Poems are seeds planted in the mind’s mud, buried and forgotten, biding their time. Only to burst out unbeckoned, like wildflowers after a storm. When they do, they pause time and break it open. Like Cohen's crack in everything, through which the light pours. Those that flower are not just tiny autobiographies; they are born out of empathy and the intimacy of shared solitude, experiences and conversations.
Poetry books aren’t always coherent. This collection however unfolds like a map to the secrets of our world and its people, in three distinct sections held together by a fragile thread of beauty. The stasis and ennui of the first section melds into the stifling claustrophobia and endlessness of the second; only to be swept away by the churn and hope of the third.
Sunil is the author of “What Goes into a Butterfly” and occasionally writes for publications like the Hindu, the Businessline and the Wire. The pursuit of writing and long hours spent observing and exploring nature, helps him make sense of his full-time life.
He has a singular way of illuminating the elusive sweet torments that comes with being alive. Sunil writes with a deep reverence for the natural world and a sense of wonder at little things that give us meaning. He is equally irreverent about what we may otherwise deem important.

Poet's masterful use of poetic language weaves together a tapestry of vibrant imagery and evocative expressions, transporting readers into a world of contemplation and profound insight. The poems are written in a clear and concise style that is easy to understand, yet they are also packed with rich imagery and symbolism. The poet's use of language is masterful, and he is able to evoke a wide range of emotions in his readers. It's a collection that will linger in the reader's mind long after the final sonnet is read.
Poetries are sacred and intimate, they carry the words sometimes unsaid and untold. They don't need to say it out loud but in their quiet presence we feel heard. Poetries don't have to be coherent all the time, rather it's how they carry the feelings that touch our hearts instantly and stay by our side throughout our journey. The excerpt rightly said, "poems are seeds planted in the mind's mud, buried and forgotten, biding their time. Only to burst out unbeckoned, like wildflowers after a storm." This is what makes poetries, poetries. "When Ants Grow Wings" is a collection of such poetries and short verses exploring the beauty in the imperfections of being alive surrounded by the cacophony of life.
"There is a wall around me walls around us all. Walls so high, light needs a ladder."
'When Ants Grow Wings" is a collection of poetry exploring different facets of life and experiences that come along with it. The poetries are segregated into three sections. When I started reading this book I was quickly swept away by its muddled uniqueness where I'm understanding what the poetry is trying to convey yet couldn't quite grasp the enormity of it at the same time. It's hard to explain but the variegated use of metaphors renders you clueless about the next surprising element. But this may not work for everyone. But I enjoyed the book and not to mention the arresting quality of writing, it's also the way the poetries are structured and represented makes a whole lot of difference.
One thing I really liked about this book apart from the writing quality is the poet's use of nature as a driving force in this book. This perspective raises so many questions and makes you pondering over it. It can soothe you in many way. I would recommend this book to poetry lovers and people seeking emotional gateway.

It highlighted the importance of crying when needs demand it, and the presentation of it was superbly executed. 📚 That is a recurring quality in all of the poems : notwithstanding the theme, the finish and structure of each is absolutely beautiful. 📚 When Ants Grow Wings is a separate poem in it too, and the motivational tone of the poem (which is arguably in contrast with the usual, proverbial gloom of ants growing wings and inching closer to their death) was very intriguing to me. I think it was a beautiful and befitting choice for the title. 📚 It is a book that would easily engage even a reader who doesn't dabble much in poetry. There is a poem in here for everyone : be it longform, or short, joyful or morbid, one can feel connected to the pages of the book. For me, it has been a glorious and deeply personal experience, and I will definitely be re-reading it often.

When ants grow wings is a collection of poetries that describes about the journey of a human and the nature 🍂
The titles of all the poems are so interesting and so are the poems. They reflect how human body and nature are reflecting each other. The good things and the bad 🎭
The book is divided into different parts just as we have different phases of our lives 🌬️
When Ants Grow Wings is one of my favorite poems from the book. This particular poem talks about how you humans spend major parts of their lives for reaching their goal. Just as the ants waits so long to grow their wings. It's just a few hours of their life that's also the end of it. And yet they prepare themselves with the enthusiasm. Similarly humans work hard all their lives and at the end they die with nothing 🌝
The other poems also share about the similarities between life and nature and how we can learn so much from nature just by observing it 🙂
The language used in the book is easy to understand and the people who are not much into poetry could relate to the words 🤓
What I found best in the different poetries is how humans underestimate their own strength in hard times; Whilst they are being prepared for the best in those difficult times ❤️🔥
The reading experience had been good, but I personally feel the author can do a better job at writing. They have the potential and would love to read more of their work.
This anthology of poems traverses every corner and facet of human existence. The book is segmented into three distinct sections, each commencing with a full-page illustration. The 130 poems within these sections unravel like a map, unveiling the enigmatic secrets of our world and its people. They are divided into three distinct sections, each connected by a delicate thread of beauty.
Certain poems, such as "The Stream is Dry," "Dogslegs," and "Rise," comprise only a few sentences, while others occupy an entire page, and some extend across multiple pages.
The author has skillfully traversed a diverse array of subjects, encompassing not only human emotions but also the natural world, along with a rich tapestry of sentiments. This multifaceted exploration adds depth and richness to the book's content, making it a truly enjoyable read. The author’s words are simple yet profoundly bring out the simplest things in life, weaving the emotions and thoughts into sentences that have a profound impact on the reader. The author employs a language that is elegantly straightforward yet incredibly effective in illuminating the ordinary aspects of life. Their words intricately weave together emotions and thoughts, crafting sentences that possess a deep resonance, leaving a profound and lasting impact on the reader. Overall, a beautifully written anthology that will resonate with the reader long after turning the last page.A 4/5 star read.
A beautiful book of poetry which transcends beyond the ordinary
This book is a set of poems in a sonnet format, lucidly describing life, nature, experiences from a different angle, split into three books(parts). Each part is interesting in its own way.
I have been reading a lot more poetry books read recently. In my reading musings, I have observed poems as snapshots of what the author felt like letting out in the aftermath of an experience, be it a sad one or happy one, what mattered the most is that it was poignant enough to make a mark.
For me, while reading, I have always tried to feel them as an introspection experience. Sometimes I don't need to put an effort, I just slip into them easily. But this book felt different. It wasn't what I expected.
They felt unnerving, edgy. I was stumped for a bit, but then I got curious about what they really meant.
Each one of them felt like a puzzle which needed to be figured out, which made the book even more satisfying to read. Like in one of the poems 'Rise', where the author is writing about his experience of light, I felt he meant he was being rejuvenated from a source of hope. Which forced me to pace my reading out a bit, step back and really read each poem part by part.
The whole experience turned out to be fun, that I started looking at life at a different angle, and made me keep going with the flow a lot more. Each poem felt unique to its own.
Book Recommendation - Definitely for the curious *wink*.

🐜 When Ants Grow Wings by Sunil Rajagopal is a collection of poems that will create hope in your mind. First of all, let's appreciate the thought behind the creation of poetry.
🐜 I may have read many beautiful poems, but I never imagined poems as seeds planted in the mind's mud. The image created in my mind is something I will always cherish.
🐜 The book revolves around various short or long poems, but the impact will last a long time.
🐜 There are feelings that arise after reading all these poems, but the difference is that sometimes you can pinpoint those feelings, sometimes not.
🐜 I love how the author divided the book into three sections, while the first two focus on getting stuck in your mind, having claustrophobia, and being unable to breathe. Those poems will hit your heart with their sense of reality and relatable words.
🐜 The last section will give you hope, space to breathe, and a sense of belonging.
🐜 My all-time favourite poem is "Rag" - the words and their layers are incredible.
🐜 While poems like "Dark Place" and "Facade" will shake your mind,
🐜 One of the most beautiful things about this book is that all these poems feel real, straight from the heart, with raw honesty, which I never felt with any other poems.
🐜 The illustrations are the definition of "picture speaks a thousand words"—so" beautiful and deep.

Someone said is right that we are only bounded by our emotions and thoughts.
Same is somewhere stated in the book when ants gets wings.
The book basically teaches you how one can one grow even if you have an surrounding with all the negative vibes. It not only empower you but points out your mind into a state of self evaluation where you can relate yourself into the situation and figure out whay you needs to do to bring brightness in you live.
This book has three parts and each parts has a moral and point to motivate us But my fav is sec one, because tbh it somewhere holds my personal experience also.
The first will teach you how you can build your routine and escape the past rattrap and enjoy a new life but without holding any past glimpse
The sec part majorly focus on claustrophobic person. I really loved this part while reading I felt like somewhere I had been to this but there wasn't one to hold me hand and help me out
The third part holds the poems of hope and happiness. How you have to overcome the entire dark environment to build yourself and help yourself out.

When delving into Sunil Rajagopal's 'When Ants Grow Wings,' I found myself navigating a poetic labyrinth where each sonnet was a key unlocking hidden meanings. The three-part structure revealed a captivating exploration of life's nuances. Unlike traditional anthologies, Rajagopal's metaphors were not elusive but rather like a whispered revelation waiting to be deciphered.
The first part, a guide to breaking free from the past's clutches, struck a chord. It's a roadmap to crafting a new life, devoid of haunting echoes. The second part, delving into claustrophobia, resonated deeply. It wasn't just poetic; it felt like a personal journey, a hand reaching out in the midst of confinement.
The poet's ability to weave personal experiences into the fabric of the poems creates a sense of authenticity and relatability. Rajagopal's edgy, unnerving verses inspired a curiosity that led me to uncover profound layers of meaning, leaving me with a newfound appreciation for the art of poetic expression.
Book: When Ants Grow Wings Author: Sunil Rajagopal Pages: 201 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Worlds are only made from what we paint"........
From feeling a stranger, to being vulnerable because of your insecurities, living in people's memories, trust issues, self-battles, choices, mistakes, pretendance in today's world our lives the author takes about it all through his beautiful poems. The author knows his way through words and is able to beautifully use them to share some unsaid, unshared feelings.
You'll feel a lot while reading this, my favourite part is how the book leaves you feeling more positive about everything. it is full of inspiration to love ourselves, to move on and to have a better perspective for life in general.
As each poem passes by we, as a reader may start connecting to it, as it's something even we have faced in our lives.
Through his poems the author manages to explain how a person feels about the world, the people and the person himself when the weight of life is to much to carry and there's hardly anyone to look out for. It has kind of a gloomy vibe at places but I loved it overall. But I guess, the cover could've been better. Rest is okay to go.
The poems are apt to depict the rawest emotion of a human being. I would definitely suggest others to go through the poems and dip themselves into the ocean of feelings.

When Ants Grow Wings by Sunil Rajagopal is a beautiful poetry book full of epiphany. The poems talk about our emotions and life. I was amazed to see the poet's imagination level where at one place he defines our nature, where our flower blooms and birds chirp, and, at other places talk about human behavior. A few illustrations add to the beauty of the book. I have mentioned my favorite lines also. While reading the poems you will definitely feel that it is not only the lines you are reading but the real honey is between the lines. With each poem the poet's imagination goes leaps and bounds making it more magical.
"I caught a shooting star by its tail Planted a dream and let it go"
Another poem which I would definitely mention is "Wishes". A short magic for the reader's heart. And to unleash the magic you have to read the book. The atmosphere and the silence the book gives is riveting. The poems are like a fuel to our soul. The author's writing style is eloquent giving you a feeling with his poems. Definitely, the book deserves 5 stars and a full recommendation from me.

🌸My views 🌸
👉 Although most of the poems are a delight to read and offer newfound appreciation for the every day, there were a few that I couldn't wrap my head around.(could totally be a me problem🤷♀️)
Like the poem titled - Dogslegs
"The dog had four legs Till she lifted one to pee And now she has three
If that isn't how I teach my child how to count, How will she ever learn math?"
The attempt to link a dog's behavior to a child's math education appears strained, resulting in a poem that lacks depth, making me question the coherence of its message.
👉I would recommend this one to poetry enthusiasts who appreciate unconventional styles, nature-inspired metaphors, and poetry that evokes deep emotions and prompts introspection.
