Stone Bay #2

Fractured Night

Rate this book
A small town, forced proximity, LGBT romantic suspense story from USA Today Bestselling author, Persephone Autumn.

Shallow. Heartless. Egocentric. The top three words people use to describe Phoebe Graves.
Somehow, I’ve always seen past her icy facade. Seen beyond her callous exterior.
And those minor glimpses… they make me want her more.

But Phoebe and I exist in different worlds in our small town. Though we’re both Seven—the Stone Bay founding families—she flaunts her privileged status while I live a more humble life.

The last thing I envision is my life colliding with hers.

When Phoebe walks into my family’s business, searching for answers on the town’s latest tragedy, my mother suggests we join forces to find the culprit. To make Stone Bay safe again.
Much to my surprise, Phoebe says yes.

In the weeks that follow—as the evidence grows and the list of names shrinks—the unexpected happens. Phoebe lets me in. Reciprocates my affections. Then asks for secrecy.

As time ticks on, as Phoebe gets consumed by the case, doubt seeps in and I question our relationship.

One night, one hasty decision, fractures our lives forever.

release day: February 13th.

This is not only the first book I've read by this author, but also the first sapphic book I've read, and I regret not having reading one sooner.

The story of Dalilah and Phoebe had me hooked from the beginning. Dalilah's innocent crush on Phoebe since they were assigned as tablemates in school was something to read about, as Phoebe's "I'm better than everyone else" attitude was very attention-grabbing. The story takes place when they are older, with Phoebe working at the town newspaper (which her family owns) and Dalilah at her family's holistic store. Now, in this story we find a mystery, and that's what I loved and won me over because I LOVE a good mystery. And as these two worked together, they started to feel a certain attraction, which scared Phoebe because she didn't know what to do with those feelings (let's just say she hates her family, especially her mother). But with Dalilah's help, she realizes that there is something else for her in the world. Only one thing I didn't like is that they left some things unresolved. I don't know if there will be another book about this couple, I'll wait for it to come out to read the epilogue.

I like the author's writing style, it's fluid and understandable. I hope to read another book by her soon.

📌 I received an e-arc, and this is my honest opinion/review of it.

---

Fractured Night by Persephone Autumn is book two in her captivating Stone Bay series. This time we have the FF romance between Delilah Fox and Phoebe Graves. It is an opposites attract, slow burn love story, which develops when the couple work together to help solve the mystery of a serial killer in their small town. A complex and interesting story about accepting who you are when everyone else wants you to be someone else.

“A reminder that you have wings. A reminder that you can spread those wings whenever you’re ready.”

Delilah is like a ray of sunshine, a good person who sees the best in everyone. Her family is one of the seven founding families but they choose love and joy over status and privilege. They all live with a freedom to be themselves, so she feels no shame or guilt over being gay. If you have read the previous books then you will have met Delilah and know about her unrequited love for Phoebe. A school girl crush that has never gone away even though everyone hates Phoebe due to her hostile and closed off personality.

This story continues a month on from Shattered Sun when evidence reveals that Stone Bay has its first serial killer. Phoebe is a reporter for the Stone Bay gazette which is owned by her father. She is desperate to cover the murders and use her investigative skills but the Seven are trying to keep them a secret from the town. When a clue leads her to the Sage Whisperer Metaphysical shop, she ends up partnering up with Delilah to find the answers about the murders. There is undeniable chemistry and a magnetism between them but Phobe is shocked and scared by it.

The difference between the way these two have been raised is huge and affects their outlook on life. Phoebe’s parents have inflicted so much damaged on her it is going to take time for her to find a better version of herself. She has never had love in her life, has no idea what she wants so denies her sexuality. Phoebe knew what she wanted in her career and stands up to everyone to get it so hopefully she can find that courage in her personal life. Will she accept this side of herself and not worry what people think of them.

It was lovely seeing her best friends Skylar and Kirsten, and how they were doing with their boyfriends Travis and Lawrence. I have my fingers crossed for her brother Jet and his love for his best friend Shanti, hopefully it won’t be unrequited like Oliver’s love for Levi. I’m looking forward to seeing what couple will be next.

My heart went out to Delilah as she struggles with her feelings for Phoebe. I thought she was so patient and loved how she allows her time to figure it all out. The author beautifully explores all the emotions that this couple go through as they navigate their relationship while also facing up to the dangers involved with their investigations. Can Phoebe appreciate what she has before it’s too late. Will the killer be caught before there are more murders ? This was my first FF story and I thought their problems and reactions were very realistic. I loved the passion between the couple and was glad they got a HEA.

4.5 stars, rounded up

Fractured Night follows Phoebe Graves and Delilah Fox, two daughters of small town Stone Bay founding families. Phoebe’s family is all about flaunting their wealth and status, while Delilah’s prefers to distance themselves from the town spotlight. The girl’s live very different lives, but it has stopped Delilah from crushing on Phoebe her entire life. When murders begin happening in their small town, Phoebe takes advantage of the situation to kick off her journalism career, while Delilah gets tangled up in her presence and tags along to save their town.

While reading this book, I can absolutely see why Delilah had such a hard time shaking off her crush on Phoebe because I immediately fell for her. The pressure her family has put on her throughout her entire life while simultaneously neglecting her ripped my poor heart to pieces. But watching her open her heart up to Delilah, albeit slowly, was such a gift. For the first time in her life, she realizes what it’s like to be accepted for whoever she is, but she has to break down all of her preconceived notions about what that may mean.

Add in a murderer wreaking havoc in their beloved small town and we have one hell of a novel. I genuinely enjoyed this book, without realizing it was the second book in the series. To be honest, had I known that going in and read the first book, I think some (small) things may have made more sense, but that’s my own fault so I’m not taking off a star. I did find it took a bit for the suspense to kick in, but I loved Phoebe and Delilah. I found their story to be so enjoyable, but heartbreaking at the same time. I really, really felt for Phoebe, and I’m so glad by the end of the book she begins to realize love doesn’t have to hurt.

Thank you so much to @theauthor.agency for an ARC for Fractured Night in exchange for this honest review.

This book was so good!! It took me some time to like and understand Phoebe. She is the Grumpy/Black Cat of the relationship, and a large reason for that is the way she was raised. Her family is a founding family of the town, and with that came fame, fortune and expectations. But her family, specifically her mother, is AWFUL! Delilah is the Sunshine, book lover that has opened Phoebe’s eyes to everything around her. Although Delilah is also part of a founding family, hers is the black sheep of the “Seven,” and has gone away from the fame and expectations placed on the founding family members. She has grown up in a loving and caring family, with grace and little expectations. She has had a crush on Phoebe since High School, even though she has been awful to everyone. This relationship centers around the suspense and mystery of a serial killer in this small town, when Phoebe and Delilah are forced together to try and help law enforcement find the suspect. I will definitely be picking up more of this author’s work!

Thank you Persephone Autumn & The Author Legacy for the ARC!

Secret harbored crushes, family obligations, mysterious disappearances with murder, and a slow burn sapphic romance? That’s what Fractured Night encompasses.

From beginning to end, this book had me gripping the edge of my seat. The slow burn of Phoebe and Delilah is one thing, and when you added in the suspense of trying to solve murders? The writing that author Persephone Autumn does keeps you wanting more. While it does have a bit of a slow start, once you start wanting more for Phoebe (she’s a bit of an angry woman, with reason), it really picks up. There’s truly a balance among our MC’s. Phoebe’s goal is a bit more for this to be a big break in her journalism career, which her father doesn’t want. Delilah, the crush harboring girl next door, ends up tagging along with her - and it changes them both.

✨ARC review✨

This was my first by this author and my first FF book.

I was a little hesitant going in but after the first few chapters, the mystery had me hooked.

I really like the banter between Delilah and Phoebe. I enjoyed the murder mystery throughout the book, it made you want to finish and find out. I was it was someone the whole and turned out it was totally another person

This story is Pheobe and Delilah. It is a nice story and a good mystery in it. This is book 2 in the series and with not reading book one I would say that it is a decent book.

I love that this has representation of a woman trying to figure out herself and one that knows that the other is who she wants.

Delilah has had a crush on Phoebe since high school and Phoebe’s standoffish behavior doesn’t change Delilah’s feelings for her. Phoebe is a newspaper reporter for her family’s newspaper, and she wants to do a story about the recent body of a woman found. Her father doesn’t want her to, but Phoebe’s driven and goes after it. A couple more bodies show up and when Phoebe shows up at her mom’s shop, Delilah’s mom suggests that Phoebe and Delilah join forces and search for the killer together. So, they do 😉

First off, I love Delilah. Second, I loved the relationship she had with her family. Third, I think Phoebe’s a badass, pretentious, but a badass, nonetheless. She knew what she wanted and wasn’t afraid to get what she wanted. Fourth, I enjoyed the plot, and the suspense was amazing!! I love suspenseful books and the way it makes my heart race and not knowing who the suspect is. Sometimes 😉 Fifth, this is my first ff romance and I can honestly say I enjoyed it!!

This book is a romantic suspense. Phoebe has a hard exterior, some might even say she comes off as rude. Delilah is the opposite, caring, more soft spoken and kind hearted. The two ladies make an unlikely pair but they team up to try and solve the town's murder mystery. Delilah has always had an attraction to Phoebe, while Phoebe has never been with a woman and takes a while to catch up. This story has a very slow burn. I enjoyed the story, while it focuses mostly on the suspense part of the storyline, I would've liked to have seen more spicy scenes included.

This is the first book I’ve read from this author and it exceeded my expectations. Loved that this was a FF romance, which is between Delilah and phoebe. This is an enemies to lovers, slow burn where both girls come together in order to solve a murder and Phoebe slowly develops feelings for Delilah while Delilah has had a crush on Phoebe since they were kids .

I’m excited to read more from this author especially the first book in this series.

I enjoyed this. The author does a good job of continuing to build the world of Stone Bay and the mystique of the whole “Seven” thing. Part of a series, this can still be read as a stand-alone.

I enjoyed getting to know Delilah and Phoebe. Seeing the characters’ inner thoughts is always a plus, but seeing the huge difference in their family life was very impactful emotionally. It’s a credit to Delilah’s upbringing that she is so accepting and supportive in nature, and a cruel twist of fate that Phoebe’s is so wretched that she really has no idea of what it is to be truly accepted, and loved.

It took awhile for the action to really get going, but when it did it spiked my adrenaline. Murder mystery elements aside, this was a sweet, slow burn story.

"Fractured Night" isn't just a book—it's a sapphic symphony wrapped in a mystery, with every page a crescendo that pulls you deeper into the enigmatic world of Stone Bay. It's the kind of read that seduces you with its complexity and the raw, undeniable chemistry between Phoebe and her unexpected partner in crime-solving, Delilah. Their journey from antagonists to lovers is crafted with such authenticity, it feels like you're uncovering a secret part of yourself along with them.

This tale is a delicious blend of suspense and slow-burn romance that sets your pulse racing in more ways than one. It's the kind of story that makes you bite your nails in anticipation one moment and swoon the next. The bi awakening and hate-to-love tropes are handled with a finesse that's as refreshing as the first rain after a long drought. And when these two women finally come together? It's fireworks, folks—pure, unadulterated passion that's as hot as it is heartfelt.

But "Fractured Night" isn't just about the love story. It's a gripping narrative that has you piecing together clues, second-guessing every shadow in Stone Bay, and holding your breath as the mystery unfolds. It's a testament to Autumn's skill that the suspense never overshadows the romance; instead, they complement each other, creating a perfectly paced dance of intrigue and intimacy.

Reading "Fractured Night" felt like diving headfirst into an ocean of emotions—thrilling, terrifying, and utterly captivating. It's a reminder of why we love reading in the first place: to feel, to escape, to discover.

Deliah is super sweet and has a heart of gold. Phoebe is jaded and angry at the world. They are complete opposites but somehow they work.

This took me awhile to get into and the action of the book didn’t happen until almost the end. It ended as a HFN and I have so many questions left. It just felt rushed and unfinished at the end.

“For all the souls struggling to stand up for themselves and speak their truth. For everyone that straightens their spine and puts on a brave face so the world doesn’t see your scars.”

this isn't my first suspense romance, but it's the first one where I'm not hooked from the start. I love it when it's set up right from the start and i can’t say that this book is interesting. i just can’t get into the book i tried and pushed myself to read till this point but i think no matter how much i read my rating isn’t going to change.
so i decided to stop.
the story had a lot of potential, but is too slow for my personal taste and i’m not a huge fan of the love storyline. i like the characters but i just can’t see them together as a couple.

This was a first for me from Persephone Autumn. And I enjoyed the change in pace from my typical reads. It kept me on my toes, had me guessing what all the twists and turns would be, and had me trusting no one.

I love the push and pull of an “hate” to love, the light and the dark contrast of the characters, as well as the character growth. It was truly beautiful to see characters grow from their traumas and find family outside of blood relatives. Truly, the characters were my favorite part to the read.

When subplots are created, no matter how big or small, I prefer to have all of them wrapped up perfectly by the end of the book. Unfortunately, there were quite a few left open ended or without much detail. Which left me wanting so much.

It’s definitely worth the read, but prepared to have questions and want more information.

This book had me on the edge of my seat throughout and I was so caught up in the story. A fledgling romance between Delilah and Phoebe in the midst of a serial killer mystery in their town we feel the pull between them while trying to navigate their attractions and also their endeavours to solve the mystery killings. This is a life changing attraction for Phoebe as her parents have her life mapped out but Phoebe breaks away from their restrictions regarding her life and pursues her own road. Persephone Autumn gives us a book about love, understanding and acceptance. I had goose bumps with every word I read and that is a testament to the talent of Ms Autumn. I loved this book and the characters so much. I have read a lot of Ms Autumn’s books and they have all left their mark in my heart.

I received an arc copy from the author and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

3.5⭐️ This was my first book from Persephone Autumn and it was definitely an exciting read. I liked the general writing style and pacing of the book and really enjoyed the overall story.

The chemistry between characters was great and I liked seeing their growth both individually and together.

While I really did enjoy this book, there were a few unresolved issues at the end from side conflicts. I think if a couple were eliminated and that focus was shifted to building the main conflict a little more, this would have been a 5 star read for me.

Phoebe and Delilah are part of the Seven, and they went to school together. Despite how nice Delilah was, the two were not friends. The story starts year later after circumstances bring them together to investigate what is happening in their town that part of the other founding families want to keep secret. As they work together, their relationship develops, but Phoebe has a rough time coming to terms with it. Her family was a lot harsher than Delilah’s, and she comes to understand why they made the decision to live separately from the Seven. I love Delilah’s friends and how they were always there for her.

Fractured Night is a romantic suspense opposites attract story following Phoebe Graves and Delilah Fox. While they are both children of the Stone Bay Seven founding families they were raised very differently. Delilah is like a ray of sunshine a very likable person who likes to see good in everyone and Phoebe is the perfect example of Grumpy with an attitude where she thinks she's better than everyone. Despite Phoebe's cold exterior Delilah has always believed there's good in her and has had a crush on her for a long time.
When a mysterious serial killer lurks around their small town murdering people, as a reporter Phoebe is determined to uncover the truth but the Stone Bay Seven wants to keep things low to not panic the towns people. Asked to work together by Delilah's mother the two girls join forces to find out what's really going on.
I loved Delilah's character and how she was with her family and friends. And felt so bad for how Phoebe was treated by her family, specially her mother. The story kept me hooked through to the end.

Persephone Autumn manages to pack everything I look for in contemporary into its pages: diversity, complex characters, an interesting storyline, and a swoonworthy romance.

Fractured Night is a daring and emotionally charged story that explores this premise and hooks the reader from page one.

I could go on forever. Every word is perfect. The hook is instant, the dull moments never. Completely gorgeous, entertaining, and truly a work of art.

This is such an amazing novel that got me hooked from page one. A really fresh and edgy addition I think it is a definite must-read!

As a Romance reader, this book evoked a sense of intrigue and empathy as we followed the FMCs journey through the twists and turns of their small-town life. The themes of love, privilege, and secrecy kept me emotionally invested until the final page. As their bond strengthens through challenging times and moments of vulnerability, I was drawn into a compelling narrative of their connection , love and understanding.

I wanted to love this so badly, but I could not get into it at all. The premise was great but the characters were not doing anything for me. This is my first sapphic romance book and first book by Persephone Autumn! This was so good, the story had my attention from the start, i had a hard time putting this book down. I found myself up in the middle of the night trying to get "one more chapter" read. The suspense throughout the book was intense and gripping. I was nervous of what would happen next. I loved how different Phoebe and Delilah are and how Delilah was so patient trying to be her friend from the early years of their lives.

It pained me to hear all the verbal abuse Phoebe endured growing up and still goes through with her Mother. How she feels so unloved. Unlovable. I could feel her pain....my heart ached for her.

Overall, this book was a very great read and has a great story with it with some spice sprinkled in.
