In "Bedeviled" by Nicole McKeon, readers are once again immersed in the bustling city of New London, now facing the imminent threat of a monstrous invasion. Lady Gwen finds herself grappling not only with an impending crisis that no one believes is coming and also with personal turmoil stemming from recent emotional upheavals. As she navigates the complexities of her own grief, McKeon skillfully crafts a tapestry of emotional depth and monster-hunting action.

This is the series taking a breath so that Gwen can process the previous events and it captures her struggle with depression, her familial grief, and her journey toward healing. The exploration of her character's evolution, entwined with the complexities of a burgeoning romance, adds a poignant layer to the story, elevating it beyond a simple story. This is deeply authentic and it shows, especially to those of us who also find a little of ourselves in Gwen. I love each and every single one of these characters and they all enrich the story in their own ways.

The novel's narrative progression showcases McKeon's deft handling of intricate plotlines, offering a compelling blend of mystery, suspense, and nuanced character development. "Bedeviled" not only delves into the intricacies of personal growth and emotional ties but also presents a richly imagined world brimming with intricate lore and vibrant magitech. McKeon's adept storytelling creates a warm and immersive world that I want to live in, fostering a sense of comfort and familiarity within the intricately crafted setting.

McKeon has the prowess of a masterful storyteller, delivering a compelling narrative that seamlessly blends the supernatural with heartfelt explorations of human experiences.

Pick this series up immediately.

Thank you to the lovely author for the eARC. I will continue to scream to everyone about this series forever. This is an honest review.

She did it again! This time the stakes are even higher for our favorite Mary Poppins/Sherlock Holmes, and the ride is as bumpy as it’s ever been. A city overrun by monsters? A conspiration reaching the highest level? A supernatural invasion looming in the distance? Nothing Lady Gwen and the gang can’t handle…or can they?

Once again, Nicole McKeon runs a perfectly oiled machine. The writing seems to get better with every book in the series: the multiple POVs are masterfully executed, the action scenes leap off the pages, the characters and their relationships get denser and denser, with a surprising complexity.

This fourth book left me breathless. A page turner, with a crazy pace (let us catch a breath, Nicole!), and the unraveling of a love triangle that will melt your insides. It’s almost too intense for one book! I found myself looking in the fictional rearview mirror to catch a few more glimpses of the characters we’ve come to love (not enough Sam in this book!). And that’s how I know Nicole McKeon did an incredible job: when, despite a thrilling plot, you’d want even more time with all of them.

Can’t wait for the next one!

Note: as an arc reader for this book, this is my 100% honest review

I was very kindly sent the complete series of these books for an ARC of Bedeviled.

Overall I enjoyed the series I have not read much in the Gaslamp sub-genre but it is one I do enjoy. But it is one I find can be difficult to achieve a balance between fantasy and historical accuracy. I loved the mystery and the way each books events wove together forming a bigger picture. I loved how the fantasy elements interwove with the movement of the Industrial Revolution and the inventions of Delilah

Firstly the positives

The Characters!! I feel like for the most part the characters were really well rounded and had very clear motives.

The children Sally and Sam constantly trying to prove themselves and fiercely protecting Gwen their “found mother” clinging onto their new family for dear life. Sam trying to be a man and protect the ladies while he is still just a child himself just felt true to both his character and the expectations on men in this period.

Gwen was wildly inappropriate for the time but that was her nature and how she pushed back against a society she felt never had a place for her. For a character so intelligent and knowledgable she made some stupid decisions and mistakes and her crusade for her sister blinded her to everything. She was a mature 26-29 year old for the most part of the book but when it came to her sister she was reduced to a scared 16 year old again. It was both a good device for the plot but a tad annoying at times. But it’s good to have flawed main characters.

Tony, now for me he had the most growth and development of any character. He was and is still driven by a strong sense of right and wrong and a fierce need to protect and save the world. He seems like a 2-D character at first just a prim and proper Bobby, but he has depth and complexity in his family and history that made him who he is today. However over time his strict sense of propriety and the bindings of control loosened as he wrestled internally with just how far he was willing to go and what lines he would cross to keep to his calling. I think he may be my favourite character besides Mrs Chapman.

The romance!! Ugh the love triangle in a very loose sense. Both men are brilliant and would love and protect Gwen to their dying breath. I maintain that Tony would have made and excellent endgame love match for her as they could grow and overcome challenges together and he honestly couldn’t have given a shit about her money and title (a thing she claimed was the only thing men wanted her for). Aris is the dark tortured soul. The “I will burn the world to the ground for you guy” and ultimately the choice because Gwen as a character feels she is too dark and broken for someone as good and pure as Tony. I don’t know if that’s a slap in the face to Aris or not.
“But only forever until you’re gone. There’s no point, after that.”

The negative

Americanisms I find this a lot in books written by American authors where the book is either clearly set in Britain or in a world heavily inspired by it and its history. But the volume of Americanisms used just wouldn’t happen in Victorian England (even a fantasy one) we don’t have blocks, sidewalks, trash cans etc. More specifically in Britain a Bureau is a writing desk so when he found clothes in it I was thrown here it is a chest of drawers back then it would have been a dresser. Same with muffins we have English muffins but in context of the conversations it was sweet muffins and they were not in Britain at the time. In the first book a character is described as wearing a Tuxedo. In 19th century Britain they were called Smoking jackets. Tuxedos was exclusively used in america at this time. So even if people had heard it in England a member or the aristocracy would never use that word.

Timeline and historical errors. ( I am aware this is an alternate reality book but it uses know historical events and thus despite the existence of the supernatural follow the same
Timeline of history)

In book one ( Vanished) Gwen dances a Charleston a dance not invented until some 40 years later. I forgave this at first as the town is called New London and I thought maybe it was a future England that had regressed back to the fashions and society of Victorian England however in book three (Spellbound) Jack the Ripper is mentioned as active recently? EDIT : gone over my notes and seen the first book first chapter states the date as 1900. The Charleston was invented in the 1920/30s

In the beginning of Moonstruck the evens of book one are said to have occurred a year and a half ago. In Spell bound the events of book two are said to have occurred six month ago taking us up to 2 years but in chapter two it says the events of book one happened “a little more than a year ago” but by this point it is 2 years and by the end of book four Gwen reminisces over the evens of the last 3 years. To some this wouldn’t be noticed but for me it bothered me and made the timeline less fluid.

I think with Gaslamp fantasy it is so important to get words and historical facts accurate. British English is VERY different from American English and when your story is set in a historical period, using language accurate to the time is so important to immerse the reader into the book so they feel connected to the journey being taken. Each Americanism and historical inaccuracy jolted me out of the story.

In all I did enjoy these books I liked the story and the characters despite the Americanisms and inaccuracies ruining some of the enjoyment. I hope there is a 5th book as I’m not done following the adventures of Lady St. James.

Each book builds from the previous one and this one was just as riveting!! Action packed, edge of your seat stuff right here!! Honestly can’t wait for the next one, I am 100% invested in these characters!!

ARC Review (Thank you so much Nicole for this amazing opportunity)
I am positively stunned.
Story: 5/5
Spice: 4/5

This is the fourth book in the Gwen St. James Affair series, and is just as strong as the rest of the books. It has action and mystery, as well as spice (both wholesome and "fun")

I could barely put this book down. I was absolutely enthralled by the descriptions and the characters. The plot was exciting, and the character growth over several books has been incredible. The romance was executed well, and deserves much praise.

This is another strong work in Nicole's catalogue of works and this entire series deserves a spot on everyone's 2023 read list

"I will never leave you. Never. Could I say it if it wasn’t true?"

Thank you Nicole for sending me the ARC and the opportunity to read this series.

I must admit I didn't enjoy this book as much as the first 2. The love triangle plot dragged out a bit too long, and I also didn't care for the smutty scenes at all. I wish more of the book centered around the mystery of it all.

Aris' POV was a fun read except for when he lusted after Gwen.

I had the pleasure of being an ARC reader for the fourth installment of The Gwen St James Affair.

The bigger plot of the series is picking up speed. More mysteries are being unveiled. The final chapter of the book will leave you wanting the next book immediately. I highly recommend this series to anyone who loves magic, fantasy monsters and the politics and societal norms of Regency England.

Wow. Just wow.

Bedeviled - the forth book in the Gwen St. James affair - with our favorite Sherlock Holmes/Mary Poppins adventurer lady.

After this, I really do believe there is nothing Lady Gwen can't do with her special umbrella and magical friends. Supernatural invasions? That's fine. A city overrun by monsters? A daily task! More conspiracies? Oh well, another one bites the dust...

Nicole McKeon is yet again here to deliver a perfectly written story on our favorite place of all: New London. A magnifically orchestrated place full of hidden gems and secrets as well. The world building is astonishing, just as it has been in the last three books. And for some reason, I can't seem to get enough! There's always something else to figure out in New London, and I'm all in for it! Embark in a new journey, and new challenges to come as the struggles just get more and more complex.

I must admit, I read all 4 books in the series so far in one go since I got the chance to be an ARC reader for this project (and I am forever grateful for the opportunity).

This one in particular I found to be a bit slower than the last two, though I feel the relationships and the characters are getting denser and overall, more explored. Which is great, because the cast - this cozy and magical found family - is amazing!

Note: The crow will always be the best character, in my opinion. Aristotle should have a fan club, ok?

Besides all of this, I couldn't leave behind the mastery of the multiple POVs, which I believe to give the story another spark of interest. It's a hard task and a fascinating ability to make each character have a voice or their own and multiple POVs are hard to do right. But in this collection? Incredible work, I must say.

Alluring, mysterious and enchanting, Bedeviled marks whoever reads it by its outstanding storyline. I am eagerly awaiting the next book so I can dive back again into the wonderful universe this collection created - The Gwen St. James Affair.

This series is absolutely amazing. From the first book to this one you are completely sucked in! I love that she writes the chapters from different characters points of view! I get so lost in her world it’s hard to come back to reality! Gwen is one of the most fierce women and I can’t wait to purchase physical copies (I read ebooks) to place on my display shelf! This quickly became my favorite series. I can not wait for the spin offs of the supporting characters. I’m also in her fb group so it’s awesome to see the digital art to go with the stories. It feels like a movie when I read her books. I truly can not recommend them enough. I love that each book alone is fantastic with its own story yet the larger picture that ties all four books together. I love watching each character grow and that Nicole doesn’t just focus on the main characters growth. As someone with ADHD and many movies and books under my belt I was pleasantly surprised when I didn’t guess every twist and turn!! I ACTUALLY GOT TO BE SURPRISED!!! If you’re like me you know how rare this is! I also found it soo easy to stay invested and not put it down as I have a tendency to do. This is the by far one of my top recommended series it’s up there with the king killer chronicles and the slater brothers series! This is a boom I will definitely read again!!!

Turn of the century steam punk, Enola Holmes vibes with an interesting magic/supernatural storyline.

I received this copy as an ARC from the author.  After reading all 4 of the books in the series I am conflicted in my review (3.75 if Goodreads gave partial stars).  I love the world that Nichole McKeon has created.  It has evolved and taken on more nuance throughout the series. I find the supporting characters more interesting and want to see their stories.

But I have struggled with the FMC Gwen.  I didn't feel like I could get a good grasp on her because she went from generous and self sacrificing; (a woman who gave over her life to the pursuit of rescue and protection) to someone who was outrageously selfish who had an alarmingly limited amount of self awareness.  I wanted to love her when she struck a balance and the banter was good but it just didn't stay consistent enough for me.

That being said I am ok with not liking every FMC I come across but it did drag things down for me.  Regardless I will be back for the next instalment in hopes that she will settle into herself and we will hear more from the supporting characters like Delilah, Percy, and even Tony (who was a bit of a Tamlin for me in this)

Bedeviled was a real page-turner and it’s so hard not having the next book in the series to dive into right away. The characters have grown so much throughout the series, and I love them all so much. There is still an atmosphere of mystery and investigation surrounding the supernatural forces at play in New London, and I can’t wait to see where their adventures take them next. The world is just so amazing it keeps me constantly coming back for more.

Thank you so much to the author for providing me with an ARC of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own

I was lucky to be an ARC reader for this book so I was able to read before release day. I love this series and the way it is building. The banter remains on point as ever but it’s matured over the books so far in the series. The plot line has been building and this book is the most exciting yet. The wonderful characters have gone from strength to strength. It’s a brilliant book and I cannot wait for the next one already!

If you have read the previous three books in the Gwen St. James Affair series, you can skip this paragraph. For those who have not read those books, you’ve not yet had the pleasure of meeting the indomitable Gwen St. James, lady heiress with notoriously unladylike habits, hobbies, and friends. Even her enemies are unconventional, while her romantic escapades test everyone’s decorum. Lady Gwen truly possesses the iron fist in the velvet glove, and she needs it as much to navigate her fraught social standing as to do battle with her mortal and immortal adversaries in this realm and that of the fairies. Whew. She’s got a lot going on!

Okay, now we’re all on the same page…

This fourth book in the series rings with the same clarity of vision as the first three. The characters know who they are, and they’re having a heck of a time chasing down the storyline. I don’t want to give away any of the plot points here, but I will say that some of the dark moments are shockingly dark. Let’s be blunt: If you enjoyed the first three, you will not be disappointed by Bedeviled. It delivers.

There is some scorching hot interpersonal chemistry, too. I’m not just saying there are sexy sex scenes here, although that is also true. What I am saying is that the way the characters interact is very believable. Our main character is a fighter, and boy does she have a lot to fight for, and about. Family can be as fierce as enemies, politics as savage as wolves, inner demons as harsh as any monster in the real world, all while actual literal monsters give our heroine an array of targets upon whom to unleash her daunting martial skills and cutting intellect. In Gwen St. James’ New London, even facial hair has personality and possibly a tiny bit of agenda.*

One aspect of these books that impresses me, over and over, is that these characters tend to act first and talk about it later. This story is not told by exposition, but by action. It moves fast, and decisively. Some of the plot twists are real doozies, and I found myself worrying about small details on behalf of characters. For example, there is a scene where Gwen is injured and significantly discombobulated, and it actually crossed my mind to wonder where her umbrella ended up in the scuffle. Let me put that last point in another way, to clarify the emphasis: I got so wrapped up in the fight scene and the aftermath that I — the reader — was personally concerned about the main character’s accessories. If that’s not an engaging read, I don’t know what is!

In keeping with the series, this book is essentially a light, humorous, fantasy story. It’s a fast read, fast enough that I was sad when I got close to the end of the story… but totally satisfied by the end. I’m hungry for #5! As a member of a series, it works whether or not the reader has read the three previous volumes. It’s just better if you have. The world-building in the series is particularly adroit, there’s a homey familiarity to it. The author has synthesized elements and aspects of some classics of the various genres she’s blending here, and she’s done it so well that it feels like wearing my favorite boots down a whole new path to adventure.

One notable aspect of this book, the whole series in fact, is that on more than one occasion I read a scene and could clearly imagine it in anime format, or as a graphic novel. The whole thing could be a delightful live action mini-series. The author’s ability to convey the visual in words is impressive, and adds significant enjoyment to the reading.

*My two absolute favorite sentences in this book epically personify facial hair. Salmon Rushdie gave me a taste for this sort of humor, but McKeon nails it beautifully. Twice.

Updated to add crucial info! I was provided at no cost an ARC of Bedeviled. My review is based on reading that; the book might be a little different by the actual date of publication. Still gonna rock, though.

ENGAGING, THRILLING, ROMANTIC FANTASY (A 4.5 stars)

Nicole McKeon’s fourth novel in The Gwen St. James Affair series called Bedeviled is an adult first person multi-POV gas lamp fantasy set in a Victorian/Edwardian era magic-based world full of political, familial, and personal intrigue.

Our strong, decisive, snarky female protagonist, Gwen St. James, is a wonderful mix of Sherlock Holmes and a spicy Mary Poppins equipped with James Bond period-appropriate gadgetry (hints of Steam Punk genre) who appears perfect to everyone except herself. In each book, she has a mystery to solve within the bigger series plot. Which means it can be read as a stand-alone, but will be richer having seen the characters’ growth and development throughout the series. This book, like the others, is set in New London with a partially hidden world of fantastical creatures like in Men In Black. Instead of aliens, we have werewolves (a personal favorite), vampires, elves, dwarves, witches, and varieties of Fae and hybrids.

Beyond the fun of the sleuthing, there is an angsty romantic triangle similar to the Twilight series with team Tony, a muscular blond, highly moral, ex-Scotland Yard detective, pitted against team Aris, a dark lanky raven-shifting Sidhe, ex-assassin of the fairy king. Classic good boy vs bad boy. Guess which one gets the girl. While there is spice, I would classify it as mild. I’m not versed in spicy pepper categories, but there are a couple of brief, tastefully done scenes that would be x-rated as a movie.

This was a delightful ARC read. The world-building is superbly done and presented without info-dumping exposition. Ms. McKeon’s period dialog, description and setting are well researched and a joy to experience. The main characters are fleshed out, likable and relatable. Some of the self-doubt Gwen tenaciously hangs onto can be a bit trying and there are a couple spots where the action-fight scenes could use a little tightening for clarity and pace. Overall, this is an extremely well written, easy-to-read gas lamp, mystery, romance, fantasy story which I highly recommend.

Anyone who enjoyed the first three books will certainly enjoy this one. Fans who enjoyed An Accidental Alchemist series by Gigi Pandian and/or the Alice Skye series by Taylor White will most likely love McKeon’s Bedeviled and The Gwen St. James Affair series.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest, free review.

***

The book starts a months after the third book ended and we get a glimpse into much darker New London. Monsters are emerging from shadows and Gwen is battling not only them, but her own self in a way. When we met her at book one, she was a different person than she is in this book and she carries a lot of trauma and despair on her shoulders. With Aris, Tony and the children, it might come down to the gravest fight Gwen has encountered. And it will not come without a cost.

Nicole was able to weave yet another amazing chapter into the story of Gwen St. James and I don’t think I could’ve seen it coming even if I tried. There are tons of different twists in the plot that will leave you audibly gasping as the story moves on and we understand more about the chess pieces that move on the board. And there are a lot of chess pieces, pretty much all we’ve met before which I really like. Even if we didn’t know-now all the characters deeply, the way they got into the narrative is fantastic. I’m so happy I’ve read these pretty much back to back because I can really appreciate the genius in these previous encounters.

So the story is packed to the brim with action and fantasy elements. But I really love how human Nicole has managed to make the characters, especially Gwen. She has been changed by the events of past and I really enjoyed how she slowly began to realize it. So set in her ways, I think this journey of self-discovery Gwen went though in this book made perfect sense. Tony and Ari’s too have grown during these times and so have Sam and Sally too. I love seeing all of them grow and evolve.

The ending left me gasping. I didn’t see that happening, omg?!?! I knew it was going to be big but not that big. Holy moly. I can’t wait to see what happens next and I am already eagerly awaiting book number 5.

The romance portion has me twisted, I’m not going to lie. I think I went through my own heartbreak in this book and I sort of wish I’d known all this beforehand. It would’ve saved my poor little heart 😅 But I do think the romantic part did work and I’m not too mad (but a little since I wished differently) and especially in the end, I could see the love brewing. So I guess I’m okay with it.

Bedeviled book four of the Gwen St James Series, by Nicole Mckeon sees our heroine once again patrolling the streets of New London on the look out for monsters, (and there are many more new ones!!) who are prowling the shadowy alleys and streets of the city.

The book starts a short time after the third book ended and New London seems a much darker place. Not only is Gwen fighting monsters but she has some demons of her own to fight. Her sister is ignoring her and two men are trying to get her affection, and she has two teenagers in her life, who are coming into their own and if that’s not enough there is about to be an invasion of faeries.

It is so easy to become completely immersed in this world created by Nicole’s writing and narrative, and the character development is at times intense, each of them having to come to terms with their emotional growth. Gwens character is, strong but she also has flaws and she is just now learning to accept that she has a family and friends that love and support her…..when society didn’t!!!!

This book is action packed, to the point where I was worried our heroine would not survive, the chemistry between certain characters was explosive, and at times I wanted to cheer out loud and then cry hysterically and…
THE ENDING!!!!!!!

If you love a good fantasy/romantasy story, with a strong female MC, lots of Magic/Mystery and Mayhem, and some spicy romance this story does not disappoint, I would recommend you read the previous books in the series first Vanished, Moonstruck and Spellbound.

I had the honor to receive this book for free as an ARC reader, and this is my honest review.

Man, where to start? I went into this beforehand knowing I wasn’t a huge fan of our main protagonist Gwen. But having read the previous books I needed to know what was going to happen next…. I’m glad I did it. I fell a little in love with Aristo. He had to have been my favourite character. So very determined but also able to see Gwens abilities and her for herself. Which was really great to see (I think I’ve been reading too many alpha male books recently).

This book shows us the aftermath of book 3 and how Gwen is coping with the whole situation with her sister(not well and it really has an impact on her whole personality which really shines through in this book). Add to this that there are werewolves and vampires attacking the city and the government ignoring this. Gwen in her desperation hatches a plot to make sure that the government can’t sweep the problem under a rug. I don’t want to say too much more as it would spoil it but I really needed to mention the ending. I almost screamed when I got to the end. It was a real cliffhanger and now I have to wait to see what happens next. Which is both good and bad. Bad that I have to wait. Good that I have become really invested in this story and I need to know what happens. Gwen still grates on me (but I think that’s a personal thing) but she has also grown on me. I can’t wait to see what happens next! Well done Ms McKeon you have me hooked!

Please note that there is some sexual content that isn’t appropriate for younger readers. I would give it a 3 spice rating (several sexual scenes contained within the book)

“I would sacrifice this city and everyone in it a hundred times before I would let harm come to you.”

This quote is the embodiment of how I feel about this series and Gwen St. James. Every single time I pick up one of these books I am in literal awe of the author’s ability to have everything come to life. The character development from Vanished to Bedeviled is stunning and I am so excited to see what happens next - especially after that cliffhanger dragged me to hell and back.

The action: intense; edge of your seat; read this in one sitting; (side note - I have work in four hours and still need to sleep)
The mystery: absolutely captivating! I’m loving watching the threads of the conspiracy/invasion become unraveled. Then BAM 💥 a whole new twist!

Gwen’s love for her family is one of my favorite things to read about and although her stubbornness drives me nuts sometimes, I can’t help but love and feel for her. Sally and Sam have grown so much from when they first came to live with Gwen as well. It’s crazy to me how much they’ve grown and changed. I enjoy getting to see Sally’s pursuit for knowledge and Sam’s protectiveness (albeit I definitely needed more Sam in this one).

Lastly (as always) Gwen and Aris have my heart and I’m not sure if I’ll ever get it back. 🐦‍⬛❤️

4.5/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨ Sending a huge thank you to the author for an advanced reader copy!!

"Bedeviled" by Nicole McKeon is a gripping and suspenseful read that keeps readers on the edge of their seats from start to finish. The story is packed with intrigue, mystery, and a sense of impending doom that makes it hard to put down.

The novel introduces us to well-drawn characters and a well-constructed plot that keeps us guessing at every turn. The pacing is generally excellent, drawing us deeper into the mystery as we follow the protagonist's quest for answers.

What truly stands out in "Bedeviled" is its ability to build and maintain tension throughout the narrative. McKeon's writing keeps the reader engaged and invested in the outcome, making it a page-turner that you'll want to devour in one sitting.

However, the one aspect that prevents "Bedeviled" from achieving perfection is the ending, which feels somewhat rushed. After a slow and suspenseful buildup, the conclusion seems to arrive abruptly, leaving a few loose ends and questions unanswered. This can be somewhat disappointing after investing so much in the story's development.

Nevertheless, "Bedeviled" is a compelling and well-crafted thriller that offers plenty of chills and surprises along the way. Despite the hurried conclusion, the journey through the book is a thrilling and enjoyable one, and it's a must-read for fans of suspense and mystery genres.

Thanks to Nicole for being a beta and ARC reader.

Bedeviled is the fourth novel in the Gwen St James Affair. series. Monsters are stalking the streets of new London and it couldn't come at the worse time. Gwen has to deal with a sister who is ignoring her along with the feelings she has to the two men in her life. She also has to try to warn the city about the impending invasion from the faeries.

Nicole has done it once again. This is another delightful read that I couldn't put down. It has been wonderful following this characters over the course of 4 books. Gwen is stubborn, frustratingly so sometimes but she is growing as a character. And Sam must be protected at all costs. The scenes where she has to deal with her feelings are the ones where I wish I could enter the book to hug her. Loosing her sister and having a horrible ex-fiancee has made her doubt if she can love someone or trust others. She is just beginning to realize that she is capable of love. And then we get to the end and i almost threw my kindle across the room. Need the next book Asap.

The only thing I want is the scenes where
Gwen was learning how to use the wheeled boots and Sam learning to fight from Aris.

This series is a must read for fans of gas lamp fantasies. I cannot recommend this enough.

I have fallen in love with Gwen St. James ever since I read Vanished (Book 1). As I continue the series, I find myself in awe of how much I have fallen in love with Gwen, her found family, and the world that Nicole creates for these books. This is the type of series you ask all your friends to read so you can discuss it.

I was hooked on Book 4 and couldn't put it down. Bedeviled is a more action packed book than the previous books. I was worried early on that I would miss some of the lighter, slower-paced moments, but I found that when I finished the book I was very satisfied with the balance of action and character development. Bedeviled does a great job of diving right into the building plot of the series but you still feel at home and immersed through the chapters.

My only regret is now knowing I have to wait for the next book (and the next). I recommend this book (and series) to any readers looking for an immersive fantasy with magic, impressive artificery, engaging characters, and plenty of sarcastic wit.

I was an ARC reader for Bedeviled and this is my honest review.

This book kept me on tenter hooks!!! I loved being back in New London and with the characters we know and love! Seeing some new sides to some characters made me very excited. I think Nicole gets character development in a way that feels so human and personal, I can really see these characters as real people.

Having said that, the fantasy element is definitely also in full effect! I want to live in the steam-punk-esque world that I'm coming to explore more and more in these books. I want to have more time with all the POVs we see in this book, which felt really well handled in multi POV form!

I am reeling from the romance and the adventure. I am so impressed by the seamless and mature way the love triangle was handled. I am amazed at the mystery that lies at the heart of these books while being filled with so much plot and heart as well that it isn't just a "whodunnit." The ending had me GASPING and I cannot wait to see where we're heading in book 5 (literally it feels rude that we have to have time between this ending and the next book!!!). Thank you Nicole for such a wonderful world to dive into!!

Nicole McKeon never ceases to not only pull me into the world of New London, but keep my attention hostage to the end. Gwen once again has the best examples of strong bad-assery and whit. She is a FMC to be reckoned with and one that stays on your mind long after the book is closed.

I have seriously fallen in love with these characters and cannot get enough. There is so much I want to say about this book but I just can’t bring myself to spoil anything. But I am going to just say, ARIS…😅😍…

I love that everything from the scenes to the characters are so well described you feel like you have been in that room before. Even down to the temperature of some scenes.

This 4th installment held my attention the entire time. The characters just get more complex the further into the story you get. I have truly enjoyed peeling back these mysterious layers as Gwen and compadres stories unfold. Simply put, I need more.

I cannot recommend this series enough. 100% has to be read in order, these are not stand alone books. But I hope I get to read ten more of these.

*I was given a free arc copy of this book but the review and rating are my own genuine views/thoughts.*

Received this as an ARC, and this is my review.

This book is a total diamond in the rough for people who grew up and fell in love with gaslamp fantasy and magic in their books.

Fans of Harry Potter, Fantastic Beasts, Tomb Raider, and Sherlock Holmes will LOVE this series! I was instantly sucked into the world of Lady Gwen St. James and I was immersed in the plot building that took center in New London. I loved ALL the amazing characters in the story and the author spared no time to throw you into her steamy love triangle! But don't be misled. This is not a YA fantasy book it is an adult fantasy book! If you had a chance to read the previous books in the series (which I highly suggest you do), you can't help but notice the series getting darker. In this book, Lady Gwen and her friends are plagued by the mystery as to why there have been monsters murdering the last existing fae in New London. But the most pressing question would be who could save them?! The gaslamp fantasy, magic, and mystery in this book is SOOO GOOD, and I honestly can't wait for the next books in this series!

I adore this series. If you've read this far, like me, you're in it until the end with all of these wonderful characters. I love the world of New London and I look forward to seeing how this all comes together.

I did have a little bit of trouble following what was going on with the longer action sequences, but that's always true for me, and doubly so when my mental health has been the pits like it is lately. Speaking as someone who usually wanders away from the TV during lengthy action scenes in film, that probably has more to do with me than the novel itself.

I'm ride or die with these books. And of course, this one ends on a cliffhanger, so I hope the next one comes out soon!

I received this book as an ARC from the author and am unforgivably late in writing this review, but I made it here at last. (Not that the author has ever pressured me! This is entirely self-imposed. I just love Gwen and want to share that with other readers.)

This is an ARC review.

Going into this book, I expected it to be a five-star read. Needless to say, my expectations were met, even surpassed.

The character growth throughout the series has been wonderful to see, and I feel that the characters 'aged' realistically. It was enjoyable to see obvious changes in the characters and to not have static characters just meandering about the place.

The relationship dynamics were very well written, and once again, very realistic. I feel that Nicole Mckeon has mastered the writing craft- I adore her writing style, and how well she writes scenes and characters.

The book ends on a cliffhanger, and I audibly gasped. There is no pain like being left on a cliffhanger for a book that hasn't even been published yet. 3
All in all, the plot is a 5 out of 5, and I would strongly recommend this book to anyone. It's perfect for a cozy fall read, with some mystery, magic, and romance. Wonderful read.
