“Because he wasn’t a hot-blooded murderer. No, Saint was a cool, calm, and calculated assassin.”
Great beginning of a new series!
Ethan Jones has done it again, with this great premise. It looked like a typical assassin plot at first, but went in a completely different direction pretty quickly, and turned into a surprisingly powerful story about the value of freedom and the meaning of pain and suffering. Ethan Jones also has a gift for writing characters, and the writing really draws you into their lives.

“Every man has a breaking point. The trick is to find out what it is and exploit it.”
Is revenge that sweet? Perhaps in that exact moment of execution, when you feel exalted, angry, furious, you even find a distinctive and evil pleasure. What about the aftermath? That hollow feeling it leaves in your soul, after having executed your revenge. Now what? The pain, the loss, will never go away, it will only recede to the back of your mind, to that far corner of your soul, like the receding waters of an ocean’s tide, to never rise up again. And so we are left to try to live with it.

“The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.”
And triumph of good is the best feeling ever. A tense, emotive, fast paced, character driven, credible and realistic story. Heart pounding and nerve wracking, I read it in one seat, so engrossed I was with the immersive storyline, out of breath with all the travelling around the world after the villains, and chased by them.

I’m counting the days, waiting to read the next in the series of Saint, Assassin’s Vow #2.

Xavier Saint .... He’s no Saint...

A first in a series, and a first for this author from me. Clear and strong story.

Assassin Xavier Saint has only one rule: kill no innocents. But on a supposed clean hit, he discovers his target has two kids and a woman with him. Why didn’t his client tell Saint? What’s worse, the woman is Saint’s former girlfriend…

While Saint processes this strange turn of events shots are fired. He watches the target and his ex fall. Rushing in to assess the damage, Saint’s ex reveals he’s a father. Not only that, he discovers he’s been set up.

In a race across Europe, Saint can barely stay a step ahead of those hunting him. He has uncovered a network of assassins eliminating innocents for profit, and he is being framed as the fall guy. With more to lose than just his life, Saint must bring down the entire network. But how?

He never claimed to be a saint, but he's no demon either. In a world full of sworn enemies, how will Saint strike back, destroy the network, and be able to see the daughter he never knew he had?

Well paced, good action, strong ending Four stars. Must order number two now !!

A bit disappointing

The language used was elementary. Things happened to the assassin that were unrealistic for real life. It was a lot like reading a Clive Cusller novel. Outnumbered so many times he managed to kill off his opposition quickly. I am not interested in reading any follow-up novels in the series.

Saint Is No Saint

Saint does have sound morals, however. He has been tasked with an assassination of a person deemed as a threat to someone who has made a case to Saint's liason. Saint is meticulous in his planning. His moral code dictates that he'll not take a hit involving women or children. As Saint is closing in on his target, two young boys enter the scene, causing Saint to pause. Then a woman enters the same scene. Both facts preempt Saint's mission. But another assassin takes the shots, killing the "bystanders" as well as the target.

In trying to provide aid, Saint finds the woman is a former love interest. This riles him to pursue and overtake the second assassin, but not before the second shooter reports to the liason. He paints Saint as having failed the mission. This puts a target on Saint's back. Of course, this isn't by accident. Saint's liason, Friese, is the one who has marked Saint for elimination.

Saint also learns that his romantic liason has produced a daughter, Sarah, he knew nothing about. He vows to take care of Sarah as a final pledge to her mother. This danger creates the need for Saint to find and eliminate Friese and, eventually, seven other assassin's liasons. But to capture Friese, Saint needs help and joins forces with a Russian SVR officer. He vows his services to the SVR in exchange for help from them to nab Friese. With this part of the mission complete, Saint tries to devise a way to tell Sarah that he is her father and that her mother is dead.

Further comments would necessitate providing certain spoiler(s) that I'm not going to do. Suffice it to say that this thriller will keep you engrossed and wanting for more. Ethan Jones can spin a fantastical yarn that triggers your imagination and wonder.

Is there such a thing as an ethical assassin?
Xavier Saint is as close as you are likely to get. He won’t accept assassination jobs if the targets are women or children and he also ensures the targets are guilty of the reasons why they are targeted. Cleaning up society of villains and getting paid for it, that’s Saint.

Saint is tasked with killing a politician but as he’s about to kill the victim two children and a woman come into view so he withholds his shot. He also recognises the woman as his ex girlfriend. However, the woman and the target are both shot by a gun not fired by Saint. He rushes to assess the damage and the woman manages to tell him that he is the father of her child and she wants him to look after her.
Saint spots the shooter and sets off in pursuit ultimately establishing that Saint was being framed by the man who set him the task - Fieser.

Saint sets off in pursuit of Fieser to exact revenge on him. Fieser a
Is a very powerful man and has surrounded himself with a plethora of security which he enhances once he learns that Saint is after him.

Saint cannot get Fieser on his own and needs to call in a number of favours but he never knows whether or not he can trust the source of that help. The pursuit across Europe is really fast paced with lots of twists and turns and loaded with tension and the dilemma of keeping his daughter safe following the death of her mother whilst carrying out the chase.

The story ends with a fantastic cliffhanger and no option but for me to acquire the next book in the series. I can’t just leave the story now, especially as I very much like Saint as a character.

Freelance assassin becomes target of larger assassin organization - 4 stars

Xavier Saint is a professional assassin. He has standards. High standards. His targets must be guilty, not innocent, not children, and not police. That sounds simple and high minded enough. As ever, it's the details that get you.

This episode starts with two assassins having been assigned to the same target and a woman being shot. Because there is an international connection, there will be changes of scenery and much exchange of bullets. Many people get shot including Xavier. Some targets fare better than others, but the reoccurring shoot-escape sequence is repeated with high energy which kept my interest up especially when I tried to identify with Xavier.

While the shootings begin in the Adriatic and have a couple of incidents in the USA, you never lose sight of the emotional tug of a little girl who is left without a mother. Assassins need a support staff of contacts and exchanges of favors. One on-going exchange is particularly good with Xavier leaning heavily on a skilled hacker who is Russia. Some favors are called in from several acquaintances from Xavier's past.

Some of the plot twists are entirely unexpected (good job here) while Xavier's string of luck does seem to be ebbing. Be prepared for a fast-moving, entertaining story about the people who do extrajudicial "justice".

After writing literally dozens of great action thrillers across many series Ethan Jones knows exactly how to hit the ground running with a new series. Assassin’s Call is a perfect example of the author's ability to cram his novel full of exciting action while giving his readers an engrossing story-line as well as interesting characters. You might not expect too much character development during a story such as this, it runs at breakneck speed, but Ethan Jones manages to include that too. The story follows Xavier Saint (Great name!) the eponymous assassin in question as he comes to terms with life changing situations. Double crossed and hunted he uses his talents to go after those responsible to protect his family. Now, to be fair we may have heard similar set ups before but Ethan Jones takes this idea and gives it his own spin and boy does he do it well! This is everything you could ask for from an action thriller from an author that proves again and again he’s got to be one of the best in the business.

You should read "Assassin's Call", the first of a great new series by Ethan Jones.

Assassin Xavier Saint will admit he is no saint. For one thing, this assassin has something that few, if any other assassins have: two rules. One, you don't kill innocents; and two, you don't kill women or children.

This book opens with Saint on a mission that goes sideways. During the mission, he learns two things: that he is a father, and he was set up on this mission.

From then on, Saint's new goal is to protect his new daughter and find the man who set him up. While doing so, Saint is looking to contact friends to assist him while doing his best to not getting killed by onsite assassins in the countries he's traveling, including from start to finish: Montenegro, Serbia, Slovenia, Austria, Germany, California, Washington, D.C. Virginia, and finally, back to Austria.

Fasten your seatbelt because you won't want to stop reading once you start this great book!

In this first book Mr. Jones sets the bar high as always for his new series! The book’s blurb sets up the premise very well. Assassin Xavier Saint’s latest target has a woman and two children in the way, so he doesn’t take the shot, but someone else does! He’s been set up, with a whole network of assassins after him. The game is on! Thus starts a pure Ethan Jones roller coaster ride, twisting and turning throughout Europe and the United States; Who is chasing who? Who can he trust? This story is well-written, with vivid descriptions and strong characters which drew me in and kept me glued to the pages, wondering what else could possibly go wrong next. I highly recommend all of Mr. Jones’ books – he continues to prove that a writer can produce great action-packed books using clean language, no sex scenes, and without overly graphic descriptions of blood and guts. I have thoroughly enjoyed at least two dozen of his books, and am eager to follow this new series, wherever it leads.

Jones has again shown his story telling expertise in this new series. While a different hero has been created, Jones is developing an entirely different character. While flawed, Xavier Saint has morals along with enemies and difficult decisions he is forced to make which sometimes goes against is grain. Another action packed story from page one.
When his current mission is interfered with and as a result fails he soon learns who has betrayed him. He is doubly forced to bring his search for the traitors to a successful end when he learns that a former lover was a victim in this failure, He further learns that he has fathered a child with this former lover. He leaves no stone unturned to make sure those responsible for her death to pay.
As always the last line in the story is the story.
A great read with new characters bound to please those who are fans of Jones.

Assassinating somebody is not like shooting down pins of a wall, though a lot of people might gather such an idea when reading. But kill they will.
Xavier Saint was an assassin ,though with a few standards. He will not kill children or women nor anybody that was not guilty of gross misconduct.
What he never guessed would happen to him was that he would watch a woman die before his disbelieving eyes. Least of all that it would be a woman that he knew and at one stage had a loving relationship with. A woman who had a hidden secret.
That is when he swore vengeance. And all hell broke loose.
Author Ethan Jones really created a pulsing action thiller that will have you on the edge of your seat. You may also find yourself in a no stop reading session with a possible wild gleam in the eye as you rush through pages of Assassin's Call.
Enjoy.

He may be an assassin, but Xavier Saint lives by a strict code to make sure that only the guilty pay for their crimes. When he’s deceived, putting innocent lives in the crosshairs, Saint will stop at nothing to make sure it can never happen again. Saint is a worthy addition to the author’s world of covert agents and clandestine operations. I was immediately pulled into this book, and I couldn’t read it fast enough to find out what would happen around every page turn. And after that ending, I will definitely be coming back for more; I have questions that I’m in desperate need of answers to.
I received a complimentary advance copy of this book from the author.

First in new series - Xavier Saint is the titular assassin. Originally a member of Canadian Intelligence he now plies his trade in a related but even more shady profession. He insists on taking on only the guilty - but when an assisgnment goes wrong as another kills the target and also two others, including a child, he needs to follow up and establish what went wrong.

Followers of this author will know what to expect - fast-moving, action sequences and rapid changes of location. The body count may b higher than usual- but there is a fair amount of vehicular mayhem as well. There is an epilogue that teases the next book in the series...

Ethan Jones introduces us to an assassin for hire, Xavier Saint. He’s an odd assassin as he has limitations to what he will do in eliminating someone. In this book, we travel from Eastern Europe to Western Europe and on to California and Virginia. The hunter becomes the hunted and the man who hired him becomes the hunted too. How will Saint get out of deadly situations? Will the Russians help him get the bad guy? Is Saint really a good guy? From beginning to end the novel is one adventure after another.

Xavier Saint is an assassin with few rules; one being kill no innocent. While on a mission where he has to have a partner, that is what happens; innocents are killed and the handler blames Saint even tho it was his partner who is to blame. And it seems so is the handler. While trying to stay under the radar doesn't work long for Saint, he is back in the game. Will he and his new partner stay alive long enough to find answers to the questions they have about the innocents who it seems are now being killed, as well as the deserved...and why is Saint now on a kill list?

I would think someone who is in the assassination business, would be professional and meticulous to the Nth degree, cool, calm and collected, always being one step or more ahead of the pack, yet here we have the main character having massive shoot outs like the A team on speed!! Showed very naive on his constant affirmation on killing the cause of his grief, like a sullen schoolkid plotting his revenge in the back yard after some slight. Like a bond film where he's flitting across the globe seemingly in the blink of an eye, with contacts everywhere and he can't even speak the lingo. I'm afraid I was not impressed, I will not be chasing after any of the others in the series.

I received an ARC and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
This story begins Saint at a location where he has been assigned the task of killing two individuals. He has arrived at the location and is waiting for his victims to appear. When one of them does, he avoids making the shot because there two other parties near, one a child and another is a woman. It is Saint’s manner that he will not kill either. It seems someone else has also been contracted for the kill. Saint’s victim is killed and the woman is wounded. Saint eventually chases the shooter and when he catches up learns of certain information about why this shooter was involved. Saint discovers that the woman who was a former girlfriend was a target and not an innocent bystander.

Read along as Saint learns that he is a father and the steps that he has to take to keep his daughter safe. Discover who the individual was that put out the contract that Saint was given as well as the other shooter. The action is immense and will keep you glued to the story. The ending is one that you won’t expect.

This is a definite winner for Ethan in this series and should be read.

An assassin with a conscience

Saint is a trained assassin and discovers he is also a father. He makes an effort to do right by his choice of being a trained killer and tries to retire from his profession. The problem(s) of other assassins trying to kill Saint and those he loves prevents Saint from retiring. There are evil threats from every corner of the globe. Saint will need to be clever to protect innocent people from being killed. This is a quick read with lots of action.

Good 1st book in new throllers

Xavier Saint the assassin is Jones new good /bad Hero. The first book had plenty of twists and turns and one ends up routing for Saint. As an assassin he has strict rules which he doesn't cross and this leads in a strange way to finding out he has a daughter Sarah. This little girl is going to figure highly in all Saint's future adventures as her tried to keep her safe. I enjoyed this book and have pre-ordered the next book

I very much enjoyed this book.

The author did a good job putting this book together. His story line and character development was good. Saint is a good character to build a book series around. Saints ideas about life and his idea of how an assassin should work is in conflict with how his handler wants him to act. They just shouldn’t have come after his friends and family. There is a lot of action. Each page is jumping. Read and enjoy.

Another great read by Ethan Jones

I am a big fan of Ethan Jones, and I have read all of his books except for The Saint Assassin Vigilante Series. Saint is anything but a Saint. However, like most of us, he will do whatever it takes to protect his family. This is a great read, and I can assure you that you will have a difficult time putting it down!

Xavier Saint is an assassin who's ethical when it comes to his work: no children, women, or innocents. He’s a man of a different breed, deadly driven but good to the core and will do anything to protect his family. Tons of action will keep you on the edge of your seat, and keeps you wanting to read into the night. (Just one more chapter--Right?)
Waiting for the next book.

Good book to read the story had hadd an edge to it making it hard to put down, kept you thinking how it would end and then change. What you think is a cold blooded killer finds he does have lines he will not cross. It's a book you can't put down you need too fine out how it ends, and when it does end you discover it doesn't.

This first book in a new series by Ethan is excellent. It is set in Europe and has a few unexpected twists in the plot. The story is a bit different from the usual ones by Ethan but I liked it just the same. It is an easy read.

In true Ethan Jones style, this is a fast moving, action-filled romp with plenty of high risk twists and more shoot-outs than a John Wayne movie. However, underpinning it all is an intriguing plot involving a love story and an assassin with morals and a conscience. A great read.

Action packed story

Enjoyed the story. Saint, an assassin with morals and stands up for them. Finding out that he was a father, moved him to find his daughter. He made a dangerous deal, but it had to be done and he succeeded.
Nice twist at the end for Saint.

first read and a good one.

I like to read the first of a series to see if it’s worth it and this is. Good storyline, good characters both good and bad with a little adventure thrown in. Of course there are always mix ups, contradictions and danger.

What a great start to a series. Kept me guessing with the twists and turns. Love the concept of an assassin with morals. Well recommended. For those new to the series I would suggest reading the prequel before this one "Becoming Saint".
