Throughout this series of books I’ve been torn…the lifer mystery aspect I like but I just cannot stand Freya. Her character is completely insufferable and her behaviour at times beggars belief, makes the love story between her and Ben completely unbelievable and puts me off reading these books.
Also as a Scottish person, the use of the word “wee”, often in the incorrect context just infuriates me!
I thoroughly enjoyed this British crime thriller where the team are faced with such a tangled web that results in numerous twists and turns. In addition, Freya's past threatens, while her relationship with Ben is rocky at the same time as current threats wait behind the curtain.
Although Freya is unlikeable at times, beneath the veneer she is kind, caring and loyal. She has high expectations but most fall foul. The character development is great, each with a distinctive personality and gel perfectly with each other.
Overall, this was a well-written story with an excellent plot, delightful humour and a great sense of place.
Another cracking read from Jack Cartwright. There were so many twists and turns in this story. Cruz seemed to shine a little in this as he was separated from Gillespie. Although for once Gillespie seemed to spout some wisdom for a change! I must admit Freya is starting to get on my nerves a bit with her abrasive nature, especially towards Ben. This was an angst filled tale of love and betrayal between these two, with an open-ended ending.
I may be wrong, but it feels like this may be the last of Jack Cartwright´s Wild Fens books.
Some old, recurring problems are neatly ended.
This book is good, as good as any in the series. The action speeds up at the end, and all is resolved. And if you enjoy Gillespie, then there´s plenty of him here to keep you happy. More than that I cannot say without spoiling things.
As far as I'm concerned this is the end of the series. I can't see a marriage working between Ben and Freya. Nor do I see them being able to work together. I don't want to read about their arguments or disagreements. If this was real life, I wouldn't want to work for Freya.
I sometimes think that the main characters in this series do not know what they really want. Reading the synopsis of the next book in the series it sounds as though Freya is missing from the team, it sounds as though something drastic has happened.I hope Jack Cartwright has not decided to write her out of the series.
Ben and Freya have an argument which leaves her out in the cold. Ben proves what a good detective he really is no with the help of the team he gets the killer. He also proves Freya needs him more than she realises. Looking forward to the next book!
Another good read in the dci Freya bloom series have just got the next one in the series but will be reading the new jd Kirk book first if you like jack Cartwright and haven’t read any of. The jd Kirk books I suggest you do as they are both great authors and very similar
a Woman is found on a trail suffocated and the team will have to unravel relationships to figure this one out and even better Freya and Ben are back together....but with those two for how long is the question. Also it seems like Freya is being targeted by officers from Lincolnshire HQ and Ben is continuing to investigate Freya's Uncles death which is not a good thing.
The characters are phenomenal. The scenes, beautiful. Freya, Ben, Jim - will dig deep into your heart. The ups, downs, ins, and outs, take you on a ride you won't easily forget. A police procedural triumph. A masterpiece of fiction. Very Highly Recommended.
Well done Jack on another brilliantly written book which once I started reading it I could not put it down. I Absolutely enjoyed reading this book and would definitely recommend to other avid readers like me 😊📖
Yet another brilliant book from one of my favourite authors. The characters and plots feel real and the storyline is believable. The use of the Lincolnshire landscape, almost a character in itself, is brilliant and sets scenes that can be easily imagined. These books would make great films.
Another great story, almost feel like part of the team lTrouble is I can’t put the book down when I’ve started. Next one should be interesting! I also used to live in that area so it’s particularly good for me. Jules
3.5 stars As always a good story, although a little too drawn out for me and the erratic and narcissistic behaviour of Freya and Ben's lame response to it is really getting on my nerves now. It took me long to read, that says something too.
Once again Jack Cartwright has given us a really good patterned I couldn't put it down and have already downloaded next book. can't wait to see how Freya Ben and the team get on.
Rather a confusing plotline but stick with it and the main characters show themselves in their true light. Can't wait to find out how the next one takes the story forward. Julian Tremayne, Pocklington, East Yorkshire
It seems to be that this Wild Fens series is a bit like the sea ... peaks and troughs. Hopefully, this trough will lead to a peak, with less relationship storylines and more good old police storylines! A 3-star read at best. Sadly, underwhelmed!
Crikey, I couldn't see that coming. This book provides more questions than answers. Will she? Won't she? What will Granger say? How will they hunt down the rogue HQ cops? Will Gillespie ever clean his car? I'm going to have to start the next one asap ....
I found this a 3.5 * book just because I’m finding the unprofessional behaviour of Freya a bit wearing. Why she hadn’t be moved on due to her poor team handling and moods is never explained.
