He’s also my adopted daughter’s father, the biological dad who walked away…

HER

Even if that means working undercover at her birth father’s company.
James Garris is the grumpy billionaire who wanted no part in my daughter’s life,
Desperate to look out for my little girl, I turned to less traditional methods of finding the information I need.
Maybe it’s dishonest, but it’s about time this guy had a taste of his own medicine.
I just need to get in and get out, and let him forget all about me,
Just like he forgot about his daughter…

HIM
Billie is my newest hire, and already proving to be a thorn in my side,
Something about her intrigues me, but I know better than to go chasing,
I have a bad reputation, and I’m definitely not boyfriend material,

But when an opportunity arises to swap the office for Hawaii a few days, she’s the only person I want to take with me…

Gosh this book 😂 I just can’t.

The beginning is ridiculously rushed. The kid is diagnosed with asthma, the heroine calls her best friend who weirdly mentions a DNA test for disease predispositions and the heroine goes through with it.

There’s so little fillers in that book the writing feels choppy and off. Like it’s missing pieces to make it flow properly. Case in point: It literally skips from the heroine applying for a job to the heroine being shown her new workplace - for real 😬 🤯

Also - I very much doubt a billionaire would get his DNA tested and keep that info public and available for whoever gets tested. Pretty sure they’re kind of big on privacy and not having leeches come after them claiming to be family or ‘relatives’ needing this or that.

About that new job - there are probably thousands of employees but the heroine will be working for his company and obviously see him often 😂

And that project that makes the hero notice her? She gives stupid ideas lol

Haaa. I just can’t. I feel like this has been written by a 13 yo. Which would be fine if I was younger but I have so little interest at my age lol

DNF @25%.

Annoying.

I wanted to be super mad at the heroine and the bio mother of the child. But I could only work up annoyance.

While the premise was excellent, the writing was clumsy and elementary. I'm not looking for Shakespeare when I read fiction, but a few more compound sentences with some prepositional phrases and action verbs would have been nice.

Now about the premise - women who keep children from their fathers because they don't like their fathers are disgusting. I didn't feel sorry for either woman. And the biomom was particularly revolting. I could understand the heroine more, as she was going solely off what she was told, but she hid the truth far too long.
The hero having to apologize and grovel at the end? Pffft. No thanks.

His Long-Lost Baby was about Billie Hackett, a graphic designer, and 38-year-old James Garris, CEO of GarrisTech.
When Billie learned she would not be able to have children, she and Kevin, her (now ex) fiance, decided to adopt. Halfway through the process, he decided he wasn't ready to be a father, so he left Billie. She continued with the adoption and ended up with a beautiful three-month-old baby girl. Six years later, Billie had rushed her daughter, Quinn to the emergency room with breathing issues. During the exam, they were told Quinn had asthma. It was a rude awakening for Billie because she suddenly realized she didn't have any medical history on the birth parents of her daughter. The birth mother had died, and Billie had been told the father wanted nothing to do with the mother or the baby. However, for her daughter's sake, she decided to do a genetic test on her to see if she could learn anything useful. When the results were back, she found out that the billionaire James Garris was the birth father, and she let her BFF talk her into going to work for the man in order to find out anything she could that was relevant to her daughter's health.
The longer the two main characters worked together, the closer they got. However, there weren't many spicy scenes, so it was a slow burn. It was nice to read how the two matured and grew as their relationship went through various changes until it reached the HEA. It was a rocky path, but worth reading till the end.
The MMC was definitely a closed-off jerk for most of the story, but once things were explained, it was...almost acceptable. Almost. The FMC could have avoided a good deal of heartache if she had just opened up to the MMC sooner. But then we wouldn't have had the story, right?
It was interesting to read the portion where the MMC finally realized how much of an A$$ he had been for most of his life...to everyone and watch as he metamorphosed into a better man. The angst was high, the drama was OTT, and the chemistry was spicy. The book earned a five-star rating and a place in the Keeper for the Shelves collection.

DNF at 19 %.

Let’s be honest, not all good books get the foundation right. Sometimes laying the groundwork of the story and initially engaging the reader can be hit and miss but we trudge on and it gets better and we are happy we pushed through the birthing pains of the first few chapters. We end up satisfied searching for our next hit from that author. Well at 19% I can already safely say this is not one of those because there was no attempt to even lay a foundation in the first place upon which to build this story.

If you insist on reading feel free to skip the first 47 pages after reading the below. They are a waste of time and words. One could have easily set the same tone and passed on the same information by having started with a few bullet points. They have been summarised as choppily and basic as they were written:

Some basic information was spit out just so you know the age (6 yrs) of the child (Quinn), when (3 months), why (single mom died) and by whom (Billie) she was adopted and that she has had one asthma attack which makes her adoptive mom suffer guilt from not knowing her child had asthma before she even had her very first attack. This leads her to genetic testing because good parents must prepare and know everything is advance. That is the most effort put in to providing a foundation to this story. Billie finds billionaire James (biological dad) through DNA test because billionaires obviously leave their DNA hanging around in such databases and despite no mention of the child looking like him his name is enough to identify him as THE James Garris (because no one else in the world could possibly have the same name). One Internet search later mom is a lusting teenager despite this man having apparently abandoned his child and being known as an ass. One thought and two sentences later she works for him so I presume she just up & closed her own graphic design business?! Her new manager instantly insinuates she’s there to be with him first thing on her first day and then she gets stuck with him in the elevator (great first day!) where she already starts committing his scent to memory & fumbling to speak in his awesome gorgeous presence. He has an impressive tech company but the graphic design team works just outside his office so she is always close (really convenient!) First team meeting where she gives lacklustre ideas for a designer in two sentences gets her praise & has him just as smitten that he cannot focus on his usual lunch order…..

You are welcome! I just saved you 47 pages! Dished and diced as poorly as it was written.

His Long Lost Baby (Olympus City Hunks)

*******SPOILER ALERT *****
I absolutely love reading Layla Valentine books! She blends the right amount of romanticism and eroticism in her books.
This book is different than many of billionaire meets girl and she gets pregnant. This is different. This is about a Mom, Billie, who has had to rush her child to the ER. Turns out she has asthma but she realizes because she is adopted she doesn't know. Then she is told about an app to use DNA to find siblings and family members. Billie was hoping to find anything. And it hit. On Quinn's father, James Garris. Billie applies to Garris Tech and gets in. She is a graphic designer. In a field of them. One comment at a meeting gets her recognized by Garris. He has her spearheading a project he is the brainchild of. She takes it a step further with Graphic design. He starts to feel for her and vice versa. He asks her on a trip to Hawaii.
I am going to leave it there because although it sounds like I spoiled you, the best is yet to come!!!
This is an absolute MUST READ!
Let me just say, I have 2 adopted cousins and I really appreciated this story so much because my cousins were always around as we were younger. Also since one of my adopted cousins had a health risk but there was no where to turn.
Made me really appreciate all the sides to this story.

Their Complex Forever -
Billie was only trying to find medical information about her adopted daughter when she got the job at James’s company, so she never expected to find herself engaging in passionate encounters with him. James had resigned himself to never having long term relationships, but he felt a connection with Billie, that he tried not to pursue. However, everything changed when they spent time getting to know each other better, which led to a night of mind blowing pleasures.

Unfortunately, James received information that turned his life upside down and on top of that he discovered Billie had kept a very big secret from him. The life changing news really shook James to the core and derailed their budding romance, but James realised after time apart that he wanted a forever with Billie, so he took steps to make it happen.

I really enjoyed reading this awesome book. It is s great story written by a brilliant author, that will keep you entertained as you turn the pages. This is a definite must read book, that left me wanting more.

2.5 ⭐️ Needs Improvement

When I read the blurb, I thought it sounded like an interesting take on a baby trope.

There was a lot of promise, and the overall plot was decent, but there are a lot of improvements needed to make this an enjoyable read.

While the story flowed well and the writing itself was decent, the amount of completely unbelievable scenes and the obvious lack of research in corporate and tech business life were apparent. I almost DNFd when the “tech genius” deleted an important file the night before the presentation.

Now, the characters, while they could be likable, they’re both very self-centered and flippant at times. One minute, they’re having deep thoughts about their morals; the next they’ve forgotten it and move on.
There are also no character descriptions, not even how old they are which made it really difficult to engage and immerse with them. She looks at his picture online, and instead of saying why he is hot, she just says that.

I hope this feedback is constructive.

Too little too late

The description about the book was inaccurate. It's not " Nanny trope". That was okay. It is well written no extreme plot or grammar errors. I realize it is fictional. The problem for me was with the characters.
In real life the red flags were so many it would have been a run away as fast as you can situation after the first day....but it's fictional so I adopted a " go with the flow " attitude but chapter 25 killed the book for me. It was another abrupt mood change that it would have taken a Lot in real life to get past. Perfect opportunity in chapters following 25 for the author to make this an outstanding book by either having the characters do some hard work on their relationship or for the " Grand Romantic Groveling " gesture.
Instead the reader is cheated! All we get is " my bad". A super lame apology. After that there's an attempt to woo the reader back in with sex but it was way too little to late.
I no longer cared about the characters and speed through the rest of the book. Very disappointing.
I don't recommend this book.

After a health scare with her adopted daughter, Quinn, Billie decides to go to work undercover in her father, James's company to learn what she could about his medical history. The birth mother's deceased, but she never wanted the father involved so Billie did a DNAU test for medical information discovering her father instead. Being desperate she embarked on the biggest challenge ever to gain the information needed for her daughter. She got a job as a graphic designer with his company, and she was soon designing a project one on one with him. In the beginning, they were like oil and water, but soon the oil seemed to dissipate, and they became more harmonious on all fronts. A wonderfully, beautiful story as James discovers a life that he never thought he wanted or that he would have.

This is a powerful story about trust and how at any minute you can lose everything. But friendship, fellowship, respect, commitment, communication along with shared love allowed one to refocus and consider what is important i e what’s important for Quinn and so love does conquer all

Enjoyable romance. Billie's adopted daughter has a health scare and she determines to find out her family history when there is a match to her father on a DNA database. There follows a development of their up and down relationship when she gains a jog at his company in an effort to 'research' his family's health.

James and Billie

Got 48% in and called it quits - Billie is an idiot, I don't understand her hatred of James. And for the record, no school nurse can hand out medication. Waste of my time!

Great

A great and interesting read. I loved the storyline and found it amazing how the DNA app brought them together. Loved the little girl. My favorite part was when she met her father and touched his face saying she was waiting for him. It was beautiful and heartwarming.

Ok read

I found the storyline to be a little mundane. Not a gripping book, but nonetheless ok. It became predictable half way through.

Great read

I liked this romance because it was not the average everyday run of the mill boy meets girl. The plot was different and the characters were relatable.

but with likable characters. . The heat factor between the 2 main characters was about a “6” on a 1 to 10 scale. Good thing it wan a free kindle Unlimited book.
