Where the Wild Things Grow #3

Witchcraft in the Woods

Rate this book
Wild things have tails, hatred always fails, and the forest knows me too well, that's why I need this magic...

Magic is a gift. A pretty miraculous one, in my opinion. It also comes with responsibilities - things like protecting the town that made this possible. Sadly, that means my last battle with the evil coven may have caused a tiny little problem.

The spell that protects this place is fading. My power is fine, but a magical ritual like that takes six wixen to make possible. That means I have two choices: I can either let it fade or work with the assholes I just pissed off.

Or, maybe I can find a third option?

Because the old coven wants me gone. Worse, they're after Zane as well. With the spell fading, the only safe place left is in the forest. And while my house is starting to get a little crowded, the things happening inside are a very different kind of magic. The kind that makes me realize all of this is worth fighting for.

Who cares if I don't like confrontation? If I want to keep the idealistic life I've been offered, I need to get over that. Otherwise, someone's going to die - and it might be one of my guys.

The battle lines are drawn.
It's my coven against theirs.
So let it be.

Witchcraft In The Woods is the last book in the Where The Wild Things Grow series, set in the larger Moonlight Universe. fell short for me

Auryn doesn’t write bad books but overall, this book and series fell short for me. This final book was more about the coven as a whole rather than the MCs. I didn’t think all the additional characters needed a POV but again this book was more about the coven. Jackson and Reese both faded to the back with the exception of the end. The drama wasn’t really there. I never felt like the broken coven ever had a chance. I loved the baby wild things.

Again, I love the inclusivity that Auryn usually brings to her books but I feel like the explanation of pronouns was overdone. Jayden goes by their pronouns. Cool. But every wild thing didn’t need to be asked what they wanted to go by. But maybe the point was to bring it to the forefront. Almost every sexuality was represented, which the town was a great setting for. I like when characters just are, instead of an explanation for every single thing. In the middle Victoria telling the crew where the guys were, we had to stop to clarify what witches, wix and wixen. It just wasn’t necessary. The black FMC being told that her white men were tall, dark and handsome is a phrase that misses the mark. Dark means something totally different to black people, tanned, white men isn’t it. Technically, Nancy didn’t need to hold the guys for 24 hours because the next ritual was in about 12 hours not 24. A good bunch of the book was repetitive.

I absolutely loved this book and it was such a great end to a fantastic series. I’m honestly sad to see it in. I need so much more. Heck I’ll take a movie or tv series please!!! Everyone down to the main characters to the simple side characters get so much credit all throughout the book.
HEA from the depths of evil to the triumph of good. The beauty of the reverse harem was so lovingly crafted. The magic described in these books was phenomenal. I loved the skunks, the trees, and the wild things

Excellent!!

Loved this final in the trilogy with a HEA...another chapter or four would’ve been brilliant...but isn’t that always the case with Auryns writing?...it’s just never enough!! Syl and her coven become the found family they all needed and the strength that binds them outclasses the greed and power hungry remnants of the founders coven. As always, highly recommend this series. Solid 6 stars.

Interesting conclusion to the series

There's a lot that I enjoy about this series - the mix of people, open-mindedness about differences, magic, and of course the natural characters. #teamskunklets

There are also some things I didn't enjoy as much. For Jayden being the lone non-binary character, there was a lot of emphasis on correct pronouns, to the point of being over the top. This seems to have replaced book one's over-emphasis on Sylvia's race, so we'll call it a wash I suppose.

No cliffhanger as this is the end of this series, though it promises to be tied into others as the author enjoys doing. The final epic scene at the end - and I'm trying to avoid spoilers - seemed problematic in a number of ways.

An example of the writing - and it was tough to pull one that would clear Amazon's profanity filter:

"Twig squeaked in a reply, and I was pretty sure the pair shared something private, but it was cute. Zane didn't even need to get mushy to make it obvious he cared about the little skunk. There was something in his eyes. An affection that looked good on him."

Though I love the story overall, I am still a bit turned off by the constant "preaching" if you will. Though this book did better about not constantly bring the "race" bot into it, we were being repeatedly lectured about "trans" and other identity issues. Throughout the whole series, I was constantly pulled out and rolling my eyes.
This is a series about magic, if you want a trans character, fine, just don't shove it down out throats.
I can accept that in series like "Gamer Girls" since that is more real life and for some of the books key to the plot.
But here, I did not appreciate the feeling of being lectured through out the series.
If it was not for that factor, this series would be easily one of my new favorites.
This series is totally worth the read and completely all consuming otherwise.
Hence, I only dropped one star. I really don't think Auryn is capable of truly writing a bad book.
I am very much looking forward to more from this world!!!

5 stars, of course!

Auryn Hadley never fails to deliver 5 ⭐️ stories, but this one was exceptional. What a way to end this series!! All the characters came together to bring about a HEA from the depths of evil to the triumph of good. The beauty of the reverse harem was so lovingly crafted. Just wanted to cry tears of happiness that Zane found his way into it and was amply rewarded for all his years of pain.

The magic described in these books was phenomenal. I loved the skunks, the trees, and the wild things. Just the best series Hadley has written, though I loved the Kiss of Death and the Rise of the Illiri series. Can’t give a high enough recommendation!

Somehow I missed this last book of the series. It just came out on audible, so of course I grabbed it. . After the way book 2 ended happily, I thought that was the end. This book surprised me how much more was involved in fixing the magic of the town and getting rid of the founders and their toxic superiority in how they lorded over the town.

I enjoyed the closer relationship with the minor characters introduced in the other books. The skunks were back, and the wild things plus many more. Watching the good magic come to life, the healing of the forest and using magic for good was awesome. I've really enjoyed this series.

First off, it was a joy and pleasure reading this series. I love how the polyamorous relationship is explained in detail as far as the relationship between each partner and the communications that take place. Most reverse harem do not cover it in this hig of a detail. I also love the fact that gender identify issues are brought up and addressed. This was a very forward-thinking book.
The drama does keep you on your toes, to say the least. Sometimes, a mother's sacrifice is to put her child in his place, and that is exactly what Dare's mom did. Nancy, well, when they say your reap what you sow; she definitely did that.
They all fought a gallant fight.

Witchcraft in the Woods, the third book of the Where the Wild Things Grow series, is an ebook I borrowed through Kindle Unlimited (KU). Auryn Hadley is one of my favorite writers-- the awesome kind I download without reading the blurb. Here is another Hadley set of protagonists I could read for another dozen books. The sentient woodlands and the primary, as well as secondary characters are blended in such beautiful relationships. I don't forget the humor-- Where the Wild Things Grow has so much to offer. I can see myself re-reading the series again.

Still want more!!

Ugh! I know this is the HEA we were hoping for, but I'm going to go into book withdrawal now! This was SO GOOD! I knew it would be but this was so much more than I was thinking it would be. The best thing about how I read is being able to form intricate pictures in my mind, so this book fed my imagination like no other!! I honestly can't wait to read what comes next!!

Hadley books are long but I just want more. This series had the least explicit content of any Hadley book I’ve ever read, I believe we even had an off-page scene 🤔? This also felt like a HFN especially for the relationship than an HEA, separate rooms and what not, “where was the puppy pile?” Now that I am writing this review I feel cheated, cheated I tell you, but I still enjoyed myself.
Thank you Ms Hadley!

Love it!

This was a good series. I read it in about 3 days, thought about it when I wasn't reading, and enjoyed every second of it. A.H. is one of those authors that I just love. Every book I pick up I get invested with. I've read Rise of the Illiri half a dozen times, and I always try to recommend this author to literally everyone. If you're considering picking this up, just do it. You won't regret it.

Worth the read

Auryn Hadley is a good author and this is set in the same universe as the Wolves next door, which was how I was introduced to her work.

I love when the trusty sidekicks become the mvps in the story, and there were plenty of such moments in this one. Loved all of them. It's a story of family, love, honesty and kindness. I loved the concept.

I hope the author continues to write more in this universe. I definitely recommend reading her other series as well.

Cute but abrupt ending

I enjoyed the series. It was cute, funny, sweet, and, at times, just enough tension to keep readers invested. The alternate POVs I know were added to give us those scenes firsthand instead of hearing it after the fact through our 4 main characters. But it still was jarring reading it from someone other than their POV. And while I enjoyed the way things wrapped up, the epilogue felt more like a tease than a true wrap.

As always, a phenomenal world!!

Love auryn's world's- allll of them and this one is no exception! The story and world building flows so incredibly well. This story was a little less on the fun smexy times than others, but the story doesn't suffer for that. Any of her books are a definite must read!!

I laughed, cried, and fell in love

I started the series a little skeptical, and with this last book, I wanted more. No spoilers, just a fan who is going to say yes, it's worth it. She does an amazing job bringing everything together in a way that makes sense and leaves you wanting more.

That wrapped up things

Well this was a nice conclusion to this series. But I feel like I’ve mentioned this in previous reviews… this entire story just felt old/redundant/stale. The structure of this story reads almost the exact same way as her previous poly-amoury stories. But I’ll give Hadley credit, this definitely didn’t feel preachy the way the last one did.

heartwarming ending!

I loved this magical series that featured second chances and found family in addition to a wonderful magic-filled universe.

I really appreciated the inclusion, matter of fact explanation, and acceptance of lesser known members of the LGBTQ+ community; and that the female lead character was biracial.

I enjoyed the conclusion to this imaginative PNR tale, and the role each of Sylvia’s crew played in the final battle against the founding families (aka the old coven). I did find the story overly wordy at times however.

There’s plenty of drama & angst, some humour, conflict and magical action along with several explicit sexual encounters including MM and MF.

The perfect end.

I loved this story. As always with this author the relationships are both believable and complex. It makes you feel invested in the story in a way plot alone cannot. I hope we see more from this universe.

Fantastic End to an Amazing Story

I couldn't wait for this to release and it did not disappoint! I loved Sylvia, Reese & Jackson's but seeing the evolution and inclusion of Nora, Beth, Erika, Jayden and especially Zane was ❤️ 💖 Definitely recommend this trilogy

Brilliant

Fantastic end to the trilogy. I think this one is my new favourite. I do love a story with mature characters, and Auryn nailed this one. Friendships, magic and romance (chefs kiss), it was beautiful.

Yesssss

Our newest family from Auryn gets a happy ending, and it is such a good one!

I was so excited to start this one, and it did not disappoint. Much like all her other books, this one had an amazing world and even more impeccable characters.

Such a stellar read!

Amazing

I can categorically say that this series is one of the best I've read in a long time, sometimes I just need the good guys to win more times than they lose throughout the different books, and this series does just that and more, it's an absolutely amazing read.
