത്ത കുറെ അവസ്ഥകളും എല്ലാം കൂടെ മിക്സ് ആയ ഒരു ജീവിതത്തെ പറ്റി പറഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നു..

നമ്മുടെ സൊസൈറ്റി ആണല്ലോ എപ്പോളും പ്രശ്നം ഉണ്ടാകുന്നത് ... കല്യാണം കഴിഞ്ഞു 3 വർഷം എടുത്തിട്ടാണ് ഞാനും എന്റെ ഭാര്യയും ഒരു കൊച്ചു വേണം എന്ന് തീരുമാനിച്ചത്... നാട്ടിൽ ചെന്നപ്പോളേക്കും വന്നു ദി സൊ called കെളവന്മാർ "മോന് ആ ഡോക്ടറെ പോയി കണ്ടുടെ ? " - ഒരു പണിയും ഇല്ലാതെ കുറെ പഴയ XY chromosomes !

ചില പുസ്തകങ്ങൾ വായിച്ചാൽ മറക്കാം, ചിലത് നമ്മോടൊപ്പം തന്നെ ജീവിക്കും.നിമ്ന വിജയ് എഴുതിയ എറ്റവും പ്രിയപ്പെട്ട എന്നോട് അത്തരത്തിലുള്ള ഒരു പുസ്തകമാണ്.
ഇത് ഒരു കഥയല്ല — സ്വയം പറയുന്ന ഒരു കത്താണ്. ഒരിക്കൽ നമുക്ക് തന്നെ പറയേണ്ട, പക്ഷേ ഒരിക്കലും പറഞ്ഞിട്ടില്ലാത്ത വാക്കുകൾ നിറഞ്ഞത്.

പുസ്തകത്തിലെ നായിക അതിഥി ഒരു സാധാരണ പെൺകുട്ടിയാണ്. പ്രണയത്തിൽ നിന്നും വേദനയിലേക്കും, ആത്മവിശ്വാസം നഷ്ടപ്പെട്ട ജീവിതത്തിലേക്കും നീങ്ങുന്ന അവളുടെ യാത്ര നമ്മുടേതിനോട് വളരെ സാമ്യമുള്ളതാണ്. ബെംഗളൂരുവിൽ നടക്കുന്ന ഈ കഥ അതിഥിയുടെ മനസ്സിലൂടെയാണ് പോകുന്നത് — അവളുടെ ഓർമ്മകൾ, ഭയങ്ങൾ, പ്രതീക്ഷകൾ എല്ലാം നമ്മെ തൊടുന്നു.
പഴയ ബന്ധത്തിന്റെ വേദനയും വിഷമവുമായ അനുഭവങ്ങൾ നിമ്ന വളരെ സത്യസന്ധമായി എഴുതുന്നു. അതിഥിയുടെ വേദന നമ്മുടേതായി തോന്നും.

ഈ പുസ്തകം നമ്മെ പഠിപ്പിക്കുന്നത് ഒരു പ്രധാന പാഠം: സ്വയം സ്നേഹിക്കുക എളുപ്പമല്ല, പക്ഷേ അതാണ് ആദ്യം വേണ്ടത്.അതിഥി തന്റെ ജീവിതത്തിൽ “മതി” എന്ന് പറയാൻ ധൈര്യം കാണിക്കുന്ന നിമിഷം, അതാണ് കഥയുടെ ഹൃദയം.
