David always was an outdoorsman and an explorer. But when Earth merged with the magical world of Tannoris, it suddenly became too dangerous for anyone without a Class to leave the cities. A shame, too, because with elves, foxkin, catkin, and many other magical beings abound, there is plenty for him to experience!
But now, David’s dream just might come true! A mystical ritual will awaken his Class, and a budding homestead on the wild frontier is waiting for him to take ownership.
He won’t be going alone, though — a charming fox girl will teach him the ways of the frontier. And in return, David might teach her some things, too…
This book had everything it needed to be good. MC is unfulfilled with his current life/job. Get chance to live out his dream on the frontier and gets an epic class. World is diverse, interesting, and both dangerous and beautiful. Plenty of chances for plot twists, dangerous encounters, class building. Made it half way through the book and just couldn't stand the day to day love story boredom. Despite the frontier being very dangerous he runs into nothing more dangerous than a jealous runt foxkin in the first half. Ending with the 30ish page sex scene. Maybe this is someone's cup of tea, but not mine.
Mc was handed everything and it didn't feel like he earned anything. His inner voice felt kinda incelly and manosphere esc. It really just rubbed me the wrong way so I dropped it about a quarter of the way through.
The idea was great. But, the characters were bland as could be. Especially the women. I honestly could not get over how there was so much room for adventure and character development, especially romance wise, and there was absolutely none. The love interests were as bland as you can make them. Slice of life is definitely slower than a high fantasy novel but this book had no action, no development.
The idea there the writing is not bad but bland characters make for a bland novel.
I’ve followed this author through a number of his previous word - from short stories through his more extended works. Clearly - as an author Jack Bryce is a work in progress, but holy cow - the guy can WRITE!
I absolutely LOVED his previous extended series Country Mage - it checked SO many boxes. This next effort - Frontier Summoner - follows roughly the same vein, but showcases what every author strives for - to take feedback from previous works, and use it to take subsequent work to another level. This initial installment of that next work shows Author Bryce takes his fan’s feedback seriously - it’s that good.
I can’t wait for the next installment - yesterday is one day too long. But artisans need time to work their magic, so I’m happy to wait however long for the next installment.
What I enjoy most about Author Bryce’s work is how happy it makes me feel. I truly enjoy his descriptions of life just ‘working out for the best’ through hard work, honesty, and commitment. For sure, not the “conventional” norms we all grew up with, but these are, after all, fantasy stories, with a healthy dose of love, happiness, and fulfillment.
Check out this author’s previous works to fully appreciate the diversity of his resume. Some may…surprise you? But having experienced it, you’ll certainly gain a much greater appreciation for the direction he’s taking his storytelling in, and just what a capable wordsmith he truly is.
Mood: Off-grid fantasy with suspicious amounts of cleavage and cabin-building.
Frontier Summoner is the ultimate cozy fantasy—summoning creatures, living off the land, and somehow ending up in a harem with a flirty fox girl who speaks in a French accent and a filthy-hot blonde country girl who could break you like a twig and still look sweet doing it.
It’s peaceful, woodsy, and magically horn—wholesome! I meant wholesome. Definitely wholesome.
Perfect if you like your fantasy low-stakes, your campfires warm, and your characters accidentally forming a thirst trap commune in the forest.
Would 100% read again. Possibly while pretending I’m just here for the world-building.
This series has big shoes to fill after Jack's Country Mage series, and I think it has started off wonderfully. This book took everything that worked in Country Mage, wholesome characters and relationships, mostly outdoorsy and easygoing setting, cute slice of life moments, and a splash of magic, and yet it doesn't feel like an exact copy. It feels like Jack Bryce is developing a new sub-genre Outdoorsy Slice of Life Harem or something like that. Either way, it's a niche that needed to be filled and really works for him, I can't wait for the next one!
David's fate changes one day after losing his job due to closure .
David worked every day to make ends meet in a upheaval world where two worlds coexist together on one planet called earth .A another world from a different realm crashed into earth changing both worlds forever combining the two together . David goes to work one day and the company closes down losing his job .That day changed everything for David as another opportunity presented itself changing his life forever . recommend reading excellent book .
Earth and a fantasy world make a new world. Our hero is form earth. Earth people that didn't get a great class assigned stay in sheltered cities. Our hero lives in the city but wants to get out. He gets a chance to get as frontier into the wild. He gets a foxkin girl at his side and while they try to settle they get near to each other. Slice of life feel good story. I like that the romance takes time and even if it is not a slow pace romance there is one and they keep getting near each other.
I enjoyed the slow slice of life that was depicted in this book, but I was hoping for a bit of action rather than a slow building harem in a frontier setting. A little danger of some sort would have livened up the story a little. I did stop reading this book to read a more action based novel before I could finish reading this novel, so the story was not compelling enough to fully hold my attention for the whole book. But you do get what is advertised.
60% slice of life 35% romance 4% erotica 1% crafting 0% harem 0% adventure 0% action
It’s well written, absolutely no complaints about that. If you’re looking for romance and slice-of-life with a dash of smut and a smidgeon of crafting, I recommend this book 100%.
But if you’re looking for action, adventure, or anything else - it’s not in this book.
I give it 5 stars because while it’s not my cup of tea, someone else out there is definitely thirsty for exactly this kind of read.
Book was exactly what you expect from the frontier. The main character is very relaxed, happy with his new life, and the woman in his life is just as chill. If you want a book (books, there are 9) that is filled with an incredibly relaxed atmosphere, no rising action or climax (outside of sex scenes, ha!), simplistic writing style that coincides with the simplistic lifestyle portrayed in the book, this is absolutely for you! However, if you do not like the book after reading 15%, don’t waste your time.
This could have been amazing but the author went to far on the sappy romance side and made the book boring. I know that this is a harem series but the author ruined this were is the adventures the magic the crafting that was what i wanted to hear not this woo-woo romantic blurp it was so boring and Dianne voice ugggg just no I hate the French/ something accent gross French is not sexy at all it sounds like someone talking with a mouth full of food ewwww just no. I tried to get past all that but this was just boring 😴
The essence of slice of life is good people doing good things and living their lives. Books in this genre are frequently romantic meanderings that at first glance seem uneventful but in reality sharing a day to day routine with someone you truly love is a gift to be treasured.
So take the break from your hectic life and read this book. It may just change your view of what you really need in life.
David loses his job but is recruited to becoming a homesteader. His partner, who will teach him useful skills, is Diane, a cute fox girl. Naturally, he soon falls for her and courts her. No combat, but a lot skill development. Enjoyed.
There is the potential for a good story here, but in my opinion, there are flaws that are difficult to endure. - great detail for the mundane. Every meal is described. Each element of activities or travel is listed. There is a ton of time spent getting to any important scenes. - the characters were fairly flat. There is a lot of room to give them real personality and to improve the dialogue
You know I didn't think this author could beat his country made series. But he did! All I can say about this book cause I don't do Story breakers. Is that it's the best book I've read in a long time com And I want more! More more more!
Its a decent read but at times I felt it was more of a romantic fantasy than anything. Too much religion, recognising people going through the town gate etc and far too much descriptive detail. Made the book hard work. We’ll see if book 2 is better.
That, and he’s a little too flowery in how he is telling the story. The timeline problems are just a little too jarring. And when he gets a little too flowery, I just want him to get on with the story. Sorry but this book is a hard no.
It was witty and fun to read. The story is entertaining and keeps you reading until the end. I hope this series continues for a while. Ohh what if they made it an anime?!
The main characters have a good set up that sets the stage nicely. The side characters are a bit flat and the day to day gets repetitive, but that is not enough to detract overall. So five stars.
What a long book, no battles just a human a foxkin falling in love. The whole book... I started scrolling around 60% completed just looking for a fight that never came. Yawn! No intrest in where the next book goes.
This is an easy going story of a people living in a changed world. The premise is interesting based on the world changed. Looking forward to the next one
I liked every moment of this book. I very much like the way the author spins a story and plays it out to the audience. Looking forward to the next one.
One conflict, no attacks in the wild areas but honestly, more action less cooking lessons. You don’t need to drag out the sex but I guess that is what sells.
