When Hugo is imprisoned on a charge of treason and Neve is accused of witchcraft by a spiteful rival the Everlys must put their scruples aside in order to save their family and make a bid for freedom. However, their decision will alter not only their own future, but change the lives of everyone they hold dear. Can they escape in time, and will those left behind pay the ultimate price for their loyalty?
The Wonderland Series comes to an end in this gripping last installment.
To write a novel was a dream of mine since I was a child. Life, my practical nature, and self-doubt got in the way, so it was decades later that an opportunity to write finally presented itself. I honestly didn't think I had what it takes to write a full-length novel, but once I faced the blank screen and my fingers touched the keyboard, everything disappeared except my characters and their surroundings, and suddenly I knew that this was what I was born to do.
Since then, I've written many books and have enjoyed some positive reviews, but sometimes, when I stop to reflect, I'm still amazed that I'm living my dream.

I have read all 5 books in the series and they have captured my imagination from start to finish. I am so pleased that the author has announced that instead of finishing the series with this book as intended, she has been overwhelmed by requests to write a sixth book. The series involves time travel, so different to what you expect, which usually involves sci-fi and lots of gadgets. It comes in the form of an accidental pressing of a button one of the main characters and then the story unfolds. Never, a location scouts for film and television wanders into the 17th century nearly gets run over completely by the handsome Lord Hugo Everly. Here follows stories of intrigue, political drama, travelling to the continent, mistaken identities and a whole host of other incidents and action required in a different countries, English politics, changes in the royal family and how it affects each of the main characters. I just loved the lives of the people involved and the impact on all of them as a result of Hugo's decisions. I could go on but this would result in giving away some of the plots and I would hate to spoil it for others. If you get a chance to read this magical series, please do, you will not be disappointed.
The 5th and final installment for this series, Comes The Dawn, wraps it all up in a nearly perfect ending.
This book is not a stand alone. To appreciate and put together all that has transpired, it would be highly recommended to start with book 1.
A beautifully well written historical fiction blended with the 21st century - courtesy of a secret passage found in an ancient crypt that made traveling back through time (more specifically the 17th century) a reality, fraught with extreme peril and danger to the only rare few who knew and experienced it.
Just finished listening to the complete Wonderland series. Wow!!! This is now my favorite time travel series. Truly well written and I fell in love with all the characters. They feel like family! I'm going to miss Neve, Hugo, Francis, Archie and Jem. I've read/listened to many time travel novels and this is top notch.
I really enjoyed this novel and felt that it was a good ending to this series. I really liked this series from the beginning and loved how time travel worked in this book. The characters were engaging and I cared about them. Overall this was a great series and good ending novel.
The story really ended for me at 33 percent. The rest of the story was a side show that couldn't keep my interest. I slimmed through most of the book to get to the happily ever after part. I'm glad it finally has an ending
This 5th (and theoretically last) in the Wonderland series starts out right where the cliffhanger in the 4th book ended, and the excitement just keeps going. It's a good wrap up to the series. To avoid any spoilers, I will leave it at that. If you like time travel books and English history, you might want to read this series, but start from the beginning!
What do you read after reading all the Outlander books and TV show ? I found this book series engaging. Ms. Shapiro found a piece of British history that fit in between The Tudors and Outlander. This series inspired me to study the years between Queen Elizabeths death and monarchs William and Mary. I hope fellow Anglophiles will give this author, New to me, a go.
An excellent series from start to finish, cannot praise it enough.worth ten star rating, looking forward to the sixth book.highly enjoyable and highly recommend.
I am doing a summary review/comment on all five books in the Wonderland series here.
Summary: Neve Ashley is at Everly Manor scouting the house and grounds for a film crew. She meets the Lord of the Manor, Maximilian Everly. He greets her warmly, knowing that his finances partly depend on publicity for the manor tours. Over the time she is there, Max develops an attraction to her, but Neve doesn’t return his affections. This will eventually become quite problematic.
While exploring the nearby church and crypt, Neve accidentally pushes a button on the wall that opens a passage back to the 17th century. Curious, she borrows appropriate clothing from the manor’s stores and wanders back into the past. There she meets Lord Hugo Everly, a distant ancestor who bears a striking resemblance to Max. Hugo is much more charming and gentlemanly than Max. Neve and Hugo fall in love, which makes Neve choose a life in the seventeenth century. Although she adapts well, she isn’t prepared for the dangers that eventually threaten both of their lives — over and over.
Comments: A couple of months ago, I joined Audible Escape as an add-on to my Audible.com subscription. At only $6.95 a month, I figured it was worth a try–plus I got the first month free in a promotion. I’ve never been much of a romance reader but I did enjoy the Outlander series many years ago. The Wonderland series has many of the same themes — time travel, love and romance, danger, disasters and very likeable characters. I listened to most of these while not sleeping. I discovered long ago that my hereditary insomnia is best treated with audiobooks, which keep me from fretting about being awake in the middle of the night!
I not only thoroughly enjoyed these books, but am looking forward to reading/listening to more by this author. Eva Kaminksy’s narration was perfect, too.
Overall, the books express the ideas and feelings of love and romance more than being overtly hot and heavy. If my memory serves me correctly, the few sex scenes in the book are between married people.
Additional remark– I confess I’ve gotten addicted to Audible Escape! I am discovering tons of new books and will be listening to and reading more romances in the future. I’ve also recently discovered a great blog for romance readers, Smart Bitches, Trashy Books.
Highly recommended for readers of Historical Fiction, Time-Travel Romances and Historical Romances.
Very absorbing saga that was difficult to put down
I read all 5 books in succession following the adventures of a man from 1685 and a woman from 2012. Once you accept the idea of a portal between the two years there are lots of great ideas about managing the transition from one era to another, details of 17th century life not to mention some swashbuckling events set against the backdrop of the Glorious Revolution, Louis 14th at Versailles and the reign of William and Mary. However for me there are some really irritating editing and research problems. The author is a Russian now resident in USA and she does pretty well to describe English country life but I don't understand why she slips into American English, especially in dialogue. It's autumn not fall, babies receive feeds not feedings, NHS GPs don't offer pro bono consultations, you don't need a midwife certificate to register a birth in the UK and so on. The language used, especially in 17th century, often has modern words which are out of place. A good British editor should have corrected all these before publication, not to mention missing and misspelled words. So 5 stars for the story but minus one for editing.
I loved this final installment of Neve and Hugo’s time traveling historical romance with a side of painful life lessons. Once again, the story hooked me in immediately and took me along for a quite an emotional and suspenseful ride right up to the conclusion. All their storylines and character arcs were concluded by the end. The story started where the last book ended. Hugo has once again been accused of treason and taken to the Tower of London and Neve has been accused of witchcraft. It’ll take the resources of everyone to free them both and finally find some calm normalcy in all their lives. The story once again has a number of chapters from secondary characters’ POVs which is a great tool for advancing the narrative of the story. Interwoven with Hugo and Neve’s love story, there is thought provoking social and religious icommentary which adds interesting layers to the plot. Just like the other books in this series, the storyline was imaginative, the characters were real and relatable, and the writing was captivating as shown through mysteries, sweet moments, light spice, laughs, messy families, painful pasts, surprises, danger, plot twists, fate, and love. I loved this series and will miss the characters.
It’s once in a blue moon that I finish a series and still feel spellbound. The characters of these books were brought to life in such a way that they feel as if I knew them, that they are a part of me, living and breathing. I laughed, cried, and celebrated with them, and at times felt just a murderous as they did. The many protagonists in this story, came to their ends in such a satisfying and sometimes deeply moving ways. For some of them, there was a twisted sense of redemption. In a way, this series touched on some of the most heartbreaking unjust tragedies of the 16th century, the poverty, violence, and loss that was frequent in that time, which was heard to read. I’m hoping for more news on Jem, he was such a intrinsic part of this series, but was nearly forgotten at the end. I will read this again, the audibles are beautifully narrated.
I sometimes have a hard time reading Irina’s stories due to the pain and suffering people go through regardless of the century. The Echoes From the Past series were so interesting but had that aspect. I had to read the whole series. This series was “fantastical” and I appreciate a happy ending even in the face of loss. Irina is a gifted story teller and brings the reader through each situation in such a way as to experience events almost like it’s first hand rather from afar. Thanks, Irina. We’ll done!
As a lover of Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series, I pretty much like anything to do with time travel. Not the case with this series, and love would even be to mild to describe my experience. I devoured it word by word, found it impossible to put down, a constant (although very welcome) distraction and a thoroughly enjoyable journey through time. The characters were soo real, I loved each and every one. I have read and enjoyed many of the authors books (and will continue to do so), but this series was truly outstanding. Thank you Ms. Shapiro.
Damn this series really put me through the emotional wringer.
I've always been so intrigued and mesmerised by period dramas. That period always fascinated me but reading about what women endured and how life probably looked like is a reality check. It was a stressful series no doubt. So much tragedy which would often befall people during that era... Damn..... but was it well written! I fell in love with Hugo... so Noble and admirable. If only there were more modern men like that. It was highly interesting and I'm glad I saw it through as it ended beautifully
I absolutely loved this series which, in my opinion is even better than the hands of time series. It was full of twists and turns and just when you thought you had it all figured out, there was another twist leading you in a different direction. I just fell in love with Hugo and Neve and the people who loved them. This is the kind of story that stays with you for days
I was very happy at how this series ended. I will miss these characters so much. I was so immersed in their lives that all I wanted to do is read to see how it would all end. I have looked into other seried by Ms. Shapiro and will probably start on those. I already read "The Lovers" and liked it very much.
What a wonderful premise and the characters are rich as is the history and insight. Each book weaves the tapestry of the story into a rich image with such depth as to transport you into the past and back to the future with insight to human nature, warts and all!
A fantastic ending to this series keeping us on the edge of our seats until the end. Lots of twist and turns. This is a definite go-to book for Outlander fans. I listened to this on Audible and the narration was outstanding. The entire series was well constructed and the characters came alive. I really didn't think I'd miss them as much as I did when book five ended. I highly recommend.
A fitting ending to the series. As usual, the characters come alive and act as they should. Don't want to give any spoilers. The series, itself, is worth reading. Four stars and a bit more. I didn't care for the romance part in the first four books. But, in the fifth, the author didn't waste time on romance too much. It was suspenseful and a lot was happening.
All I can say is this was a Fantastic series. Do well written. I was hooked from beginning to the very end.. The Author, Irina Shapiro knows how to write. I hope she writes more series on Time -Travel. I love England’s History ..
I would definitely recommend this Series to any Adult. This is a MUST READ!!
Very much enjoyed the series and will look up more from this author!! The final epilogue from Jem was a bit of a shocker!! So did NOT see that coming!! (😱 I read this book as part of my Kindle Unlimited subscription (free book but I have to pay £8.99 a month for the subscription)
I have now read all of the wonderland series and they are definitely page turners. This book had me from the first page I couldn't put it down. I loved all the characters they were so believable and I love the fact they were all together in the end. Except jem but that one will be my next book.
Outstanding finish to the Wonderland Series. I read all 5 books over a few days, thoroughly caught up in the characters and the events they lived through in both the 17th century and present day. Great books!
This author did a wonderful job creating this series. The plot was superb, the characters touch you in a special way, and was spelled binding form start to finish. Thank you Irina Schapiro for a wonderful adventure.
This series has totally drawn me in and her characters seem like friends. The ups and downs of their lives and struggles making me laugh or cry along with them. I hope to share many more adventures with them.
