The Magi Accounts #5

Only Unity Will Spare Us

Rate this book
I made a promise to the enemy… and I intended to keep it.

Thank the goddess I have my pride and my wonderful, amazing mate—whose patience matches no other—because the world is in chaos, and Cosmo is my rock, my safe place inside the storm. If only I could find the time between witches, work, politics, and family to prove it to him.

The Shifter and Magi Equality Act is in full effect, supposedly making us equals, but the people themselves—the humans—are still treating us as lesser. Every time I turn around, we’re running into trouble between humans and non-humans.

To make matters worse, witches are everywhere in Fairview City, and the Red Cloth is encouraging humans to join their forces and challenge the equality my people have fought so hard to get.

And now, Anderson is back. Back and gunning for me.

But he doesn’t realize I’m gunning for him, too.

Only Unity Will Spare Us is the fifth and FINAL book in the MM urban fantasy series, The Magi Accounts. It’s recommended to read the series in order because the romance and plot progress throughout the series.

*Intended for adults only. Please read the trigger warnings at the beginning of this novel.

Michele is married to an awesome guy that puts up with her and all the burnt dinners she makes—hey, sometimes characters are a bit distracting, and who doesn’t plot when they’re supposed to be cooking? They live together in Baltimore, Maryland with two little monsters, a three-legged princess, a four-legged goofball, and a cutie with giant ears (aka their two kids, their two cats, and their dog). She hopes to rescue another cat soon, and if her hubby wouldn’t kill her, she’d get more than one… and maybe a few more dogs as well.

She loves creating worlds filled with lots of love, chosen family, and of course, magic, but she also likes making the characters fight for that happy ending. She hopes to one day write all the stories in her head—even if there are too many to count!

I thought the excitement of a whole revolution couldn't be topped, yet here we are. Not only were the stakes as high (or maybe even higher) than in the past books, but we also got a conclusion that was so good and satisfying I am almost ok with the series being over now.
I'll miss it a lot, maybe even reread it in the future. But I can't explain just how much I adore Cosmo and Madeo, and all of the other couples in the series.

3.5/5 I found myself a little torn during this book. On the one hand, this is the conclusion of 11 novels and novellas-worth of drama and some seismic shifts in rights and opinions about magi and shifters. So it makes sense that everything is amped up and the stakes are high. But I actually hit a point where it was so horrific that I was having trouble switching to the light moments. I couldn’t have handled unrelenting horror, but the changes gave me a bit of whiplash.

Unlike previous books where there was absolutely horrific violence but it was happening mostly in the past or in hiding or officially sanctioned (but still generally behind closed doors), in this book, it was mass murder on a huge and repeating scale that I just genuinely felt people didn’t seem to care enough about. Adults, children, humans, shifters, magi, there were hundreds of deaths (thousands?), and somehow this seemed to be only a rallying point for the bad guys.

With a country theoretically on alert knowing that they (and their children) could be next when they’re out on an innocent errand, it astonished me that it seemed like no one ever saw anything, there was no inter-agency cooperation, nobody reported neighbours acting weird or saw whole communities get gassed or huge shipping containers being moved into the Great Divide…. I felt like the whole US should have been up in arms about this, and they just … didn’t seem to be. (Or at least we didn’t see it, and it had no plot impact.) And the TRD got absolutely nowhere and just had to constantly wait for the Red Cloth to attack. I guess I felt very powerless and kind of overloaded, and that affected the impact of the conclusion for me.

It *did* feel like a very hard-won victory, and I was happy to have a resolution with the Red Cloth. I really enjoyed Logan’s invention, as that was something I’d been hoping for since book 1. (Before we met the Red Cloth, that’s actually where I thought we were going plot-wise.) It was lovely to see Mads and Cos get to go through their tying ceremony after so long. The Ono-Nai pack is pretty darn awesome, and watching them grow and imagining them having much safer, happier lives from here on out is absolutely what I want for them!

I received an ARC from GRR. This is my honest review.

At best, anticlimactic. I loved this series; Jude and Madeo's journey is heartbreaking and beautiful. The world that the author created is fascinating with whole new realms and creatures. The shifter and magi characters have so much love and humanity. Unfortunately, this book felt like the author rushed to complete this series in the quickest way possible and everything was okay in the end because all of the children. A very disappointing end to one of my favorite series of all time.

I became a fan of Michele Notaro's paranormal romance/urban fantasy after reading the first book in the Ellwood Chronicles series and it has just gotten better and better. The Magi accounts has been full of action, drama, relationship drama and family fun but here I found that I really felt the heart of Mads come out. He shows just how deeply he feels for those who have become his family and pride, just how much a part of his heart and soul Cosmo is, and when it comes to Jude, there is no man he would rather have as his ride or die, his partner in crime at home and work, and the person who makes his magic shine.
This finale is a fitting tribute to the journey that everyone involved has been on but Mads, Jude and Cosmo especially. Mads and Cosmo's relationship came from nothing, only really moving forward in the beginning because of how determined Cosmo was but not pushing as that just takes everything ten steps back where Mads is concerned. Here we get to read the culmination of their relationship, their bond becoming stronger and their family even bigger. The dyads may have their own mates now but Mads' and Jude's connection remains true.
The storyline that has been developing across the series involving the witch terrorist group, The Red Cloth, finally reaches it's climax as they show their true powers and Mads works to keep the promise he made to Bobby Anderson the last time they saw each other. This book isn't without it's upsetting scenes (please read the trigger warnings given by the author) as memories are shared from Mads and Jude's past as well as a several pretty intense battle scenes that affect both the characters in the book and the reader.
Michele's writing is absorbing from the very start, drawing you into the world she has created and grabbing you with the fabulously entertaining characters and engaging scenes throughout the book. I'm just hoping it's not the last we hear from this group as I've come to love every one of them but Mads's snarky attitude is the one to miss the most. This is a series to be read in order as there is a series plot arc and relationship developments throughout.
I received an ARC and am happily giving a review.

Getting to listen to this series has been a complete joy and Zachary's portrayal of the characters along with the mix of lighthearted and sweet along with ones filled with pain and tension is just amazing. I'm very willingly pulled along for the ride and just want to take it in in one go. Cannot recommend enough!

Fantastic Feline Finale

Only Unity Will Spare Us
Magi Accounts Book #5
Michele Notaro

In this fifth and final book, we see how the actions and changes in the series so far have left a scarred but hopefully better world starting to heal and the Ono Nai pride together again.
The fourth book in the series saw some major changes taking place in the fight for equal rights for non human species - magi and shifters.
The Shifter and Magi Equality Act is now in place, actions taken with the Cloaked Freeway have been absolved and negotiating with the NHSO has begun.
Unfortunately, whilst the laws have changed to make everyone equal, magi are still being treated as lesser and hate crimes are rife.
There's also the threat of the Red Cloth witches, the Supreme Rose, and... Anderson ... who tortured Mads and Jude for years, bullied them at work, and made their lives at TRD hell.
He is back and out for Mad's blood. But Mads has a powerful mate, family and allies.
And a promise he has to keep.
This book is packed with action, danger, laughter, romance, tears and kisses.
So much happens in this one, that it's difficult to talk about so I'll summise by saying, Mads, Jude, Cos and the whole pride face lots of challenges throughout the book, but working as a team is the way through it. Amidst the struggles and PTSD suffered by a few people in this book, we have the bright moments amidst the dark, including glitter bombs, Teo being adorable and cute, burgeoning relationships, more cute kids, strengthened bonds and a final happy ending.
We even get an epilogue nine years later which is sweet and wonderful. I love that Mads is still prickly on the surface but secretly loves the hugs and cuddles he gets from the pride.
The whole thing is emotional, adorable and very fulfilling as a finale.

First of all – I loved the book as much as I loved every other in this series. It is truly a roller coaster ride of emotions. You know how there are inquiries out there by readers and authors alike asking you in which universe they would like to live if they had the chance to jump into a book. Well, I can tell you now, this would not be the world. Man is it brutal and even more unequal and bigoted than our reality. Reading books is my escape from reality, my haven so to speak. Michele Notaro did a good job balancing the worst with some light hearted moments, cuddles and family. If it were any less so I wouldn't be able to read it.

Only Unity Will Spare Us starts off mellow and grows in intensity until you reach the moment where you sit in the parking lot of your supermarket waiting for your eyes to not look so puffy so the cashier won't look at you funny. I loved it all, I loved every sweet, precious moment between Madeo and Cosmo and every interaction within the pride. I loved how much Logan has grown into his own and how confident sweet Wren got. Most beautiful were these intimate moments that felt like a glimpse into a life normally hidden from view.
""I don't want to take a shower. I don't have enough energy. I just want to sleep."
"I know, baby, but you're covered in a lot of digusting things, and I know you. You'll wake up in a few hours and be horrified and make us shower and change our sheets. And I want to just sleep, straight through the night, with you in my arms. I'm not changing the sheets at three in the morning again."
I closed my eyes and let my forehead fall to Cosmo's chest with a sigh. He was right. I would totally do that and had obviously done it to him in the past.

These scenes might not seem that important or extraordinary to many but I think they are such a treat. They give you a real feel for their dynamic for their personality and character.

Even though living in Madeo's reality and head must be difficult and I truly don't know how he made it to adulthood with his sanity intact – probably because Jude and him had each other, otherwise I'm not sure either would be sane TBH – I really enjoy his inner monologue. He is such a sarcastic person with a big big heart he whose presence he even denies to himself that he has.

Even after all this time, he was still afraid of riding in a helicopter. Despite myself, a wave of fondness for him ran through me, and I couldn't help but send that fondness through our bond so he'd feel it. Maybe I could combat his fear with love.
Geez, thank the goddess no one else could hear that sappiness in my head. I'd never live it down. Blech.

So all that being said I have to agree with some reviews that said that they felt that the series felt unfinished and they were a bit disappointed at the ending. I wouldn't go so far to say I was disappointed, but there are quite some unanswered questions and I felt as though there were some personal issues not concluded. At the very beginning of the series, when Madeo and Cosmo were first intimate with one another Madeo said that because of the rape he endured growing up and abuse he wasn't ready for anything putting him in a vulnerable position. Quite understandable and sad. I would have thought at the very end of the book that this would also be a last character development reaching its conclusion. Not because of the sex per se but I would think that this would be about intimacy, last barriers falling between Cosmo and Madeo, mental health, ridding himself from the past etc. Don't get me wrong, I don't want to minimize what Cosmo and Madeo have to only the physical and there were a lot of beautiful moments, touching and more intimate because of the emotions felt, like the one I mentioned above. But Anderson and what he did to both Jude and Madeo was such a big part of this whole series and in my mind this was the final hold he had on Madeo. A perfect moment would have been .

Maybe I can't remember and someone can educate me but other questions I still have also concern the world itself. Are people coming back to the US after things seem to get better? What caused the initial tear? Were there ever any consequences for how the Magi were treated? How was it possible for so many people to disappear and be slaughtered without anyone knowing? People turned up dead left, right and center in this book. I cannot imagine this not causing any kind of uproar. I also cannot imagine people knowingly joining this cult or leaving/turning whistleblower after hearing in the news how they . Did Madeo and Jude ever find any other relatives? I would think that people would try and find their offspring or siblings now that they were able to. Wasn't Madeo looking into that in one of the last books and this is how he initially found Jude's sibling? How is it that the same persons were kept in charge of the TRD and the magi after it became known how they treated the Magi to begin with. Madeo even said himself that the one above Director Dipshit was the one overseeing or knowing about the Magi compounds. How is it possible for a person like that to still be in charge? These are just from the top of my head questions after just finishing the book. Does anyone know the answer to any of them and can tell me what passage I should reread?

In the end the series is an incredible ride and I'm very glad I read it and will reread it in the future for sure.

I absolutly loved this series and was so glad to get my hands on this book. Unfortunately the last two books are not as good as the first - although, my expectations were really high level

this one was better than the one before. Nevertheless, there were some parts which were a bit too long and for me the timing was not as good as in the first 3 books.
the ending was a bit over the top .... but somehow it fit

in all, a good - even if not perfect - ending to this series

Oh my goodness! I don’t even know where to start. What an adrenaline and emotional rush! This book had me staying up late night just to read more! It was full of high stakes, heartbreak, heart-melting, and sweet moments. I loved even minute of it. And I thoroughly loved Mads and Cos story! Ugh, I’m going to miss them and the rest of the Pride as well.

All Wrapped Up

I am glad the series is wrapped up, it feels like an end of an era.

Honestly, this would have rated higher for me but it was so unnecessarily wordy, which made it long, that I became extremely frustrated at the climax of the book.

highly emotional, incredibly moving, final story

Rating : 5🌈

There’s always so many thoughts and emotions one has when approaching a finale novel in a beloved series. When that series is a dark urban fantasy about a particularly extremely violent, torturous dystopian world, the range of emotions will be deeply varied as the storylines. Especially here where in a world where a different US is at war. A almost recognizable one we’ve seen before where the humans in charge have used other species (or races) shifters and mages, as weapons and tools, things. Those in charge inhumanly categorizing them as objects to be abused, used and discarded as the humans wanted.

Make no mistake, as gorgeously written and powerfully conceived as The Magi Accounts series is, these books are often equally wrenching and disturbing to read. The compounds the magi are bred and raised in like stock animals, as well as the abusive, torturous, often deadly nature of the treatment they were subjected to there, is harrowing reading. And the subject of more than one trigger warning. The same is said about that of the narrative treatment of shifters, although not necessarily in the gore-ridden way.

Through four books, we’ve found all the members of the now combined Ono-Nai tribe, watched them grow, in some cases learning to deal with the pain and abuse that brought them into the tribe, and for others form mate bonds with each other, until this enlarged family has become a greater whole that means something deeply special to us as readers. It’s not just the mage dyads Madeo aka Mads and Jude. Or the main bonded pair of mage Mads and alpha lion shifter Cosmo Ono-Nai. It’s Jude, and his bond mates. And the rest of the tribe, shifters, mages, humans, even pets. All have made an indelible impression and contribution to the heartfelt rightness that has developed into the Ono-Nai diverse family/tribe. One of the unity of the title and one that Mads and his family is striving for their future.

It’s a truly agonizing epic showdown, one that’s been long awaited between Mads and his tribe and the horrific, terrifying Anderson, the Red Cloak witches, with their plan to destroy all the mages and shifters for a human only universe.

Did I end up sobbing buckets of tears? Yes, yes I did. As I expected to. There’s so much going on in the narrative. From beautiful scenes of family life and laughter, to sheer terror and heartbreak, memories of darkness and pain, blood and death, all that has to come , realistically in this world, before even large battles can be won.

Is everything solved at the end? No. But the majority of the problems are resolved in a manner that leaves the characters and readers in a better place . One that makes sense and leaves us with a sense of completion and satisfaction .

Only Unity Will Spare Us: The Magi Accounts Book 5 by Michele Notaro is a fantastic finale and a perfect way to end a magnificent dark urban fantasy.

I highly recommend this series. Read it in the order it’s written and with regard for its trigger warnings.

Just a side note. I wished for more for the Taragorians. Logan had it right. That the rift or a magical aspect of it seemed sentient was fascinating. I wish for more of this place please.

4.5 ⭐

Only Unity Will Spare Us is the fifth and final book in the Magi Accounts series. This series should absolutely be read in order including the novellas (Magi Accounts Companion Stories), and be sure not to skip over the trigger warnings — trust me, they're there for a reason.

Saying goodbye to the Ono-Nai pride is bittersweet with a mix of nostalgia and anticipation. Throughout the series, the Ono-Nai pride has been through some serious emotional rollercoasters. But between all the heavy and emotional times, Ono-Nai’s have built a tight-knit family filled with comfort, laughter, love and friendship that is at the heart of this series.

In this last part of their story, the Ono-Nai’s continue their fight for equality and peace for everyone. But the Red Cloth and Anderson are back to stir up trouble which threatens to push them all into yet another harrowing conflict. As the story unfolds, the gravity of the stakes becomes palpable, with each twist revealing the depths of Red Cloth's depravity.
The conflict escalates to an even more personal level, culminating in a heart-stopping showdown that leaves the Ono-Nai's fighting for survival on their own turf.

Amidst all the tension and danger, there are also plenty of heartwarming scenes, moments of respite and camaraderie, that remind us why we fell in love with these characters in the first place. There are many sweet and quiet moments like playing games, movie nights and just family togetherness portraying the unwavering spirit of unity and resilience within the pride.

While the series is packed with action and suspense, it also offers poignant moments of character development and introspection. We witnessed Madeo's growth and development as he learns to trust, love, and embrace vulnerability — a testament to the depth and nuance of character development woven into the series that was a real pleasure to read.

In crafting this final book, Notaro demonstrates a masterful command of pacing, ensuring a sense of urgency without sacrificing depth or emotional resonance. While the final chapters serve as a gratifying conclusion, offering readers a glimpse into the future where the Ono-Nai pride is thriving.

Only Unity Will Spare Us is a thrilling conclusion packed with action, heart, and more than a few tears, but it’s also a testament to the indomitable human spirit. Which I find is a fitting end to a series that captivates with its rich tapestry of emotion and adventure.

I received a copy of this book from Gay Romance Reviews, and this is my unbiased review.

A Purrfect Ending to an Amazing Series! Excellent Story & Narration
🎧
Only Unity Will Spare Us
The Magi Accounts, Book 5
By: Michele Notaro
Narrated by: Zachary Zaba

I absolutely love this fascinating world Michele Notaro created for her amazing “Magi Accounts” series, an urban fantasy with incredible world building, character growth and development, magical storylines that includes equally fascinating characters, including shifters, witches, mage, and other paranormal beings and monsters. And what makes this series so amazing are the characters, characters I adored, Cosmo, a lion shifter and Madeo “Mads” a Magi and his sidekick and connected dyad, Jude, as well as various other secondary/support characters and members of the Ono-Nai pride, a found family of shifters and magi. This is the last book of the series and is an action-packed story with ups-and-downs, and thrilling and suspenseful moments that take you to the edge of your seat. An ending that is worthy of these amazing characters and one that will stay with me for a very long time. It was not always easy for them, but I loved how far they have come, in society and amongst the pride. There is never a dull moment in this cleverly plotted story, and it has plenty of drama, angst, heartfelt emotions, and a wonderful romance. Michele Notaro, thank you for this amazing story and wild ride.

🎧📚🎧 Zachary Zaba did a fantastic job voicing the characters, bringing them to life and humanizing them. His portrayal of the character was spot on and I loved how he took each role and made it his own, sounding believable and just as I imagined the characters to sound. He set the perfect tone for the story, captured all the characters’ emotions and had you feeling them all. Zaba is an entertaining storyteller and a pleasure to listen to. Thanks for another fabulous listen.

A Hell of an Ending (an audio review)

Mads and Cosmo are one of my favorite couples – probably because of their ability to grow their found family by leaps and bounds every time I hear from them. I missed the last book, so a couple of the names and backstories of characters were unfamiliar to me. No worries, I got caught up quickly and was propelled into their battle between good and evil. Mads the magi and Cosmo the shifter make a formidable team. Together battling the terragorians who come through the veil tears from another place. They’ve got everything together.

Until Mads’ nemesis comes calling. This time, it’s going to take all of Mads’ strength – relying on his dyad Jude and his mate Cosmo to fight off Anderson and the Red Cloth witches.

This is again a violent book and I worried all my favorite characters would survive. There’s also a flashback scene from Mads’ time in the academy and that was pretty brutal to listen to. Overall, though, this was a great listen and a great story.

I’ll be sad to see everyone move on with their lives. The epilogue was super awesome and I smiled I way through it. Who knew how my favorite couple would settle into domesticity so easily?

Zachary Zaba is one of my favorite narrators and he did a great job on this audio. The narrator changed midway through the series, but I didn’t miss a beat. Both were talented and competent and I was happy to see Zachary end out the series. I do plan to go back and snag the audio I missed, but even if you haven’t been around for every one, you’ll be fine enjoying this one. Definitely one not to miss.

Good grief! I had to take a few days between reading this book and sitting down to write my review. Yes, it's one of those…the end of a much loved series. Only Unity Will Spare Us is the fifth and final full-length book in the Magi Accounts series (absolutely to be read in order); a series that has put everyone through the emotional wringer with the amazing Ono-Nai pride surviving and dealing with dark (sometimes harrowing) events - please check the trigger warnings - but there's balance in the deep comfort you feel when Mads, Cos and the gang take solace from their growing family, and joy from the fantastic relationships - both romantic and fraternal. There's more of the same here!

In this book there is already protection under the Shifter and Magi Equality Act for the pride and their community after the events of the previous instalment, but positive change takes time…and not everyone is on board! The Red Cloth hate campaign Is really ramping up and is intrinsically linked to Mads’ promise to end the chief tormentor from his youth. Like I said, it's far from easy reading but it makes that hard fought HEA all the sweeter. As for the Taragorians, there's a satisfactory development for me thanks to some bravery and intelligence from Logan. As for that HEA, the last few chapters read like an extended epilogue and I love it. It's an opportunity to see the Ono-Nai pride not just surviving but thriving.

So, it's with mixed feelings that one of the best urban fantasy series I've read comes to its conclusion - so happy with the way things turned out; so sad there are no more Magi Accounts books to come. I guess that's what re-reads are for, right? All the stars from me.

An ARC was provided by GRR. This is my honest review.

I very much enjoyed this book and the series as a whole. This story has some very exciting action-packed parts, some very sugary sweet parts, and some really disgusting or bloody parts. There are a couple of chapters the reader can avoid if you can't stand torture and sadism (Anderson is really evil); I have to say this is more easily done if you are reading a print copy than if you are listening to the audiobook. It's important to heed the trigger warnings. These were hard parts for me to get through, as well as a couple of the descriptions of the witches' savagery and bloodthirstiness, but that was on me, not the author. I did feel that the book could have been shorter and some of the extraneous stuff could have been edited out; there were several scenes - both sweet fluffy ones and action ones - that dragged on a bit. There's a part of the final battle that I found stretched my imagination a bit too far, but I decided to suspend disbelief at that point.
However, the characters are marvelous, the world building is very well done, and I like the author's writing style. I was also intrigued by the general premise of the series and the world of the humans, shifters and magi. I loved the interactions within the pride and the idea of a tying ceremony.
I listened to the audiobook and thoroughly enjoyed Zachary Zaba's narration, as usual. He really brought all the characters and the action to life.
I received an audiobook copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I think like most of us, I have been waiting for this book for a while. Mads had been holding onto his promise to Anderson for a looong time, and we were all anxiously anticipating the day he made good on it.

I loved this book. This was everything you could want in a final book in a large continuous series. We had all the action that this series is known for mixed in with sweetness, love, and family. I loved seeing Mads and all the magi grow and learn to trust over the years. He and Cos are perfect together.

I don't want to give too much away, but let's just say I cried, multiple times. In that one scene, if you read it you'll know what I'm talking about I was bawling. Mads and Jude and their relationship and love for each other is just beautiful. I was in tears and begging and cursing the entire time.

There were also happy tears. I don't think I ever cried because of an aquarium before, but here we are. There's just something about the way the Magi react when experiencing common things we all take for granted that breaks me every time.

Finally, shout out to the 9 years later epilogue. That was perfect for a series like this. I would love more, because I don't think I'd ever be ready to leave our guys, but I was also very satisfied with the ending and felt like their story was closed nicely and satisfyingly.

Only Unity Will Spare Us is the fifth and final book of Michele Notaro’s Magi Accounts series. The book begins where the last one ends, but it gives us a recap of where we stopped in the previous book. The expectations were high as we knew ahead of time that the fight with Anderson and the Red Cloth witches would come to a head in this book. I was not disappointed.
The book had lots of action, suspense, romance, and feel-good moments. The characters begin the book with a new hope for a great future, and I think they achieve this. I loved seeing Mads, Jude, and the other magi planning to do some normal things that they had never been able to do as children. I especially loved the happy moments in Cos and Mads’ relationship.
Like many of the previous books, it has some rough times. Mads has to confront his past in nightmares and memories. It made me very emotional to read more about the struggles that he and Jude went through in their past as abused Magi. The team is still fighting throughout the book against magi and shifter prejudice, and they also are fighting the blood witches.
I loved reconnecting with Mads, Jude, Cos, and the entire pride. I love these characters so much, and I am truly going to miss them. It was a great book with a very satisfying ending. Highly recommended.

So the last of the Magi books is here and I wasn't prepared. I wanted this series to go on forever. Mads and Jude started in hell, with only each other to cling to, and found heaven to grow old with. I never thought after 10 books that they would have so much to fill their hearts. In this final book they have to stop the Red Cloth witches. It's down to the wire. They find out some interesting information on who the Supreme Rose is and why Anderson is so important to the Red Cloth witches. One of the Ono Nai clan figures out a way to save the Taragorians instead of killing them and in the process shifters and humans too. The battles keep getting more intense and the Ono Nai are feeling the stress. When they defeat the Red Cloth in a huge battle the clan are home trying to heal and re-group when the next battle is closer to home than they ever thought possible. In this final battle everything is at stake but are the Ono Nai ready for it?

This book has everything that a last book should have and more. I was stress reading and crying and wringing my hands. Somehow Michele came out with a solution that worked. I loved every minute of the book and adored the epilogue. I highly recommend this series and author. Very good story telling, world and character building are top notch and the chemistry between the characters is felt.

I am so very sad that this series has come to a conclusion. There were some parts that were like, no wait, no stop, don't.... There was also something that happened that I was screaming at the author, why did you do that???? I know it had to happen so that something would be figured out & happen, but still it was gut wrenching. Nope, not going to tell you, you will need to read that one yourself. I still would love to "see" the Taragorian world. I've always loved monsters and things from their POV, though I don't think these monsters have that type of thought process. Anyway, after all these books and seeing the most hateful human ever written, Anderson finally gets what is coming to him, though I would have liked it to have been slow and much more brutal, like maybe slowly pushing him through a tear, feet first. Okay, a little blood thirsty, but after everything that we've seen him put our MC's through since the beginning, it would have been worth it. I loved that we got to see a pretty big time jump to see that our pride is happy, healthy & growing. I will miss these MC's, but I am glad that they are being released in audio so I can revisit them any time I want.

I received a copy of this book from Gay Romance Reviews, and this is my honest opinion.

A great addition to the series

Not a stand-alone. You need to start with book one as the story is a continuation and well worth reading.

Great world-building, and the characters have good backstories. We meet Madeo and Jude, both Magi, who are of the lowest group living in this new world. First, there are Humans, Shifters and then the Magi, the order of society.

Cosmo is the leader of a pride group of cat shifters and the Alpha leader of the task force group, which Madeo and Jude are part of. Cosmo and Madeo, a Shifter and a Magi, are in a relationship and part of Cosmos pride.

This book's complex relationships between the shifters and Magi are wound effortlessly. Such a great read/listen.

Zachary Zaba did an amazing job of the narration. I did, however, have to speed up the narration to 1.20 on audible, but this is usual for me.

"Only Unity Will Spare Us" is the final book in The Magi Accounts series by Michele Notaro. It is a series that has a main core of 5 books and several companion novels and novellas. The core group needs to be read in order as this is an involved and evolving tale that begins with book 1 and doesn't end until book 5. The companion stories are recommended as they deal with other characters and do have a bit of effect of the core books, but they are not 100% necessary.

*** There is a note for Triggers at the beginning that mentions a section of historical child abuse as a memory, that is in italics so it can be skipped. There is nothing to mark this spot in the audiobooks so I will mention that it is almost all Chapter 5 and that it is a chapter that can be skipped is necessary.***

I just finished the audiobook narrated by Zachary Zaba (another amazing narration!) and I am in a bit of a daze. The book is fantastic and wraps up all of the onging issues through out the whole series. It is a hard story. From beginning to end there is a lot of violence, and sadness and some light moments to help carry them. But, finally Mads, Jude and the rest of the Ono Nai Pride can live happy and healthy lives, as equal citizens of the US, and all the rights they were denied before.

Fifth in series (The Magi Accounts), this is the finale to the series and must be read in order. Paranormal urban fantasy. Established couple. Hurt/comfort. Found family. Mostly single POV. Heed content warnings.

Madeo and Cosmo are still fighting for their freedom, for their family/pride, and for their love. This story starts with a beginning of equality for magi and shifters with humans, but Mads and Cos are still battling alien Taragorian breaches as well as the deadly Red Cloth witches. Cos and Mads remain fully committed to each other and their family, trying to keep everyone safe while finding time to share special moments together.

This book finalizes the overarching story arcs, with some action as well as some romantic scenes (where Mads says “blech” but I thoroughly enjoyed them). Not as tense as some of the other books in the series as this is obviously the final book so I knew many things would be resolved, there was still so much danger hovering and plenty of heartwrenching developments. Sad to see this series end, but I really enjoyed the peek into the future for the HEA for Cos and Mads and their family. 4.5 rounded up

Everyone has to work together to get a happy ending

Sadly this book marks the end of Michele Notaro’s Magi Accounts series but she wraps things up in grand style. All the usual characters appear as well as some not so nice witches that serve as the main enemy now that the rights for shifters and magi have been put into effect. Of course there are still the rifts and the Taragorians and things change there too. A marvelous ending to a marvelous series. If I had any problem with this book it would be that I would have liked some more interactions between the characters and regular humans that would illustrate the social problems that are still there or humans who like magi and shifters. Honestly though it’s a small quibble and there are so many characters already that more would be maybe be too much. I must say again that the characters that Ms. Notaro imagines are so well defined in her writing that I have very little problem keeping them straight even through reading books so long apart. This may not seem too important but I just read a book where I was totally lost about a third of the way through.
Bravo Ms. Notaro a most excellent piece of art.

Wow, what a spectacular, emotional, gut-wrenching end to a fabulous series. I’m going to miss Mads, Cos, and the rest of the Ono-Nai Pride, but the author has left them all in a good place, although I was seriously worried about who would make it through to the end of the series.

I love Mads and Cos. Their relationship is one of the highlights of this book, and series. I love how far Mads has come since the beginning, and how their bond factors into how this all plays out. Cos is such a sweetheart, and so protective.

I love Mads and Jude’s relationship and bond. I love how Jude finally gets recognition in this story. All the characters have come so far, but their victories are very hard won. Harriet still totally rocks.

And Anderson… just when I hoped he wouldn’t get any worse, he totally did!

The tension builds to a new high in this story. I had to keep reading to make sure they all get their HEA. I was the edge of my seat!

This series has been a very satisfying read from start to finish, with the novels, and side novellas. I loved the extended epilogue.

High recommended.

Madeo and Cosmo are back along with the rest of the pride to complete The Magi Accounts. The series was amazing and this final book is just incredible. This story will have smiling and it will have you crying. This pride has come so far and they deserve their happiness. Members of the pride have grown and are beginning to realize their potential. Unfortunately, nothing comes easy and Mads, Cos and the whole pride will experience tragedy after tragedy as they fight to earn that happiness.

Anderson, the traitor and torturer, is back and he is coming for Mads but Mads made a promise and that promise is now due. This entire group are more than willing to put everything on the line to help Mads keep his promise and put an end to Anderson as well as the Red Cloth. That fight will have you on the edge of your seat as you turn each page frantically saying no that cannot be. Do not miss this exciting conclusion, but you do need to start at the beginning so everything makes sense.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.

6/10

This series had me by the throat for a long time, and I admit I 'm a bit sad to see it end. But God, it had to end. By the middle of the series, the books felt so drawn out or repetitive that, while I was happy to spend time with all of our different couples, the overarching plot suffered.

This final installment was no different. There as a lot of action and tension, with our characters rushing to a new potential conflict every 2 chapters, but the villains movements felt aimless and the unmasking of their leader was very anticlimactic. The plot never came together; the villains had no plan, no structure as an organization, and seemed to vanish into thin air as soon as the final battle was determined.
And to make things even more unbelievable and cartoony the author took back anything too harrowing that supposedly happened to our beloved MCs in that battle.

Yeah, it was about time this series ended. Thanks for the ride.
