His writing isn't a lecture; it's a conversation, peppered with humor, humility, and a dash of rebellion against societal norms; Candamo doesn't shy away from challenging the status quo. You'll find yourself nodding in agreement, laughing at his anecdotes, and feeling a surge of motivation with each turn of the page.

Motivational!!

I really liked "Five Doors of Success" because it's a practical and inspiring guide for achieving life goals. Candamo challenges the idea that only lucky or privileged people can be successful. He says it's about making smart choices and taking action. The book breaks down success into five important keys: knowing your strengths and weaknesses, finding what you're great at, managing expectations, being efficient, and building strong relationships.

What makes this book stand out is how relatable it is. It encourages you to think about yourself, use your strengths, and grow personally. Candamo motivates you to improve your skills, see success as personal growth, and actually do things to reach your goals. The book gives a fresh take on success, mixing inspiration with practical advice in an easy-to-understand way. If you're looking for a self-help book that matches your idea of success, "Five Doors of Success" is a must-read. It'll inspire you to be your best and make positive changes in your life.

Thanks to the author for providing the book in exchange for an honest review.

I read a lot of non-fiction books, but most of them are focused on individual things I want to accomplish or know more about: writing craft, minimalism, various work matters, etc, but never really on success as a whole. That's why when the author, Joshua Candamo, approached me to request a review, I thought this would make quite an interesting read.

Five Doors of Success is comprised of 3 general sections: The introduction, the 5 doors themselves (each containing both an anecdote that related to the achievement of this door, as well as an explanation of each door), and the final words which also contain a summary of the five doors and some axioms to live by and help you when you're struggling.

The book has an overall very chatty feeling to it, more like someone is talking to you than your typical non-fiction book. Because of this, I found the introduction a little bit repetitive in parts, I understood what the author was going for, but it was a bit long-winded for me. Still, although the style of writing wasn't exactly what I was used to, the whole book was actually quite interesting.

Through the five doors, Joshua Candamo tells you the story from when he first arrived in the United States without a degree and struggling to find a job, to being an executive with a Ph.D. degree and a fulfilling personal life.

Although each door is pretty simple at first glance, each chapter goes into the many sub-topics or skills you might need in order to achieve them and explains those too, not leaving you hanging and having to figure out what each extra thing is. I appreciated that, although at times it seemed to branch a little too far from the main topic of the door itself. Still, it was good not to have to go to another resource to figure them out and by the end you always rounded back to the main topic of the door, making it easy enough to see how it all fit.

The author touches on many topics that go along success, such as self-awareness, mindfulness, communication, balancing work and life and everything else in between, habits and rewards, goals and expectations, etc.

As for the stories, normally I don't connect much with anecdotes in non-fiction books because they tend to be so far removed from my own experiences, it makes me miss the point entirely. If you enjoy reading stories and anecdotes, you'll really enjoy them though. The author has lead a very interesting life, and even for me, I could identify with what he was trying to get across even when I didn't feel things matched up with my life. I still greatly appreciated that he included both those and the story-free version of how to achieve each "door". A lot of books only do one or the other, leaving those who connect more with one of those styles of writing hanging.

The summary of each door and axioms for when you're struggling were the perfect wrap ups for the book and a very helpful reminder of all you read thus far provided in a far more concise manner you could easily refer back to if needed.

There were several things I took away from this book, but the two biggest ones are probably to reframe what I think success to be for myself and my life specifically, and to be more self-aware in regards of my own skills and weaknesses.

I'm going to go out on a limb here. The FIVE DOORS OF SUCCESS is my favorite self-help guide of the year, and perhaps my favorite self-help book in a couple of years. I love the set-up whereby Candamo lays bare that he's not a celebrity nor does he have friends in high places nor is his life necessarily everybody's definition of success. However, he is, by a lot of people's definition of the word, successful. He describes how he went from a minimal wage worker to a Ph. D. holding executive and emphasizes that success is not a one-size-fits-all commodity that humans should approach the same way. In fact, by definition, success is so much more about the methods and approaches we take in our lives to be our best selves than what we have allowed the concept to evolve into...one very narrow result (usually having to do with money and power). I love when he talks about the "when" of success and shuns the idea that it is an elusive "if" that only a certain amount of people attain.

We are all capable of taking the steps that WE DEEM will make us successful in whatever arena in our lives we are most compelled by. Candamo doesn't want this book to lead us toward one idea or one definition. He wants us to become the best version of ourselves. Each chapter has plenty of compelling stories and instructions in how we might achieve this goal. Nothing feels unapproachable or preachy, which I hate when it comes to a self-help tool. Instead, I felt like I had a teammate or a captain within these pages cheering me on. Because Candamo has a great backstory where he's had to put muscle into his words, I believed his guidance. He's lived this book. And what he says makes sense beyond just his experience.

But what ultimately makes this book my favorite self-help book in ages? Just how personable and likeable Candamo is. He is an awesome storyteller, an authentic soul, and a radiant light who, you can tell, wants others to breathe life into their potential because it makes our society better. I learned so much about myself and feel re-energized in my personal pursuit of what success looks like to me and how to go about grounding myself in my journey. And, I have just the tips to help get me there!!!!

In FIVE DOORS OF SUCCESS, Candamo shares his personal life and career journey while also drawing on stories from other people he has met to create a systematic approach to achieving success. From the beginning of the work, Candamo is sure to emphasize that comparison to others should not be the central metric of one’s success. He writes, “Since personal goals are the main drivers of the pursuit of success, you are the only one who can determine whether you’re successful.” Rather than using the anecdotes about success featured in the story to set a prescriptive path to follow for a certain brand of success, Candamo rightly emphasizes that success looks different for everyone. Success is relative. It is subjective. As someone who struggles with imposter syndrome in many spaces I enter, I find his insistence on avoiding comparing your own success and life journey to another an excellent way to start the book. It serves as an important reminder that success takes many forms depending on personal motivations and life goals.

It is interesting how Candamo ties history into his discussion of success too. Toward the beginning of the book, Candamo elucidates the etymology of the word “success,” stating “Originally, success described the manner in which a thing happened or the manner in which a series of events unfolded.” Thus, success was a matter of certainty rather than of impossibility. Identifying this change in meaning is essential to Candamo’s argument that success can be achieved even by the average person and reframes society’s current understanding of success as something not quite attainable. Instead, it is indeed possible for all, especially with Candamo’s advice divided into five “doors” of success: the mystery of you; jack of all trades, master of none; outside is inside; balanced management; and there are no shortcuts. Each section begins with a segment titled “journey,” which helps contextualize the advice for attaining success according to Candamo’s five doors. Overall, the book is a highly organized, well-written resource for identifying what success looks like for you and pursuing it wholeheartedly.

I really liked this book. It's definitely a must-read for anyone who wants to achieve their goals in life. It is a practical and inspiring guide that provides a clear roadmap to success. Candamo begins by debunking the myth that success is predetermined by our circumstances. He argues that success is not about luck or privilege, but rather about making the right choices and taking action. He then identifies five doors of success: knowing your strengths/weaknesses, understanding what you can do and building toward something you can be great at, balancing personal expectations, managing efficiently, and building strong relationships through strong commitments. I'm currently on a path of growing my own business with the hope that I can eventually achieve my goals and become a great success. I was taken with this book, as I've read a lot of inspirational works lately that highlight what some of the biggest names in the world have done, and stories about their journeys, but naturally I can't feel myself relating to ultra-billionaires all that much. This book highlights more about people that are successful that aren't necessarily in the public eye, which was a lot easier to digest. Everyone has a different story and path to success, and I appreciated that Candamo is using this as an example of experience on what might be helpful, but also acknowledging that not every suggestion will be applicable or work for everyone. Regardless, there is so much useful advise within this book that I found to be incredibly useful. The fourth door, which highlights balanced management and how to be a more effective manager was the chapter that I found the most helpful for me personally as I am constantly dealing with the stresses of running a business while working multiple jobs at the moment. I believe that people will find something that they can use from each of the presented doors and this is a book that's definitely worth your time.

Five Doors of Success by Joshua Candamo is the self-help book that I've always wanted to read but couldn't find. This book is a gem, providing valuable insights into what it truly means to succeed without the need for luck, money, or influential connections.

What makes this book special is that Candamo isn't famous or rich, and he doesn't have influential friends. He's just a regular person like us. He shares his own story of starting as an immigrant without a college degree and working his way up to become a successful tech executive with a PhD. This shows that success is achievable for regular folks.

Candamo's main point is easy to understand: success isn't just about money or power; it's about being the best you. In the book, he tells lots of interesting stories and practical advice that make success feel attainable, not distant.

What I love most about this book is its relatability. It encourages you to reflect inward, understand your strengths, and embrace your individuality. Candamo empowers you to build on your existing skills and learn new ones. Success, he reminds us, is about defining it for ourselves and taking steps to reach our goals.

In Five Doors of Success, you'll discover a refreshing perspective on success that's both inspiring and practical. Candamo's wisdom is like a friendly chat, making complex ideas simple and actionable. He encourages you to be your best self and offers clear steps to help you get there.

If you've been searching for a self-help book that speaks your language and resonates with your definition of success, this is it. It's a must-read for anyone looking to succeed on their terms, and it'll leave you feeling empowered and motivated to reach your full potential. Don't miss out on the wisdom and relatability of Five Doors of Success; it's a book that can genuinely change your life for the better.

Joshua Candamo's approach to success, which acknowledges the abstract nature of the concept and the importance of individual dreams and aspirations, is indeed quite different from the conventional perspective that often focuses on wealth and corporate achievements.

The structure of the book with its five main sections or "doors" to success, each accompanied by interesting stories and practical advice, seems like an effective way to guide readers through the process of achieving their goals.

Emphasizing personal growth and utilizing one's internal resources for success is a valuable message. This approach suggests that success isn't just about external markers but also about self-improvement and recognizing the potential within oneself.

It's clear that his personal journey as an immigrant from Venezuela to the United States and his subsequent achievements provide a powerful backdrop for his exploration of success. His ability to succeed without the traditional advantages of luck, money, or influential connections is undoubtedly inspiring and offers a practical example of the principles he discusses in the book.

Candamo's acknowledgment of the varied definitions of success is a thoughtful perspective, and his use of real-world examples, such as Bernie Madoff and Elizabeth Holmes, to illustrate the difference between superficial success and genuine success is an effective teaching tool. It emphasizes the importance of ethical and community-oriented success rather than self-serving goals.

The inclusion of diverse topics like current events, scientific discoveries, and business insights to support his points adds depth and relevance to his message.

You can tell right off the bat that Joshua Candamo is a natural-born storyteller. Normally, when reading a self-help type of book, I don’t really like too many anecdotal remarks. But in Five Doors of Success, it’s done with a purpose. There’s something really refreshing about a steps to success book that both encourages the reader to find their own definition of success, and doesn’t come from the mouth of someone who was born into some sort of immense wealth or fame. Not that those born into that life can’t be successful, but it’s just to say that Five Doors of Success is that much more relatable and easier to read without it. Most of the success books I’ve read (and there have been many) talk about being “on top” in a lonely way, and say that the road to getting there is even lonelier, but Joshua shows us that it doesn’t have to be. He tells us that, while motivation, discipline, and perseverance to becoming successful may begin internally, the strategies that you utilize to become successful often involve a community, with all parties benefiting from connecting with each other.

I appreciate Joshua for writing a book on success that encourages you to reflect inward and utilize the skills and personality you already have. Lots of success gurus try to sell you on something; whether it’s an actual item or an idea that you’re not already worthy of success as you are. This book tells us that success is always possible, we just need to redirect our energy. It makes success feel a lot more obtainable, and it takes of the pressure that so many of us force upon ourselves so heavily that it becomes a barrier to our success.

What is your term for success? When do you succeed enough that you have succeeded? In Joshua Candamo latest book Five Doors to Success he tackles not just those questions but many others. Joshua came to the US as a young man with no college degree and he finds his own type of success through different trials but asking those simple yet complicated questions. He goes over things like the appearance of success versus what success really looks like for you. He discusses things around success that I have never considered such as social limitations, orientation, and exploratory affective exchange. How the relationships we build whether they are socially and professionally all go into what you consider successful. This book is a template for you to tackle one door at a time to reach what you feel is successful means to you not to the rest of the world but when you feel you have become successful. He walks you through the journey of each door and brings forth honest and truthful thoughts and tools that you can use to expand what it means to be successful. The fact that Joshua shares his stories along with his advice to you to see how they apply to life. You get a great bonus with this book but a table of contents in the beginning which means you can pick up this book after you have read it and go back and use it as a resource one door at a time. I can not recommend this to people in both business big and large and those just want to understand what success means. You get a lot of information and great resources in the two hundred and sixty-one pages and I am glad I added to my library.

📚 The Cheat Code to Success.

The book takes readers on an insightful journey which challenges the prevailing notion that success is only for some fortunates. The book clearly shows that it is possible to build prosperous future without relying on luck, money or influential connections.

Joshua put forth five principles that can transforms failure to success. One of the main principle is Self awareness. To know what other principles are, do read the book. The central theme of the book revolves around the idea that traits for success traits are not innate; instead, they are the fruits of persistent hard work and unwavering dedication cultivated over time.

The main strength of the book lies in the arrangement of the concept revealing the idea. Each chapter starts with author's personal journey upon embarking the principle. This approach depicts that not only author practices what he preaches but also takes reader in  confidence that the principle if applied can really make a difference.

What I liked the most about this book was author's journey. The crispy title and the heartfelt narration kept me enthralled. The author has subdivided the principle, simplifying its grasp. The language used is rich, filled with humorous anecdotes, practical techniques, and powerful real-life examples.

Overall, ‘Five Doors of Success’ is an insightful book rich with knowledge and wisdom. I highly recommend it to anyone on the path to success, regardless of their current circumstances. This book serves as a roadmap for anyone looking to unlock their potential and take charge of their destiny.

Five Doors to Success really caught my eye because of me and my friends situation. In addition to being on the road to success in society, like I thought we should be, I was striving for happiness. They should be one in the same no? Thats what I always thought. So when my friend kept reaching out to me asking for advice on how she can strive for success because she sees me as one of the many examples of success...I really dont know what to tell her than what I gathered from my own experiences. I wasn't sure if I was really helping so I looked elsewhere so I could gather insight on what I could do to help her. This book is the perfect example. It's just one of the many point of views on success that I was searching for, the author does a great job providing examples on finding your own path to success and not to worry about following the norm on what society deems as successful. Success is determined by you and you alone. Its your life and every journey is different. I found the best way to provide my friend in need what could really help her. The author provides several life examples of situations they realized that opened that "door" they were looking for to reach their goals to success in their own life. He describes ways he found his own versions of success that he could mold into his life to reach his goals. This is different than the normal books you find out there where it just anatomically describes each step vaguely...just enough to see what steps can do to take you there but doesn't touch on how it can relate to your own life. This book does that!

In the book “Five Doors of Success,” Joshua Candamo shares his journey as non-English-speaking immigrant to America from Venezuela. He was the embodiment of his book’s subtitle: “…Without Luck, Money, or Friends in High Places.” He persevered to ultimately earn a PhD and build a very successful business. He acknowledges that success means different things to different people, but shows how there are certain core aspects of success that we can all agree upon. He uses real-world examples of people who seemed to have success—such as Bernie Madoff and Elizabeth Holmes—to demonstrate that what might seem like success to some is really just a glittery shell. Real success doesn’t live in a vacuum, but instead invites and relies on communities to bring out the best in each other. I liked the fact that Candamo mixes in a variety of topics such as current events, scientific discoveries, and other interesting business items to prove his points and enrich the reader. It was also interesting to hear his life story, which is both inspirational and aspirational. I read a lot of self-help books, and this one stands out as unique and applicable.

Josh Candamo wrote a fantastic book to help you find success! I don't know about you, but if you're like me, you see success in different ways. Every person is different when it comes to success. I'm never going to be a media mogul, but I can be the best that I can be where I am currently placed. Candamo helped me to know more about myself as a person, be more self-aware, and really focus on who I am as a human so that I can move forward successfully.

Beyond knowing my personality better, I also need to know what skills I have, and Candamo helps me to know more about that too. I wouldn't consider myself overly skilled, but Candamo teaches that you can't be afraid to try new things and learn new skills. The more skills you have, the more effective you can be in your pursuit of success.

Success is always going to look different to different people, but ultimately, Candamo wants to point you in general directions that will help you to be the best version of yourself so that you can succeed in the way you want. This book was extremely helpful in showing me how to be more successful in my life and in my career. Great choice!

What a refreshing book on success! It is so unlike any others I have read. The author, Joshua Candamo, is very wise, insightful, and humble in his writing. He begins by acknowledging that the definition of success is abstract, noting that each person has their own dream and idea of what success looks like, and that might not have anything to do with becoming rich or climbing the corporate ladder. As such, this book is useful for anyone looking to succeed in whatever they want to accomplish. As the author says, “To be successful, you don’t have to change the world, be rich, or be famous.”

There are five main sections in the book which detail the clear and critical steps to success, which he calls “doors”. Each section begins with an interesting story, followed by the door to success, ending with advice and specifics about how to effectively walk through that door.

What I appreciated most was the emphasis on becoming the best version of yourself and using what you already have inside of you to succeed. A great read!

When you pick up a self-help book that claims to show you how to achieve success, you assume you're going to get a few hundred pages of "do this, then this, then this, and Bam! Success." Am I the only one who assumes that?

I was very excited to read this book because it's specifically NOT that. Joshua Candamo begins his introduction with a few pointed examples of what our society might consider "successful" people. But once those people achieved success - billion-dollar companies, their faces on the cover of a magazine - their lives took a turn for the worse. Do we still consider them successful? Do THEY consider themselves successful?

Candamo's advice is both practical and impactful. He shares that success is whatever you define success to be - and then provides five ways you can focus your mind and body on achieving that success. It doesn't matter whether your idea of success is being a present mom or winning a gold medal in the 2024 Olympics. Success requires self-investigation, understanding, and drive to expand yourself.

This book by Josh Candamo was an easy read on the journey to creating success for yourself. The author started his adult life with nothing, as in money, connections, or education, and yet he was able to accomplish success in many ways. Each door begins with a Journey message about his personal experiences. These are so personal and he lets you into how he was able to believe and do things to succeed. He lived a lot of his life in the Tampa, Florida area. Since I have lived here also the majority of my life, I was able to visualize where he was and what he was able to accomplish in the actual places he talked about. They were real, and what he accomplished was real and realistically possible. After the Journey message, the meat of the book provides the actions needed to succeed. This book is an inspiration and resource on how you can make be successful in our ever-changing world.

The Five Doors of Success is about five doors that the author developed that will systematically lead you to the world of success. The author goes into saying “You can’t measure success from what you see on the surface, because there’s real success and then there’s the mere appearance of success.” Success is more then just money or wealth, there are many types of success stories. Each chapter explains the principles of the five doors, to why and how to achieve them. This book is a “template, a formula, or a plan” that will push you in the right direction along the way to success. With the author’s many successes and failures through his experiences, he has compiled together what works and what does not. How do you define success? This book will help you understand the simple principles behind the process of achieving success in your professional life. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is looking for more then money and wealth.

It feels like these days everyone is striving for success. But what does that look like? As Candamo mentions in the preface of this book, success is not always what it is described to be in society. Some of the most "successful" people are not truly successful in the entirety of their lives. In this book, Candamo lays out five doors that one must go through in order to achieve success. Each section begins with a journey he had found himself on in the past that led him to realize the door he must go through to reach what he decided was his version of success. The baseline message I took from this book was to look within yourself, your strengths, and your goals in order to determine what success means to you. I greatly appreciate Candamo's writing of this book to spread his wisdom from his journey growing into tech.

This is definitely an interesting read. Candamo has lived a colorful life that few can imagine, and somehow, it got him to where it is today. That is without a question largely in part to his efforts and his ability to manipulate situations to achieve the goals he has for himself and his life. I do appreciate that he puts himself on the line as much as he does. It gives personal perspective on building a career such as his.
I do wish there was more than just anecdotal evidence for his method of success, but I suppose that really is all that is available when it comes to self-help books like these. If they are not grounded in some form of science, there is a certain element in the writing that can only be described as the fervor of faith. That, and Candamo’s self-assuredness, are both palpable in this text.

I enjoyed reading this book. Success is hard to come by and sometimes I feel discouraged because everybody seems to achieve some form of success but all I seem to achieve is great disappointment. This books gave me the want to keep trying to achieve. To see myself as a success with what I do have instead of trying to be a millionaire or a beauty actress or even a famous book writer. I can continue to be a good mom, book writer and online store owner even if no one else sees me as a success. Only I have to see myself as a success and that makes me one. Thank you for a extremely good book.

This is a great self help book intertwined with personal stories from Dr Candamo’s life and the history of Venezuela. What stood out to me in particular was when Dr Candamo talks about self awareness and really knowing yourself to be able to facilitate true success, he offers great tips and exercises on how to achieve that. This is a practical guide to achieving success in a way that doesn't rely on traditional advantages. The genuine storytelling and diverse experiences make this book more interesting than I initially thought it would be. My favorite story was the one about Henry O (at the end). I even Googled Henry, and he really exists! I also loved the story about the twins!

Five Doors of Success by Joshua Candamo is the best self-help book I've come across. It seriously is a must-read for everyone wanting to improve their life. This guides you to truly find success without money, luck, or friends in high places. Candamo is an immigrant who had nothing to start with and he explains how he builds his life to include money and achieves a PHD in the process. He starts off just like a regular joe, well maybe a little lower than a regular joe, and goes up, up, up from there.
He is completely relatable and shows us that regular people CAN DO IT!! The stories he shares are interesting and full of advice that helps us see that success is attainable. How to be the best you and why that is important in finding the future you want.
The five doors are goal points that give the reader goals and a way to mark each area of growth. So you can see your progress in becoming who you want to be. I highly recommend this book!
