Duty calls. Honor answers. Love…waits. When obligation tests heart and soul, will a fragile bond break?
Special Forces Marine Rick Thorne walks the line between life and death with no hesitation—and nothing to lose. Fighting terrorists is just a job, right? Until Nylah rolls over him like an M1 Abrams tank and turns his life downside up. Suddenly divided between love and duty and the secrets he’s sworn to protect, he has everything he never knew he wanted—and everything to lose. Deployed on another dangerous mission and barely surviving a bloodbath raises questions. Just how much is he willing to sacrifice for god and country?
Nylah James is no stranger to being left behind. Some people moved on after tragedy and trauma turned their lives into a story worthy of the five o’clock news, but apparently, she isn’t one of them. When Rick leaves for another clandestine operation, Nylah suffers in silence and struggles with abandonment issues rooted in a past that threatens to derail her future.
When the operation fails, redeployment is inevitable. Terrifying risks and a damaged past pushes the couple toward the brink of a devastating choice...
With their happily ever after at stake, will one mission too many defy the odds and prove that love conquers all?
With a sweet tooth for pastries, a soft heart for animals and an imagination that rivals Dorothy's OZ and Alice’s Wonderland (albeit on the steamier side of fantasy) Lotchie Burton writes spicy Contemporary Romance and Romantic Suspense. An avid reader and hopelessly hooked on happily-ever-after’s, Lotchie writes suspenseful tales where sparks fly, and fires ignite. Strong plots with diverse characters, her stories are filled with feisty heroines and the hard edged, protective, no-nonsense men determined to love them. A New York Times and USA Today Bestselling Author wannabe, her name isn’t synonymous with any bestseller’s lists—yet. But she’s working on it.
I just really liked this read. I don't know from personal experience, but it seemed like the author did her research into the lives of military couples. It read authentically to me. Rick was a military man through and through; and it was something Nylah was more than familiar with her own father, but having to deal with as a partner, rather than a child, were different things altogether. The emotions of the wives, girlfriends, etc, left to deal with it was something to realize. Partners, having to take care not to send their men/women out there with all of that emotion into the battlefield.
Having never thought he would even have a romantic relationship because of his career, Rick, had his own emotional spots to handle with it all as well. That whole bit with Betts and Gabe was a snapshot, but it was so raw and real. And Nylah's response to it was, too.
The author kept a good pace with the book, points made without repetition; and not getting too much into the weeds of the military plots to keep the attention of the reader. As for this book, the author did say upfront this was a continuing series, so there will be more to come.
This was solid and enjoyable to me. Can't wait for more….

They Say... Who Are They? The dedication to Ms. Burton's prequel did a gut punch. "...dedicated to everyone who's ever done the wrong thing for the right reason. At least that's what you told yourself, to live with the decision you made." I think we all have been there. The story proceeds to tell the intense emotions of the significant others and the military men involved in the relationships. This book is the prequel to Ms. Burton's series "The Men of Thorne Enterprises." It grabs you by your heart, your emotions, and your gut. Thankfully the series is published so you, the reader, can find out if there is a happily ever after for those involved. A definite must-read. Good job Ms. Burton.
“They Say Love Conquers All” will rip your heart out. With an inside view of military life, being a spouse, never knowing when they’ll be home or if you’ll ever even get to see them alive again. This read provides an eye-opening perspective. Uncle Sam doesn’t care that he’s taking you from your family on Thanksgiving, he doesn’t care if you’ve made other plans you won’t be able to keep, you are there to serve your country, and yet so many feel your absence in your wake.
Captain Richard “Rick” Thorne has always been okay with this. Until something happens to one of Rick’s teammates that forces everyone to re-examine their feelings, priorities, and suppressed struggles. When Rick and his team ship off, Nylah and the rest of the women they leave behind are left with so many uncertainties. Where are they going, will they be able to call, will they be injured, or worse? Not everyone can handle the pressures of military life on relationships. Nylah is no stranger to being left behind, hiding behind a mask of her own, but can her relationship with Rick survive this?
My own father was in the military. As a kid I always heard my mother’s heart break as he shipped off for nine or more months at a time. The loneliness, the refusal to join in on anything just so you weren’t too busy to miss his call, it’s hard for any relationship to bear. As a child you don’t realize the sacrifices being made. Even as a wife I don’t think it ever hit me what my own mother went through…until I read this book.
“They Say Love Conquers All” lifts the veil and shows readers military relationships in a whole new light. Author Lotchie Burton does a great job providing both the male and female perspective. Showing the struggles from both ends of the spectrum, this book offers an emotional and realistic view of love in the military. Centering on Rick and Nylah, Burton presents an inside look at external relationship factors as they test their bond. From the action on a mission to the debrief, the anxieties on the home front and struggles to cope, this read offers an extraordinarily powerful perspective while drawing readers in on the traumas of the past and hopes for the future.
As an Army brat and now a veteran, I was often told that Uncle Sam didn’t issue you a family (e.g. wife, kids, or any significant other). Ms. Burton blows that theory out the water in "They Say Love Conquers All". Build a family of Brothers in Arms or Soul Sisters. Everyone needs someone sometime.
Let’s hear it for the boys! You gotta love a series about sexy, take charge men like The Men of Thorne Enterprises. King of them all is Special Forces Marine Captain Rick Thorne. God, Family, Country. This creed runs on a loop in his head, while making sure he gets his brothers home in one piece after every mission and keeping our country safe. As with any mission, you expect the unexpected and adapt. Rick was not expecting the brown bombshell, Nylah James. He fell hard for those curves, soft curls, and quick wit.
Life happens and soon military obligations begin to take a toll on their relationship. With strained family ties, Nylah finds comradery with her sisterhood of fellow worriers. While barely holding on waiting for news, the guys return. They say women are strong, but some will stand, others will fall. Who’s going to be left standing with their man when the smoke clears? Will Love Conquer All? Will Rick check off the items on his after action plan?
Separate from the military Start private security/investigation business with government contracts Talk Gabe and Dante into a partnership Hire men with military experience Finally, Marry Nylah
To be continued….

Setting: Somewhere in USA near a US Military Base.
Trope: The adversities and hardships to romantic relationships of Military Special Ops Teams.
Main characters: 1. Nylah James. main female character, is the live in girl friend of the ranking member of a SPECOPS team. She fears family loss due to death of her sister. 2. Special Forces Marine Rick Thorne, main male character, loves his job; but since being in a committed long term relationship with Nylah, he has decided to separate from the military and start a business, 'The Men of Thorne Enterprise, a detective agency. 3. Gabriel "Gabe" Cummings and Dante Wilkes are his closest friends and the people Rick want as business partners. 4. Driver and his girl friend Betts and Kaden are also member of the Ops team.
I think this prequel is okay but unnecessary. There isn't much world building or character development made here...Nylah and Betts and the other women live in fear for the safety of their men. Betts leaves Driver after he's shot and Nylah leaves Rick shortly after because of her issues with the death of a sister and the distance that placed between herself and her parents. Although not referenced in this prequel, I would wager that Nylah is pregnant plans to never tell Rick until she must because something bad is coming her way.
They Say Love Conquers All, by Lotchie Burton is the intense prequel to Love Hard, Love Deep, and the title says everything if you know the first story in the Men of Thorne Enterprises series. Rick Thorne and Nylah James are in love, but there are things in their path that they must deal with that threaten what seems to be a good relationship. Prequels like this are hard to write, and I wondered how the author would handle this, as I’ve read their other novels. This was a well-done story, and the author dealt with all the facets of their relationship with both finesse and candor. Terrific novel!
I found Lotchie Burton's book of romance and military mixed well, handling the interpseronal interactions with depth and real-life, empathetic emotion. The novel was well structured, kept my interest so that I sincerely wanted to see how it would end. All in all, it was a worth-while read, and one I'd recommend, especially if you enjoy steamy romance novels that leave you a bit breathless.

Enjoyed this storyline and anxious to know what happens next since this ends in a heart twisted cliffhanger 🥺. Sometimes love hurts, it can be dark, edgy, and heart wrenching 😳. Especially when confronted with decisions that might seem wrong for the heart, but it's the right thing to do 😔. This is a good read that will stir your emotions for sure. I received this as a ARC, and I'm voluntarily leaving my review.
I absolutely love Ms. Burton's skills as an author, but I really didn't think "The Men of Thorne Enterprises" series would appeal to me. I was WRONG! This prequel left me wanting to dive into the intriguing lives of these characters, and I can't wait to read more.
Rick and Nylah have been together for awhile, but will her past come back in to destroy their newly started relationship. I love stories like this.I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Does love conquer all? For Rick and Nylah they have to fight for their love. With the risks mounting, will their love survive their choices? A good read.
They Say Love Conquers All by Lotchie Burton is the prequel to her new series, The Men of Thorne Enterprises. When the story opens, Special Forces Marine Rick Thorne and Nylah James are in a committed and loving relationship. Rick is aware that his job is stressful to their love life and each covert mission brings tension and fear. He is also aware that while Nylah is a loyal and loving partner, she is also reticent about her past and is privately grappling with secret issues. If she can’t trust him with her past, how will she handle the stressors of the present? This story is an excellent starting point; I really look forward to the coming episodes and especially anticipate Nylah and Rick working out the knots in their passionate and heart stirring relationship.
