This was too small of a bite of a book for me to feel invested in the characters or their romance. It was a quick read with some cute parts as Wyn (h) gets snowed in with Levi (H) at the book store he works at on Christmas Eve. They went to school together and Levi used to tease Wyn because, you guessed it, he had a crush on her and she paid him no mind. There's some slight development of that and how Levi's matured. There's also some hefty mutual physical attraction, one spicy scene, and then they're ending with a HFN on Christmas morning as boyfriend/girlfriend. Might be a good read if you want a taste of the holidays with some steam but don't have time to read much or you want to catch up on your reading goal. But overall, it was too short for me to feel satisfied with them as a couple.

Written in first person, dual POV of h and H. No ow or real om drama (the h is out getting a present for someone she's supposed to be set up with but has never even met or feels any attachment to). Both seemed to be experienced.

"She's my very own Christmas present. And I can't wait to finish unwrapping her."

K.M. GIllis never fails for me. Every book I have read by her (novella or not) has been a 5 star read! How she can get me so invested in her characters in such a small time is beyond me.

I absolutely loved both Wyn and Levi. They are a perfect combination for smutmas!

"I had planned to wrap them after I locked up the store, but there was a crazy last minute shopper and then the power went out..." "Crazy is a strong word." "You did attempt to assault me with a paperback."

You get:
• Enemies to lovers
• One bed
• Holiday novella
• Forced Proximity

"I told you what I wanted for breakfast last night. And I am starving."

On the 10th day of Smutmas....

Eeek, another new author, and I'm so freaking happy about this!

This story was super freaking adorable! Running into someone who you swore was your enemy in school, to find out that he was a bully to you only because he had it bad for you...I mean how could you not fall head over heels for this story?!

Wyn is supposed to head home for Christmas when a snow storm blows through, power goes out, and she's stuck with Levi. Her mother has been dead set on her hitting it off with the surprise guest at the Christmas party, but after spending the night with Levi, Wyn knows who she wants to be with! 🥹

I would love to see a future book with these two! 🖤

I am obsessed! I’m not usually a fan of short stories because there’s either too much focus on the plot and the characters get lost or entirely too much attention on developing the characters and there’s no story. This book is not like that at all! It’s such a perfect balance and so wonderfully written, I can’t wait for more!

If KM writes it, I’ll read it. This was no exception. Love this short little morsel of Christmas cuteness. There was banter and a little bit of animosity, some vulnerability and boom spicy moments. Excited for the V Day novella!

Since There is No Place to Go is book ten in the Twelve Days of Smutmas holiday collection and is the story of Levi and Wyn. This is a short, spicy audiobook novella with close proximity, enemies to lovers, only one bed romance.

Wyn Vixen had hoped for a quiet holiday but her mom has other plans when she tries to fix her up with a friend's son and now Wyn must get a present on Christmas Eve, in a snow storm.

Levi Hart is Wyn's high school nemesis, the former hockey God who's career ended due to a devastating injury. When Wyn walks into Levi's bookstore to buy a present, he cannot stop feeling the attraction he has had to her since high school.

When a snow storm knocks out the power and the roads aren't safe to drive, Wyn and Levi are stuck in Levi's apartment and the tension that has been building since their teenage years ignites.

This was a fantastic, short, spicy audiobook that was a perfect amount of nostalgia and spice. Levi and Wyn had always had a love/hate relationship but Wyn never realized that Levi had always wanted her, he just couldn't express those feelings so he picked on her instead. The story is short so the spice kicks in quickly but you get a glimpse into the reason behind their animosity and how those feelings fuel the fire of their attraction. I would love to see another installment of their story to see how everything plays out but the happily for now was a perfect ending.

The audiobook was narrated by Andi Eloise & E.M. Wylde. Each narrator brough their characters to life, with great voicing and you were able to feel the connection between the characters in the narrators voices.

I received an ALC from Gravity Productions and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

This holiday novella brings together two old high‑school adversaries—Wyn and Levi—in a cozy bookstore setting just as a snowstorm forces them into one bed and one night of reckoning. The enemies‑to‑lovers arc is delivered with playful banter, a mix of angst and attraction, and a warm festive backdrop that elevates the story’s charm. Because it’s short, the emotional journey is lean and moves quickly, which means some character threads feel under‑explored—but the trade‑off is an easy, feel‑good read. If you’re looking for a quick, charming Christmas romance with spice, tension, and that “snowed‑in” trope, this hits the spot nicely.

I recently had the pleasure of listening to the delightful audiobook, "Since There's No Place to Go" by K.M. Gillis, expertly narrated by Andi Eloise and E.M. Wylde. This festive novella proved to be the perfect escape, delivering exactly the kind of charming holiday romance I enjoy.

The story centers on Wyn Vixen, whose hopes for a peaceful Christmas Eve are dashed when she's unexpectedly sent shopping. Her plans take an even more surprising turn when she comes face-to-face with Levi Hart, her high school nemesis. Levi, battling his own personal challenges like a career-ending NHL injury, also grapples with an enduring attraction to Wyn he's never quite overcome. A sudden power outage during a snowstorm leaves them stranded together, coincidentally above a quaint bookshop. This forced proximity sets the stage for Wyn and Levi to confront their past and decide if they'll continue their teenage squabbles or finally reconcile under the mistletoe.

"Since There's No Place to Go" offers a wonderful blend of sweet romance and unexpected spice. The snowed-in, forced proximity trope, amplified by the cozy bookshop setting, was a definite highlight. I particularly appreciated the underlying tension created by Levi's long-held affection for Wyn. Their journey from adversaries to lovers, rich with shared history and engaging banter, was incredibly entertaining. This is a cute, adorable, and quick festive read that I found myself devouring rapidly. The characters quickly became endearing, and I found myself wishing their story would continue beyond the novella's end. Furthermore, the narration by Andi Eloise and E.M. Wylde was exceptional, perfectly capturing the dynamic between Wyn and Levi and enhancing the overall listening experience.

For anyone seeking a fun, quick, and heartwarming Christmas novella that delivers on both charm and a touch of spice, with a strong enemies-to-lovers narrative, I highly recommend "Since There's No Place to Go." It's an ideal choice for a cozy holiday listen.

ALC review for Since There's No Place To Go by K.M. Gillis

Thanks to K.M. and High Gravity Productions for the ALC opportunity!

What to expect: dislike to lovers, small town romance (I'm not sure if it's actually a small town romance but it gave small town vibes so I'm counting it), adult MCs, forced proximity, only one bed, second chance, he falls first

Trigger warnings: this is a pretty quick and sugary sweet read so nothing really stood out as a trigger

Review: 3.5/5

This book has been out for a while so I'm going to skip my usual likes/dislike bullets and just summarize quickly here. This is a quick read for any day. I listened on audio and it clocks in a little over an hour. Definitely light on the spice for those who enjoy the smut and obviously our story moves quickly given its novella limits. I quite enjoyed the story of this one and I appreciated the set-up. Because the characters had a history, it made the story feel more complete even though it's such a brief period of interaction we get to see. However juvenile it might be, I enjoyed the "he teased her because he liked her" origin story.

The narration:
I have followed Andi on IG for quite some time and knew I would continue to enjoy her narrations. E.M. Wylde is a first for me and I enjoyed him. Would definitely listen to him again!

If you want something sweet with a touch of spice for a quick dopamine hit, this is probably a safe place to land.

I got this book as a thank-you gift for ARC reading K's second book and even though I don't have to write a review, I write one for every book I'm reading 😊
Let me be honest, I'm no huge fan of short stories, not even novellas 🙈 But if an author I like writes them, I'll read them 😁 And even though it's not easy to write a review I'll still write it!

Yes, I would have loved it would be longer. I would have loved to read more about Wyn and Levi. They are so cute. And OMG, Wyn's full name 😱🤣 No, I won't tell them to you, if you want to know it, you have to read it!!!
Wyn is on her way to her parents for Christmas when her mother calls. She tells Wyn that Tanner will be at the Christmas brunch. Finally, they will be at the same location so they can meet each other. Mom Vixen is a huge matchmaker and wants to set them up for YEARS. So, now she needs a Christmas present for Tanner, just one day before Christmas!!! The only shop she finds is a bookshop. And who works at this bookshop? Her childhood enemy Levi. And then there is a power failure paired with a snowstorm. So they are snowed in together...
I love his nickname for her, even though she already hated it at high school 🙈
There are so many funny things in this book 😁

Since There’s No Place To Go – K.M. Gillis 🎄🏒
Narrated by Andie Eloise & E.M. Wylde 🎧
Thank you to K.M. Gillis & High Gravity Productions for the ALC 🫶

Wyn Vixen just wanted to avoid the holiday chaos, but Christmas Eve had other plans, trapping her in a blackout snowstorm with her high school nemesis (and secret crush she never admitted to), Levi Hart. He’s an ex-NHL player turned bookstore manager with a broody streak the size of the North Pole. She’s just trying to finish her Masters without decking him in the aisles.

The novella is short (just over an hour audio) but oh-so-satisfying. A perfect mix of cozy banter, holiday warmth, and “well, there’s only one bed soooo…” levels of tension. And yes, there’s mistletoe. And yes, there’s spice. 🔥

🎧 Audiobook magic:
Andie Eloise nails Wyn’s mix of wit and vulnerability, making her voice instantly relatable. E.M. Wylde was a new to me narrator, and I’m officially adding him to my “would listen again in a heartbeat” list. His Levi is all deep warmth and smolder, perfectly matching the injured hockey player with a soft heart vibe. Together, their chemistry makes every line hit harder, the teasing feels sharper, the tension feels thicker, and the heat… let’s just say it melts more than snow. ❄️🔥

This is the kind of holiday romance you can listen to on your lunch break and walk away grinning.

Tropes:

Forced Proximity* One Bed * Enemies To Lovers * Holidays * Cozy Contemporary Romance * 68 pages * 🎧1h05

This was such a short and sweet Christmas novella. The perfect pick-me-up if you’ve got the holiday blues or just need a quick dose of Christmas cheer.

I may have squealed a little when I realized it was set in Canada. Not that it’s a huge surprise since the author is Canadian, but it’s always such a fun little treat to stumble across.

At only 68 pages (or just over an hour on audio), the story moves fast but it’s cozy, charming, and full of festive vibes. I listened to the audiobook produced by High Gravity Productions, narrated by Andi Eloise and E.M. Wylde. You all know I adore Andi, she always turns every story into a performance. E.M. Wylde was a new voice for me, but I’ll definitely be seeking out more of his work.

The enemies-to-lovers arc is light, rooted in their childhood rivalry that’s mentioned in passing. Now that they’re adults, it’s more about nostalgia and spark than true animosity. And when a snowstorm knocks out the power and traps them together... well, cue the one bed and forced proximity magic.

A perfect little holiday quickie that’ll leave you warm, cozy, and smiling. What am I doing next? Obviously more holiday stories.

Wyn finds herself back in her hometown on Christmas Eve, frantically searching for a last-minute gift. The only open shop in town happens to be a quaint independent bookstore. But, to her surprise, the person manning the store is none other than Levi, the high school hockey jock who used to tease her relentlessly. Things take a twist when a snowstorm outside knocks out the power, leaving Wyn with no choice but to accept Levi's offer of shelter until the storm blows over.

"Since There's No Place To Go" is a fun addition to the 12 Days of Smutmas, a collaborative effort by 12 indie authors. While it's a spicy novella, it retains KM Gillis' charming style with lovable characters, witty banter, heartwarming moments, and a sprinkling of cute Christmas puns.

Think of it as your Hallmark Smut experience, and it lives up to the title. Admittedly, it might not be the steamiest book in the series, with the heat cranking up around the 70% mark. But when it does, things get hot! If you're a fan of enemies-to-lovers stories, forced proximity scenarios, cozy one-bed setups, clever banter, and a dash of Christmas humor, "Since There's No Place To Go" is the perfect festive read. So, don't wait—grab this book and dive into a holiday romance that's sure to keep you entertained!

Since There's No Place to Go
By KM Gillis
Narrated by Andi Eloise, EM Wylde

This just hits the spot. Christmas in August for me is a treat and this novella is just the perfect present. Wyn is home, taking it easy for Christmas when her mother informs her a date will be at the house for her and she needs to get a present. Out Wyn goes in a snow storm with a chip on her shoulder and goes to the local bookshop. To make her day, her high school nemesis, Levi is there, gorgeous as ever and is ready to sell her a book. But when the lights go out, and the snow piles on the ground, things take a turn. Maybe Santa has a different idea for Wyn for Christmas! Love this nugget for so many reasons. Just the right amount of romance and spice, a bit of sentimentality and the nickname Levi has for Wyn makes this the perfect listen. KM Gillis had me hooked and it was the perfect length for my walk!

Andi Eloise and EM Wylde are the story tellers and they are amazing. Each scene is spot on with the feels, whether annoyed or loving and the romance just built. I enjoyed this listen and will be looking for more by these narrators.

This is a cute little novella! I'm usually not a fan of novellas because by nature, everything has to move so quickly in them. I feel like despite the quick pacing, KM Gillis did a good job of letting us know these characters as well as we could in 68 pages. I liked the storyline and the things that forced them together.

I listened to the audiobook version of this, and as I knew I would, I loved Andi Eloise's narration of Winter. I love the emotion she puts into each character, and she never fails to have me stop and listen - even when she's doing a live! I believe this is my first time listening to E.M. Wylde and I enjoyed his narration, too! he does a great job of the internal monologue and portraying how the thoughts actually may have been said in Levi's head.

Thank you to High Gravity Productions and KM Gillis for the ALC. All thoughts are my own.

Cue the confetti and hang the Mistletoe! Wynter just happens to run into an old childhood classmate, Levi. She needs a last-minute gift as she's being blind set up by her mom. Both Levi and Wynter get snowed in above the bookstore, and sparks will fly. Levi made fun of Wynter for years, but it was because he wanted Wynter's attention all those years ago. I enjoyed this little Christmas, quick novella.

Andi brought the spirit of Wynter's forgiveness, sass, and spicy attention to this read. EM brought the remorseful and broken but sweet, dirty talker Levi in this read. I only wish there was more story for both to narrated together.

Thank you, Author and High Gravity Productions, for the ALC.

Audio Review:

KM Gillis is such an amazing, quick listen that brings us Wyn and Levi's story. Much like all the other stories, I've listened to her. It is adorable and cute. And I absolutely love the enemies-to-lovers vibe. This story is the epitome of the "he bullies you because he likes you," playground rule. But when Wyn is supposed to head home for Christmas and the snowstorm blows over, and she's stuck with Levi everything is free game. This book was super cute, and I love the narration. Andi Eloise has a voice that draws you in every time you listen to her. You hear her voice and you know you're in for a great narration. EM Wylde was new to me, but his voice did not disappoint, smooth and addictive. I can't wait to hear more from him.

Oh this was so good! Such a perfect novella to start off the holiday season!!! Absolutely 4.5⭐️ (rounded up for Goodreads). I thoroughly enjoyed and loved every minute of this. A very cute snowed in romance novella. Wyn is the model of responsibility and has her Christmas shopping done well in advance. When her meddling mom calls her about a Secret Santa exchange (a set up attempt), Wyn goes to get something easy. She just so happens to run into the guy who made her life a living hell in high school by poking fun at her unusual name. But Levi confesses long held feelings for Wyn while these two ride out a storm together, and things get hot!

This one was so sweet and fun!
