This book sucked me in, and I was up to the wee hours of the night finishing it. I was hesitant because it was the fourth in a series and was worried I would get confused or lost, but I did not. Now, on to the characters
Veronica, holy shit this girl was delt a super shit hand. I was torn between being horrified and heartbroken for her the whole damn book. So much heartbreaking, soul crushing stuff happened to her. I still don't understand how she had the willpower to get up in the mornings, but she did. She was so strong and never realized it.
Alaric angered me a lot. Straight up dude was a dick of epic proportions but when he realized just how wrong he was about his girl well lets just say don't fuck with Alaric or anything or anyone he considers his. He brought his full fury and power down on EVERYONE that hurt his girl. Watching these two finally get their HEA was everything because damn did Veronica deserve it. Also, the note from Alicia broke my heart🥺
So all in all I really enjoyed this book and it will be re-read for me. I'm super curious about Garret and Valen, so I will be continuing the series.
I would take the trigger warnings seriously before diving in. I received an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Um I’m speech less. I didn’t read any of the trigger warning because frankly I haven’t found any that really affect me so and I just didn’t bother but I do advise you to check them before reading this book. The emotional roller coaster that I just went on omg. I was literally in tear probably half of the book. Veronica is in love with this boy and gives her self to him only to be a part of someone’s sick twist game. Everyone thinks bad of her and calls her a wh0re and all kinds of names and she’s finally out on a mask and let’s them think she really is what they say. I don’t want to give away to much of the story or give any spoilers but this poor girl has gone through some heartbreaking things. My heart broke for her and I hated how she had to pay for someone else’s mistakes. This book was so good I hated that it ended I wanted more so bad. I just recently come across Carmen and I’ve loved everything I’ve read so far and she’s becoming one of my top favorite writers.
I'm not going to lie, I signed up for this book because of the cover. What can I say, I like dark romance? And this definitely looked dirty!
I devoured this book, in one sitting today. I was hooked from beginning to end. I was slightly disappointed towards the end, but only because I felt like soo much more could have been added, and that the plot seemed rushed through. I had alot of unanswered questions. This was my first book by Carmen Rosales but I will definitely be checking out the rest of the series, I was that hooked.
I was given this ARC I'm exchange for my honest review. Thank you Candi Kane PR and Carmen Rosales
PS- I know this may be frowned upon but if you liked Shantel Tessier's Lord series check this out, it gave me those kinda vibes, but a shorter version.
It was definitely a surprise to seeing Forgive Me For I Have Sinned by Carmen Rosales sitting in my kindle. Once I saw it I immediately had to start. I honestly had no idea this book was part of a series and thankful it's a standalone. I do hope to find time to read the other books because Forgive Me For I Have Sinned was seriously a crazy read in the best way. There are quite a few characters to keep up with, the main ones being Alaric and Veronica. Both have grit and are tough as nails in their own right and any scene with these two is beyond hot. Sometimes the storyline got a bit chaotic because of all the characters, but overall I loved reading this book and was a great introduction to this author.
I'm so glad the author did a book on Victoria!! This was so needed.
As much as I disliked her in the previous books, this really opened my eyes to how she became the person that she was. Sometimes I think she was underrated and overlooked by a lot of her peers, but that's because she didn't let them in.
Her life was dark and torturous and at the hands of people that you thought she could trust. The only thing that she found out is she could trust no one when it came to the order.
Alaric was someone that I wanted to like and it took a while for me to get there. Some of the things that he did and said were quite harsh. But eventually he did come around to being someone that I liked and, I forgave him!! But did Veronica?? Hmmm…
I loved this book!! The twist and turns were crazy!! But I so enjoyed the ride!!
This book is dark, and could be triggering to some people, so please read the warnings!!
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
First I want to say how much I hated Aleric at first. I honestly didn’t see a way for him to redeem himself and make up for all the horrible things he said and did to Veronica. My heart was breaking for this poor girl. For her it was always Aleric. She had a crush on him for so long but he was 4 years older and didn’t notice her. Until he did, and that very night he broke her heart and in the worst way possible. Soon after her world really flipped and she lost so much. I despised Aleric for what he did and how he just stood by and allowed others to treat her. He does manage to redeem himself though. After all the pieces are laid out for him and he finally realizes everything wasn’t what he thought, he wants revenge. He vows to do what he should have done 2 years ago and he finally admits he loves Veronica, it’s always been her. I loved seeing Adam and Valen supporting her, and Sergio was awesome too! Even Aleric’s grandfather knew his true feelings for her for so long. This was a great book that’ll definitely take you on one heck of a roller coaster ride! Check triggers if you’re sensitive to certain topics.
Another great story by Carmen, I think this one is going to be a close second to one of my favorites from the others she has written. I love all the drama, and the angst and tension between everyone! I can’t wait for another one! Great work!.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Im really enjoying these books I love each book i fmget to know the characters better each has there on stories and pasts and these are books I love getting lost and engrossed in. It has passion, revenge , murder , kinky sex all the good things!!
I loved this book the whole series is so good made me realized I miss judged Veronica she was misunderstood I’m glad I got to read her side of the story. She has my whole heart now !
I can’t get enough of the Sons of Kenyan !!!!!!! This book blown me away and I am SHOCKED by Veronica and Alaric love story. My heart broke so many times in this series that I didn’t think was possible for me to find more heartbreak. After Jess story I didn’t think anything would be that deep and sad. Well I was wrong…….. Veronica story cuts deep and you can’t help but feel for her. The whole mask she has and how she allows people to see her it’s all a farce and when you see glimpses of her story in Jess’s book you start to have some doubts but nothing prepared me for what truly was. 💔❤️🩹😭🥺 Alaric ANGERED me to no end, I even started to think he wouldn’t have a way to be redeemed. I was also wrong. He redeemed himself BEAUTIFULLY. The way he loves and cares for her made this my favorite book in this series along with Appetite (Jess’s book). Valen still my absolute favorite guy in the series and what a great friend he was to Veronica made me love him even more. Adam was also a very welcomed surprise. Those books are marked as standalone but I really don’t think they are… there’s no way to get the full picture and understand everything about the school and their background without reading in order. I am absolutely blown away with this series and my only complaints are that they are actually too short and sometimes feel’s unfinished and also the grammatical errors and the fact that this book specifically is not uploaded correctly on kindle and I had to get a physical copy to read it’s ANNOYING as fuck. But everything about this book is amazing and I am starting Vallen’s book IMMEDIATELY ❤️

I am blown away by Alaric and Victoria's story! The intense, raw, gritty emotions had my heart a mangled mess. My mind was blown by the unexpected twists in the story. The angst hit me straight in the heart. I am an angst lover, and this one hit all the marks for me. It is a super twisted story of revenge and betrayal. Familial obligations. A misunderstanding. A secret society with really dark, ugly secrets that are about to be uncovered. Hold on for a crazy, wild ride that will have your emotions all over the place!
Victoria is a beautiful, misunderstood, and wrongly judged young woman with a dark and tragic past, who is resigned to her fate to marry someone she didn't choose. Although, she has purposely portrayed herself in this manner (You'll have to read to see why.) She is in deep trouble and doesn't think anyone can save her. She carries dark secrets that no one knows about. She gets help from Alaric, an unexpected white knight who is a morally grey anti-hero. He initially hates Victoria due to events that happened in the past, but when he starts to unravel Victoria's protective layers he realizes there's so much more than meets the eye. It is proof that everything and everyone is not always as they seem. Can Victoria trust Alaric? Can Alaric truly be her white knight, or is it too late?
I can't get enough of the Sons of Kenyan! They are all bad boys who fight hard and love harder. They protect what and who are theirs. I loved this entire series! I was hooked, a goner, so invested, and unable to put it down. It was addicting and I need another fix! The mystery, intrigue, angst, and passion had me riveted to every single page. I LOVE these characters! They are all so different but complement each other. It was great to see characters from previous books in the series. I have to say it is hard to choose a favorite but Victoria really hit differently. She was a pleasant surprise and my heart broke for what she went through, but her transformation and triumph made my heart so full! Alaric made a 360-degree turn from what he was like in the previous books, and I was swooning for him so hard in the end! The HEA made my heart so full.
This is a standalone romance with interconnected characters from previous books in the series. Although it is not necessary to read all of the books in this series, I highly recommend doing it because it enhances the reading experience. You won't be sorry! They keep getting better and better with each book in the series. I am well and truly addicted to this series, and I hope this isn't "The End." Please heed the TWs, if you have any, as this book takes some dark turns at times. I highly recommend you one-click all of the books in this series!
Could this book be read as a standalone? Yes. Do I think it works best that way? Not necessarily. With the books being interconnected, I think to fully get a grasp of Veronica up to this point, you have to understand the story and view points thus far. But again, technically, you can read as a standalone but i feel like if i hadn't read the previous books, i could make it through but would feel like i was missing some info. Alaric was introduced in the last book but his appearance didn't make or break anything. From book 1, Veronica has been a enigma. First you hate her, book 2, you are confused by her, by book 3, you get a feeling that things aren't what they seem with her and after revelations, you question everything you think you figured out and wonder what's really going on. We find that out here and this book turns the tides. Honestly I couldn't stand Alaric for the majority of the book and felt like he should have had major groveling to do, but I can appreciate his actions of retribution on her behalf as penance. I was very annoyed that he didn't do more research into things in the beginning at the party, and especially that instead of using his brain and thinking the blood was from what it actually was that he just went along with the crowd, although even before the message he gave no indication he care about her and would treat her better than a conquest anyway. I was glad to see people actually looking out for Veronica and being there for her and trying to be a friend to her. I'm still a bit confused about Adam and his induction. He didn't seem to bat a eye at the insidious things he was getting involved with especially to not come from that world. But I really like his character and hope to see him get a book later. I'm excited for Valen's book coming up and wonder who he will end up with, i dont think it will be Melissa, i think he needs a special girl to come into the mix to see him finally find happiness. I was kind of bummed he got left behind so to speak with Jess. I thought it'd be another mfm and was here for it. so excited Gia is having another baby, especially after what happened in book 2. I feel really bad for Garrett and wonder if he'll find someone else that actually chooses him. Off topic, but I'm also really hoping we get book 2 of the he loves me loves me not series. Anyway, great read! I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily
I’m going to start with the negative. Please note, what is negative is far, for outweighed by the positive! Please stay for it! The story deserves it.
Punctuation is either wrong or totally missing. Parentheses when a character is speaking are usually not there, it can be confusing. Added in with the misuse of response words, such as ‘quip’ will make you reread paragraphs trying to figure out who spoke (or didn’t) and if it was a question or a statement. (Question marks are also missing when needed)
At times, over using descriptions (adjectives and adverbs) e.g. he caressingly caressed
All that being said, all that is needed is for a much better editor!
Keys to the story that aren’t referenced or can be confusing:
At some point, the female character Veronica was renamed. She was originally named Victoria. If you read the previous books in this series, you may have noticed that Victoria has been mentioned in stories retold involving Veronica.
Also, Reid and Alicia are twins. They are the same age and same grade/year in school, but it is never said specifically that they are anywhere in the four books.
All that being said, I love this series.
It is well written in the sense that you feel the character’s emotions and are along for the ride.
The solutions to the key arc of the story are a tad simplistic, but it in no way detracts from you wanting it to work out.
This isn’t a standalone, you must read the previous three books - all with the same minor issues referenced above, solved with a good editor! - all the characters are worth it, especially Jess and Veronica! They are the two that really did it for me. Their happily ever after is what makes the series for me. I fell in love with their men only because they loved their ladies.
I really love this series for the female characters. Highly recommend them.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review for Stephanie's Book Reports.
I will go ahead and warn you that once you pick this book up you will not be laying it down. I was so hooked on this book from the first chapter to the last. This is the story of Veronica and Alaric. Now we have to talk about Alaric. He is a member of the order and he got to take over his family's business and skip marriage because the man would never have the desire to marry. Now he isn't the nicest but he is fierce and down right scary at times when he needs to be. But I can see people not liking him at first. There are things you don't know when you are first introduced to him. There are things that he doesn't know either and you have to peel this guy back layer by layer while you discover what is really going one. Veronica has had a crush on Alaric for forever and a best friend that she loved with her entire heart. One night when everything should have been perfect it is destroyed and Alaric from that moment vowed to hate her the rest of his life. Fast forward into the present and she is now a senior about to graduate and that means that she has to marry a man that the order picks for her. Just like Alaric things that have happened have shaped her and made her the girl she is that everyone sees on the outside. Inside she is a girl who is desperate for things to end and is grieving the loss of her very best friend. She shows people what they think they want to see in her and not really who she is. When Alaric shows back up in her life secrets will be revealed, madness will ensue and you are so engrossed in this book you will not lay it down. I loved every second of this book. The heartbreak, the moments that took my breath, the characters, all of it is perfection. You do not want to miss this book.
Carmen Rosales, what have you done to me! This was a book that sucked me from the prologue and putting me through on an emotional rollercoaster before kicking me off at the end. Forgive Me for I Have Sinned has left me with a book hangover, but it was more than worth it. I would never have believed I would do a complete one-eighty about Veronica, a character I hated since she was first introduced in this series…... OK so maybe she redeemed herself slightly in the previous books, but I never dreamed her backstory would be so heartbreaking and angsty. My heart hurt for her so much in this book. Her life was a living hell, but she still tried to help everyone she could and protect them. How she kept going I’ve no idea, she must’ve had steel at her core. Alaric was a complete alpha hole to her for most of this book blaming her for imagined slights when, out of everyone at Kenyan she was the most innocent, but ultimately, he was just as much a victim as she was. And when he realised he’d been played and hurt the one person he had come to love, well let's just say every girl needs a psychotic antihero who will go to war for her, and I cheered as he took his revenge and wholehearted agreed with his methods. This wasn’t an easy book to read but the ending made it so deliciously dark and strangely sweet. Nothing says I love you like the brutal end of every man who ever abused you.
This was my first book by Carmen Rosales and I will definitely be diving back into her whole "The Prey Series". So first let me give you a little warning... the first 70% of the book I was so irritated with the MMC and I was incredibly confused. As the book went on though all of my questions were answered. She definitely fulfilled the Chekhov's rifle principle... but it takes awhile to get there. Basic idea behind the book: (secret society) girl loves (secret society) guy, guy hooks up with girl then immediately turns on girl and everyone around now hates girl, girl leans into it and pisses the guy off even more, but guy falls in love with girl --- but because this is a secret society book nothing is that easy and so sooooo many people die as a result. The writing was 5 star, the side characters were 5 star, but the MMC and FMC - they made me drop a star. The FMC was so close to being a really great and strong character but then she'd do something out of character to make her seem weak and it just hurt my heart. Also, she lets MMC off waaaaayyyy too easily for what a garbage person he is to her. I found the MMC entirely unredeemable, full stop. Even though I didn't love the main characters, I still found this book entertaining and suggest you give it a read.
They say don't judge a book by its cover but I picked the book only for the cover and the blurb. As expected this is pretty much hot and spicy read left my throat dry.
What a high voltage....? I was fascinated by the push and pull between the main leads. In one sitting, I don't even remember when I started it because before I could it feel it getting boring I came to know it was done.
Veronica - Initially, I felt really bad for her but the way she pulled herself together and built her walls with the stones thrown by the people around her was damn amazing. I am touched by her meticulous actions.
Alaric - The perfect anti-hero. Sometimes I just wanted to kill him and the other time I would gladly allow him to embrace me in his arm. The way he wants to take revenge on her and then confesses his love for her was too cute.
I loved Adam and Valen for always supporting Veronica. Their bond is too adorable.
The author did an excellent job to keep me hooked up to the book. I just devoured the book a lot. This was my first book by Carmen Rosales and I am excited to read all her books now.
Don't miss this superb hot read.
Thanks @Booksprout and @Carmenrosales for providing me a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
This book was interesting. I love Carmen’s books. Especially because she does a great job making the men grovel after fucking up. I didn’t read the first 3 books because for some reason the synopsis didn’t draw me in but it was easy to catch on and get an idea of each of the characters in this book so I was fine with not reading the others. This book does remind of a lot of Shantel Tessier’s books with the lords but it was easy to see some of the differences.
I wasn’t sure if Alaric was going to redeem himself but I felt like he did…in his own way 🤷🏻♀️ not everyone will feel like he did. He was out for revenge when he realized the truth about Veronica. She suffered silently and went through so much, it was really sad. Only her best friend Alicia truly knew the real Veronica so when Alicia died she felt completely alone. I did love her character, I understand she was the mean girl or the bitch in the other books but everyone has a story and her being a bitch was a front to protect herself and those around her. I’m happy Alaric was determined so save her and give her the life that she deserves.

This is a dark and twisted read so readers need to heed the author's warning because it is noted for a reason. However, I've read the previous books in the Prey series, so I knew what I was getting myself into and when it came to this book it did not disappoint. Veronica was one tough cookie because she was put through a lot and in the end, she came out on top, but it definitely was not an easy journey for her at all. There will definitely be characters you love and h*te in this book. Alaric was in the h*te zone for a long time after what he did but slowly throughout the story his character changed my opinion of him, and I liked him a lot by the end of the story. I was just looking forward to Veroncia getting a HEA in the end because she deserved it. This story was not only dark and twisted but there was betrayal, suspense, mystery, deaths, jealousy, steamy scenes, romance, love and more. It definitely left me wanting to read more books not only in the Prey series, but other books from this author as well.
I had been waiting for Veronica's book FOREVER! I couldn't wait to read her story. Since the first book when she was being mentioned, I would read glimpses of her and she sounded like such a witch and I knew that there was a reason for her bad attitude and that there was something behind her exterior. I WAS RIGHT!
This story is about Veronica and the love of her life, Alaric and the story behind them. It's an enemies-to-lovers story that will certainly have you foaming at the mouth with how great this was.
The back and forth between them and the heartbreaking journey of what is Veronica's real life, it was phenomenal. I loved how she could be snippy and snarky. I absolutely adored her and Alaric!! He was just this domineering, alpha male that had my ovaries just about exploding.
Ms. Rosales never fails me, I have loved every story I've read from her, and by far this series has been my favorite <3
I have read this entire series and it's all been absolutely amazing! I actually find this one really did have a side to it that really touched me.. It still has all the same dirty deeds as the other books do and its twisted and naughty hot scenes.. However I really felt for Veronica...she was so hurt by so many people and circumstances and losses yet she remained true to others in her life...she also took the bullying and tormenting and kept going... She's the strongest of any of the women in this series, in my opinion. Alaric really screwed up but after he figures it out he's amazing and owns his stuff. I loved the ending btw! Not just the HEA but the other part where Alaric does what he does best lol! Read this series and read this book! It's so well written and so unique! I would love another book maybe about Adam or one of the others? Fingers crossed!
This is the 4th book in this incredible series, and my word, Victoria has endured so much in her life, and when her best friend dies, her work shatters, and she spiralled into depression. As Victoria is nearing the end of her final year, she must marry under the Orders rules, and her father must choose the man she must marry, and he chooses her ex-boyfriend’s rival. Alaric is dark sinister, and has a plan for Victoria, and when he finds out who she is to marry, revenge is sweet. This is a well written story which is dark, raw, gritty, and an intense emotional roller coaster, which is depraved, with revenge, loss, grief, heartbreak, secret societies, romance, and love, which leads to an entertaining, haunting, twisted, unpredictable, and steamy addictive page turner. Be aware for the trigger warning due to the sensitive content! I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.
Omg!! Omg!!! The journey that Victoria and Alaric took me on has been one crazy ride . This absolutely amazing series just keeps getting better and better . I’m actually sitting in the doctors office waiting for my dad to get a procedure right and and I just finished Forgive Me For I Have Sinned . You should see the people that were looking at me 🤣 . Why you ask ? Well because I had to literally stop myself from yelling out loud . This journey truly is a emotional rollercoaster in every single way . Intrigue, suspense, dark , raw Ana gritty moments, lies , secrets , revenge, revelations, love , passion, steamy moments, heartbreaking and heartfelt ones as well , twists and turns, loss , grief, tragedy, secret societies, and characters that are so wonderfully written, so unique and extremely multi layered. I was hooked from start to finish . Devouring every single word to the point I was fighting to keep my eyes open . What a masterpiece, 💜💜💜
Once again Carmen has sucked me into her book. I read this book in one night ONE NIGHT, I love love love this series and couldn't wait for this book to come out (I know I need therapy because this world is crazy but I love it). I knew there was more to Veronica and I was right. Let me just say at first I hated Alaric and what he did and continued to do until he found out the truth and then was like on no I need to make this right. Man was he blind, but I'm glad he pulled his head out of his A$$ and did the right thing. I know its crazy but I liked Veronica in the other books and knew there was way more to her story and what a sad story that is, however its made her a strong and caring women. You can she the women she is and the "games" she has to play.
I honestly thought that Carmen couldn't do any better with the Prey series but she shuts that thought down within the first chapter of this gem. I knew from the series to date that there is more than meets the eye with Veronica but did not expect to have such a complete change in my opinion of her. Poor girl chose the boy she loves giving her innocence to him only to be humiliated and used as a pawn in someone else's game. Instead of breaking down at the judgment of others, she puts on a mask and saves her true self to be exposed when working at the diner surrounded by people who actually care about her. I wanted to shout at Alaric throughout the book for missing the obvious clues but the morally grey hottie had to come around in his own time. Without spoiling, the ending was absolute perfect justice although I do wish the book was longer just to get more of these two.
Veronica has had the biggest crush on Alaric for the longest time. After one night at a frat party her whole life changes. After some time she starts to bond with Alaric while dealing with her crazy father and her soon to be husband. Alaric realizes that he actually loves her and does everything he can to fight the order.
I have never read a dark romance like this before. It was so emotional and raw. I absolutely love it. This is my favorite book that I have read so far this year. Im so glad that Veronica and Alaric finally got their happy ending. Definitely recommend but PLEASEEEE make sure you read the trigger warnings:).
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This was my first foray into the series and I actually ended up downloading all of them so I would know where I was at. they all did just fine on a text to speech reader and were quite easy to listen to. The writing was very well done, the characters were very well drawn and for those who are not super hyped on the erotica the story itself is very well written and engaging even without the sex.
The premise of the consortium and the order is very interesting and this book in particular I liked the fact that everybody thought the one thing about Veronica and they were wrong. It is a premise that you will have found in various other books, though I did like how this author chose to go about it.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I always recommend for everyone to read the trigger warnings before reading a book, especially with this book in particular!
I could not put the book down for a second. This book’s world is built around a very dark secret society for the wealthy. The prey are just that, prey.
Victoria is such a misunderstood character. Especially by her crush Alaric. But when her friends start pricing things together, my heart exploded by the sense of protectiveness that they had for her. The spice was spicing. Alaric was mouth watering throughout the entire book. Loved him on his good days, but especially his bad days.
This is a very dark romance. 100% recommend and cannot wait for the next book to come out!
Unfortunately I didn't know this was a series so a lot of it was hard to understand about the backstory.
However the story about the main characters was good! Dark so read the tw.
I feel for Veronica. She has suffered so much at the hands of others. I cried for her.
Alaric is an asshole. I really hate him in the first half of the book but then he investigates and hate what he have done to her. Offcourse in a (dark) romance the 2 leading characters doesn't talk about all the things that happened but they go round in circles with each other. That give al lot of steamy moments. The growth of Alaric is fantastic the second half.
Just read it!
