📚⇢ Llegue al final de esta bella historia y sufrí muchísimo viendo como Na-Kyum es torturado (una vez más) y alejado de Seung-Ho; también me encantó el desarrollo de personaje que tuvo Mi Señor y todo lo que está dispuesto a hacer por salvar y proteger al amor de su vida. Tenía tanto miedo de que no terminaran juntos pero, al final, el amor triunfó y como el propio Seung-Ho dijo «No importa cuanto tiempo pase, nos volveremos a encontrar» y eso es justo lo que hace: busca a Na-Kyum para reencontrarse con la otra mitad de su alma y vivir la vida colmada de felicidad y amor que se merecen. Ahora esperare con muchas ganas los extras.

I started this a few months ago practically because I saw fanart of the characters literally every single day. I didn’t go into this with any kind of expectations just pure curiosity. And I’m happy to say it didn’t disappoint me at all! Just saying I was on the edge of my seat is the understatement of the year! I am blown away just by how much detail and effort was put into this story. I love anything with a concept as simply as “everything can’t be so black and white”.

At every nook and cranny I just wanted something to knock Seungho down a few notches (whether that be with a bat or a few fists). Seungho did some unfathomable shit. Yet, in this historical context of this character it sadly gives him an excuse to behave this way. A nobleman can do or take whatever he wants just as a “peasant” is to do as he is told by such nobleman at any cost to themselves. You realize that not only did Seungho never receive love, he never learned what love is as a whole. Seungho can’t identify and express what love is thoroughly and all he had was sex until he met Nakyum. [this is by no means me defending or justifying the actions of this character. These are just some additional points to consider about his character when one wants to dig deeper into his behavior.] Though a hard truth I did hope to see him achieve better for himself and grow during the novels and he did with some bumps here and there.

Pity. Empathy. Sorrow. Hate. Lust. Love. It’s really fucked up but there is no room for a wholesome and healthy relationship between these two, it’s not that kind of story. These characters connected under such broken circumstances but found hope and future within each other. Its a very complicated love story that isn’t supposed to be all peaches and cream but for what it’s worth, the characters are happy and so am I. They continue to progress forward and be happy in their own way.

seungho and nakyum in the epilogue after suffering the absolute horrors of life only to end up finally achieving their dream of a soft and happy life together: hey, look at us!! look at us. who would have thought? not me.

the end of an era is officially done and i cannot be any more sad and happy for painter of the night to be finished. the majority of the series was a guilty pleasure but at some point i ended up actually getting attached. me???? liking walking red flag (turned doting green flag) seungho???? me???? rooting for the happy ending seungho and nakyum dreamed about so badly???

this volume was so heart wrenching but also very sweet. it’s a far cry from the beginning but i’m thankful that byeonduck gave us what we got because after everything, seungho and nakyum deserves to have soft and happy things instead of constant pain and suffering

anyways. i miss them already :’(

with a very rocky start, some sweet moments and all of the characters having the ending they deserve i think it was a good read!

seungho in the first seasons was bad and a red flag and i wasn’t fond of him…. fond isn’t even a word??? i was like JAILLLLL RIGHT NEOWWWWWW!!! after hearing his story and his character development he was bearable (which doesn’t excuse his actions 🗣️) and at the end, his treatment towards nakyum was 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 so thumbs up for post season 2 seungho

nakyum is a sweetheart and see no reason to dislike him. as the story progressed we got to know more of him, though his back story wasn’t so complex. it was always nice seeing good things happen to him ☺️

fck seungho’s dad, fck the other noblemen, fck inhun 🗣️🗣️🗣️

Me ha gustado mucho el final. Empezó de una manera que se me hacía difícil seguir leyendo, pero aguanté porque los personajes están muy bien desarrollados y el dibujo representa las emociones de una manera muy viva. La "parte chunga" dura bastante, luego viene la preciosa y, por último, la que se complica. Todo el viaje es una pasada.

I really had no idea that I would come to like POTN. I read it out of curiosity and with so much to no expectation since some readers tend to bash it and say it doesnt deserve the popularity. Personally, out of all the mega popular BL manhwas, potn deserves the fame and recognition. I just think it attracts the wrong readers—children and puritans and the so called moral police readers. Anyway…

Just like most historical stories, potn deals with politics and I enjoy the political dramas and shenanigans. Most of the characters are interesting and a lot of them are so complex you wanna write a whole damn character analysis for each of them—like Seungho, his father lord Soon, even In Hun.
The art style, oh my gawd, is top-tier. The body anatomy, the expressions on the characters’ faces, they are drawn well and Im obsessed with the hands in particular. The creator is one heck of a talented artist.

Seungho is my personal fave. Hes complex, traumatised, toxic but his character development is so well-written. His past is traumatic and I couldnt imagine how the adults especially the parents could treat their own kids horribly, traumatise them physically and mentally, ruin their lives simply for being gay. But Seungho is such a gay icon, loud and proud and unhinged, the embodiment of be gay do crime.

Nakyum, on the other hand, is such a damsel in distress. It infuriates me that he always gets himself in trouble however, most of these incidents are actually planned out by people who want to take revenge on Seungho. The fact that he’s Seungho’s weakness and a lowborn as such, makes him an easy target by the nobles who are out for Seungho’s blood or just want some entertainment. I dont like that Nakyum is somewhat nosy and a crybaby but still, I love him dearly. You cannot help but root for him and keep him in your pocket to protect him. One of the things I find amusing about Nakyum is how he slowly embraces his own sexual desires and pleasures. Like this shit is really erotica. The smexy scenes are steamy and erotic, really fits well to the period set up.


What I love the most is the development of Seungho and Nakyum’s relationship. Seungho being such a huge red flag at first then becoming the sweetest lover who would do anything and sacrifice everything for his beloved—be gay do crime in joseon era.

It is such a roller coaster ride of emotions. Their love story makes me emotional, this couple went through a lot to be together. But really, all the dramas and tragic shit could have been avoided if those annoying mutts never bother Seungho and Nakyum. The finale is so sweet and satisfying

Antes que nada quiero plasmar mis sentimientos, realmente me gustó mucho este manhwa, supongo que influyó el hecho de que soy muy fan de las historias de época, ya sea china, coreana, japonesa, occidental etc soy muy fan de todo lo que transcurre en esa época de tiempo
Seungho no es tan malo como me lo pintaban, o tal vez estoy siendo indiferente¿? No lo sé, siento que e leído a peores personajes y eso hace que lo que hizo no se sienta tan mal, no lo se, pero me gusto, obviamente el abuso al que sometió a nakyum al inicio no fue justo, y muchas veces se aprovecho de su titulo para ser cruel con las demás personas a su cargo, pero sinceramente puedo decir que podría a ver sido peor, no se como sentirme con eso y mi análisis, tal vez más adelante lea esto y me diga que soy una tonta y que si era una basura, o tal vez me diga que definitivamente no fue tan malo jaja quien sabe
Me gusto que al final se quedan juntos, siento que fue un final abrupto, pero que manhwa coreano no tiene un final abrupto? Siento que no son muy buenos con los finales pero creo que eso es en general con el bl y el gl y hasta con el hetero, pero al menos se reencontraron

First of all, I was amazed at how pretty the graphics was, both the charadcters, backgrounds, details looked great. I really liked also the different art style used for paintings.
I used to be quite fond of Joseon period dramas so I liked time period used here as well, and I think it was created very well and acurrate. The caste system, the class differences, the abundance of characters which felt interesting even when they were only the background for the main charas... That was really good in my opinion.
The ending was also very sweet and thanks to it my rating for this novel was raised. The plot however... Well, kidnaping, rape, brutality etc. (although sadly rather accurate for the time period) are just not a great foundation for big, beautiful love. There was... a redemption of sorts and traumatic backstory that made the character just the way he is, and I would applaud author for trying to make him atone for his actions, but still - not my cup of tea entirely. It was interesting when it was sad and traumatic, near the end, when it wasn't about raping(by the other MC) or gang raping; and as I said before, the ending was very sweet and I liked it - just the foundation of this love story was entirely wrong for me.

This Korean webcomic follows NaKyung and Seungho’s tale of forbidden love. I already left my first impressions about the story and its premise in my review of season one, so I’ll add my final thoughts for the whole series here.

This series had really beautiful art, and I loved the characters’ clothes and expressions. This was probably the highlight of the comic for me! I was also happy that the characters got a HEA.

My main issue with this series is how choppy it is, and the plot in general was weak. At first, it relied a lot on the abusive dynamic between the MCs, and the scandalous nature of their relationship. Once that got old, random bad guys were introduced. There was great setup for there to be a big evil plot with Seungho’s father, but that was soooo disappointing. The ending of this story felt rushed and almost like a different story compared to the first 2-3 seasons. The last chapters were especially jarring in terms of pace and what happened.

Disappointing ending, but I was entertained at first 🤷‍♀️

Este es el volumen más decente de la historia, la autora finalmente desarrollo una buena trama PERO, el desenlace fue demasiado apresurado. Le otorgo a todos los personajes el final que merecían, excepto Seungho, lo que la autora describió que le hicieron de niño no justifica sus acciones, viejo rancio y feo.

Tuve que tolerar 4 volumenes repletos de pornografía para un solo volumen bueno, aun así, fue agradable tomarme el tiempo de analizar los dibujos y la técnica de la autora, sobre todo cuando ella decidió dibujar el miembro de Seungho del mismo tamaño (si no es que mas grande) que la cabeza de Nakyum.

El tener en mente que absolutamente todos los escenarios, expresiones, posiciones y diálogos fueron decisiones que tomo la autora en su totalidad y que ella sola dibujó, hace que "Painter of the Night" sea una historia placentera de leer.

El dibujo es precioso. Me encanta que Byeonduck, la autora, haya hecho una investigación profunda de las pinturas "Shunga" así como la época. Respecto a la historia disfruté el desarrollo de Seungho no así el de Na-Kyum. En este tipo de historias siempre se cuela la duda de ¿realmente se enamora el personaje subyugado o sólo se resigna a no tener escapatoria? El nivel de devoción de Na-Kyum así como su sufrimiento constante me cansaron un poco, sin embargo, la historia es tierna (quizá peca de efectista) y funcional, aunque si vi muchas escenas explicas innecesarias. Tampoco me encantó que el final fuera tan abrupto. El conflicto surge muy rápido y se resuelve igual de rápido. También los villanos me parecen endebles, por ejemplo el señor Min o el pendejo de In-hun. Pero en general está linda, me destrozó el corazón ver a Seungho devastado por la muerte de Na-Kyum, pero el final me llenó de tranquilidad. Ese abrazo del final definitivamente es cine.

Después de 4 años de su primer capítulo y 3 años de que descubriera pintor nocturno, por fin tenemos un final y estoy agradecida de que sea uno feliz.
Después de todo lo que tuvo que pasar esta pareja, soy la más feliz de que terminen juntos, en un pequeño pueblito donde podrán amarse, coincido en que me hubiera gustado algunos capítulos extra de ellos siendo felices, pero no me quejo mucho.
Después de tanto tiempo, de las mejores ilustraciones que he leído, una trama con grandes plot twist, personajes que ya amo y una ambientación tan diferente, estoy agradecida de haber leído esta historia y que me acompañará por tanto tiempo, me despido con lágrimas en los ojos de estos dos personajes que durante años vi como aprendían a amarse.
