The Whole Story

Rate this book
In the midst of heartbreak, uncertainty, and days that are overfull but unfullling, it can be easy to wonder what good the gospel is for life today. Sure, there’s the promise of eternal life someday, but what about right now, when disease, broken relationships, shame, regret, and countless other burdens weigh you down? If it feels like something important is missing from your life, chances are it’s because you’ve only heard part of the gospel. In The Whole Story , Bible teacher and speaker Meredith Perryman explains that the promise of Heaven, although beautiful, is not all there is to being a follower of Jesus.

As you explore what’s missing from the familiar gospel story, you’ll discover . . . With a refreshingly down-to-earth style of teaching, Perryman makes biblical truths applicable to everyday life. The Whole Story shows you where to and the kind of hope that can sustain and free you now—and for eternity.

“ The Whole Story is a beautifully crafted tool for followers of Christ who want to better understand our raison d’etre and God’s big-picture calling on each believer’s life. At the same time, this book communicates to those who have not yet seen and embraced God’s everlasting love for them manifested in Jesus, God’s Christ. I will use this book again and again to both ends.”— Jennifer Rousseau Cumberbatch , founder and leader of Full Measure

“Get ready to have your faith unleashed! Even if you’ve been a Jesus follower for years, I think you’ll be surprised by the insights Meredith offers in this book as she challenges you to explore what too many of our Sunday school classes leave out in the retelling of the gospel.”— Lauren Lucille Vasser , stand-up comedian, speaker, producer of The Unknown

My childhood was built on a thin foundation of religion, and in my early adulthood there was a long period where I doubted there could be a God at all. My doubt in God was my lack of understanding of His love for us, and His desire for a relationship with us. Even after coming back to Christ, I have continued to struggle to see how our God is a God of LOVE. The Whole Story is so well researched and written, that this is the first time I have understood the importance and relevance of the bible stories I heard growing up. This part, the WHOLE story has changed my relationship with God and brought so much clarity and understanding for what God intended for us, now. I'm so thankful I got to read this.

This engaging and readable book will help you move from a transactional relationship with God to seeing the big picture of his love and plan for you. In clear and easy to follow prose, Perryman follows the story of the entire Bible, from creation to fall, redemption, and finally restoration. She references trusted scholars and summarizes important Biblical concepts to help the reader understand how the Bible fits together as a unified story. My favorite parts were when she tells her own personal story and shows how the truths of the Bible brought her hope and encouragement to live for God now. Her enthusiasm and love for God’s word is contagious. I can’t wait to dig into her resources list and go deeper into these ideas. I recommend this book for anyone, from those new to the Bible to those who have studied it for years, to find fresh and helpful insights into God’s character and His plan for the world.

Man, what a blessing it is to learn from people who are obedient to God’s calling. Because without them, how do younger generations learn from others in real time? Meredith is someone who has done the work and gone through trials with God, so that she can write this very book. No matter where you are in your faith, this book is for you!
