June Talledga has spent her whole life protecting herself. Everyone believes she’s the eccentric, happy, center of attention– but truthfully, her demons are darker than most. The only person who has ever been able to see her past her surface is Axel Price, the storm to her raging sea. Battling her feelings and her past, June must decide if the risk of pain is worth the reward of love. Will she overcome the hand she’s been dealt, or will she let it drag her back beneath its unrelenting grip?
Axel Price thinks it’s easier to be void of all emotions. He drowns himself in his career as a fisherman in an attempt at forgetting the woman who walked away three years ago. He thought he was moving on until she randomly shows up at his house, and to his surprise, is living with him. Trying to keep his distance—but doing a terrible job— Axel is confronted with the choice of letting her fully into his heart, or shutting her out completely. Faced with difficult circumstances, he realizes he would rather lose all of himself than lose her forever.
For some of us, it’s the storms that show us who we really are, not the calm of the sea.
Author and mom of three, Cece Raven, spends her days writing angsty romances and having full on conversations in her head that somehow turn into novels. Besides being an avid night owl and lover of LifeSavor gummies, she enjoys the Oregon coast and any place that smells like evergreens and fresh rain. After moving from her hometown Cece decided to deal with her homesickness through literature, creating characters who have complex backgrounds and often deal with some sort of trauma of their own. If you can't find her in the mountains or on the beach you can usually find her relaxing on a Papasan chair diving into a new book or drinking to much chai tea.

💓 June + Axel 💓
This freaking book!! Such a beautiful emotional journey. June and Axel met when they were younger at a party, had a fantastic few weeks and then didn't continue. Now all of a sudden she's living in his house when she needs a place to crash. The sexual tension is palpable and they start playing games with each other. When things finally snap the spice is SPICYYYY 🥵.
I don't want to say much more because you need to experience it for yourself. But it's emotional 🥹 and beautiful and I loved it so much.
I had the blessing of seeing Fishing for Trouble in different stages and the final product is nothing short of amazing! I’m so proud of Cece for getting this out into the world, so girls like June can feel seen in different corners of the world.
June and Axel, where do I even begin? My Lumos and Nox. Axel is a fisherman with a heart of pure gold, he is also the sexiest fictitious man ever, but that’s besides the point. June is a flirty and fun girl, with a darkness she can’t escape. She’s typically the friend most lean on, but never gets it back, which we’ve all been there and that alone makes June so dear to me. She battles her emotions everyday but manages to put a smile on her face and her past has not been kind to her. We watch them fall in love through June getting kicked out of her apartment, forcing them to be close, which only rekindles a flame they left burning years ago.
Cece always brings us romance, emotion and suspense. The chapters where Axel gets lost at sea had my stomach in knots (intentional pun). I was super impressed at how she captured the stages of survival and madness that comes with starvation and being alone. I really enjoyed getting to see Axel break through that wall June put up, and I admired how soft he is with her despite being an intimidating guy. We also get glimpses/updates about Claire and Dustin, which is a treat since Claire is my favorite character Cece has written. You might cry while reading this, you might heal, you will most definitely fall in love with Axel and June’s relationship. So, what are you waiting for? Go read it!
June and Axel’s story was heart warming and pure light to the literary world! (Literally. IYKYK) 💡 I was an ARC for Ceces book Lines We Shouldn’t Cross which was absolutely the cutest story, so when she gave me a chance to be an ARC for Fishing For Trouble I felt so honored to experience that again! And wow, this book was addicting, so entertaining and most of all, it was healing!! ❤️🩹
Axel is that big Viking looking man who is actually just a big teddy bear with feelings! He’s both protective and sensitive and I swear on my life I giggled every time he threw his hair up in a bun 🤤😍
And June, our sweet, June. We see you. We are you. And I’m so grateful for a character like June. She’s someone who gives all the love she doesn’t think she deserves back! But gosh her growth in this book is incredible 🥹
Anyway this review is becoming a book itself so I’ll leave it here! This book was the perfect amount of spice, angst, and even had me in tears several times! I loved it so much and if you don’t love it, you’re insane!
My heart literally couldn’t take it. 🥹 Axel and June’s story was another beautifully written one. Being able to see the trauma they had previously experienced and basically how it affected their lives/relationship to where it lead them to was perfect. There were so many moments with June that hit home for me .. especially the need to always try to please everyone and put on that “happy face” even if it meant sacrificing my own happiness ugh I definitely felt that. I am glad though that they were able to work on themselves and heal their hearts. ❤️🩹 Another part I loved was being able to experience June and Claire’s friendship again. I love them together!
You’ve done it again Cece! I can’t wait for the next book. 🤍
After already falling in love with Axel and June as side characters in Lines We Shouldn’t Cross, I was so excited to see them get their own book to tell their story next.
This was a story about light and darkness, love and hope, letting your guards down and building each other up. I loved that we got to know more about each of the characters and their pasts. This book is such a beautiful lesson in how we all process trauma differently, and how we all love differently.
You need the light to get through the dark, and you can’t truly appreciate the light without first experiencing darkness. June is such a strong and passionate character, and so many of her deepest fears are ones I share too. Axel was so patient and gentle with her (well, not always gentle, if you know what I mean 🥵). The way they balanced each other out was truly a dream. And I love, love, loved how playful they were when June first moved in especially!
What a beautiful and meaningful story.
My Overall Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5/5
*I was gifted a copy of this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Fishing for Trouble by Cece Raven ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ June and Axel, she moves into his house without him knowing because her best friend and his brother say she can after she has to leave her own place. Axel doesn’t mind though because he’s been pinning after her for years. I loved this storyline for these two, the connection the fight the love, the way things all come together for them. Such great work🤍
Are you ready for me to gush and rave about this book? I loved every single thing about this story. The characters are amazing, relatable, and swoon-worthy. The spice was amazing, the emotional damage was damaging 😅, and the Harry Potter references had me melting.
“If you are not the Lumos, and we are both the Nox, then we will conquer the dark together.”
cece raven can do no wrong 🙌🏼 I loved this book so much! I loved getting to read june & axel’s story. from the very beginning I knew it would break my heart & then piece it back together. & I was right about that! both characters had trauma & things they had to work through separately. but I love how they came together in the end. I could tell early on in the book that they had a love like no other. I also loved getting to see claire & dustin from lines we shouldn’t cross. overall, this was an amazing book! can’t wait to see what cece raven is working on next because I’m obsessed 🥰
read if you like || -dual pov -he falls first -found family -forced proximity -grumpy x sunshine -second chance romance
“I’ve loved you for four years, and I’ll love you for a thousand more. Me and you, we are destined in every life.”
This was so heartwarming and emotional, I fell completely in love with both June and Axel🥹🩵 They had such a beautiful relationship and they were both really loveable characters with lots of depth and great storylines! It’s heartbreaking what they have been through and experienced, but seeing them both grow into themselves, June in particular, and discover the love they deserve just makes your heart feel so full. The chemistry, banter, and spice was all 10/10 and Axel just had me🥵 Also loved seeing Claire and Dustin🖤
Thank you so much Cece for the arc, I loved being back in Winchester Bay and excited for more to come with Ray and Hannah!!🫶🏻
Cece shows perfectly how something’s in life take time. So many times in stories we see *poof* everything happens instantly & that isn’t typically how life works.
All the reactions & feels are spot on & you feel right with the characters. I’ve honestly never felt more connected to a character like I did with June. She is so relatable on so many things.
Also can we talking about all the Harry Potter references 😍
I am honored I got to beta read this book. I have loved everything Cece writes. I can’t wait for her next book! 📖
Quote✨ “Even if you feel like the darkness, you are my light. And I promise I’ll do everything to be yours.”
Mini Synopsis This story is about June and Axel. They meet each other and really hit it off but as soon as things start hinting towards something more than just fun and friendship June starts to ghost Axel. She’s dealing with her own anxieties and trauma that tend to make her clam up as soon as someone wants to get close. Axel can’t seem to get over what could have been with June even 4 years later he’s still pining over her.
When a turn of events leads to June reentering Axels life he’s determined to break down those walls that June has up. He knows they could have the second chance they were meant to have if only she could let down her guard with him.
Thoughts 💭 June wants to love and be loved but she’s scared and Axel is a man that is willing to show his emotional side to let June know she doesn’t have to walk through darkness alone! This was a really sweet story and I enjoyed seeing Axel’s admiration for June. He shows her she doesn’t have to go through anything alone. I also enjoyed Junes growth throughout the book! There’s so much more I could share but don’t want to give anything away!
If you enjoy these tropes then add this one to your TBR when it’s released! ✨second chance ✨found family ✨friends to lovers ✨dual pov
I instantly fell in love with June and Axel in this story. June really stood out to me in Lines We Shouldn't Cross and I was so excited when I learned she was getting her own story. She had so much depth as a character and Cece did a beautiful job of taking that "sunshine, optimistic, always happy" friend and showing the darker parts that many of us have inside ourselves. It added so much depth and complexity to her character.
& the utter SIMP that is the big ole fisherman like Axel. So rough around the edges but soft for the woman he loves... I'm such a sucker for it. I absolutely adored him and his patience and support as June worked through the things that haunted her.
The metaphors between light and dark were so beautiful throughout this story. & of course, as always, Cece had me on the edge of my seat with suspense. I love the way that took place in the middle of the book, so we had the opportunity to see the characters heal together afterwards. I felt like it added such a vulnerable and emotional element that we don't always get to see in books with a suspenseful plot.
This book is amazing. I really like LWSC and I was excited for more from Cece and this also not disappoint. I really like the June and Axel's story, it's totally emotional rollercoster. Their story is so heartwarming. They go through so much together and have such a fun relationship. And Axel is swoon worthy. I really love his character, I really love the way he take cares of June and give her space to figure things out is really everything. June's character development from beginning to end is really great and well-written. I also suprised we get the glimpses of Claire and Dustin. I really like the friends group dynamic so much, it's so much fun to read. This is really wonderful story about friendship, healing and about love, giving a second chance to love. I really recommend this beautifull story.
I SPED through this book. I loved the first book in this series and I love this one so much too. It was such a heartbreaking but heartwarming and relatable book to read. I felt like I could feel the connection with both Axel and June immediately.. they both have endured so much pain and seeing them piece eachother and themselves back together was just so pure. The character development was amazing, especially for June and I just love this love story. Axel is steamy 🥵 I feel like my heart is so full after reading this, thank you CeCe for letting me be apart of this wonderful world!
These two go through a lot through this book. I struggled with the beginning of this book, for me the pacing felt off and rushed which made it harder to feel connected to the story. It was a lot of intense emotions really quick.
But the book reads really easily and I enjoyed it from the start, I just took me a bit to feel invested. Once I did, it was a beautiful & very emotional journey. My heart ached for June and I loved seeing her growth throughout the book. Axel was everything I wanted him to be. ❤️
axel price!! he's so perfect and so patient with june. i felt so bad for him, but i knew june was going through something. i'm so glad he was there for her every step of the way.
it was so nice seeing claire and dustin again from book 1. i can't wait to read the next one in the winchester bay series!
The amazing thing about Cece Raven is her ability to create characters we feel for and love. It is no different on Fishing for Trouble. June and Axel’s story is beautiful. I’m so honored to have received an ARC for this one.
axel, our swoon-worthy thor, but like make him a fisherman, has loved our fmc for years... as in, went dark for a bit without her light.
& remember our blonde tattood bombshell bff from cece raven’s first novel, lines we shouldn’t cross?? right - we’re back with june, my love. she’s the epitome of sunshine and sass, but like with a touch of abandonment issues…(relatable, no?) same, same ☑️
either way, these two are navigating uncharted waters (see what I did there?) in life & love, along with some old and new characters, iykyk.
this book pulls all the heartstrings and is so beautifully written. it gives all the feels: swooning | blushing | silent screaming | edge of my seat - what is going to happen?? | and plenty of insert taylor lyric here.
thank you cece raven for the opportunity to read this arc and love all my favorite characters again 🤍
I loved this book. This is the second book in the Winchester Bay series and while I loved the first book, this one has my heart. I felt every emotion reading this book. The amount of times I said "I am June, June is me" was uncanny. I felt seen in this book. So many times I cried just the way the author wrote June. Her character was so broken but healing in the most perfect way. And my Axel. Yes MY Axel. I’m protective of this man! Damn, he’s perfect. What he all did for her. That takes a strong man. I don’t even want to say more, but I will leave you with just a few of the MANY things I highlighted that were my favorite and are very important to me.
All of the emotions I felt in this book from beginning to end…my goodness! Flirty banter, frustration and annoyance, heartbreaking moments and a rescue that brought me to literal tears! A breathtaking visual for a wedding scene. Adventure with camping and racing. The peaceful nights on the boat. This book literally had it all.
I don’t know if I will ever get over this book. It hit so much harder than I thought it would and forced me into a time of reflection. The amount of therapy I forced Cece Raven to participate in through DMs was absurd but apparently super necessary. Cece gave the perfect amount of pining, tension, thrill, emotion and understanding in this book and it could not have been a more beautiful story.
I say this a lot…I know I do but, I love everything about this book. Axel is so evidently in love with June and the dictionary definition of pining. The way Axel handles June with such loving care is the most admirable thing. He is setting a whole new standard for fictional men and I am here for is. June is broken and fighting to accept the love around her. She is so much more than her past despite what she may initially believe but her story is beautiful. The two of them together are playful and the perfect balance. If I could force everybody I know to read a book it would be this one. Partially because I relate to June so much and this would give a huge insight to who I am/what I think but mostly because its brilliant and you need to read it.
What to expect: 🎣Close Proximity 💡Found Family 🎣Friends to Lovers 💡Emotional/Trauma Rep 🎣Dual 1st Person POV 💡No Third Act Break-Up
I was given a digital copy of this book for an honest ARC review so here goes...
This book was so cute! I really want me an Axel.
So here's the gist of it... June has had her fair share of heartbreak and past trauma. When she is coerced into going to a nearby house party, she stumbles upon Axel, the charming and handsome host. Over the next four years, a friendship, bordering on benefits, grows between the two. With plenty of bumps along the way, will they keep fighting their growing attraction or will they give into their desires?
Im not very good at reviews... you've been warned.
