He could remember every player's batting average. But he couldn't remember the name of the woman he slept with the night before. Cam didn't need to. He'd be on to the next the night after. Except he met her. They agreed to share one night. But her name was the only one he wanted to remember.
The only thing Makenna could commit to was detrimental to her wellbeing. It was best for her to avoid all other commitments. So, when she met Cam, she doubted it would ever become a thing. Until, it became one.

Book three in this series was like sports heaven. I will admit, MaKenna worried me in the beginning with the sleeping around all willy-nilly. I'm old-fashioned, so some of this new stuff is difficult to digest. The explanation for Makenna's problems had merit. The fact that she met a guy with her same relationship values was interesting. I suspected this would be pivotal to the next phrase in their relationship. The family dynamics parts chilled me to the bone. I wanted Makenna to win this time. Having a like-minded partnership with Cameron was good. Watching them evolve into a true couple was sweet. The story had lots of family matters, friendships and then the sports component, to make this a homerun.
This book this book this book!! This book dealt with so many issues. Addictions, life trauma and just life in general. Life was really lifeing in this book.
This is book three and is about Cameron. He has been drafted to play baseball in Denver and he is kind of struggling. He is having difficulties adjusting to being in a different state. He meets Makena and they have a steamy one night stand. He is thrown off his game because Makena tells him it’s a one and done situation. 😂😂 He wasn’t ready to meet the female version of himself. Although Makena is still on his mind, Cam takes her at her word and moves on to his regular scheduled hookups. He makes a grave error when he hooks up with a random lady he doesn’t even know. This propels him to chill and give up his one night stand lifestyle. He reaches out to Makena and she is also changing her hit it and quit it practice. They agree to date but there are a few “curveballs” which causes delays in the game of love. I won’t tell y’all what they are but get ready cause they are coming.
Anyway, Cam and Makena have to decide if what they’ve started is worth it. Are they willing to deal with the curveballs that life throws at them? Yes, of course they are!! Their journey is not smooth but it’s still beautiful.
I loved this story. It was a lot to take in but it was real. One thing about J. Nichole is that she is not afraid to make you experience all your emotions while you read her book!
Overall, I liked the idea of this story. The sobriety thing was different and not something I've seen done often so it was interesting to see them navigate that. I'm glad we got a look into the future with them.
This book was missing something that the previous two books had. I feel like a lot wasn't explained. Her dad cheated so she started drinking in 9th grade? How and when? How did she hide that? What actually went down with her and Jordan that really sent her over the edge? She should have had an in depth convo with Cam or her family about these things so we could fully understand it.
The epilogue should have mentioned how she and her Dad moved forward. She talked about all the crying because she moved right after the birth. Was she helping Violet out? We also should have seen Cam's POV in the epilogue on how his stint with the Thunderbolt was but also how he navigated moving and his relationship with Mack and her dad. There was a lot of detail missing from the book. The editing wasn't great either. There were a lot of incomplete sentences.
I loved this story. Makenna and Cam were perfect for each other. From reading the other two books in the series and hearing about Cam’s ways with the ladies, I knew he would meet his match and that something would happen to make him want to do something different. It turns out Makenna needed the same thing to happen to her. I loved their genuine chemistry and how fate seemed to keep bringing that back around each other. This was such a good book and a great addition to the series. I cannot wait to see what comes next from this author.
I was completely enthralled in this book. Cam annoyed me so much in the beginning. I get it, you’re fine, a baseball player, and lover boy. Everything he did irked me. Until he started changing his ways. Makenna as well. Like these two free spirits were meant to meet. Even the literal curveball of the book made me want to keep reading. There are still tears on my face from the last few chapters. Great job J Nichole!
Spoiler alert: I’d love a follow up on the wedding/baby. Maybe a book with all 3 friends? Idk I just can’t get enough
Once again you did not disappoint. Makenna and Cameron were such a beautiful couple. I’ve never read about alcoholism in depth but was thankful for the info. He really threw that curveball as well as hit a homerun. His mother was the best mom I have ever read about. She loved her son and he knew it. And yes, I a, still salty about Makenna’s dad. I enjoyed this one like I’ve enjoyed all the others😊
The Rookies series has me in love with sports romance. Baseball, being my favorite pastime merged the two. What can go wrong with black love and baseball ⚾️? Mack was very self aware of her weaknesses and strengths. I love that she was true to herself even while cautiously opening up her heart. Cam almost got his forever with no baggage😂 nevertheless I love them as a couple💜
Cam’s story was perfect for him. He was so unorthodox and truly against finding love that it was only right that he get thrown a curveball in the form of Makenna. These 2 had situation after situation that made it seem that they would strike out but Cam came through in the end and closed the game like only he could. I loved this Rookie series - J. Nichole did not disappoint. I love how she tells a black love story. This is an all star series!
Cam was not expecting to meet someone at the grocery store but that's what happened, Kenna was not looking for a relationship just a one night stand and it turned into something else then the unexpected baby added to the situation but in the end it all worked out for the best and Kenna was able to tell her parents what was going on being a alcoholic. Great Book
Each book gets better and better! Cam and Makenna had sparks from the beginning. I love how even though they played different sports him, Angelo and Jared remained friends. Makenna had a lot going on but Cam did not give up easy. Very good series. This author knows how to pull you in and keep reading until the end of the book.
Two people dead set against being in a relationship fall for each other lol. Cameron and Makenna were instantly drawn to each other. The love & support their famllies gave was beautiful. Violet was very mature about the situation between her and Cam. I love the storyline for Makenna. It needs to be highlighted more 😍
This was a good read and the only reason I didn’t give more stars was the outcome. I didn’t like the way the young lady gave up everything for a man. I know it’s fiction but a young lady reading this may think the out come was great but not wanting to be a spoiler, I saw so many reasons it was not😏
Makenna and Cameron met in a grocery store, hooked up on some one night stand hook up stuff but in the end they truly discovered love. Violet was an unexpected glitch in their plans and Baby CJ sure was unexpected, but love won! So glad J. Nicole dealt with real life in this novel, it was refreshing! I loved the entire series!
This is the first book I read in this series. I wanted a baseball romance read and J. Nichole is one of my go to authors. I will definitely check out the other two books soon. I really enjoyed this story. The thing I liked was that it felt real. Not all love stories are perfect cookie cutter stories. This one seemed like okay yeah that could definitely happen. 5 stars.
I didn’t like that he just ran off on ole girl once he realized what happened. That all could have been avoided. And i also didn’t like how he kinda mad Makeena an after thought while he was trying to see if his other situation would workout and she just kinda took it. It all worked out in the end but for a minute there i thought she was just be better off without him.
This was a good read, I really enjoyed reading about Cameron and Makenna, they had me worried for a moment when Violet called to say she was pregnant, but it all worked out for the best.
Cameron and Mackenna's story was as sweet and sensual as the other two couples. I loved how they didn't allow the unexpected curve balls of life strike out what they had going on. Would love an update on all three couples.
I think this was my first baseball romance. I dug it. From a one night stand to an actual relationship. I liked Makenna and Cam together, and like how everything played out with Violet. Not a lot of angst here and I loved that.
I enjoy reading this book! I didn’t know how they would make it with the same motto of one and done. Love always conquer all, even people who resist it.
What a perfect and unique book. I honestly wish it was longer just because of how connected I felt to both main characters. I could read about Cam and Makenna forever! My only grips were some of the baseball phrases sounded like they were written by someone who's never been to a baseball game, and Cam is a little stupid, but all in all a really good dude. 4.5*, I'm definitely going to be reading another J. Nichole!
