I wasn’t sure how to feel about carcel in the first few chapters but I began to like his character once him and ines officially got married. I absolutely love ines. she’s such a strong heroine and deserves the world 🙏🏻.
This eats, it’s like Bridgerton with even more complex characters. Inés deserves a happy ending fr she’s gone through so much, I’m liking how her character is developing through the story even Cárcel is showing layers behind him so yeah I’m rocking with this!
Actually, more handsome loser men should be told just how unlikable they are to their stupid, pretty faces. Inés is RIGHT.
Anyway.
This is GREAT.
Usually, I hate these reincarnation/“do-over” type stories where a character who experiences a tragedy gets an opportunity wind back the clock and try to avoid that fate. Because they’re almost exclusively BAD. Or, worse, just plain stupid. (Don’t @ me. You know I’m right.)
But, this one has an actual premise????
(Shocking how much that improves a story.)
More, Inés is a female character with real motivations. She has convictions and integrity. She’ll die for them. She DID. I’m so enraptured by her. Her presence consumes every page she’s on.
And, then there’s Cárcel.
He’ll become a better man—if he knows what’s good for him.
I love a pathetic loser man with that energy.
He’ll change his behavior because he’s afraid of the consequences of what will happen if he doesn’t? GOOD.
(That’s how you know this is a fantasy, btw.)
Anyway, anyway.
This is great—highly recommend. If you want an actually good, het manhwa, check this one out~
Carcel didn't like the idea of an engagement and marriage with the society's crow who apparently likes him very much, Ines. After 17 years of engagement, Ines finally said that he didn't care about Carcel anymore and she's willing to overlook his cheating and fooling around with other women. Now, Carcel is obsessed with Ines. Men are such simple creatures.
i love stories like this :( hahahahaha he is now Ines's dog. such a freak. the manhwa is comparably LIGHTER and less extensive than the novel. lol.
I found the manhwa first and was immediately hooked, and now that season 2 has ended and with cliffhanger, i need to know what happened!! I didn't know how to feel about Carcel at first, but his redemption is good after His and Ines's marriage. He literally turned into the most loyal dog for her😆🙃. And Ines, she is such a strong character😭and deserves all the happiness.
Found this randomly at the library. This has a great plot, intriguing dialogue, and good yearning, but I was kind confused about what exactly was going on and had to reread it😅 this did set the tone for a complexly layered and interesting story, but not something I’d personally go out of my way to read (esp since it’s currently being translated and will take forever to get published in the US 😭) Very well done though, just not for me!
CW: Cheating, Depression, SA and domestic abuse (Past life), Loss of a child (Past life), and Suicide (Past life)
When I first got into this on Tappytoon, it was from an ad on Instagram that made me think that it was a typical cheesy romance story (which I like), so when I actually started reading it, I was actually really surprised by how invested I got into it.
The storyline, characters, pacing and art are so good. I binge read this because I couldn't stop myself and I wanted to know how Ines and Carcel's relationship would develop. It's interesting how this we get to see both Ines and Carcel's POVs in this story and the angst in this is chef's kiss, like seriously. Carcel was love with her while Ines was just using him.
And Ines's first and second lives were horrific and it's no wonder that she was the way she was, but even so, her tenacity to keep living out is admirable. I think she's a complex character but I think there's still a lot that we don't know about her, which makes this story much more interesting. There's so much angst material in this that I'm really looking forward to reading S2 and beyond. My only complaint is that there were certain scenes that I had to reread because I found it difficult to distinguish whether it was the present or a flashback.
have the same thoughts as before. so, this review will be about the entirety of season 1: ahhhh i love this couple so much. i'm so glad cárcel woke up and realized inés is who he wants. even though the couple's relationship has somewhat improved, we're not at the stage where she's reciprocating his feelings and is still trying to encourage cárcel to cheat. i love the art style as well. i just want their feelings to be mutual such that cárcel can enjoy being with her knowing that it's mutual and for inés to have a happy life in this life.
> Man suddenly became a whipped, clingy golden retriever husband after getting married. Cute.
>“You remind me of the mermaid. Perhaps its because I love you. I must love you enough that I am willing to drown. I love you so much that I can hardly breathe. Sometimes, I love you so much that I become a bumbling fool. And perhaps its also because you don’t love me at all” 💔
> Chapter 44: Im actually crying so much after reading how highly Raul thinks of Ines. After hearing the butler insult his mistress in front of him, he then preceded to explain how much value she added to his life and even said she was like a god to him. 😭 The fact that this isnt even a romantic connection between them, makes it even more meaningful.
“ Faulty? The speck of dust on her shoulder is worth more than your entire being”
> “Its okay if you don’t love me anymore. Its okay if you dont love me that much. If you dont think of me the way I think of you, I just have to be ahead of the others. Just a little more, as it is now. I want you to treat me more privately. I’ll be satisfied with that. Just care about me, Ines.”
> Chapter 49: Ines is eating this butler up. This scene is incredibly BADASS. And all she had to use is her words. Damn son!
“Him? Show ME mercy? I am not Carcel’s maid. I am his wife. I am also the daughter of Duke Valeztena. Therefore, he has no right to ever show me such a thing.”
> “I want you to care about me more. Just a little bit more please. I wont dare ask for your love.”
He’s so pathetic. Gimme more!
> Ines’ first gift to hubby was a dead fox. He was so happy lolz.
> He says “cute” to everything she does. This couple is adorable.
>Carcel’s letter was so sweet 😢
“The way you smiled at me felt like I was staring straight at the sun at its highest peak above the ocean. And as you rushed over to me, all the stars in the universe might as well have been spilling over me. The moment I hugged you, I became the richest man in the world.”
> Actually sobbed a couple of times reading this manhwa.
**Will update once more chapter updates come out**
[This review covers up to episode 114 on Tappytoon, but the comic is ongoing.]
This is a really excellent regression RF manhwa; the art is beautiful, the plot is great, and the characterisation is particularly excellent. There's also a great thread of humour in the writing and storyboarding that is really fun in the middle of an otherwise pretty serious and dramatic story.
Ines and Carcel are both super engaging, and it's easy to root for them both individually and as a couple. Because they are detailed and interesting with hopes and dreams and flaws, the twists and turns of their relationship also feel very realistic. Neither of them are one-note. Carcel is a far more interesting ML than the usual besotted tsundere because he's more than just an obsessed puppy; he's got darkness in him as well. Similarly, Ines has a really realistic arc in overcoming her trauma and changing her mind about what it is she actually wants from life. They start with a very black cat x golden retriever vibe, but they travel so much further than that.
The plot is sufficiently intricate without being overwhelming, and there's a really good backdrop of secondary characters and settings. I confess to being slightly confused in the latter episodes since I thought Ines had lived 3 lives, only now it seems like it's a lot more than that? But the story can carry the load. Similarly, it deals really well with the idea that Ines has had multiple loves, multiple traumas, and that she's scared and running away and really, truly focused on her own survival. The whole 'escaping death flags' thing is a common trope, but I've rarely read a story where I felt the protagonist's fear so strongly.
Overall, this is excellent in every way. I really, really wish it was complete, because now I don't know if it'll be years before I actually get to read the ending. Judging by the way the rest of the story has been handled so far, I think the ending is going to be a banger; very satisfying and romantic for a well-deserved happy ending.
"Intelligent" female lead. Sigh.. I have no idea why others skip on her toxicity. Because she's so smart (well, she thinks she is, but I don't agree) she thought it's going to be a best idea to give her chosen future husband a free pass, while he was still a kid. Basically saying "I won't care that you will who*e around, aren't you happy?" I also have compassion for her story, but not for her current "smart" actions. Let me explain. She is in the mostly feudal era where women's rights are nothing but an empty sound, why is she so sure that divorce will make her life easier for her? Her family can still get to her, others too (incuding that insane prince). So tell me, where is this a smart choice? She managed to spoil an absolutely healthy boy who could have grown up with her and she could lead him as a Plan B (if she's so scheming).
Also her past life, I think she did not learn much from them. In the first one she was brought up as an empty-headed bullimic hot cake. She thought marrying the prince will be great, until the Impreial family showed their true face (honestly, kinda hate this part of storytelling where things should be made even worser as if there's no end to it). Later she was reborn and decided that a simple life will be better, but empty head forgot to fill the gaps that as a simple person, her family is a powerful noble house that can easily hunt her down, the rest was tragic and predictable. I do feel sorry for her. But honestly she did not live enough (if you count in years she had a wake-up call) to gain any real wisdom. Her stubborness to me acted against her. This is why she had the brilliant idea - I will change the prince for Carcel. You can throw a shoe at me and I will throw it back at you, but I feel bad for Carcel. Being brainwashed by a person who is an adult in child's body, she gave him ideas while he was young and impressionable, but he happened to be of a noble character. Part of me is like "girl, you don't deserve this good boy, you lucky you have him". Anyway, the beginning was something like this to me.
Ach jaaa…
The exact blend of political drama, reincarnation angst, and “I am five steps ahead of everyone here” energy that I devour like candy.
First of all, Inés Valeztena? She is not your average noble lady. She is a woman who has lived, died, and come back with the emotional exhaustion of someone who has seen several lifetimes too many. She walks through high society like she’s reading from a script she’s already memorised. The quiet confidence? The steel under the silk? I was obsessed from page one.
Across from her is Cárcel Escalante, the empire’s crown prince, adjacent playboy who thinks life is one extended bachelor party. He’s charming, he’s chaotic, he’s a little clueless… and he has no idea that Inés is playing chess while he’s still figuring out the rules of checkers.
Their childhood engagement has been dragging on for years, fueling the gossip circuit, but Inés seems totally fine with marrying a rake. TOO fine. Suspiciously fine. And that’s when you realise: she’s not here for love...she’s here for strategy. For control. For survival in a world that has already failed her once.
What I loved: ✨ Inés being the calmest woman in the room because she has lived this timeline before ✨ Cárcel having the audacity to try to be a Good Man at the worst possible moment ✨ Heavy political undercurrents + beautifully layered character motivations ✨ The art...stunning, atmospheric, emotionally loaded ✨ A slow burning tragedy meets romance vibe that made me ache
A fantastic opening to a complex, emotional, character driven manhwa. I’m fully invested in this doomed marriage and all the secrets wrapped inside it.
the broken ring: this marriage will fail anyway follows Inés Valeztena, daughter of a powerful noble family, and Cárcel Escalante, cousin of the crown prince. they’ve been engaged since they were 6, but it’s been long delayed and it’s been the talk of high society, especially with Cárcel being the empire’s most notorious playboy. Inés, however, seems to be perfectly content with this arrangement, in fact, she encourages him to do whatever he wants even after the wedding so long as they maintain order among the nobility. what the gossip and Cárcel don’t know is that Inés has plans for her marriage of obligation, and they have nothing to do with love. when Cárcel suddenly declares he is ready to reform his rakish ways, marry immediately, and prove to Inés that he is worthy of her true affection, she must to keep her wits about her or risk losing everything she’s spent lifetimes of heartache and desperation to obtain.
i loved this so much!! i was a bit confused at the beginning but as we went along, things started to click into place and i was hooked!! this ended up a lot heavier than i expected but it is SO interesting, especially when we got a certain backstory👀 i love both Inés and Cárcel’s characters, and i cannot wait to see how their development goes, as well as how their relationship grows!!
the art was also so beautiful and i love the lil funny moments drawn in chibi!! i’m so excited for volume 2😭
thank you so much to inklore and del rey for the copy!!
