In the sun-scorched frontier desert, Charlie Norwood has earned her reputation as a fearsome bounty hunter specializing in goblin extermination. It's dirty work, but she, along with her ancient mech Rusty, are well-suited to it.
Her life takes a perilous turn when she unwittingly interrupts a covert gnomish warmechs, arcane machinery of war, in pursuit of an elusive elven arcanist. Thrust into a conspiracy that could upheave the delicate balance of power, Charlie must navigate a world of political intrigue, ancient rivalries, and mechanized mayhem. Unlikely alliances will be forged, and battle lines will be redrawn, as she uncovers secrets that could alter the fate of the world itself.
A bird that likes comfy and happy things, and also knives. Once ate a god’s eye and awakened the ability to see all that is good in the world. Known to steal shiny ideas and baubles. Currently forbidden from writing his own bios.
The characters really come out in the dialogue. You can see who Charlie and Clin are. The rpg parts are subtle, not in your face like and early 2000s HUD. Also, I saw what you did there with the name of the news paper... undying herald, solid tip of the hat to Dead Tired.
Tried that after reading the two Dead Tired books which were excellent (and hélas, to continue). I'm not into mechwarriors at all, but despite that, had fun reading it. Feels like a western with a cyberpunk touch. Too bad it is not finished either.
Loved the Western setting and the characters, but this was a little action-heavy for my taste with just a bit more violence than I prefer. Still would very much like to read the next book in the series, though!
Real characters, excellent Worldbuilding, good story. I really hope there will be a book 2. I mean mechs and guns powered by magic, what more could you want?
