Since her freshman year of college, Asha Montgomery has been trying to turn over a new leaf and mend her selfish ways. After a heartbreaking situation, she finds herself in London with a promising new career and a new outlook on life. The only thing that’s missing is her soulmate—a man to share it all with.
When her job sends her on a three-week project in California, she haphazardly runs into her ex—the man that, no matter how much time has passed, she just can’t seem to get out of her system. But when she finds out that he’s moved on to a new relationship, will she fight for his heart or finally find the strength to let what the two of them once had go?
Born in Baltimore, Maryland, where she grew up on the outskirts of the city, Johnni Sherri has always been a true lover of the arts. As a natural born introvert, reading, writing and drawing had quickly become her favorite pass times. After graduating from East Carolina University with her bachelor’s degree, she remained in North Carolina where she currently resides with her husband and three beautiful children. And although today, she works in corporate America, she still continues to make time for one of her greatest passions, writing.
After secretly writing many short stories over the years, in 2016 Johnni Sherri began penning her first novel just for amusement. On a whim, she entered a short story contest in 2017 and won her first publishing contract. With this opportunity she was able to release her very first five star series titled, Protect My Sister’s Heart, which is set to be re-released in 2018. With her writing, she strives to detail the complex realities of young urban love in a way her readers can relate to. Her goal is always to paint a picture with every page, leaving booklovers yearning for more. However, fully understanding that Urban Fiction and African American Romance is not for everyone, she feels that if she can touch just one heart or mind with her work, than the late night typing is well worth it.

Meeting Quincy in college was unknowingly one of the best things that could have happened to Asha in college. As a superficial gold digger that was hell bent on being a ballers wife, she had life and the game fkd up. Quincy was the one to come in and put things into perspective. The chipped tooth, rusty Honda driving fast food worker didn’t have much but what he had to give, he gave with his entire heart.
Years later these two aren’t together and finger pointing is easy on both sides. They were playing adult games and bit off more than they could chew and as a result don’t last as long as they could have. Now two completely different people thriving in their careers, their paths cross again dredging up old wounds that aren’t as healed as they thought.
Asha frustrated me to no end in this book. Self sabotage is a mf and Asha was the queen of self sabotage. I loved how patient Quincy was with her and in my opinion she never deserved him, not even back in college.
The growth and character development was chefs kiss and I enjoyed the cameo appearances from some of my favs. This was a really good series / spin off and I’m hoping that Josh and Frankie are somehow talking to Johnni and that their story is in our future! 🙏🏽
Whew people, Asha wore me out with her insecurities about her worth. She needed to strut her goodness instead of cowering down. At first, I wasn't sure how I felt about Quincy. But as you get into the story, you will better understand his lack of faith in Asha. She did this track star running anytime she felt unwanted. Quincy was in a relationship with Zohanna who was unlikable from the start. I just had a feeling she was up to no good. You'll see what I mean. Don't trust Zo... The complexity in the story was not overdrawn or stocked with filler pages, as the story had many facets to unravels in each plot. Asha worked my nerves, but overall, this was an enjoyable read. 4.75 stars.
As a loyal fan of the Heartbreak U series, I was waiting for this release, and it did not disappoint. Asha’s character was always a mystery; she was not “close” to the other girls per se and often came off as entitled and judgmental. However, this story provided clarity and more in-depth insight into the world of Asha. Now 24 years old, she is working in the fashion industry and living abroad. Moreover, Quincy is the definition of a “glow-up”. He went from boxing at a local gym, working to care for his siblings, and going to school, and now he is a major boxer and racking in millions. In addition, he is the best father to his son. We love to see it!
Quincy and Asha’s previous relationship ended on bad terms. I felt that Johnni did a great job demonstrating how it happened and showing the redemption on page. Communication was a major factor that both lacked in the past. Asha didn’t feel appreciated by Quincy. Sadly, her solution was to run instead of facing the problem. However, their constant run-ins and close proximity forced them to have an overdue discussion, or else the cycle would have continued. In a sense, this is a rekindled romance story.
I enjoyed every minute and loved that the updates on the other characters. The character development was superb. There was sexual tension, drama, intense family dynamics, and yes, the spice was spicy. There was also a good amount of comedic relief. I am waiting for the Zohanna slander because she irked my soul! Harvey was so much fun to read about because he was a good friend to Asha, but he also did not pacify her. The ending was the sweetest; I may or may not have teared up. Seeking Asha was worth the wait!! Wonder, if Paris or Frankie will have a story next?!
I couldn't wait to read this book, and it was worth the wait! I enjoyed getting a more in-depth look into Asha's life, even when she irked me a little. The chemistry between her and Quincy could be felt no matter who they were around. There were a couple of tear jerking moments, but also some good laughs. I loved her relationship with Harvey and Paris. Little Mason was so cute, and I loved the bond Asha had with him. I'm hoping Frankie's story is next.
I honestly wasn't expecting a story from Asha and Quincy but I am SO GLAD they showed up to tell their story. This was a lot of back and forth, mostly on Asha's part, she was my least favorite roommate for HU, but Quincy was absolutely perfect for her and helped to grow her up. The separation did the rest. I'm so glad we got to catch up with the rest of the crew and everyone is doing well...although Hope and Neeko(?) Are still up in the air. Also, reading Malachi call Paris, Ms. Paris...whew...all I could hear was Iikane and I so hope this goes to audio.
I’m not gonna lie, this book had everything I don’t enjoy in a book. Second chance, cheating, a lot of flashbacks, miscommunication. But with all that being said, it was still a good story and I enjoyed reading it. Although Asha was trying to turn a new leaf, I commend that she admitted who she was and didn’t feel bad about it. Harvey was my fave. I hate that a baby is what made Asha act right, I wish she would’ve done it on her own. This book was well written and moderately paced.
I do wish in the beginning that the book said we should read Heartbreak U first. It definitely felt like I was missing something.
It’s been a long time since Heartbreak U. I had to read my detailed reviews from the series to recapture how I felt about Miss Asha. I remembered her growing on me in the finale. I love that she had time to grow independently. People were very judgmental about her being selfish. Ironically, that is part of why she deserved to be selfish. No one put her first! I felt that and her actions reflected that. The love between Asha and Quincy was more than apparent. The question was always would it be enough? Excellent read💜
I was lucky enough to purchase the paperback at the Love In Books event and i’m so glad to see that Johnni has continued on with the Heartbreak U crew. You get bits of Paris and Malachi, Meeko and Hope, and Franki in this one!
I really enjoyed Asha & Quincy’s love story. Now, you do have to give a lot of grace to Asha, keep in mind, she’s only 24 and got some issues with her! But can i just say going from the main to the sneaky link is crazy! That’s the only part I didn’t really care for, butttt somehow, it worked??? Like it was very on brand for Asha’s character development. Everyone read her right, she was a selfish & self-centered. Yes, she has grown, but def needed some more growing to do (love the part where Quincy pointed out how patient he had been with Asha! pg 274) Cause babyyy, Quincy was a good man, but not without flaws either of course. He def could have handled things a lot better too. As for Zohanna, she was all types of crazy and really couldn’t bow out gracefully smh. Mason was such a joy in this book and really was the glue that brung everything together. Overall, I enjoyed this book and missed the characters. Can’t wait to see what Johnni has up next!
The way Asha was running reminded me of a star running back in the NFL! But in order to have success at it, you need to practice patience. Quincy was the epitome of patience quite a few times! And while they both needed to be held accountable for their actions, getting to the point where they were on the same page tested everyone involved, including me as the reader! This was a beautiful story that I'd been anticipating and practicing patience for myself! Being able to revisit with the Heartbreak U characters I've come to absolutely love was also a plus! And until we get to hear from Franki and Miss Paris, I'll be practicing it some more! Glad you were finally able to get back to your creative lane Johnni Sherri, but in the meantime being able to put your family first was as invaluable as any success you may have forgone I'm sure! Until next time! You were truly missed!
Asha and Quincy were high school sweethearts but when an unexpected baby comes into the miix fir Quincy, Asha couldn't deal with it at such a young age so she ran! 3 years later she's in LA and is reunited with Quincy but he's in a relationship with the model Zohanna who's she's assisting in designing for a Vogue photo shoot! Needless to say the feelings are still there and the two of them realize they still love one another! This was a wild ride but in the end the couple realize they were meant to be! Zohanna was crazy and a liar so she ended up losing out but truthfully Quincy was always destined to be with Asha anyway! I loved them together and they got it together in the end!
Johnni Sherri knows she can tell a story. If you read Heartbreak U and Heartbreak Finale you are familiar with Asha. I loved the growth we see in Asha.. She was dealing with alot of insecurities from her past and we saw the growth in this book even though they were coming back to slap her in the behind . Her friend Harvey had me cackling everytime he opened his mouth and Quincy’s family to. I loved seeing the crew I missed Hope Paris and Frankie! I love the friendship dynamics between the four girls. And Mason stole my heart, believe kids they know the vibes he was not feeling Zo Zo! Another ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. I really need to read more from this author!
I was so happy to get Asha’s story. It was nice to see a more mature version of her. She was still spoiled, but a lot better than she was in college. I love the bond between Asha and Quincy. They balance each other so well. As much as Asha kept fighting their union, it was inevitable for them to be together. They really are soulmates. I enjoyed catching up with the other ladies from her crew. Their evolution has been so dope. I feel like I’ve watched them all blossom into amazing women. While I was happy for the sweet love story, there was plenty of drama to keep it interesting. I love that this series is always raw and real.
From Heartbreak U to now Asha was the least likeable character for me I dislike mean girls, so I was a bit hesitant on reading about her. To see her transform made me proud now don’t get me wrong she had her moments that made me side eye her a lot. I remember Asha & Quincy break up it wasn’t pretty to see them reunite made my happy because Zo wasn’t it at all. Let’s talk about Mason his son he stole the show with his adorable self. I’m appreciative she answered all questions. Good book..But now I want to know who’s next Franki of Miss Paris and when?!
Okay, this was a great second chance romance story but Asha did a good job of really fxcking up my day. 😂 at one point I just said “give him to me. I’ll take him off your hands”. My goodness she was insufferable. Please do not read this book until you’ve read the heartbreak u series! It can definitely pass as a standalone. However, reading the series will give you a better understanding of the characters and will make this book 10 times better. I enjoyed Johnni’s writing style but Asha was annoying lol as usual… I hope Franki’s story is next in the series.
I was beyond excited when I saw that this book released. I immediately cancelled my plans for the rest of the day just so I could and was not disappointed. Very much so worth the wait, I didn’t want it to end. Asha’s and Quincy’s story was so endearing even if they both irritated me at times; it was amazing to experience this journey with them. Easily one of my favorites, if not favorite, reads of the year.
I am in awe of Asha’s story. I have been waiting on this book for a while and I was not disappointed. There were a couple of moments in the book that had me teary eyed because the scenes were so touching but I laughed so hard thanks to Harvey, Mase and Quick’s siblings. This story had it all and I can’t wait on the next sister book. This is definitely one of my favorite fall reads.
Loved catching up with Asha though she plucked my nerves at times, but I chalked it up to her childhood. However, her character did develop. Harvey is definitely a ki 😂😂. Would love to know more about him…possibly? Zo was cappin’ throughout the whole book. I’m glad that Quincy’s mom got herself together and he got the family he so rightfully deserved. Overall very good read, anticipating what’s next from Ms. Sherri.
Asha.. she is me.. I am her. So many things in this story that I can relate to. Love.. Meehhh.. I’ve given up on it. I’m thankful that Johnni has the creative brain to let me live in a fantasy for a few hours because it will never be a reality. The first chapter I felt every emotion Asha did so I knew this was going to be a wild ride. Loved it can’t wait to see what’s in store next
I wasn’t sure what to expect from this book, but Johnni Sherri blessed us with a well written book that flowed well. Asha came a long way from the person that she was in Heartbreak U and I was glad to see her and Quincey get back together and actually showcase the love that they had for each other. Zohanna really irked my last nerve and I’m glad that Quincey didn’t get tied down with her.
Highly recommend reading the Hearbreak U series before reading this book. Cuz babbbyyy the growth of Asha was definitely needed! I couldn’t stand this character through all 4 books!!!😂. Shoot she was working my nerves in this book too! I’m happy she finally got it together. Quincy was nothing to play with! And the laughs I got from momma Toya and Harvey was definitely a plus!
I’m not going to lie… the first 2 Heartbreak U books I did not like Asha!!! She was Queen B! Ugh! 😣 But this book made me look at her differently. I get her and she’s a lot more human. Everyone needs friends like this group of girls. I still don’t like Meeko 🙄 he didn’t do anything wrong in this book but Hope is so sweet. I can’t wait to read about Paris because she was one of my favorites. Quick is bae. Asha got her grown up on. I’m proud of her. I loved it all especially Harvey!
We missed you but I love how you didn’t just put out any thing you came back when you were ready. I thank you for your spirit of discernment. I was easily able to remember why I loved these Aggies even though it’s eagle pride amplified, all day lol. Thanks so much because I know you did this for your readers. This story was so well written
So happy to finally read Asha's story. This book was very well written. It has all of the right amount of drama, romance, family issues, and angst. I absolutely loved that the other characters from Heartbreak University were included in this story. I will be reading this again and I recommend it for romance lovers.
After years of soul searching within themselves, 2 people who deserve each other finally wind up together. Trials and tribulations threaten to keep them apart, but in the end, love wins! Absolutely amazing story about Asha and Quincy Johnni. You did your thang once again. I can't wait for the other 2 ladies stories.
I loved Asha’s growth. Thinking about who she was in Heartbreak U compared to this story shows just how far she’s come. But goodness, she really tested my nerves. This author does such an amazing job pulling out every emotion, and this book definitely did that for me. Quincy was so perfect, and I’m beyond excited for the upcoming releases.
I was so ready for this book. And Johnni Sherri, don't disappoint me. Getting an opportunity to peek into little Ms. Asha's world was an eye-opener. When you roll your eyes and things, you know you're enjoying the book.
This book had me feeling all sorts of emotions I loved the journey Asha and Quick went through. The good the bad the tense moments. I’m happy Asha had her HAE. At times I thought Asha would leave Quick alone. But ultimately true love prevailed.
