As the starting goalie for a professional hockey team, I should be oozing confidence and swagger.

Too bad I’m as awkward as they come.

Things go from bad to worse when I want my teammates’ help to set me up. Especially when the team’s general manager is there to witness the train wreck of a date.

Until she proposes dating lessons….mutual dating lessons.

How can the most confident, self-assured woman need my help?

What starts off simple and uncomplicated quickly turns into more. A lot more. She’s supposed to be helping me with other women. But the more time I spend with Bexley, the more I want her.

Only her.

We can’t be together. She’s my general manager. More than a decade older than me. There’s no way this can work.

Except it does.

When everything goes sideways, will the two of us find a way to make it work?

I can only hope the outside world won’t crush the best thing I have going for me.

Best of the Best is the third book in the Colorado Black Diamonds series. It follows Nick, a goalie for the Colorado Black Diamonds and Bexley (Bex), the new-ish GM of the Black Diamonds.

I could not put this book down for the life of me and devoured it in one reading session. I fell in love with the story and main characters the second they were introduced.

Nick is this confident hockey player, but the second he is off the ice, he turns into this shy guy. I'm not going to lie, I loved that he wasn’t another cocky hockey player! However, Nick is shy to a point where it is hard for him to converse with his dates.

Bex is this confident, go-getter of a woman, but because of her position as General Manager to the Black Diamonds, men often find her intimidating and don’t show up for their dates. However, she has a softer side to her, which no one gets to see.

One night, after witnessing one of Nick’s disastrous dates, Bex comes up with an idea to give each other dating lessons. They soon find out they like dating each other more. Can I just say their chemistry together is off the charts!! Nick is such a sweet cinnamon roll, and boy does he transform into a confident man when in bed with Bex. I was not expecting it, but I am here for it!

Emily, I can’t wait to see what the next pet and name will be. Like c’mon a bunny named Oreo!!!! My heart fell out of my chest from the cuteness.

You will love this book if you like:
Forbidden love
Hockey romance
Workplace romance (GM + player)
Age gap (she’s 36, he’s 23)
Dating lessons
”Good Boy” & “Good Girl”

Best of the Best can be read as a standalone or as part of the series. I highly recommend checking out this series if you haven’t already! I promise you will not regret it.

Thank you so much, Emily, for the gifted copy!

I loved this book so, so much! Bex and Nick's story has completely stolen my heart!

❤️ Hockey romance
❤️ Reverse age gap
❤️ General manager x player
❤️ Forbidden
❤️ "Good boy"

Bex is the new-ish GM for the Colorado Black Diamonds and everyone is counting her out. She is the only female GM and she is constantly getting talked down to because of it.

Nick is one of the younger players on the team, but one of the most vital as the goalie for the team.

Both Bex and Nick are not having luck in the dating department, so they are trying to help each other in the dating world. Well that backfires when they both start having feelings for each other. But how could it possibly work with their GM/player status on the team?

I loved these two so much - their relationship felt so authentic from start to finish. I loved how Nick loved giving and receiving praise, while Bex loved when she didn't have to be the intimidating one that everyone ran from. Their dynamic totally worked for them!

Now - I don't want to spoil who the next couple is, but Emily has alluded to it. AND OH EM GEE I AM SQUEALING!!!

When I tell y’all, I was glued to my phone of kindle so I could finish this book because I HAD to know how Nick and Bexley’s story would unfold. This book had and still has a chokehold on me! Emily, you are doing your thang when you write these books cause I am hooked. Our main characters are Nick and Bexley who both work for the Black Diamond hockey team in Colorado. But both of them have spent time thinking and glancing at each other. When both of their dates that they were set up goes wrong then something with them goes right! Book besties, this one is a MUST read for sure 🫶🏾

Note: I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Note 2: This is part of an interconnected series. Though you can read this as a standalone, strongly advise you to read the previous ones as well to learn about the rest of the fellows making cameos in this one.

Triggers: Death from illness, misogyny, (she is the GM to a team), hate for age gap relationships mention of abusive relationships (not from MCs).

Oh my god, I was absolutely thrilled to be able to read for this author and spend time in this world!!

Bex and Nick, my ideal partner and best friend goalsss in life! Despite their decade and some years difference, they were just so perfect. Complementing the shy with the bold, a crazy love for hockey (some of the lingo truly went over my head), and understanding their own struggles in the world -what could make this couple more perfect?

I enjoyed all their moments from shy to friendly to steamy hot and to real couple goals ending - I was all there and invested baby! And absolutely loved their friends and family dropping in, also shoutout to the LGBTQIA+ rep in the male mc's family, so we looking at a progressive read here too folks!

My only issue with this was (not even issue, just a thing) - that I wanted to see there was some conflict, like the way couples sometimes do, or more soft moments - because as much as I loved the passion, I ached to see more soft Bex and Nick and of course shoutout to the adorable bunny as well.

Nick, you made me believe in love again (lets see how long it lasts) but thank you for being so wonderful, sweet charming and so unique (I love some macho confidence stuff but fk something about a shy boy is like kryptonite for me aye), and Bex for managing to make your own place in the world, a true feminist and a woman in a man preaching world!!

Thank you Emily for bringing in these wonderful wonderful characters, and I hope you have the best release ever!

God this novel made my week. The grin be hurting my face for real hehe.

ENJOY PEOPLE AND PICK THIS UP NOW - you'd be missing out if you don't hah.

Until the next fantabulous read!

Written in first person from an alternating dual POV, this can be read as a standalone and ends with a HEA.
I think that reverse age gap is one of the hardest tropes for authors to get right and have it be believable. Despite the main characters in this book having a 13-year age gap, this author made their relationship seem not only believable, but meant to be. Bexley (36) is the GM for the Colorado Black Diamond hockey team. She is strong, powerful, and the only woman in the league to hold the job. That means she is also intimidating to men: especially the ones that lack self-confidence. The result is that her dating life is a little deficient. Nick (23) is the starting goalie for Bex’s team, and he is initially overwhelmed with how amazing he is but is not intimidated by her. He is a little shy, has a huge, soft heart, and genuinely good character. He wants to find the one but keeps having very short dates with the ones that are not meant to be. When he finally goes for it with Bex it is like they both were just waiting for each other. They can be themselves with each other. There is an ease and a tenderness between them that is assisted by mutual admiration and respect. Their chemistry and attraction are there, but almost seems secondary to their feelings even in the steamy scenes on the page. They face some tough times, but I adore that there is no third act break up. They cling together and persevere in the face of adversity. I love that they fight for what they have together. I really wanted these two to get their happy ending that they deserve, and they do.
I am loving this whole series. I really love the concept of the second-generation spin-off of the Denver Mountain Lions series. Getting to know these characters only makes me happy. I seriously can’t wait for the next one.
I am voluntarily leaving this honest review after receiving an advance reader copy of the book.

I want to start with thanking Emily for granting me this ARC for an honest review.

In ‘Best of the Best’ we read about Nick. He is the starting goalie for the Colorado Black Diamonds. And Bex(ley) who is the GM of the Black Diamonds.

When Nick is celebrating the W with his teammates/friends in the bar. He asks them to set him up. Because the way they look at their girlfriends? He wants that too.

They set him up on a date. While waiting for his date, Bexley walks by and asks what he’s doing here. He explains he’s waiting for his date. Eventually his date arrives, but it does not end well. She leaves the table after ten minutes.

Bexley herself is stood up so she walks over to the Nick, who is still in shock over what just happend.

They talk, and eventually agree to give each other with dating lessons. But what happens if one of those lessons didn’t go as planned…?

Tropes:
- Age Gap (she’s older)
- Forbidden Romance
- Dating Lessons
- Workplace Romance
- Pro Hockey
- Good Girl & Good Boy

—————————————————————

Nick is a cinnamon roll / golden retriever kind of MMC. He is very confident on the ice, but off the ice shy and a little insecure. Especially when the dates walk out shortly after arriving for their date. He is very likeable and had stolen my heart. If he didn’t stole it already in Best laid plans, he certainly did now.

Bex is the GM and is nailing that. As the only female GM in the league, she gets lots of shit. But she’s owning her job and I just love her for it. She knows what she wants. Which happens to be her teams goalie 😏

The spice in this book was well written. I love the fact that Nick is this shy ‘boy’ to the outside world. Doesn’t want to be in the limelight. But when he’s with Bex, in the bedroom. All bets are off and he’s this confident man and shows her just how much he wants her.

Only thing I van think of is that sometimes I had trouble with timing. Sometimes I couldn’t follow the timeframes it happend in. But that might have been just me.

Soo, long story short. I absolutely love these two and the book Emily wrote about them. Can’t wait for Noah his story 💖🩵💙

She’s the chaos to my calm.
The outgoing to my shy.
The Strength to my every weakness

Emily Silver's "The Best of the Best," the third instalment in the Colorado Black Diamond series, truly lives up to its name. In my opinion, there should be more reverse age-gap romances, and more authors should take the leap into this enticing genre as Ms Silver has done in latest offering which is an intoxicating, must-read-in-one-sitting novel that will leave you yearning for more. She masterfully crafts a captivating story with Bexley, the newly appointed female GM of the Black Diamonds hockey team, and Nick, the younger, endearing goalie.

The chemistry between Bexley and Nick is electric. Nick might be shy on dates his teammates arrange, but around Bexley, his shyness recites and his confidence grows. Despite knowing the risks, Bexley can't resist the magnetic pull towards Nick. Their mutual struggles with dating lead them to a heartwarming arrangement that allows their simmering feelings to finally surface.

Nick is a character who will steal your heart—his sweetness is matched by an unexpected, sizzling side that adds depth to his charm. Emily Silver beautifully captures their journey from the boardroom to the rink, through sultry nights and playful moments. The dynamic team banter further enriches the story add in a pet named Oreo making "The Best of the Best" a standout in the hockey romance arena.

The Best of the Best IS the best of the best and a brilliant testament to this authors storytelling prowess. This book is a hot, intoxicating romance that every fan should experience.

I absolutely loved Bex and Nick's story!   I couldn't put it down.

Nick has a heart of gold.  He is the quiet guy on the team & when it comes to relationships, he is a little unsure of himself. He's sees what is his sister all happy and in love and he wants that.

Bexley is career focused.  She has just taken over the GM position for the Colorado Black Diamonds and being the first female GM comes with a lot of expectations!  She doesn't have time for relationships.

When Nick and Bexley randomly bump into each other after both having date disasters, they decide to help each other out.

There is an instant connection between them both and when they finally give in their chemistry in undeniable.

I loved catching up with the rest of the team, the banter between Nick and his teammates is always so good.  I also loved seeing Nick with his family, his parent's story is one of my absolute favorites!

If you love a reverse age-gap, forbidden/secret relationship, workplace romance then Best of the Best is a must read!  I am loving this series so much and I don’t want it to end.

Next up from our Colorado Black Diamonds is our quiet and shy goalie, Nick. And the way that he falls for the team's GM, Bex. This story was really sweet, low angst and heavy on the spice!

The tropes in this book are not often done and I really enjoyed the way that Emily handled this. We have an age gap where the woman is older and she is also in the power position as the GM. We also have Nick as the quiet not so confident one whereas Bex is confident and outgoing. Because of this, Nick was having trouble dating, and Bex was scaring off all hers so they decided to help each other. They balanced each other really well and got comfortable with each other and soon enough they realized they didn’t want anyone else. Nick’s eff it moment was 🥵🥵! So good!

Nick & Bex worked together perfectly. They navigated their relationship and the problems that it caused together. Would their relationship cause so much trouble that they are forced to end it?

I love this series and this new book surprised me. This is the first time I've read a book with an age gap where the woman is older. I have to be honest here, I was skeptical at first, but the book is so well written that I completely forgot about the fact that Bexley was older.

What do I love about this book? First of all, it's a hockey romance, so it's basically a great book, then you add a group of great friends who are there for each other, a beautiful chemistry between the main characters and bam you have a good book.

I adored Nick, the way he's so confident on the ice, but really shy when it comes to women, well, one woman in particular. It was so cute to see how him open up to her.

Bexley is a beautiful woman and a strong one at that. It must be hard to take a job after your father, especially in a man's world. She's awesome and I loved her character.

Overall, this book was easy to read, beautiful, sweet and with perfect spicy scenes.

Give me all the boss ladies who are running it all in a man’s world. “Best of the Best” is a flirty, heartfelt and steamy reverse age gap hockey romance that I devoured in one sitting.

Bexley Hart is the GM of the Colorado Black Diamonds and despite having a successful team, she’s under constant scrutiny by just about everyone. Nick Brooks-Young is the goalie for the team and he has an amazing record on the ice, his personal life is not doing so well. When both Bex and Nick happen to be on dates at the same restaurant and both end horribly, they agree to start helping each other with their dating skills. But as they spend time together, there’s a clear chemistry that neither can deny.

I was hooked from the beginning and I couldn’t stop Bex and Nick’s story once I started. I loved the female representation of having a woman in one of the top positions in a male dominated sport. Bex is smart, genuine and confident when it comes to running a hockey team. I was so excited to find out this was Nick’s story because he’s the son of my two favorite guys, Carter and Alex. Nick is a confident goalie who protects the net but has some relatable insecurities off the ice. He’s kind but shy when it comes to dating. I loved that Bex and Nick found that common ground which allowed them to connect that way first. Their chemistry was undeniable, it simmered from the beginning. And when it ignited, whew… it was sizzling hot. Nick is a gentleman in the streets but has a delicious dirty side in the sheets. Even with the 10 year age gap, they connected on an emotional level that had me swooning. I loved the ending and I can’t wait for the next book in the series!

I absolutely adored this book. Nick and Bex were such a cute couple, and the way they complemented one another made this book just that much better. The book was just *chef's kiss* and absolutely perfect. Emily Silver did it again, I was hooked to the story and finished it within a day. It was such an easy and quick read and I never wanted it to end. I loved the side-characters as well and the second generation trope was so wholesome. The book was great, tropes were awesome and the writing style was exactly what I needed right now. This author never disappoints.
I enjoyed every single second reading this and am looking forward to the last book in the series.

Best of the Best is a forbidden, age gap, hockey romance and I absolutely loved Bexley and Nick story. Emily gives another feel good romance full of heart and character you can’t help but fall in love with. These two both have not had the best luck in the dating department and agree to help each other out. I loved watching these two get to know each other and form a friendship. The chemistry and connection between these two was undeniable and they could not fight it and I loved the way they stuck be each other. The story is steamy, swoony and will leave you with a smile.

Bex is the first and only female GM of a NHL team. She is a strong woman in her 30s who has worked hard to take over the family business.
Nick is the starting goalie for the NHL team that Bex runs. He is a 20 something rookie with a heart of gold and oh so talented.
Both Bex and Nick have had a string of unlucky dates. Nicks most recent date takes place at a restaurant/bar that Bex happens to be at. She witnesses the disaster. They talk and decide to help each other out with dating advice. Yes there is an attraction. There but they both know it can’t go anywhere or can it.
Things start to heat up and what a ride from there. Did I I mention the cast or characters that surround them. Yes you will recognize them from other books.
This one is well worth the read. Love Bex and Nicks story. Enjoy

Bex and Nick are the BEST! Best of the Best by Emily Silver was a sweet, swoony, and steamy age-gap hockey romance that I devoured in one sitting. Each couple in Silver’s Colorado Black Diamonds hockey series gets hotter and hotter, and I LOVED everything about Bex and Nick’s forbidden/ secret workplace story. Despite their age difference, I fell hard for Bexley’s passion for her job, being the first General Manager in the league, and her dedication and desire for Nick. Nick’s outward awkward exterior was adorable, yet in the bedroom, his true dominant, demanding needs surfaced for sure. I loved the tension and the lingering touches these two had before finally giving into temptation and going for what they truly wanted no matter the consequences. When you love someone, nothing else matters. The banter between Nick and his teammates was hilarious and so much fun!

Overall, I LOVED this book. If you are a fan of a hockey romance with a hot hunky goalie, a strong, confident GM, dating mishaps, advice-giving meetings, reliable teammates, bathroom spice, secret snowy cabin getaways, gardening, cooking, tabloid gossip, public hockey kisses, family dinners, a supportive dad, and a HEA that is simply the best, then you will love Bexley and Nick’s story. I always look forward to more from Emily Silver.

Emily delivers again with this hockey romance story of Nick and Bex. Bex is the team’s general manager and Nick’s the hot young goalie on the team. This is the third book in the Colorado Black Diamond series and can be read as a standalone.

Nick and Bex find themselves struggling with their dating game. They vow to help each other with dating lessons only to discover strong feelings for one another. It gets messy with the workplace romance they do Al they can to keep it a secret.

I love a good hockey romance book and Emily delivers with Nick and Bex’s story.

“Going out with someone else tomorrow doesn't feel right. But I agreed to this with Nick. For Nick. Except now, he's the only person I want. Maybe I need a lesson in how not to fall for my player.” -Bex

Best of the Best was a quick read for me! A forbidden workplace romance (hockey goalie + general manager) with a reverse age gap! Nick Brooks-Young is a goalie for the Colorado Black Diamonds. He has a hard time dating, even when his friends try to set him up. Bexley Hart, GM and daughter of the team owner, notices how similar Nick’s dating life is to hers. She proposes to Nick the idea for [mutual] dating lessons. Nick and Bex tried to see other people, but they couldn’t stop thinking about each other. I enjoyed reading their relationship in this book, even though they fell for each other pretty fast! The age gap wasn’t a huge turn off for me because I felt like Nick and Bex had good chemistry. For this being a hockey romance, the hockey parts were written well, and I loved the found family moments. Nick definitely has supportive teammates that are there for him no matter what.

Thank you Emily Silver for an ARC of this book! I’m excited to read the next book in this series!

This is a fun, entertaining read. Nick and Bexley are interesting, strong, complex, wounded, intriguing, relatable, entertaining characters. I enjoyed them as individuals and a couple. The path to their HEA was not easy but entertaining to read. These two are fun to spend time with. I enjoyed the scenes with the various players on and off the ice. The secondary characters added to the fabric of the story and my enjoyment. The story is easy to read and get into. I’m loving this second-generation series and looking forward to the next book in the series.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Holy range of emotions!! The feels y'all! You will experience every single one of them. This book is the perfect blend of intoxicating chemistry, swoon, witty banter, family, heartache, feels, sparks, lust and SO. MUCH. STEAM. Bexley & Nick experience love, anger, happiness, and sadness but it didn't feel like a roller coaster, each paged flowed seamlessly to bring this story together with an ending that left me smiling. Seriously y'all need this book in your lives.

Bexley is a bad@$$! I love this strong female excelling in a male dominant position. The people that are in her orbit daily are aware of her competence and are behind her 100% but the fickle public that love to drag people down? Yeah, they bring it. Nick is awkward with women and dating and Bex wants to help but things don’t go as planned when it is obvious that Nick isn’t awkward around her and they both are comfortable enough to be themselves with each other- not to mention their chemistry explodes off the page! This is a great story about standing up to the masses and not letting society keep you from the one that brings you happiness and contentment in life.

Nick and Bex are definitely the best of the best. Nick might seem like the quiet one but once his walls come down he’s a confident HOT leading man! Bex has no idea what she’s getting herself into. I loved their relationship and Nick giving Bex all the confidence in being the bad boss woman that she truly is. I think the cabin was my favorite part and watching the two connect on a deeper level. Side note: I loved seeing Alex and Carter AGAIN, as well as other returning characters.

Bex and Nick have been unlucky with dating recently. He’s a 23 year old hockey goalie and Bex is the team GM. When they both need help dating, they decide to practice on each other. Nick has trouble talking to his date and Bex can’t get hers to show up!

However, these two fall fast and hard! She’s 13 years older and is the GM for his team. But no matter what, the black diamonds hockey players love hard!

I am so in love with Nick & Bexley's story! They were truly so perfect for each other in every way possible. Bexley brought out Nick's confidence while Nick allowed Bexley to be fully herself with *and* without hockey in the mix. Lesser men were intimidated by Bexley's career but Nick did everything he possibly could to support her & lift her even higher.

You won't believe my excitement when I got to the "let's help each other date" proposal. I eat that up every single time! Because you KNOW it's never just learning. I was giggling, kicking my feet every time they had a talk with themselves about their crush & how they're just "helping" each other.

I've read half of Emily Silver's backlist so far, and this book is for sure in my top 5 favorites!

Features:
- 10+ year age gap
- She's older
- Team GM x starting goalie
- "helping" each other date
- Secret forbidden relationship
- No third act breakup

Thank you to Emily Silver for sending me an early copy!

Bex, is one independent and kickass heroine. It was just her and her dad growing up, and in order to have a relationship with him, she studied everything hockey. Which led to her working in a male dominated area, as GM to the hockey team Black Diamonds.

Every decision she makes is evaluated and that isn't easy. It's also hard on her dating life, especially because men don't want a woman who is as successful she is.

Nick, oh my word. This man.

Nick is one of the best goalies in the NHL, but his also very shy. He lived his life not wanting to be in the spotlight, preferring books over people. That was until he started hockey in highschool and that changed his career path, but not the person he is. He is awkward and has an incredibly hard time talking to women.

(his dating life...is terrible)

Nick and Bex, had the best chemistry and the development of their relationship was just beautiful. And regardless of hating the spotlight, when it comes to his love for Bex...he has no problem declaring it to the world!!!

Loved catching up with the couples from the previous books ♥️

The friendship between the guys 🤍

Noah omg...I need this man's book!

And why did it not click that Graham Fisher is Knox and Frankie's kid? 😂

Best of the Best (eARc review) - Emily Silver

I love a good reverse age gap (10 years)! Nick is the Black Diamonds goalie (23) and Bex is the GM (taking over from her dad).

Nick off the ice is quiet, shy and terrible at dates. Bex, being a woman in sports, is often intimidating and her dates end up backing out. So they team to up learn how to date better.

But those lessons aren’t true lessons after a few times hanging out. They fall fast and hard for each other. Their relationship gets outed so without any spoilers, some drama happens. But of course we get our HEA 🥰

Nick also has a pet bunny (Oreo). He will forever be known at Bunny Daddy to me. 🥹

4⭐️
2.5🌶️

My only disappointment was I wish it was longer. I wanted to read about these two for at least another 300 pages. I devoured this in a day (like I did the first two). It was a light, fun and spicy read!

One of the players ends up getting traded… so… are we getting a spin off series? Book 4? Blink twice for yes Emily!

This was such a sweet reverse age gap, forbidden, work place, hockey romance. Reverse age gap isn’t my favorite but this one was written in such a way that I really enjoyed it, and I didn’t even notice the age difference which I loved. I also love a strong bad a*s FMC and Bex being a GM in the man dominated hockey world is the epitome of strong and kick a*s. The way these two stuck it out and brought each other out of their shells was everything. This series really is great, I haven’t met a couple in this universe that I haven’t loved.

My Review 🏒🏒🏒🏒🏒

Nick Brooks-Young - they always say the silent types are the ones to look out for. Well this one is straight out of that phrase. The quiet shy guy we met in Angie’s book has turned into a HOTT MAN.

Yes he may not know how to talk to the ladies but it also may just be that he hasn’t come across the one person that challenges him enough to come out of his comfort zone enough to be himself.

Bex is absolutely bad a** walking into a man world an showing them that women belong at the table just as much is what girls need to see. Only problem is she intimidates anyone who might want to date her.

One night and two bad dates bring these two together and the rest is just a blur.

I loved seeing the love grow between them. Yes they had to keep it a secret but you didn’t feel as if they had to hide. The sweet moments they share and the dirty alpha talk that comes from Nick with make you say Yes Sir.

It’s always great to get a glimpse of the characters we love so much from previous books and this one has it.

Now what’s next for the hockey stars……..
