A Darling for a Demon

Rate this book
Pepper has always been a little more than fascinated with ghosts and the paranormal. Her best friend, Georgia, would say it borders on obsession, particularly if her taste in books has anything to do with it. When Pepper drags Georgia out to a haunted house - a real one, not one of those staged tourist traps - late on Halloween night, she is more than thrilled to experience some actual paranormal activity, to her best friend's dismay. What she doesn't know is that the demon in residence has been expecting her. Before the night is over, Pepper may get exactly what she bargained for - and much, much more.

A Darling for a Demon features a curvy leading lady and is Pix Pentham's first foray (among many to come) into the paranormal romance genre.

This was a fun Halloween romance novella with a woman with a taste for scarerousal and the demon she was hoping to find. It was smutty and over the top, with very little on page getting to know each other.

Spice: 4/5

Triggers: examples of emotional and psychological abuse and gaslighting from parent and former partner, cheating (by ex partner, past), home invasion, dubious consent for touching and having FMC take sexy pics of herself, cyber stalking

This was a cute and steamy novella about an avid monster romance reader who goes to a haunted house hoping the scary things could be real but knowing full well they could never be.

When she finds out they are she's all in!

It took me a bit of searching through the Halloween romance section before I found something I wanted to read right in the current moment instead of just adding it to my list to revisit later. Suzanne Wright’s Dark in You series is one of my favorite series, I just love how she does demons and despite being super scared of demons in paranormal/supernatural movies, I love them in romance. So when I saw the title: A Darling for a Demon, I wanted to check it out. The synopsis amused me and it sounded like this book would be such a good, fun time, so I went ahead and got it!

I loved Pepper and Kaz on their own and their dynamic together and I also loved Georgia and her and Pepper’s friendship as well. Georgia and Pepper’s friendship seemed so genuine and true, they razz each other in the way that friends do and they were so supportive of one another. They were just so good to each other and their connection was one of the things I loved about this book, although don’t get me wrong, I still very much loved the romance. Pepper and Kaz are so passionate for each other both in the steamy, not-so-nice ways and the tender, sweet, loving ways too. Pix Pentham just hit it out of the park with the relationships and really everything else when it comes to this book!

I think it’s obvious how I feel about A Darling for a Demon, but just for clarity’s sake — I loved it from the first chapter title and my love for it grew the more I read on because really, there was just so much to love about this book. It had a little of everything. It was fun and playful, hot and sweet, romantic and tender, and it tugged on my heartstrings but also warmed them in the best way possible too. It was beyond wonderful and I can’t wait to read more from this author and I hope Georgia gets a book of her own even if she is a bit of a scaredy cat when it comes to demons and all.

When Pepper convinces her best friend Georgia to explore a supposedly haunted house on Halloween night, she’s hoping for a few ghostly thrills. What she doesn’t expect is to encounter Kaz, an actual demon who’s been waiting for her arrival. What begins as a night of spooky curiosity quickly spirals into something far more intimate and dangerous. With temptation, power, and the supernatural at play, Pepper must decide how much she’s willing to give in to the darkness she’s always been drawn to.

This novella is delightfully unapologetic about what it is — short, steamy, and to the point. The pacing works well for its 93-page length, keeping things tight without feeling rushed. The friendship between Pepper and Georgia adds a welcome grounding presence, balancing out the more sensual elements with humor and warmth. Kaz is exactly what you’d want from a paranormal love interest: equal parts alluring and menacing. It’s a fun Halloween read that leans into its atmosphere without taking itself too seriously.

There isn’t much plot beyond the premise, but that’s part of the charm. This story knows what it wants to be and executes it cleanly. The chemistry between Pepper and Kaz is instant, more for effect than realism, but it works in the context of such a compact story. Overall, it’s sexy, spooky, and self-aware, making it a great choice for readers looking for a quick, seasonal escape. Check the content warnings before diving in, but otherwise, enjoy the ride.

4/5 A perfect little paranormal tryst for a chilly October night.

A very cute and hot novella that has boiled down everything loved about monster romances in less than a hundred pages. It’s an interesting premise with little to no conflict. So if you just want some monster spice and isntalove to give your brain a break this is a good place to start. I wish there had been a bit more chemistry between the two leads after the haunted house, it felt more like every cliche line and event that usually happens in a full length book packed into twenty pages. So don’t go in with hopes of a lot of plot or getting to know the characters. But if you want something fluffy and kinky then go for it! No thoughts only vibes is how I feel overall for it and sometimes that’s all you need.

I was looking for a short novella to bring me back into the reading game and this did just the trick. I love Kaz and Pepper together, especially towards the end. Kaz becomes more caring and genuine towards Pepper and makes her and her friend, Georgia, breakfast.

Not only was their spice but there was fluff and I loved the fluffy version of Kaz.

Overall, it was a good read with a conclusive ending. I just wish we got to see him in the same room with Tanner but that might just be me feening for jealous Kaz. :D

omg this book is on fire. If you like your smutt a little dsrk and twisted then do i have the rec for you. Pepper loves everything paranormal to the point that not only doesvit features in her fantasies but it gets her into ghost hunting. this time she might get more that she bargined for when the abandoned house shes exploring contains something thats clearly teasing her. This is dark an creepy and ho so very hot. Like ghost pepper hot. Short and captivating this book is a great pick for the Halloween season (or honnestly anytime you want a little scary smutt)

This story is utterly perfect!!! I really admire it when a short novella makes me love it so much that I give it 5⭐, it means it had everything I wanted from the story and more, and this book is exactly that.

It's hilarious, a full-on laugh read, that also had me blushing and giggling HARD the whole way through.

It's very kinky and just when I thought it was only an erotic novella, it surprises me a demon boyfriend who actually cares and fulfills Pepper's every need sweetly and, of course, passionately.

Obviously, I'd love to read about their day-to-day life after the story ends, but that's just me being greedy.

Absolutely LOVED this 💜😈

This was such a fun premise on a demon romance. I absolutely love Pepper and her little freaky self and the situation she gets herself into by ghost hunting. I love Georgia as a side character and the ultimate ride-or-die bestie. And I love that Kaz has all of the best aspects of a demon hunk, but that he is seemingly sweet and observant and caring as well.

For Pepper, and if I were in her situation as well, this is absolutely the best case scenario. It’s a fun, quick read with lots of spice and a mini masterpiece of a plot.

Romantic Demon

I might be totally off my rocker for saying this buuut A Darling for a Demon was not only steamy it was also sweet!

I went into this novella expecting it to be pure spice, and boy did Pix Pentham deliver on said spice, but it also had a really nice story along with it. And holy smokes Kaz is the most romantic stalker ever… even if his stalking did embarrass poor Pepper. (Hey her search history really helped him out haha!) Such a fantastic read for Halloween!

A Darling for a Demon was a very cute paranormal monster romance—perfect for the Halloween season. This novella could fall under the stalker romance category as well. The beginning was a little wordy and slow, but I really enjoyed the climax and falling action. Without spoiling too much, there is a HEA, and our Demon Kaz is as soft and caring as he is rough and scary.

Potential triggers include stalking, voyeurism, impact play, rough sexual encounters, and consensual degradation.

Spooky Season Monster Fun

Whoop cares about a plot when the monster fun is this fun?
He cooks, he knows her deepest desires and is willing to grant them. What else does a person need to be happy?

Is it wrong that I want a Kaz now

This was such a fun read. Kaz was such a treat to read, and the fact that he was all in was so much aww. I want so much of their story, and maybe some demon love for Gigi as well.

Spooky, spicy, sweet, and obsessed

Loved Kaz and Pepper in this story. I was on the edge of my seat in the haunted house with Pepper and Georgia, Pepper's best friend. Loved the obsession and spice with Kaz and Pepper.

This was cute and well written. My main issue is that the demon is still mostly human looking and they really didn’t do anything all that kinky imo. There was a long build up for it being a 90 page novella as well

A quick and dirty novella about a demon down bad for a human girl he's been stalking, finally meeting her face to face and becoming obsessed. The demon is just in luck as Pepper is very much into the paranormal and they strike a delicious deal 🙂‍↕️🔥

Delectable & Delicious

Ahhhh I need a whole massive series about Kaz & Pepper! A spin off with Gigi & one of his more human-esque demon buddies (associates? Do demons have "friends" in this Lore? Lol) this was such a fun, quick read. Love this!

This was one fun and quick read for me! While i’m not the biggest fan of 3rd person POV, here i loved it and didn’t care about it.

I loved Pepper, Georgia (her BFF and ride or die) and Kaz (our demon who haunts the house). In under 100 pages it was fun to see the friendship between Pepper and Georgia. And the nice HEA for Kaz and Pepper. I would have a lot of fun if we get an extended epilogue of Pepper and Kaz going to her mom’s for a dinner. That will be way too much fun!

Overall, this was a nice read, it had plot, spice and good characters!

A Darling for a Demon was such a pleasure to read quirky, chaotic in all the best ways, and just the right blend of heat and heart. Pix Pentham delivers a story that’s equal parts fun and emotional, and I was genuinely entertained from beginning to end.

The characters were the standout for me bold, amusing, and full of personality. The banter is smart, the chemistry between the leads is sizzling, and the way their relationship evolves feels satisfying without ever dragging. I loved how the story leaned into its fantasy elements without making them feel too heavy or confusing it’s a world that’s imaginative and enjoyable without requiring a glossary.

What really sets this apart is the balance between fun and feelings. There are genuinely funny moments that made me laugh out loud, but there are also tender beats that hit emotionally when they need to. The pacing keeps things moving, and even when the plot gets chaotic (in a good way), it’s never hard to follow or lose interest.

The only reason it’s not a full 5 stars for me is that a couple of the supporting threads didn’t feel quite as fleshed out as I would’ve liked I wanted just a little more depth in certain areas. But honestly, that’s a small nitpick in an otherwise really enjoyable fantasy romance.

If you’re into imaginative stories with charm, spice, and characters you’ll actually root for, A Darling for a Demon is absolutely worth your time. Delightful, fun, and very entertaining. 🔥📚✨

This was so so cute.

Pepper is is obsessed with the paranormal and smutty monster/paranormal romances. She goes to a haunted house on Halloween hoping for some other wordly action, but she never would have guessed it would be THAT kind of action from a Demon. I mean she hoped, but never thought it would actually happen.
