Loved trying a new author and meeting some fascinating and sexy characters.
I had a great time diving into this new series and meeting some new characters. They were very dynamic and full of personality.
There was potion brewing, spell casting, magical mafia, spurned lovers and steamy fun times. There is lot to get your bearing for and I can't wait to see what Finn, Erick, and Riley get up to throughout this series.
Riley just wants a fresh start and to get away from her past. Alas, it's not to be when a secret from her past gets discovered by a magical mob boss, and he's not the fun kind! This throws her into orbit with Finn, a book shop owner with shelves full of information, and Erick, a cocky criminal, who has his eye out for interesting things happening in his city. Oh, and these two hunks are ex-lovers... so there's that.
They will all have to band together to dodge the mafia and help Riley release herself from a tracking spell. Which leads to many hours "researching" together.
Overall I really enjoyed this first entry. It had a lot of things I like, especially when building a poly relationship. The connections take their time to build and we don't rush into physical situations. But I was still compelled to keep reading.
I was a little confused by the world and it's set up, but I think that's partially my fault because I was eager for more scenes with these three together. They had great chemistry and good banter between all of them. Especially the ex-lovers, where you can just feel the tension and longing. Riley throws a good wrench into it all.
I recommend this read and I will be continuing the series for sure.

Now, this was a DNF for me at about the 68% mark. I personally had a difficult time getting invested. I did read this at time when my mental headspace was struggling due to world events though so I may try again someday.
