Redemption is book three of the Dekra 9-2-6 Series. A one-of-a-kind space opera filled with action, mystery, and friendship.
Refusing to abandon their shipmates, Elise Lewis and Major Rick Clark sacrifice their search for Earth and commit to fight beside Head Officer Zúrhé and Dekra 9-2-6. No matter what. Estranged from the United Free Territories, the crew is more vulnerable than ever before. And with the Imperium steadily assimilating more people, they are running out of time.
However, the Imperium is not the only obstacle Zúrhé and the crew are faced with. Resolved to seize Dekra 9-2-6 for himself, devious Lord Kosk is in relentless pursuit. Determined to gain the advantage, the crew joins forces with some unlikely allies. Meanwhile, tensions run high on the ship, and it’s only a matter of time before sparks fly.
With options rapidly vanishing, Dekra 9-2-6 prepares for a final stand to save the United Free Territories from destruction. But freedom doesn’t come cheap. If they survive, will their path to Redemption have been worth the cost?
If you love space sci-fi like Stargate and Star Next Generation sprinkled with action elements similar to Hawaii Five-0, give the Dekra 9-2-6 series a try.
When last we checked in with the intrepid crew of Dekra 9-2-6, they had been forced to go on the lam, their reputation sullied yet again by the evil machinations of Lord Kosk. Hadrol, Kosk’s archrival and the Dekra crew’s only Obda’úré frenemy, had been captured, stripped of his artificially enhanced capabilities, and left to die on a remote planet. Relegated to lurking in the shadows, the crew has been forced to put personal agendas aside, including finding a way home for Earthlings, Rick Clark and Elise Lewis, but it’s a sacrifice they’re willing to make. It’s the least they can do considering Sub Commandeer Denijku Zúrhé welcomed them into his crew pending the location of a home world he had never even heard of.
Welcome to Season Three of Rachel Cheríe’s Intergalactic Angels (aka Dekra 9-2-6)! And that’s exactly how I’ve come to think of this series—well, minus the cheeky retitling. Each chapter is episode length, and this is a full season order! As in her two previous outings, Cheríe rotates the central focus of each chapter through various configurations of her sizable cast, ensuring everyone will be spotlighted. Friendships deepen, and relationships get more complicated—in particular, Elise’s conflicted feelings for Denijku and Hadrol. Even *I’m* not sure which team I’m on anymore, and that’s a testament to Cheríe’s ability to develop her characters believably while keeping the overarching narrative firmly on track, and the stakes have never been higher. Lord Kosk has thrown down a gauntlet, and Denny is tired of running. Without the backing of the Intergalactic Peace Service, he’s completely outnumbered, but it’s time to take a stand, and he’s banking on Kosk’s own hubris to be his ultimate undoing, although there’s bound to be casualties along the way—and if you’ve been paying attention, no one is completely safe in Cheríe’s world.
Prepare to meet new friends and say goodbye to a few others, as the Dekra crew rises to their biggest challenge yet. Thrills, laughter, and tears abound, and by the end of the story, most if not all of the storylines are neatly tied up; the ones that aren’t are understandably so—or else I’m becoming immune to my usual cliffhanger rage. Of course, it helps immeasurably that Book 4 in the series, The Inquest, was just released.
Finished the third book in Rachel Cheríe, Author's Dekra 9-2-6 series last night. A solid 4 stars from me.
I read these in an episodic fashion, one or two most nights, as each chapter is generally set out that way. Akin to something like a mash-up of Farscape, Star-Trek, and often Red Dwarf in its more lighthearted moments.
The episodes are tight and most often contribute to the overarching plot. Sometimes an episode felt a little unnecessary in this context, but most were great fun.
I am getting used to the numerous characters now, but be warned there are many of them and they can be hard to keep track of. Rachel is putting together a character list and bio on Facebook, which is helpful in this respect.
My only criticism is that the books are perhaps overly long, and while there is nothing obviously shoehorned in, I think they might flow better if the books were shorter. That said, if read in an episodic fashion, this isn't an issue. I just wouldnt recommend trying to plough through in a few sittings.
Mavner remains my favourite character. He develops again in this book and we see more of his underlying character emerging. An autisically coded individual in my mind, who shows there is more going on than surface appearance suggests.
Another really strong book in the series and I look forward to the next!
A satisfying ending to the Dekra 9-2-6 series. It felt to me like it was a little too stretched out, though. I got tired of crew members being kidnapped by random bad guys, and rescued by their colleagues. It would have been better if there was something in each of these episodes that contributed to the final resolution. But on the whole, a rollicking good read, like the first two. I'd really like to see this made into a TV series. The characters are so memorable, and their interactions are fun. Thanks, Rachel!
The saga of the DEKRA 9-2-6 crew continues to deliver in both plot and character development. Again, woven on the pages come an interesting blend of unique events and story advancement. I have enjoyed the twists and turns of individuals and plot that help give this series a fresh space, yet familiar feel. This book fits perfectly in the series. Well done!
What an absolute triumph! The third instalment in this series did not disappoint. It is filled with action and unexpected twists. Rachel's writing was impeccable, effortlessly drawing me deeper into the story. I can not recommend this series enough.
