Money is the root of all evil, but only to those who lack it and the ability to govern their emotions. Jealousy and envy are the true root of evil. For those with money, it's simply a tool. A tool to create opportunity for others, or to put down those who threaten them.
Yacouba and Jasmine were a pairing destined to happen. Thrown together in the unlikeliest of ways, their mutual fires forged into a singular, greater flame. Trouble is brewing both within and outside of the Consortium. The elders wonder if Jasmine can be trusted especially when old enemies threaten her freedom. This couple has to find a way to come out on top by any means necessary. Do they have what it takes to make it to forever?
While it wasn’t as good as book one, Owo was still entertaining as hell. David refuses to believe Jasmine is just not that into him anymore, DeeDee’s ungrateful azz is still in her pick me era, Gladys is still enabling her jealous and delusional azz daughter, Alice is still tryin’ to run her dead son’s pockets, Jada is still volatile, Jasmine is still bossin’ up on Couba & givin’ him hell, and Couba still don't play about his Jazzy Baby. I loved this couple. Jasmine and Couba gave me all the On The Run gangsta feels and I was here for it. Owo was a little slow to start but, overall, I still enjoyed this book and I look forward to reading more about The Consortium.
Yacouba has made his way to the book bae list and has solidified his spot!!!! Y’all already know how this man was coming in book 1 and babbbyyyyy he elevated that thang in book 2!!!! I’m sayinggggg in his words “big thighs, big bank, big D, big everything!!” 😮💨
Book 2 picked up a few months from where we left off in book 1 and the shenanigans were shenaniganin’ 🤣🤣🤣 David was in rare form, DeeDee was selling fish plates all over town *IYKYK* 😆 and her mama was still acting a plum fool! One things for certain and two things for sure, Couba is unhinged but will make sure those that he loves will never want for anything! He was like a genie in a lamp behind Jasmine! Her every wish was his command! We love a n*gga that makes sh*t shake effortlessly and he was Harlem shakin’ it behind his Jazzy baby!!!! You got the juice Cou!
While I enjoyed the story, it didn’t quite hit like book 1. DeeDee’s storyline was druuuggggg through the woods and I was ready for that to be a done deal! Where is the raid spray when you need it because she just would not go away!!! There was also a missed opportunity to use David’s deceit and snitch behavior to develop a more in-depth storyline. Who was he working for? Did that die with him? We know Buddha was on some snake sh*t too but I wanted the author to really run with the possibilities that could’ve come from that! Maybe it will carry into another book? 🤷🏽♀️ I was also shocked by the battery that Jasmine had in her back behind Yacouba when she was a settling fool behind David. That was the energy she needed for his tail.
That ending was a shocker tho!!! I did not see that coming AT ALL!!! Well played DM, well mf played!!! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽I hope this isn’t the last well seen of these two and that they make an appearance in future books! This series was my first read by DM and I’m definitely looking forward to diving further into her catalogue in the future!
Baby, that funeral scene? I was cackling to no end. These two together are pure menaces. I love their banter. This second book really did it for me. The way Couba gives off BDE. Whewww! This man is about his business and I loved every minute of it. Jazzy Baby was in good hands. The twist I was not expecting regarding David was like wow!
But yeah, BRB let me go hop in Dandridge’s DM about Jada crazy ass. Lol
4.5 ⭐️ “Money is the root of all evil, but only to those who lack it and the ability to govern their emotions. Jealousy and envy are the true root of evil. For those with money, it’s simply a tool. A tool to create opportunity for others, or to put down those who threaten them.” Yacouba “Owo” Miller
This is a continuation & more in depth version of Yacouba Miller & Jasmine Cunningham’s story.
Yacouba was ENERGY!!!!!!!! I loved Jasmine too though, & I loved how this story basically just broke down how they were both BAD A**ES in their own way! Although there were some slow parts, I thoroughly enjoyed this story & the introduction to the consortium and how it works.
Jada, I CANNOT WAIT TO READ HER STORY! I’m also intrigued by Li & Priest as well!
Well, I thought Red Roses shook me, had me on the edge of my seat, raised my blood pressure, and made me fall in love with this crazy ass couple Yacouba and Jasmine! But this right here....... damn! 🔥
We pick right up with that delusional David thinking he can get back in Jasmine's good graces. That ass whooping that Yacouba gave him musta damaged his damn brain cells, cause why?? Why would she even consider taking you back after all that ish you done brought into her life?? 👀🤯 Then Dee Dee gets the ain't ish family member of the decade award! That heifer rubbed me raw, and I wish that Jasmine would have let Jada loose on that ass! Uhhhhh....😡 She just wanted to break Jasmine down and ruin her life! For what?? Jealousy is a dangerous drug! 😂
Yacouba did not play about his Jazzy Baby and would move heaven and earth to protect her. Between dealing with consortium business, David and Dee Dee's mess, and supporting Jasmine he had his hands full! Then all hell breaks loose! What?? Who did it?? They charging who??? This ride just kept getting better and better. 🤩 The drama, the calculated moves, the love and definitely the laughter had me hanging on every word!
This story line is fire, and I can't get enough! Looks like we have two new stories brewing with Priest and Liam, and I cannot wait! Keep em' coming, I love it here! ❤️👍👍👍
Let me say this Jasmine you are bad BiH! And you had me fooled! Lmao like what?!? Yacouba and Jasmine pick this story up trying to be together while still dealing with David and his baggage. We also learn about Jasmine new work project and the stress she's been under with that. Yacouba is dealing with all his business dealings, trying to keep Jasmine safe, and the Consortium. This book started slow because Dandridge had a lot of building to do in this book to get us to the climax of the trial. Yes, I said trial 😩. The bus trial had me hot but whew victory was delivered but y'all are going to have to read to find out! Also again Jaamine girl you are slick as hell! Cause the twist you did had me shook! I thought Yacouba loved Jasmine crazy but she took the cake on that! The family interactions I enjoyed! The brothers have some interesting stories to tell! Jada is definitely getting with the Hawaiian and I can't wait for that book! Deedee and her mom are trash and honestly, there was a moment when I questioned whether were they really family. Overall I enjoyed this book! Slow to start but that trial and funeral were crazy! Excited to see what's next!
This book was about 100 pages too long. While I enjoyed the characters; Jazzy Baby and Couba were sweet together, the story itself was dragged on too long. I thought about calling it a DNF a few times, but because I liked the characters I wanted to see how it ended for them.
This is the story about Jazzy and Couba becoming official. Let me say that both of them were low-key psychopaths 🥴 but I appreciated the crazy side of them. I loved how they looked out and supported each other. Couba didn't play about her at all and it was felt and shown.
David's story was dragged to filth despite him going to the upper room he just kept being brought up. I was here for the plot twist though. Dede and her momma's annoying azz with the same song and dance was overkill. It felt like the same topics kept coming up and there were too many times I just felt bored.
Overall, this was mid for me. While I loved the chemistry of the mcs, the storyline around them needed to be more precise.
This book had everything, it was funny, captivating, a lot of hunching, pure love, joy and DRAMA! I laughed so hard, the funeral scene needs to win Oscar. I was so shocked when I found out who did you know what? It was hidden so I well.
If you don’t do anything else read this book and get your life.
Book 1 of my 2024 Journey was knocked completed with the 2nd Book in The Consortium series by Dandridge Monroe- Owo!
Needless to say, I’ve been sucked into the world of Jasmine Cunningham-Miller & Yacouba aka Owo Miller. He is the epitome of: “I will burn down the world for her.” He is truly the African American version of Zade Meadows! I love love love being immersed in their world. I thoroughly enjoyed the banter and the laughter that this novel made me have. I felt all of the feelings of the characters and loved the fact that black romance, excellence and love was the center of this story! Not only black love within romantic relationships but the love from family, siblings, friends, alliances. All of this was crafted so beautifully in this storyline! I think we all wish and ships for a love that Owow gives his girl.

📖Tropes: Black Love/romance, forced proximity, Black mafia romance, family, family business, murder.
Love, love, loveeeeee! Such a satisfying conclusion and the plot twist actually had my jaw on the floor. I did not see that coming. I didn’t think I was going to like Yacouba at first but I was VERY wrong. He’s a bit abrasive, but he handles business and I wish I could say that I would take Jazzy baby’s man but I’m certain she would put me on a t-shirt so instead I’ll just say congratulations to the happy couple! 😀🥂
4/5 🌶️ they matched each others freak and I said oh wow! The FaceTime scene while Yacouba is in the basement?! You know what… hell yeah? Hell maybe? Idk.
3.5 it was meh. I read it in one sitting not because I enjoyed it just because I wanted to get it over with. If I’m being completely honest book #1 was better I don’t see a reason why this couple had another book. If the author slapped a happy ending to that first book I would have been happy with that. I also think that David should received a much harsher punishment.
Yacouba is allllll man!!! What stuck out the most for me was a man that gives you money controls you but a man that gifts you the ability to make your own is a man that wants to see you win whether he’s by your side or not!! THAT IS A MAN! Dandridge did this!
Every new installment in this series brings me closer to the joys I feel when I read books like this one. I don't know anything about the lifestyle depicted in this story, and I was not appalled in the least bit with this narrative. I strongly urge that you'll need to read book one to better understand book two. I'll give you the cliffnotes. In the first book you met cousins who were entangled with the same man. And at the end of book one, that ship had sailed for David and Jasmine. The replacement was a dramatic man involved with this organization called the Consortium.. Book two picks up the drama and delicious details with Jasmine and her new man. The family, the cousins, the business empire headed by a ruthless, and calculated man, and court case, whew! I promise you will have enough to fill your reading coffers twofold. 4.75 stars....
“What good would a man be if he wasn’t willing to jump into some foolishness behind his woman?"
I love reading a book when a dude has this energy.
#BDE Owo is that dude..... 😍dude is willing to evict an ex out of a casket to repo it at a funeral, 😍bring a TEC to her corporate job because they screwed over her at work 😍and believes licking the kitty with diamond grillz is a sufficient way to say good morning, good luck 😊
#BlackLove #romance Owo steals the show and he doesn't play: “The second I saw her, my heart woke up."
The romance was legit as we watched both Jazzy baby and Owo stand on 10 toes for one another. Foul play and whack family members try to bring them down but here we see a powerful Black love story.
"I knew you were it for me.... I knew it was love when I realized I would set the world on fire in order to keep you warm.”
#crime I consider this a dark romance. It has mature themes like murder and crime. People get got and snatched up. But it's also just a strong mafia adjacent love story. Owo is a generational weatlh level baller, and Jasmine comes feim "good stock"; good family, loyal, intelligent, soft when need be, but strong to be a soft landing for her man. The world building was tight and well fleshed out. Enjoying seeing the tri-state area well represented. The way the Constortium enmeshed with Black American history was 👌🏾
#spice The steam was sooo good and well written. The spice was explicit and very open door but we get Owo being a power hitter in bed and owing it.
"And God blessed me to meet my future when I was out handling business.”
The plot of the first novel was better, but I nevertheless enjoyed this one. I found the story with the cousins to be exhausting, and I think David got away too easily. Jasmine really wasn’t playing in this book about her man Couba and I love it. I'm no closer to understanding what the "Consortium" is than I was before, but maybe the following book may provide some light on this mysterious organization.
3.5✨ I enjoyed this story, about the 30% mark is when things started to grab my attention. I think the author has a good storyline going, but at times the story felt repetitive. I did like the dynamic of Jasmine & Yacouba. Looking forward to more.
Now that Yocouba and Jasmine have made it official, I thought they were about to live happily ever after—but nope! The mess came storming in and did not let up. First of all, why won’t David go away? Sir, after all that Jasmine found out, you really thought she was going to welcome you back with open arms? In what world? Especially when she’s got a man like Couba who loves her out loud and doesn’t play about her. Be for real.
But then… whew, the plot twists! Jasmine getting snatched up by the police for murder had me clutching my imaginary pearls. And when the body turned out to be her messy, no-good ex? Yeah… things got wild fast. Couba was ready to move heaven and earth to make this disappear, but Jasmine being the strong woman she is? She stood ten toes down and said, “Nah, I got this.”
AND THEN—the cousin?? Not only was she messing with David behind Jasmine’s back, but she had two of his kids? BABY. The drama was top-tier, the tension was thick, and every chapter had me on edge, sipping tea like I was watching it unfold in real life. I won’t spoil it all for you, but just know this one is juicy.
If book one had me hooked, book two reeled me all the way in. Now excuse me while I dive headfirst into book 3 because I need to see what happens next.
This follow up to Red Roses and Regrets brought in more mess, but more love. Yacouba and Jazmine are trying to navigate their new life together, settle into their growing love, and get Jazmine accustomed to being with a man with the kind of quiet power that Couba brings, but folks won't let them be. Jazmine's aunt and cousin are still trying to cause problems, her job is playing in her face, the Consortium is pulling strings Couba can't stop and to top it off, David gets killed before Yacouba gets to do it, leaving Jazzy Baby as the prime suspect.
Okay, so this book made me laugh, and wrenched my heart, and had me shocked all at once. First let me say that Owo and Jazzy are still so sweet and so hot. Having the Consortium push between them was so messed up, but it was a good piece of the writing that showed Yacouba struggle, even as a man as confident and cool as he always was. He was still bending the world to his will, but he couldn't bend Jasmine; it was fun watching him learn her even more, and also to watch her shock that he paid enough attention to anticipate her needs. I connected with Jazmine's struggle to simply lean in and ask him to solve her problems; I know she was nerve wracking but I understood, lol. Their commitment to their connection was adorable. Their passion was palpable. You knew how they felt about each other. Bringing in Couba's family and the other members of the Consortium just made me want more of everyone, lol. It was great seeing their families come together, although Jazmine's aunt and cousin need to be tripped down some stairs. The plot twist and the murder I did not see coming, and I loved that story element--gave me the intrigue I needed. Couba being able to give Jazmine the closure she needed and make things better for her caught my heart. And that funeral scene? I cried tears I laughed so hard. All in all, Couba is still his same smooth, suave, quiet but deadly self and Jazzy was as worrisome as she could be, but she rode for him. And he took care of her. Good job.
I feel like it had some of the same vibes from the first book but this one was drawn out with unnecessary details. The cousin who had a serious case of jealously and envy , David who couldn’t let go, his momma who hated her, the consortium.. when did we really get time to focus on the relationship and romance of the couple, everything with them moved so fast that for a 300 page book, I still didn’t get much details about them. Nonetheless, it was cute how he went to warn for her and she him. I like her style but i still sit here thinking if you this gutta how you not know Davis was a piece of shit and why you stayed with him so long? But anyway, I’m anxious to see more from the men in this organization. I would specifically like the author to balance the organized crime shit with the romance . Thank you
Baby, there’s a lid for every pot…they definitely found someone to match their crazy. Both of these people need to lay on somebody’s couch. Just like in the first book I enjoyed Jasmine & Yacouba together. One of the story lines dragged on too long (cousin) & another didn’t feel flushed out enough (Jasmine’s ex & his demise). But I still ate this up. The funeral scene was giving Tyler Perry but that plot twist…didn’t see it coming!
When I tell you I took a ride...A rollercoaster don't have enough twists and turns like this book did. A new author for me and I am pleasantly impressed. 2nd book to The Consortium series. Dramatic
The way Cou continued to step behind Jazzy baby was everything. I mean the way these 2 loved each other was unmatched. He ready to go against the Consortium, and Jazzy baby going still battling her sorry behind cousin Deidra. The way I read this book just to see how things unraveled. WHEW!
Deidra’s no good behind was truly a never ending cycle of a nuisance. She wasn’t letting up and it confused me so much. How can you scream family so much only to be screwing over the 1 person who was there for you and your kids. It really blew me.
The way Cou steps up even more for Jazzy baby with work, the impending case against her, and a few other things. It pissed me off when he put Jazzy baby through that test. Baby, I was nervous at one point. Jazzy baby was adamant about not letting him get a free pass and I loved it cause even his momma was with it.
To see the 2 families come together and blend so beautifully together was something in it self. BUT Miss Monroe, not you dropping that bomb pertaining to Jazzy baby the way you did. Miss Ma’am the way I was in here cutting up because I was like yassssssssss you betta Jazzy baby. And when it showed just how much Cou was there for her BTS and she ain’t even know it. I know that’s right!!!!!!
Yeah you did that!!! I loved watching them come full circle and building up their relationship. This was the perfect ending to Jazzy baby and Cou.
When Dandridge Monroe said the Consortium series was dark romance, fingers was crossed that it wouldn’t be that overly graphic dark horror meets Oedipus to the nth power…but I need not have worried. Subtle and hijinks is the name of the game because its takes a second to see this isn’t opposites attract type of connection…they are kindred spirits, so when they show their “I got you” love and devotion, it’s on a hilariously macabre -like Poe meets The Watchman vibe -level of chicanery. These ain’t normal moral thinking people and that’s ok!
So…If you want to introduced to nighty night communication tactics, dirty toilets, petty repo evictions that would make Patti clutch her pearls and peel you off the floor 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣, new definition of BBD, gun play and segs encounters that may require mobile IV’s…plus get connects to Desperadoes and Midst series….read. this. book.
Jazzy and Couba got together rather unconventionally. I mean, who walks into a surprise engagement to beat down the groom and walks out with that man’s fiancé in his arms. Even though it wasn’t a meet cute between them, their coming together was meant to be. This book shows us all of the things they went through while trying to solidify their relationship. The haters, betrayers, the delusional, disrespect, tests, accusations, trust, truth, and love still brought them through it all. Couba was all man - loyal, protective, passionate, determined and dedicated to to her and his goal of keeping her safe, secure and making her his. Jazzy more than proved that she was not weak and wasn’t no biotch in her blood! She stayed ten toes down for him, her love for him never wavering and bossed up which commanded and demanded respect - they had no choice but to welcome and applaud her! Bravo! Great read!
Book two is so good. Yacouba and Jasmine may joke around but they don't play about each other. They definitely have each other's backs, fronts, and sides. I love how they love on each other while talking cash money shyt in between time. They're branded for each other and certainly certified made for each other. I have highly enjoyed reading my first series by this author and gladly recommend. The relatedness of the characters to the conveying of the story to the actions of the plot twist to the language spoken and written, every thing is on point and gives what a real great story is supposed to give. From a little suspense, drama, backstabbing, humor, sex, and of the real love, it all is immaculate and just what I needed to read. I'm so glad that I was referred to this author and I'm ready to go down her reading pleasure rabbit hole. Her writing has instantly made me a loyal reader.
Back at it again with Jasmine and Yacouba. Jasmine girl she maybe one of my fave FMCs cause why did she do that and then went around preaching about her innocence. I loved the part where she picked her words carefully and never said that she did not do it. That was pure fineness! The way that Yacouba came through with the company beautiful. Jasmine’s cousin and her mother deserved her ass curb-stomped. Like every day! The way that they loved each other was beautiful. Jasmine was used to having to be strong and protect the people around her, and Yacouba was the perfect person to take care of the person that takes care of everyone. Man the funeral scene was some great carrying on, and recollecting all his money from that bitch ass mother. Bury that bitch ass nigga in a thin cardboard box. Great carrying on!
Jasmine and Yacouba definitely were a match made in heaven because they both some nuts lol. When a person can match your crazy and out crazy you then you are in for a treat. Jasmine definitely showed up and out for her man Mr. Nighty-Night and I was definitely surprised by that confessions because I low key thought it was someone else. Yacouba is definitely book bae material. He showed up and showed out and literally ruined people lives for messing with Jazzy baby and I mean I stan a man who go up for his woman.. no talk all action. I enjoyed this book it was very entertaining especially that funeral scene and any scene where the family was letting Dee Dee and her momma have it. Looking forward to reading more this author.
I gave this story a 4.5/5. I wanted an update on Jasmine and Couba and that's exactly what I got...and then some! There was more family drama (even more so than the last time), criminal activities, backstabbing, and some good old strong-arming by Couba on Jasmine's behalf.
One thing I didn't expect was the scene with Couba, his guys, and David's righthand guy. That was completely unhinged. As I was reading it I was thinking to myself, "they surely aren't going to do what I think they're going to do." I should have known that nothing would be off limits when they acted up the way they did at that church service.
This book was a rollercoaster and I loved every minute of it! On to book number 3!
