USA Today Bestselling Author Carrie Pulkinen has always been fascinated with things that go bump in the night. Of course, when you grow up next door to a cemetery, the dead (and the undead) are hard to ignore. Pair that with her passion for writing and her love of a good happily-ever-after, and becoming a paranormal romance author seems like the only logical career choice.
Before she decided to turn her love of the written word into a career, Carrie spent the first part of her professional life as a high school journalism and yearbook teacher. She loves red wine and chocolate, and in her free time, she likes to read, take pictures, and spend time with her family.

As long as you don't put too much brainpower and try and make the events in this book make sense, then it is quite an enjoyable read.
This was a page turner right from the beginning for me! The main character, Ash, is so easy to like! She has a lovely personality and a few of the things she said/did had me smiling to myself! The book has a very light hearted feel and the faintest amount of spice… it was set up in a way where the following books can naturally evolve into something with more depth and spice. To me, this was a perfect introductory book for this series!.

✨ TᕼᗴᗰᗴՏ ✨ Witches of Salem Supernatural style story but with witches- same and Dean would approve Varied magical powers, spells and potions
🙄𝑺𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒍𝒅 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝑹𝑬𝑨𝑫 𝒊𝒕 𝒐𝒓, 𝑳𝑰𝑺𝑻𝑬𝑵 𝒕𝒐 𝒊𝒕? (𝑊ℎ𝑎𝑡𝑠 𝑏𝑒𝑠𝑡- 𝐵𝑜𝑜𝑘 𝑜𝑟 𝐴𝑢𝑑𝑖𝑜?) The audio was very enjoyable! I'm very glad I listened to it however I think you could read it or listen to it and get the same level of enjoyment.
⚔️WARNING⚔️ -This is a series and must be read in order, the story builds and unfolds as each book goes on.
🎧𝔸𝕦𝕕𝕚𝕠 𝔹𝕠𝕠𝕜 ℝ𝕖𝕧𝕚𝕖𝕨: of the 3 book collection- Absolutely amazing! Great narrator and great stories! I loved the inflexions and tones of the narrator's voice, it was refreshing to be able to tell one character from the next, especially male and female.
The books themselves were so well-paced and easy to get lost in! The world-building was clear and detailed and yet it wasn't heavy or overwhelming.
I loved the banter and ex-boyfriend energy of shade, his character was especially strong and I felt and believed everything about him. I enjoyed how cocky he was and his powers and strength really suited him.
On the subject of characters, I felt the character growth throughout the story. Each side character had a role to play they were never forgotten about, they also grew and developed and had a rightful place in the plot.
I hold my hands up as a now and forever devoted fan of Carrie Pulkinen, whatever she writes, I will read.
🌍 𝕎𝕠𝕣𝕝𝕕 𝕓𝕦𝕚𝕝𝕕𝕚𝕟𝕘, 𝕨𝕣𝕚𝕥𝕚𝕟𝕘 𝕒𝕟𝕕 𝕡𝕒𝕔𝕚𝕟𝕘: Each book had a great feel to it, the pacing was so well done that you were constantly entertained and enthralled by the story. It's med-fast with no slow spots and the spice is well written into the plot. I enjoyed the spicy scenes- of which there were a few, it didn't go on for as long as I personally like (meaning they were just so hot for each other that they got it on rather than a slow tense build up or teasing start) but that's a personal preference obviously. Each scene was hot and steamy and oh so delicious, Carrie writes her spice like you're a naughty voyuer, standing cloaked in the shadows...
Cough cough... OK, moving on, the world-building in these books is authentic and spooky. Being set in Salem gives the reader a basic foundation of the world so no big info dumps or giant chunks of detail are warranted. Instead, we are gifted smooth transitions from one place to the next, and details of the magic being used take up most of the depth. It was highly enjoyable to see the story unfold with such a variety of magic being used and even more so- to have that variety being cast in different ways! I adored the healer's powers and the potions needing to be used, but the tattoos were my favourite magic! There was also powders being thrown and spell work being incanted, plus all sorts of dark and demon magic too!
🧝♂️ ℂ𝕙𝕒𝕣𝕒𝕔𝕥𝕖𝕣𝕤: The characters absolutely made the story feel alive, we were taken on a tour of Salem by a wide range of main and side characters and each one held a good portion of the story and had a good reason for being there. Some books I read seem to set up side characters all over the place but don't give them a purpose or a storyline to hold, not this author though. We are introduced to them slowly and within the plot or subplots, so again there are no chunky bits to remember or get through.
😥 𝕎𝕙𝕪 𝕟𝕠 𝕗𝕚𝕧𝕖 𝕤𝕥𝕒𝕣𝕤? This is a selfish reason- I wanted more... I know these are short stories but I wanted more lore and history and background. However, after getting to the end of book 3 I can see that this will all unfold as I continue reading through the series...
🪧𝔽𝕚𝕟𝕒𝕝 𝕥𝕙𝕠𝕦𝕘𝕙𝕥𝕤: Whether it's spooky season and you want the vibes, or it's January and you need a distraction, this series will hold you in a bind and not let you go! It's full of lol banter, tension, spice and great characters with a diverse magic system full of wards, potions, incantations and exorcisms!
⭐️⭐️ I managed to finish it but it was rubbish. I won't keep a physical copy and won't recommend it, but it's a shame as the plot could have made a good book in another author's hands
⭐️⭐️.5 It was OK. I wish I hadn't started this one as it didn't do it for me as I struggled to read it. It had an interesting premise that fell flat but I had to see what happened in the end.
⭐️⭐️⭐️ I don't regret reading it, and I will read the next one, but this one did have a few flaws. [These could be repetitive writing, gaps or plot holes, better character growth or world building, areas needing more detail] Generally, the book lacked depth and became confusing. The plot resonated with me even though it annoyed me on the whole.
⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 I'm glad I read it. I enjoyed it and would recommend it to the right people, but I wanted more! Sadly, it's easily forgettable with a few issues I just couldn't overlook/get past.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Good book! I loved it, but... I needed more! I really did enjoy it, but it had a few parts that needed more detail or added history/background or lore. But that's because the story or characters were memorable, and the plot was strong with brilliant twists. I would re-read if I needed to catch up for the next book and would recommend.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 Great book! I truly wish the story had been thought about more, or the author had been given more time as this book is so close to brilliance! I will likely read again and will definitely be recommending it to all!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ WOW! Absolutely amazing book! Well written with great characters and a plot so memorable that it will stay with me. I will definitely read this again, I will be recommending it and sharing it with the whole world! Also- I NEED A PHYSICAL COPY!
🔥⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🔥 This is my God level tier. The book must be perfectly memorable. Even after reading 50+ more books, I will remember character names and emotions along with the plot. If there is a special edition, then I need to own it! If there is a conversation on books- I'm talking about this!

I voluntarily reviewed a copy of "CHAOS AND ASH" OMG!! I love this story it grabs you right from the start so full of humor, mishaps, intrigue, danger, angst, crazy demon, witch spell gone wrong, twists that keeps you addicted to this riviting page turner to the end. Cinder, Ash, Ember, Chry, Shade, Miles & Ginger head to Cemetery to take out Vampire nest ASH is to stay in the Van because she's banned from from monster hunting, she lights a tree on fire but it jumps from tree to tree she screwed up & Shade save her life, sirens in the distance they need to leave. ASH is known as the Ink Master but she messes up a summons putting Chaos himself in her head & she has two weeks to get him out or he takes over & she'll be in his head no problem for a Flame Torch Witch of Salem, yeah right. ASH is a librarian & Sigil Artist she'd done 5 Sigil's in a row that would've take its toll even on her dad humans would take of the fire she left in the cemetery, her dad warned ASH to never do new Sigils alone. I definitely recommend to get this excellent well written story Ash & Chaos take you on quite the journey, he talks in her head & she answers out loud to funny when it's only her, their conversations are hilarious, I am Chaos Prince of H*ll why'd U summoned me, she giggles your saying your a demon, I'm no simple friend, I'm a commander of Armys, a Destroyer of all who Vex me, where's my head. I'm so looking forward to "CLAIMING CHAOS" next book in this phenominal series you absolutely can't miss.
4/5. Ash is a Holland witch from Salem, and she is the new Ink Master. With her sister, Ember, they work together within their coven, protecting the modern town of Salem from monsters and demons. The two are struggling to keep things in order as both their parents and oldest sister, Cinder, have disappeared. Ember does the fighting, Ash is the librarian and Ink Master, putting magical sigils on different hunters. Things turn when Ash discovers unknown sigils protected in Cinder's room. Labeled “Control over Chaos”, Ash puts the sigil on herself with the intent of organization, when in fact she accidentally summons the demon Prince of Hell, Chaos. She needs to get him out of her head, and she doesn’t have long to do so before becoming one with Chaos.
I enjoyed this as a fairly quick read. Ash has very low self-esteem and is kind of an idiot with tattooing the unknown sigils onto herself without any research, especially being the “organized freak.” The magic and description of the creatures is well done, and I love the slight world-building. I wish the story told more about the parents and sister's disappearance, but that's what I’m guessing the next few books in this series are about! I have a feeling there will be a blooming romance between Chaos and Ash, as well as Ash becoming more powerful and in tune with her magic.
The FMC really bothered me in this one because she tried out an unknown spell on herself (horrible idea) without any thought or research whatsoever. It especially bothered me later once I found out that If your sister is researching something and then goes missing and you find her diary next to a textbook, you gotta read the diary before you just go off and do your own thing. Furthermore, her habit of just talking back out loud to the voice in her head was incredibly grating. She seems very dumb. It was obvious to me that the demon could see through her eyes, but she didn’t realize it until much later, but even after that she never thought of writing her replies to the MMC down in a notebook or on her phone, and needed constant reminders from her sister to put an earbud in so she doesn’t look crazy loudly talking to herself, and also seemed annoyingly reticent to relay the conversation over to her sister even when it was relevant.
The ending is a “to be continued” that is pretty unsatisfying but idk, I maybe will wishlist and read more later. I bet the series could’ve been a single novel though >.>
Okay, furst off the star was for editing... I'm a great editor, btw... I'm just saying!
There were things I didn't like, only they were a personal preference, so I let that go. I won't detract a star for a food story just because I prefer a less modern one.
The writing is good, the story is engaging, and despite certain preferences, I was actually pulled in and invested in the characters. To me... this is of the utmost importance. Taking precedence over anything else including editorial issues, what I prefer, and so forth. I'm widely read from Catcher in the Rye to works such as War and Remembrance. I'm adding this because no matter how "high brow" or "low brow" you believe a story to be a mark of a good author is thier ability to pull you in. I feel the author accomplished this, and based on this alone , I would recommend this book to readers who enjoy a good fantasy novel.
Yes, there are editorial issues. Yes, there are things I personally would have liked to be different. However, overall, it's a good story that readers will enjoy. I hope this helps and happy reading!
I read this in a day. It was so action packed and entertaining, I had to see if Ash was going to make it out alive. Am I looking forward to the romance between Chaos and Ash? Oh, yes! I am also looking forward to the next book and how they will break this curse of their missing family members.
Chaos and Ash is the first book in the Fire Witches of Salem series.
This kept my attention from the start. Ash is a witch, ink master and a monster hunter. Her parents and oldest sister have disappeared, possibly dead and her sister is the coven leader. While trying to find out where her older sister has disappeared to she finds a paper with 3 sigils under her mattress. So she tattoos one of them onto her arm and Chaos ensues - in more ways than one. She has accidentally called a demon called Chaos into her mind and he is now part of her. The big problem - she only has a limited time to find his skull and release him from her body before he takes over. As the veil between earth and hell gets thinner the witches have to fight all sorts of demons, trolls etc, lots of adventure. There's also trouble brewing from another coven. All with a dash of hot steamy romance. This is just the excellent taster for the next books - marvellous.

The book started out not really being my taste of book, it seemed too much like a young adult book for me, but it actually grew on me. When Ash accidentally summon a demon attached to herself, it was more fun to read the book. The banter they have is really funny and you get a picture of what Chaos may be like even though he is only a voice in her head.
The book was easy to read, there is a red thread through the entire book, and I have already purchased book 2 to start reading evause i really want to see what happen next!
I give this book 4 out of 5 stars because i was not intrigued in the beginning, for me this book is still borderline too young adult for me, and I found a few misspellings.
I could however recommend this book to 15+ into paranormal stories.
Ash is the third daughter of the Holland witches of Salem. But sadly she has no control over her fire. Her parents and older sister have gone missing and her next older sister, Ember, is now high priestess. Ash is an ink master and uses spells and potions. After finding a sigil book that was missing she found a sigil inside the book and inks it on her. Chaos, a prince of Hell, inhabits her body. To get him out of her she has to find his skull. So between fighting demons and closing rifts her and her sister are on the search for his skull. Will it be found in time before he takes over completely? OMG! This story will leave the reader breathless from the action!!.

I don’t know why I even tried. I wish any author would write a book for adults, with an adult FC who’s competent and capable and can stand on her own two feet while also being spicy without falling into the YA writing trap. To me, any book that doesn’t have spice is a YA. Meaning it can be read by teens (12-18). This is one of them.
I probably would’ve liked this 10 years ago when I still found enjoyment out of stupid pick me FCs, but after reading the same formula over and over and over and over and over again, you start to resent it. 🤨
I’ll give it 2 stars for writing and narration. Maybe 3. But if you’ve read other series by this same author, you probably will be bored because it’s the same formula, plot, and characters pretty much. Even the same jokes. 😞

I really enjoyed this book. Good world building and wonderful characters. This story was such a fun adventure. I loved both Ash and the demon Chaos. The story had humor and the characters were quirky. How Ash somehow trapped a demon inside of herself and now was on a time crunch to get him out before he fully took over is not an everyday oops and I couldn't wait to see how things would play out. I loved the banter between them. Ash's personality was fun. That cliffhanger! Can't wait to delve into the next book. I listened to this in audiobook narrated by Holli Jackson and I think she did a great job bringing these characters to life.
Ash is a Salem witch with quite the pedigree and a gift for ink as the Ink Master. But she really messed up by accidentally possessing herself with the demon, Chaos. Now she has two weeks to undo what she did.
This is the first book in a new series by Carrie Pulkinen and it was an absolutely amazing read! It was well-written with well-developed characters and a fast-paced plot. I was drawn into this captivating tale and kept hooked from beginning to end. This story has humor, magic, intrigue, and suspense as well as a hint of possible romance. I loved this book and am looking forward to the next one. I highly recommend this book.
This story is an exciting adventure in which a family of powerful witches is looking for their missing sister. There is a curse and an accidental sigil gets a chaos demon stuck in Ash's head. It's a confusing experience for her but it could also be lethal if she can't separate herself from the demon in time. The storyline of the missing sister is not completed here as there are more books to come. I was entertained by this humorous paranormal written in the first person POV, and I am looking forward to the other stories. Steam level: some sexual references but nobody's testing the demon horns here.
Audiobook: I was entertained by this story. I have visited Salem, so it was fun to remember the city from the setting of this tale. I enjoyed the characters. I liked the bond between the two sisters, and I felt for them as they worked to solve the task of getting the demon out of Ash's head. I am looking forward to the next book in the series. I thought Hollie Jackson's narration was spot-on and her performance provided definitive voices for the characters. I was given a copy of the audiobook through Spotify. I volunteered, without financial gain to post this review which reflected my honest opinions regarding this audiobook.
I spent much of my childhood in Salem, so this definitely had my attention right out the gate. A very sassy witch accidentally summons a chaos demon? Sounds fun to me …
I loved the creepy, witty, pedantic demon, he made me laugh several times.
Set in Salem, MA. Witches, other supernaturals. Demons & demon possessing. Magical fire. Spells. Banter. An old curse.
Overall: Fun and super cute. Couldn’t help but appreciate the skill Carrie demonstrated in making a demon-possessed, magic-wielding witch feel relatable. 4 stars.
🎧 Audio: Fantastic narration and very professional audio production! Excellent.
This book was so good. It was also very descriptive when describing Chaos, the demon prince in both forms. I was swooning over Chaos the entire book, but I was gone at the end with his smirk. Whenever any main male character in any fictional book I read or have read or show I've watched smirks, I'm gone, I've lost my soul at the point there's no coming back until I finish the book. The banter between Chaos and Ash and even the side characters was very fitting for this book. I like the demon, lesser demon, and Fae fights because I don't really read books about witches and magic, but this one was fun to listen to and had me wanting to keep listening until the end.
Gleeful Goblin Review: I adore this author and the worlds that she builds out. Chaos & Ash is so engrossing from the very start and is everything I love in lighter hearted urban fantasy worlds. There's great dramatic tension, wonderful sense of humor, and witty dialogue galore. Our heroine is living that #SeriesOfUnfortunateEvents type life because despite being an Ink Master there's .....a bit of a hiccup where a summons goes oh so wrong to the point Chaos is inside the house so to speak. Now, Ash is under a tight deadline to undo that snafu or her head won't be hers anymore! I had so much fun listening to this book and I absolutely can't wait for the next installment. 5/5 Stars
Ash accidently ends up with a demon in her head (Chaos himself), she didn't intend to put him there, but now she needs to get him out. Ash comes from a long line of monster hunters, so surely she can figure it out. Will she tell her sister about the trouble, she might have brought upon herself? I loved the wicked sense of humour of this story, the banter between Chaos and Ash, and the gripping tale that was weaved. Gimme more.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Fast paced, action packed, funny, and over flowing with danger, drama and intrigue, this was such a great start to this series as we meet Ash a fire witch who has no control over her powers. Also known as an ink master, Ash makes the mistake of inviting a demon into her and trapping him in her head. Whoops! She’s only got 2 weeks to get Chaos the demon out of her head or he takes over for good and so her adventures really begin. With a gripping and exciting storyline and amazing world building, once started I just could not put this down.
Chaos and Ash are amazing, I enjoyed their interactions. Poor Ash just wanted to organize the chaos in the library and instead got the demon Chaos. Ash moves forward and is doing everything she can to fix her mistake, but time is not on her side. Chaos has an opinion about everything, I enjoy how he teases Ash. I definitely can not wait to read the next book in this series. I highly recommend you read this book, it is very engaging. I received a copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I absolutely loved this story. Fast paced and entertaining. Once I started, I couldn't stop reading. Ash is such a loveable and relatable character. Chaos does everything he can to get a rise out of Ash. The tension between these two characters is so tight there's no choice but for it to snap!!
This is a sweet but slow burn paranormal romance about witches and demons. I have no doubt once the hellfire starts, we're all going to burn.
A great start to a new series. I can't wait for book two!!
Are the missing parents and sister gone because of evil or did they banish themselves? Ash and Ember the remaining siblings are on the hunt to either find the family or find out what actually happened. Unknowingly, Ash attempts to create a simple spell to clean up the chaos that was her library; instead Ash actually invites the Prince of Chaos inside of her. Will the demon help or hinder their efforts in gathering information on the family?
Great start to a new series; I got sucked in right off the bat and could not put it down. I will be moving onto the second in series now- stay tuned.
Yes! Finally an FMC I can relate to! There were some really funny moments between Chaos and her and the way he was his own character despite being put in the predicament he was, and then her handling it the way she know how. I've missed reading about witches.
It's quite generic how Shade acts, and Ember annoys me because she hasn't actually grown into her own yet but has to play the part. However I do respect her leap before you look nature. I could never do that.
I absolutely cannot stand freaking cliffhangers, but this really had me wanting to grab the next one to see how it all unfolds.
Ok it’s now 2am and just finished first book almost couldn’t put it down except for 1st all dancing episode of strictly and then only cause watching with mother. So had to put down hence time any how have just ordered next four and preordered fifth one. So I’d say get reading seriously good fun loving this fire witch demon mix. Woo hoo on to next book. Enjoy. Ps don’t start just before 1st Strictly all 15 dancing episode especially if promised to watch live with mummy ... just saying 😂
Great start to a new series! The author brings strong characters in Chaos and Ash and weaves a humorous, intriguing and entertaining story with witches and a demonic possession. She does a fantastic job developing the story and pulled me in with the thrilling storyline. She brings it to life with her descriptive scenes and moves the story fluidly. I'm looking forward to the next book.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.
Sometimes I want to read a book just based on the blurb. With “Chaos and Ash”, it was like that. And the story did not disappoint! The main characters are great, the conversations witty and the story fast paced. So no wonder I finished this book with its 150 pages in three days. It is the first in a series, so the end of the story is open. I am hooked and definitely want to read on!.

Chaos and Ash by Carrie Pulkinen is the story of…well, Chaos and Ash! She’s a Fire Witch...who accidentally becomes possessed by a demon, Chaos. But, there’s more to it than that!!! Time is running out and things look dire!!!
I adored this touching, sweet, paranormal, slow-burn romance…that has plenty of action and LOTS of heart!!! I gobbled up this light, engaging read!!! This was the first book in a new series, the Fire Witches of Salem!!! Can’t wait for the next!
